the Pittsburgh Steelers just got some really good news on cam Hayward and guess what cam is not going anywhere so the longtime Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle signed a three-year contract yesterday runs through 2026 and there aren't really a lot of details on the contract so far but we're looking at Hayward being 35 years old first round pick by the Steelers way back in 2011 he was about to enter the final season of his current deal and he has said over and over and over in the media everywhere online that he wants to retire a stealer and um man he wants to play Beyond 2024 do it in Pittsburgh and um but there was a little bit of talk here and there about opening the door to going elsewhere but he wants to stay here he wants to retire in Pittsburgh and that won't be necessary so Heyward posted on X how unlikely yet here we are and that's while posting a picture with Steelers GM Omar Khan and this is just really good news um we're looking at his history with the team as well right he selected as a defensive captain for the 10th time in his 14-year career just on Monday becoming only the third player in your franchisees history to reach that Milestone and what's up this is Sports Talk Steelers I am your host Sean I'm part of a Sports Talk family here We Love cover ing the NFL I'm primarily a bears guy I got a successful Bears Channel but I want to give you guys some good impartial coverage on the Pittsburgh Steelers and who knows Justin Fields better than Bears guy but uh this is growing very quickly hit the Subscribe button I just want to be here to um to give the Steelers some love and to support you guys so let's continue um when we are talking about this guy he is a Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2020 three a three-time All Pro a six-time pro bowler but he's kind of coming off an injury field season right only two sacks and 11 games and he talked openly Monday about returning to the standard that he set earlier this decade I mean that is well beyond what he usually provides and he's usually one of the best pass rushing interior linemen in the league and this is to he straight from cam I've had to eat criticism and absorb it everybody's entitled to their opinion but I want to make their opinion wrong and I think I just look forward to playing good football so career enters to 2024 80 and half sacks the most ever by a Steelers DT ninth most in NFL history by an interior defensive lineman and now he is extended so another thing about this contract it's worth 45 million 16 million of it is guaranteed so details just came out uh and this new contract it actually frees up 9 million in cap space for the season and that'll that'll likely be used to extend tight end P frier Mo and um man it's just a really good thing for you guys and this is uh this is banking on him returning to form growing tear last year 11 games last season the thing is the guy wants to play he plays hurt he was originally projected to miss 9 to 12 weeks after he suffered the injury in week one but he returned after six Miss games his performance what is wasn't up to his usual standard though only limited to the two sacks and 35 tackles in 11 games so um kind of looking prior to this injury Hayward he had his best NFL seasons in the later half of his career I think he still has lots of gas in the tank for you he made six straight Pro bowls from 2017 to 22 a 22 campaign that saw him tally 74 tackles from the defensive tackle spot 10 and a half sacks and 23 quarterback hits that's huge a four-time All Pro during that span two first team SEL selections and um yeah the Pittsburgh Steelers by all accounts looks like a team in transition maybe at risk of posting The First losing season of head coach Mike tomlin's career the strength is in the defense because you're starting Russell Wilson at quarterback that's after parting with Kenny picket good rich and you're also playing in a tough AFC North you got the Ravens the Bengals the Browns all projected to compete for a playoff spot and I think at least at the outset of this year the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to be carried by their defense getting cam Hayward there ready to roll man it's not a bad thing it's a really good thing to see you guys have been super generous like And subscribe send me a comment let me know what you'd like to see profiled coming into this game against Atlanta and enjoy the offseason I'll talk to you soon see you
