ah finally I've been waiting for so long for this here we go all right The Boys Are Back Sunday Night Live with a new face Charles McDonald the boy at forverts on Twitter and by the way Sunday Night Live people presented to you by smaroff the number one vodka in the world please drink responsibly Charles McDonald my boy excited to have you here on the Sunday Night Live for the first time yeah thanks for having me it's been a it's been a fun day like I always love week one because it's just like everyone's just overreacting you're fully back in it it's a good time you know unless your team loses like mine did today sure we'll get to that later yeah six field goals but uh d i i i just love this time of year I love how excited everyone is everyone's spamming about their gambling picks everyone's talking about their fantasy teams this is like Christmas for me it's um it's such a cool moment because we wait for so long right like we've got the Super Bowl and then we've got the draft and we've got that kind of stuff but then we've just got this long ass drought of no football for like four months five months whatever it is and we finally get to week one I just got a new setup I don't know how I'm gonna I'm gonna speak quietly because my wife's in the other room I don't know how I did it but I was able to get the 75 inch and then the 55 on top game changer wait that was that your crib that picture at my crib yes sir oh you live in large you're live in large I got the sports bar in the crib now my wife since she's gotten pregnant and she's been going through that she I've been I've been a good boy all right I've been making things happen here at the house and she's like you know what I'm gonna let you do it you can do it for football season we can put the 55 on top 75 on the bottom and I was like that's it that's all I need so that picture you saw was live from my crib today uh for a glorious week one slate say what you will there was a lot of ugly games especially in the 4:00 window uh which we'll get to in a little bit but the the slate and week one started off with a bang even before we kicked off right with the weird kickoff Dynamic kickoff rules uh pick from these topics that we can go for before the Slate started Dak signing a surprise contract four for 240 Jamar Chase being active and playing no contract Tyreek Hill getting arrested Kendrick Lamar being named as the super halftime show which of those four would you like to do first um I think honestly the most surprising thing to me was Dak signing that deal like right in and and that's a crazy thing to say on a day where Tyreek Hill was and K Campbell were put in cuffs by the way on the floor right on their way to the Dolphins game also with that like dude clay Campbell's 68 like 315 where do you think he was going like you could have probably broken out of the Cuffs if you really wanted to to be honest yeah he's such a nice guy I'm like what what what is that uh but with Dak man I I thought that at this point when you get to the season looks like you're going to play regardless you have the key No Tag clause on your contract which means as soon as the Cowboy season ends and you know the the new League start new new league year starts in March he's an unrestricted free agent which is something you never ever see for a quarterback of his caliber because you know you people will say what they want about Dak but he did finish second in MVP voting last year like he was he was really good last year right uh conveniently I think they want to forget it honestly uh so when you get to the uh to free agency this would been the first time we would see how much NFL teams would trip over each other to bid for a quarterback like that and we've already seen like a quasi version of this when deshun Watson was available from the Texans and we saw the bid it was three first round picks and $230 million guaranteed fully guaranteed contract which looks terrible after today it looked terrible after last year yes it just looks worse by the day so if if you're if you're Dak like I'm thinking okay maybe maybe I can get like 65 70 million fully guaranteed like per year on the open market because he ended up getting 231 guaranteed which is you know a little a million more than what the Sean got and I'm not saying that Dak Prescott's some poor guy obviously this is a ton of money for anyone to make but I thought he if he wanted to he could have taken this to March and really drag Jerry over the kls and why do you think he signed it just for the security of all right I got my money I got my guaranteed cash like four years I can still hit the open market obviously not make as much but who knows where the salary cap and where quarterback salaries are going to be in four years where I'm still kind of on the tail end of my Prime being able to play longer as quarterbacks play longer in the long run well obviously he was like never actually interested in leaving Dallas if he was going to sign this deal uh so maybe he just didn't want to prolong it and you know I I also maybe think like with some of these quarterback contracts like you're making so much money at some point like it really will start hampering the rest of the team so like let's say you go out there in free agency and the Cowboys are competitive and you come back and you sign like a $70 million deal you know three years $280 million or what three years you know $210 million whatever have you then CD's already been paid Micah still has not been paid yet you know there're still guys on this team who have contracts that are unresolved Ron Bland's gonna have to get paid at some point it really compresses it and you know Dan has talked about this on the show where he's like yeah know at some point you're making