My name is Zakia, I am the first medalist of the Refugee Paralympic Team. I am very, very happy to be wearing this bronze medal. For me, it’s the most exceptional medal of my life. And I think it is for all the refugees in my team as well. For me, the Games here in Paris are really different. Because the entire French Republic is here. All my family, all my friends, and the entire Refugee Paralympic Team. They are all here to support me, to encourage me. They gave me the strength to win each fight and to get through the second fight and the final fight for the bronze medal. I am very, very proud of all the public here at the Grand Palais, because it is also thanks to them that I won the medal. Thanks to this medal, I hope that all the girls and women in Afghanistan are more motivated to train in their sport, and I hope that for LA28 there will also be an Afghan Paralympic team. After Paris 2024, I will continue in my sport, Para taekwondo and I will start other sports here. Because here in Europe, everything is possible, for all refugees. I am lucky to be on the refugee team because they are all behind me in order to help me for the second sport as well. I will continue in 4 years for the double medal at LA28.
