what do we learn from Virginia's 3413 victory over Richmond here at Scott stadium in the season opener well number one we saw again that fans don't want to stick around after a rain delay this one was a long one two hours and 18 minutes but unlike a year ago when they struggled coming out of the locker room against James Madison Virginia looked sharp didn't lose any momentum in the locker room some of the players said give credit to the barbecue and the food that they brought in to keep them nourished and they also said they had a better focus on the field Anthony kandria he answered a lot of questions he won the starting quarterback job and the question was was he going to be good with the football ball security well no turnovers tonight he was electric as always he made some dazzling plays but he also took care of the football which was really objective number one if you're Virginia we also saw another important thing for Virginia they ran the football Kobe Pace was excellent running it catching out of the back field the offensive line able to get them into some uh good situations there moving the ball on the ground special teams which has been a nightmare for two seasons here at Virginia no real mistakes to to speak of they had a missed kick but for the most part special teams were really solid overall what you saw was Virginia check a lot of the boxes they wanted to check in this opener cander had protected the ball they ran the football uh they didn't have gffs on special teams so overall an encouraging start for Virginia now they've got to go do it on the road at Wake Forest in a key ACC opener