so much money if you're gonna play by the rules and cut Corners you could and Dak he definitely did stomp out some of the Ernie potentially he had here it's it's so weird and then we flip to the opposite side where we see Jamar Chase who's kind of been holding in the entire Camp the entire preseason and we're looking at a moment where okay we're going to see if rubber's really really going to meet the road here if Jamar decides to be on Street clo be in Street Clos on the sideline and watch this team lose to the Patriots then so be it and then his stock will go up and then something will have to happen enter the game he plays they lose to the Patriots he does nothing and nukes his entire leverage like what are we doing who like who is advising him I don't know I but I don't know I just I do feel like sometimes when you get into these situations where do you feel like you're everyone down you know if you don't come out and you know and you know like just the matter of fact Jamar Chase being on the football field matters a ton for that team in their chances to score because uh Joe burrow has turned to a really conservative quarterback over the past year plus I don't know if that's due to injury but they need Chase to be explosive out there so it can be tough even though the guys will understand hey you got to do what you gotta do for your contract it can still be tough to look him in the eye and say week one we're trying to get a Super Bowl this year I'm out y it right y'all got it and you know maybe he should have S out because they lost anyways they couldn't they couldn't move the ball at all but now like The Leverage thing is interesting because you're already starting at a disadvantage when you're talking about negotiating with the Bengals because they're they're tough on this sometimes where they don't really want to pay market rate stuff obviously you gotta pay burrow because you can't let that walk out the door but we saw them play hard ball with t they're playing hard ball with J with Jamar so now if you go and play that game like you did today they know you're willing to play on the deal that you're currently on right right now which nukes The Leverage you have to get it done now now I don't I don't think it actually hurts his like future earning potential because he's still Jamar Chase and right he's like 25 years old and he's one of the best receivers in the league but in terms of like getting that signing bonus money today I don't know if that's gonna happen during the season though especially with I I get it if you go out and you ball your 10 for 170 and two two scores where you're like yeah pay me my money like I'm that good but when you go out and do you have the the stats off the top of your head of what he um of what he I don't I don't I remember him catching one ball and I was like oh jamar's playing I forgot well it couldn't have been a lot because burrow was just dinking and dunking basically entire game and I just remember I drafted him in the dynasty League last week and I was frustrated but 62 yeah I mean not terrible not terrible not terrible that's usually a first half for him you know what I mean that was the third of their passing yards today it's not that's that's that's not good that doesn't bode well um before we get into the Slate Tyreek getting detained arrested detained and put on the floor by five FHP officers before the game uh your thoughts cuz that was kind of the first news that broke even before the Dak news I feel like the Dak news happened after the Tyreek stuff what did you you saw that video and you're were like damn I cannot believe this is happening well I didn't the first thing I saw was a text message in one of my group chats which just like yo Tyreek and cuffs I was like man what what what now it's game day it's game day I was like I was like dude come on like like I was like bro at some point you got to chill and then I found out it's been a wild year for him man for wild couple years I was like man you got calm down at some point but then find out that yeah I guess he was speeding on his way to the stadium little reckless driving charge but you know even CL Campbell after the game said that he was put in CBS too so I'm like yo what what are you guys doing and I'm not I'm not saying that we should do the name recognition thing here right but if you're a police officer and you pull over someone next to the Dolphins game at like 10:20 on a Sunday when they play in three hours and you see the driver's license is Tyreek kill and then you see a 68 Mountain Man where do you think they're going man right these guys a fan like I get no one's above the law but come on did we really need to throw them on the ground with the five officers and that that was weird but we but it did give us the celebration between Wadd and Tyreek today where they you know cuffed him and walked off the field that that was good because I was quickly quickly changed that camera angle by the way they saw him going out there doing one of these like switch it go to the go to the crowd go to the crowd I saw a crowd a crowd view super quick after he went to put his hands in the back um do you want to start there local uh Miami playing the uh I wouldn't say Rivals but Florida rivalry if you will um Jacksonville Jaguars the Dolphins looked weird for weird three and a half quarters and Tua looked I don't even know what Tua look like it it didn't look like him a lot of balls were late a lot of balls were early it was like he couldn't catch rhythm with what he was doing and I didn't think um the Jags defensive line got a ton of penetration all the time I feel like the when we look at D lines the Dolphins D line played better than the Jags dline um especially towards the latter