hello everyone and welcome back to prodigal Overland my name is Brad if you're new here welcome today we are going to revisit the very first Trail my family and I did before we were even thinking about prodigal Overland so um I'm going to link a a a video for you that if you like this video you can watch of our kids reaction after the fact and they keep talking about about falling off a cliff um and it's because of this Trail right here this Trail is mosquito pass as I'm talking to you I'm being sworn by mosquitoes I remember when we did this the very first time I was wondering why mosquito passed there weren't any mosquitoes so we must be in the right season but they are heavy and they are aggressive but um we're in the middle of our Colorado Overland adventure and we're at Camp 2 so midweek and I am super excited to show you this Trail I think this Trail will always have a special place in my heart um and like I said it was the very first Trail we did together as a family before we really even knew what we were doing I think it's kind of funny how emotions can imprint themselves as memories on us and and as far as my wife and children are concerned this is one of the most terrifying trails in the country and although only my oldest son was with me on this trip I was really excited to come back here and document it for them I just really want them to see and understand just how far we've come over these last 6 [Music] years so with us today we've got Brian in the Grand Cherokee he's been doing awesome he drives his thing very very well we've got stuff from Chief Products he didn't get the memo on dressing warm so he's going to freeze but that'll be all right we've got Daniel who's been with us several times Daniel he's got the V8 he's got a broken knuckle on this side so he's a little out there but we're going to keep rolling and we've got Lee Lee's got a 2 in lift on 37s Mickey Thompson's and he's got a pitman arm issue from beating it up the other day um so he's rolling with my neighbor Jeff there's Jeff everybody say hi hey hey hi is this a reason I call this mosquito pass yeah it's ridiculous just leave it down let's have a long let's have a long chat here yeah yeah yeah and in the back that well we're not going to leave him in the back because he's long and wide and on these things that's not really what you're looking for so um this is Rick Full Throttle Rick his friends call him Full Throttle um and so he's going to be following us directly so that if there's an issue on a switch back we can kind of help spot him through any thoughts uh see if a big girl can make it it's going to make it yeah yeah he's also has his wife and daughter with him and I don't have to ask how they're feeling so um but they're going to be fine everything's going to be great and we're glad they're here at over 13,000 ft mosquito pass is one of the highest mountain passes in the state of Colorado for perspective the highest point of the Blue Ridge Parkway of the Blue Ridge Mountains where we live now is just over 6,000 ft as you'll see here in this video as to climb up mosquito paths there are several switchbacks and the road does get narrow but it's definitely not the narrowest Shelf road we've been on [Music] all right we're making our way up to switchbacks just a gorgeous Trail um a lot of fun so far [Music] [Music] this next Switchback as soon as I saw it I remembered it cuz this was a Switchback that just set my family off up until this point we had a lot of anxiety some nerves but nobody was yet crying hysterically this is probably the tightest turn on mosquito pass and just as you turn you come up right here on this Boulder when we had done it in our Grand Cherokee we had lifted a tire right here this was the first time I or anyone in my family had been on three wheels and the screaming quickly followed the only way to get out of the situation is just to reverse but as soon as you do that the backup camera comes on and shows you that you're maybe 8 ft away from going over the cliff which is plenty of room but it was too much for our family my wife was grabbing hold of me my daughter was screaming his hysterically in the back seat and my oldest son I think maybe to try to comfort her said that at least if we go over the edge we would all die together which really didn't do a whole lot to bring the mood down in the car [Music] 13,000 ft yeah this is nutty right this is awesome what you think not bad right not scary at all not even a little nervous yet but it is absolutely beautiful is this in and out or it's a through so ra around the corner is the sign for the the peak so this is just a really nice shot to get cuz as soon as we bent do the bend you won't see this liveing the Dream Baby liveing the dream that's gorgeous [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] everyone on this one did just a fantastic job and it was so much fun for me to be able to document and explore that again with my oldest son and then be able to bring this back for my family stay tuned next week we're going to be out in red cone um doing just an amazing pass with this group of people
