welcome to county office your ultimate guide to local government services and public records let's get started what are the rules and format for the first presidential debate of 2024 duration and timing the debate will last 90 minutes starting at 9:00 p.m. eastern time with two commercial breaks included commercial breaks during these breaks candidates will not be allowed to interact with their campaign staff this is a new feature as past debates sponsored by the commission on presidential debates did not include commercial breaks audience for the first time since 1976 the debate will be held without a live audience to minimize external disturbances moderators the debate will be moderated by CNN's Jake Tapper and Dana Bash who will use all tools at their disposal to enforce timing and ensure a civilized discussion speaking format no opening statements unlike previous debates there will be no opening statements from either candidate response time each candidate will have two minutes to respond to a question followed by one minute rebuttal and responses to rebuttal moderators can grant extra time at their discretion closing statements each candidate will deliver a two-minute closing statement at the end of the debate the order was determined by a coin toss microphone control to prevent interruptions the candidates microphones will be muted when it is not their turn to speak stage Arrangements podiums candidates will stand at uniform podiums with positions determined by a coin toss notes and props candidates are not allowed to bring pre-written notes or props onto the stage but will be provided with a pen paper and water additional rules campaign staff interaction campaign staff are not permitted to speak or interact with their respective candidates until the end of the debate qualification candidates must comply with the qualifications outlined in Article 2 Section 1 of the US Constitution for presidential eligibility and meet specific polling and ballot requirements to learn more check out these links which you can click in the description below and feel free to comment your questions we're here to help thanks for tuning in to our video please like And subscribe and leave a comment below see you in the next video [Music]