part of the game but like when you saw Tua and just a bunch of Aaron throws Tyreek got one obviously at the end where he scored an 80 yard touchdown but after before that a lot of stuff behind the line aan gets hurt moster looked like he was hurt they went to Jeff Wilson of all people like it was just a weird game for the Dolphins how can you uh put that into perspective for us uh well I'll take it back to like literally last season when the Falcons hired Raheem Morris and raheem's building his staff and they had Ryan neelson the defensive coordinator last year for the Falcons he ended up going to Jacksonville and that hurt my heart because Ryan neelon was fantastic last year in terms of just building a competent defense out of something that really only had like two players for most of the year with AJ Terrell and Jessie Bates because Grady jerett got hurt and they still finished you know like 24th in dvoa but you look at EPA per play success rate they were in the top 10 with defensive Personnel that wouldn't really warrant that ranking so when they let him go he went to Jacksonville I was like oh you got some dudes now so this could actually be a good defense so when they came out uh today I was really interested to see what would happen because to me nielson's one of the better defensive play callers in the league League going against one of the best offensive play callers in the league with all that speed and for the first three quarters they were sitting on everything um like Anan had that one explosive play early on but then like the underneath stuff they were sitting on and it really didn't open up until like you said you know you get the big play to Waddle you get the big play to Tyreek and then you're you're kind of moving on but I think the story of this game to me was kind of the the the intro of the defensive coordinators coming into some new gigs because even Anthony Weaver who's been waiting for an opportunity like this forever so that he can kind of Vault his name at the head coaching talks uh in a serious manner second half you got to be pretty pleased with that if you're a dolphins fan uh the defensive line looked pretty good and that's kind of his expertise Jaylen Ramsey bounced back in the second half so if you canare that defense and kind of avoid playing defenses like the Jaguars and neelon for the rest of the way I think that that was an okay start for uh the Dolphins because I expect that jaguars defense to be really tough this season and Tua do you think it was just rust just early season rust of like maybe they're not firing as quick they're not getting out of routes as quick he's maybe a little bit more antsy he had I think he took like three or four sacks yeah well I don't want to be like I don't want to to trash him but I think these are the kind of games that Tua can get stuck in when it's not easy for the skilled players to just run free in the defense like it was today now you've got to create you've got to you know put on the prowess prowess that suggested that you should get paid top-of the market quarterback money um and you know I think he's still working on that also week one can be weird we'll we'll see what happens moving forward but I think for Tua he was a little off today but it's not something that I would say was kind of like unexpected based on the defense that he was going on because we've seen him at times when he has to create when he has to step up and kind of overcome what's going on around him that can be a little shaky sometimes very shaky and that's why like if if the receivers aren't getting open if McDaniel's maybe a little off as far as calling the game like when you get paid 200 some my million dollars it's on you to make things happen right and the Faith In Tua being the guy that can make things happen like that outside of the pocket and then creating plays and extending plays throwing off platform like doing things that you pay quarterbacks $200 million to do we have a little bit of hesitancy to see him do that because he hasn't really showed it a ton especially on the road um so it's it's again early PE it guys if you take anything away from this show Sunday Night Live tonight presented by smov football's weird extreme away football is weird things happen and just you know it is what it is out of the quarterbacks you saw today from the rookie class who's the quarterback that stood out to you today is none of them an answer yes yes but okay because so we can just run through it real quick because what we had uh three starters today with uh because may still on the bench and obviously penck is still on the bench uh Caleb dude you ever some sometimes you see guys and I thought this was true in the first quarter where they come out and they're just too too wired and too amped because in the first quarter especially like there were plays there to be made like there was a wide open pass to Keenan Allen down the left side by 15 yards 15 yards and I'm like dude I know you can hit that throw like settle down um but then in the second half I thought that was where you started to see oh this is way faster than Pack 12 defenses I can think of one play exactly when he get in a shotgun he goes back somebody blitzes through the a gap and he's like oh I can just dance around him and get away and then he does the move and the D lineman still right there like no no I'm here bro you're good tacks him and I was like oh okay yeah this is definitely not this is different um I would I I will say I wouldn't be concerned though because even with how how sloppy it was and yeah I think he had like 70 net passing yards there's still some plays in there where you're like okay playmaker still in there that guy that can make plays is uh is it's right there