Para athletics is one of the few sports where athletes from all eligible impairments can compete. Almost one quarter of all summer Paralympians compete in Para athletic events. We are runners and racers, jumpers, and throwers. We race against each other from 100 metres to marathon distances. We determine who can jump the longest or highest. We throw discus, javelins, shotputs, and clubs. We run and jump on the track identified with prefix βTβ. We throw on the field, identified with prefix βFβ. We are grouped together for competition based on our sport classes and the rules of the sport. The number of the sport class depends on the impairment type and the degree of activity limitation on our ability to perform. You might catch us running with our guide-runners, wearing eye-masks. Inspire each other to break new records. Jump to new heights. Race in wheelchairs. Or compete with prostheses on our upper or lower bodies. We give it our best on the track and field. Cheer us on at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