you just kind of got to get reps and slow it down even Keenan Allen dropped like an easy touchdown pass that I would never expect him to drop again so Caleb Williams it was rough but I wouldn't really say concerning yet like if you're looking at this in the month out like you're still seeing you know 100 passing yards a game I would probably be concerned but you know that was a tough defense they still got some dudes you gota move forward Jaden Daniels it's it's gonna be a long year for him dude that team is not good and the funny thing is I heard so many people being like the commies this year like they can be a sneaky Darkhorse playoff team and I was like did they expand the playoffs or am I missing something like are they gonna let teams that are under 500 into the playoffs now like that how are the commies ever going to make a playoff with the with the roster they have it well they can't this year I I think today's show they they just absolutely can't because no one thinks the Bucs are a juggernaut and they just absolutely smash them roll them um so D with with Daniels there's there's just a long way to go because the offensive structure is so bad but like at least he can get out the pocket and and make some scrambles happen for you um like that was that was a good way for them to get out of like some bad situations but overall just behind the sticks way too much uh a lot of negative plays I thought Cliff Kingsburg was way too conservative at times just calling a bunch of rpos and screens like it's cfb2 and not like a real life n been playing a lot right he's been playing a lot of games like you got you got to throw that ball down the field buddy your offensive line might not be great but Terry mclen is and ran a Jet Sweep I would have been convinced I was like yep there it is if he runs the Jet Sweep he's been playing tmp2 runs the Jet Sweep and they cut it up in the middle of the field yeah you you've been playing the game man uh but you know with Jaden I I think he'll be fine I don't I don't think he has like the ceiling of Caleb Williams but he can be like a good enough starter where you can like make the playoffs and go on and run with him if you have the player it's kind of like like like Jaylen Herz to me is where I would kind of place him but right now no you don't have the dudes and honestly I'll be more concerned about that defense that that was embarrassing today like they just got absolutely cut up and B Knicks Mr horizontal Dink and dunk I don't I don't I don't know what to make of that 3.3 yards in attempt you threw it 42 times I I I I just don't really see how how they're gonna build an offense where they can push it down the field and actually score points and the first game was like a stark reminder of that to me it was like hey this is what we're going to do we're going to just try and Dink and dunk you to death and hopefully somebody breaks something but he looked anytime that I looked at that Broncos Seahawks game I just saw him running for his life yeah and I was like oh this isn't good every every 30 seconds yeah and sometimes he's like bailing and but right and he shouldn't and there and there's the thing with Bo Knicks though is you're supposed to be like kind of ready to play today because you were you know one of the oldest rookies to start a game you played you know five years in college started all five years SEC Big 10 pack 12 uh caliber play uh so you know you shouldn't be throwing picks like he did at the end of the game you know there should be a little bit more aggressiveness a little bit more you know procedural awareness because if that's not there like what's what's the upside here you're not guy right and you don't you don't have a big arm and you're not fast like this is kind of like Garden menu level gifts but it was taken at 12 so how long like like so where are we can end up on that but drafting another quarterback next year that's where we're going to be ending up Shawn Payton's taking home that Walmart money buyout and piecing off to another Island see you guys I'm out of here um has enough time passed where we can talk about Atlanta yeah yeah I wasn't even I honestly wasn't even upset I was just like that's just what they do that's two things that are inevitable right Falcons playing the way they play and Kirk Cousins and now you bring them together to form like the the what's it called the The Gauntlet for Thanos it's like one more piece of The Gauntlet and Kirk Cousins we saw bad Kirk today because there's there's a Kirk out there in another Multiverse that is incredible he just wasn't there today no he was not he was not there today um and honestly I was I was a little concerned about like just the whole offensive setup because they were calling play scared like bejon Robinson touch the ball a bunch of times today never really had a bunch of space to get things going their passing game was really like you're operating within 10 like 10 yards of the uh the line of scrimmage really short a lot of quick game stuff and I'm like man I thought you you go out you pay Kirk to let it rip I feel like a little bit and there were some throws where you know where he was pretty bad like the pick he had to kind of steal the game was really bad uh but I I just want to see them be more aggressive because like Kyle pittz had a couple nice plays Drake London had like two nice catches that were short but you know you see the talent if you can just kind of figure out a way to sequence it where you actually get a guys down the field be a little better because I don't I don't think you can just live in fear of someone's pass for for the entire game like TJ watt was great but like he's gonna be out there for 60 plays we gonna just run like run away from him every single play right and I think they need to just kind of get you know get their [ __ ] together and be brave next we've seen it from thr the ball that's that's the part that's upsetting like we've seen him aired out to Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison and yet you look around and it's like he was I don't know if maybe the Achilles thing coming off the Achilles he wasn't mentally like re all the way back yet you know it takes a little bit of time for you to kind of feel comfortable and get that game speed he hasn't seen game speed in a while maybe that's we could chock it up to that but like I don't know there's the pieces are there for Atlanta flat yeah it's it's there that's why it's annoying like and then you you go back to the you go to the the the box score today and like Ray Ray McLoud is their leading receiver I'm like dude this is the same thing we were doing last year come on throw the ball to your first round picks please the uh the team that surprised you most today oh that's a good question um I would say the New England Patriots I wow draw M on them boys yeah I I was I was still in on the defense um just because I think they have even with Christian bommer being out for blood clots I think they still have too many good players to really like hard fall off from that side of the ball but they looked more more competent in facets of their offense than I was expecting like the Run game was better uh raand Dre Stevenson went absolutely crazy today um and I think that they look they look more credible than people were kind of giving them a chance uh at the beginning of the Season where you're like oh this is the worst offensive line we've ever seen and I was like H it's bad but like it's like 25 22 range not 32 and I think they kind of showed that today where yeah it wasn't clean all the time and you know jaob Brett a little dinged up but that was a good first start for you to go on the road and beat a team like Cincinnati that has Super Bowl aspirations I thought that was a cool start for D Patriots um how quickly do you think we're going to see Drake may I me there I mean jacobe isn't wowing anybody but give him a little bit of a of a of a Runway gerro said in the last week of the preseason that Drake was been had been better over the course of the preseason training camp so like that that sentiment is already in the building he said it in a press conference uh I don't really know what you're waiting for at this point like are you just waiting for jacobe to have a bad game but now you're in the yeah you're just waiting for him to get hurt like I I don't know but now but now like you're in a you're in a situation where no one's ever gonna bench a quarterback coming off of a win even if he didn't really play all that well uh so you know I guess they would have to start losing but I've always been of the mindset Ju Just put him in there just play I think you get better by playing you learn a lot faster who has and who doesn't no it's not going to be clean all the time but if Drake May is who they think he is then you should at least see flashes in every game moving forward I think the team that surprised me most today um is the Dallas Cowboys I think going to Cleveland with a defense that is tops in the league um and doing what they did and I think the caveat is we were anticipating a better deshun Watson right at least a little B and what we got was the same bad deshun Watson like I can't remember a throw he made where I was like damn okay like that that had zip or that had touch or that was a great pass like every pass is just like getting thrown and a and a corner is batting it down and it looks like it's coming in like a softball and it's like damn I remember like it Charles am I crazy did I remember deshun Watson having an absolute Cannon arm was that a mirage the 2020 season like he was he was incredible like it cuz what the one defining thing that sticks out for me that season is at the end of the season the last game JJ W apologizing to deshaan Watson saying dude we just wasted like an MVP caliber year for you and I'm so sorry that's where he was where is that guy like when he got paid the first time by Houston no one blinked it on because he he was deserving of that contract but dude now we're we're that was four years ago and in that time span he has played 13 games games for the Browns 13 miserable which is yes and the best one that was like where people were talking about the comeback for versus Ravens last year his average depth of Target was three yards so like he you're just dinking and dunking but I will say I am surprised that like he hasn't regained any of it like none of it like even if he just ended up being like 80% of what he was he can't even get there he can't even get like 20% and now you're looking at not only is he bad like he's actively one of the worst quarterbacks league right now and you've restructured a contract you've got $72 million cap hits over the next two years no one's coming to save you for this on a trade you can't cut him because he own too much money you're stuck with this for two more seasons so you just have you just have to hope he like gets to average or some point but this is one of the worst quarterbacks in the league easily like if you take the name off of the back you're like oh that's DTR that's Dorian Thompson Robinson running around like the play fif round and Dorian Thompson Robinson would probably make better plays if you want to be honest at least escape the pocket get like a nice 20 yard run here and there but like man if you take the name if you take the name off The Jersey you're like this guy is not an NFL quarterback period no he's not and I would wonder like how many guys are looking at James it's like yo I mean it might not be good but it'll be better than this he's gonna sling it yeah we know that about flacko already did it and remember the year before Flaco Jacobi Bret played all those games when deshun Watson was suspended and was you know efficient efficiency wise like a top 12 quarterback that season so like the offensive infrastructure is there he's just so bad that it's tanking everything and I don't I don't really know what's next for them stefansky must be just like hitting his head against the wall every single game like man if I had a halfway competent guy this team could go to the Super Bowl just halfway confident if he wasn't Joe Flaco and it wasn't Jobe brassette just give me somebody please that can actually throw a ball but getting back to the Cowboys they were surpris I was surprised by them because I feel like a lot of touts a lot of people in the media were like this is a easy game for Cleveland I think it was the the it was three and a half point line maybe more I'm not I'm not 100% of where it closed at but Cowboys don't play great on the road sometimes but they went in and handled business like the pass rush got to Dak a couple times but offensive line was sturdy I think the running game was okay the ghost of Ezekiel Elliot scored a touchdown somehow CD CD even though they didn't really need him to be uh special teams look good like if we're if we're power ranking teams in the NFC way too early Power Rankings Week one I really like where Dallas is at obviously we haven't seen San Francisco play yet Jordan love just got hurt with an MCL he's GNA be out for six to eight weeks like who else really surpris you and really wow you in the NFC I mean I I think the Cowboys like they have to be kind of the answer here because one of the underrated stories of the Cowboys offseason as you go through the CD drama and the Dak drama with the contract Parson doesn't have a contract they quietly upgraded a defensive coordinator yeah when Dan Quinn went to Washington they hired Mike Zimmer who like that was kind of a wild card because Mike hadn't coached in a couple years but Zimmer has never really had a bad defense throughout all this time like Cincinnati's a defensive coordinator Minnesota as a head coach this is one of the best defensive coaches of like this era of football so he gets a coach of defense that has dudes now and not only that they've flipped philosophies where Dan Quinn's doesn't really mind having smaller guys in the middle of the field first thing that the Cowboys do when Zimmer gets there they go out and sign lyol Joseph and they trade for Jordan Phillips just add two 330 pound pluggers in the Middle Field that makes life easier for Michael Parsons and if you're making life easier for marichel Parsons you making life eer for treadon Diggs who also had a nice game uh in his return so like that defense I think it's it I don't know like efficiency wise if like over the regular season they'll be better than they have been over the past couple years because that's a really high barter reach but like situationally I think they're in a much better place uh with Zimmer calling the plays and you know if Dak is going to be as good as he was at times today I don't see why that's a team that can't run the NFC and we've been saying that for so long yeah and then and then all of a sudden something happens and then you're like oh no this is this is the fourth or fifth best team in the NFC right everybody else just starts getting rolling at some points the eagles look good I think defensively there are big questions for the Eagles obviously that that game happened before this Sunday late um what was your thoughts on love who I thought played really well um the Eagles who at times Jaylen look good at sometimes he didn't defensively they look a little thin especially in the defensive secondary like what because those those two teams if you would have told me at the beginning of the Season who are the two teams that you would call probably head you know neck and neck for top of the NFC I'd probably say San Francisco Philly and Green Bay especially with Green Bay what they did last year and Jordan love just coming on as a quarterback like when you look at that game how do you think that plays out for the rest of the season or at least the next couple games it's tough for Green Bay obviously because you know the the thing is early season losses can really Doom you like if you are if you start out like 0 and2 0 and three your chances of Mak to the playoff are just so slim because you have you have to be almost perfect the rest of the way it's kind of unreasonable to think that be star of 0 and3 um but it it's just it it just sucks man you know because the whole thing with Green Bay was it wasn't just oh you know they have this Rockstar quarterback like the whole thing was a Coming of Age story for the offense they were one of the youngest offens in the League last year and I think that's a big reason why they sucked in the first half where is Jordan love and like four rookies out there at skill players uh and then in the second half of the season when they finally get comfortable and Ed to the NFL they catch fire and we saw at moments in that game they look just like the offense they were last year and now they have a really talented running back in Josh Jacobs like they were ready to take off and now Jordan Love's going to miss some time and if they can just survive some of these couple game these couple games where Malik wils is starting they'll they'll still have a chance to make the playoffs but you're you're in a rut right now you're in a rut right now uh on Philly the defense is concerning very for sure but I think I think that was kind of to be expected you're you're rolling out like two rookies in the secondary defensive line has had a lot of changes your linebacker depth everyone that that was going to be weak coming into the season uh the offense it's like man if you can just be a little bit more consistent because the Jaylen Herz uh Kell Moore mayor just something out that questions about all offseason because it's like yo Kell Moore has never coached a quarterback like this you know he's coached Dak Prescot Justin Herbert like classic drop back play action turn your back to the defense for 530 yards down the field uh Jaylen like some of his best stuff is freelancing like when him and AJ are rolling out the pocket and they have like some connection down the field and they can get that going but it is hard to kind of put that together in a structured offense at times so I think that's where you see you know jaylen's not always comfortable or AJ is not comfortable and they're not on the same page because that connection that chemistry right there is such a key to their offense and until like they kind of get all of the structural stuff down going in a massive shift from offensive style uh it might be a little tough for them but you know at the same time like you can see these struggles and they still score 30 points right you have want to almost have four touchdowns right you still have St Barkley you still have AJ Brown Devon Smith l Johnson Milada the the interior is good like as much concerns as there can be about the marriage between player and scheme they just have too many good players to actually be bad so I think they'll be fine I don't know if they're like a Super Bowl Contender but if you can score points you can make us playoffs simple as that it's it's really easy score more points than the other team yeah the the simplest way to explain football to score more points that's all we got to do um looking forward to tonight's game uh on Sunday Night Football you got r and lions lions a couple plays away from making it to a Super Bowl with a really good roster with pieces that fit and a style and a coach that wants to bite people's kneecaps and makes it happen like I'm excited for the Lions uh looking forward to tonight's game what do you think uh what do you think we're gonna get into uh the one thing I want to see is the goat's gone Aaron donnald is no longer a member of the Los Angeles Rams and they have a very very young front seven going against one of the toughest offensive lines in the league plus Dave Montgomery plus jir GS plus Ben Johnson I I think this is these are one of my favorite games like in week one when like a rookie or young uh group of players has a gut check like immediately like all right Jarry verse Bren Fisk what you made of here com yeah here comes panol and Frank ragno and David Montgomery running angry as hell right behind them so uh if they can just like not get mauled and have like 10-minute drives that end in the touchdown and just get the ball back to Stafford that would be the key because because I think Stafford and the the Rams offense will be able to score I just don't know if they'll be able to get off the field Monday night we've got the Jets and the 49ers Aaron rogers's return to the NFL after his Achilles and iasa tours are we gonna get are we gonna get any semblance of Aaron Rodgers or are we gonna get somebody that we like a deshun Watson type where all of a sudden all of his superpowers are gone and the monstar stole them all dude I don't know but at least like Aaron Rogers it would be explainable right cuz he's 4 coming off in ailles injury all like like see this is what I I felt so like weak when I talk about the Jets this year because I like anything could happen like if Rogers if Rogers is good I wouldn't be surprised if he absolutely sucks I would not be surprised because they even where he's been the past the past year uh but there's also the truth that his last MVP season was three years ago uh the 2022 season was where the Packers said no enough we got to move on so I don't I don't know where you are because I thought last year you were probably going to get somewhere in between like the MVP stuff and when the Packers some move on but now that ailles in the age it's such a wild card I don't know uh but this is a good test because the Jets rebuilt offensive line you got Javon hardgrave and Nick Bosa right away uh Aaron's Mobility is not nearly what it used to be that's part of why he got hurt last year uh and now he gets to test that immediately against two of the best defensive linean in the league with a rookie tackle in front of them again a team that could be built to win a Super Bowl if they have a quarterback they could be right right but it's just such a wild card I don't know I don't know how anyone feels like okay making a declaration about what Rogers will be because there's just simply no way you could you could know but if he's good like if he's in one of these situations kind of like Drew Brees where the physical disabil the physical abilities have like dissipated but oh I've played in the NFL for 20 years I I know it's coming if he can settle into that role that's fine if he thinks it's still like 2011 and he's going to be the Gunslinger you know rolling out to the pocket I think this might be a long season defense built to win a championship skill position players built to win a championship they just need that quarterback and obviously on the other side San Francisco uh a lot I feel like a lot of questions about pie no it doesn't matter yet still got the Avengers around you got Kyle everyone's back everyone's paid everyone's happy it doesn't matter yet there it is you heard the man for vers on Twitter go follow him Charles McDonald friend of the show brother
