Shelter-in-place issued for active shooting at Broomfield apartments

e e e at the Arista flat apartment Central Court near the First Bank Center we know that residents living in the area are being asked to shelter in place our 9 news reporter Brianna Fernandez is live in that area right now Briana you were just talking to some residents that are in the area yeah I'm actually I actually just spoke to a resident who you're going to hear from in just a second but a lot of them tell me that they have seen uh police officers here bright and early since like 6:30 this morning and that's when some of them heard gunshots when I spoke to that neighbor who says that she lives right next to where this is all unfolding she said that she heard police officers screaming she also said that they banged on her door telling her that she needs to leave uh so let me step out of the way give you a look of that scene we've been giving you looks of the scene and it's pretty much been the same in the last you know 5 10 15 minutes where we were last live so we have Broomfield police we have a mobile command center and we also have North Metro Fire we are seeing more crews arrive to the scene I do want you I want you guys to hear from uh the neighbor where this is all unfolding because she said it's not happening in this in these apartments that you're seeing right now she said it's actually happening behind so take a listen to what she had to say I heard some loud begging this morning about almost 7 p 7: a. a.m. and um I heard some screaming and some yelling and then a few minutes later I did hear some loud noises that later realized were gunshots yeah so you just heard from Ria she said that she's been living at these apartments for 2 years she just resigned her leas she said this is a pretty quiet community she never expected this to happen of course she woke up to all these gunshots to the screaming you just heard from her now she can't even get her car her car is parked in this intersection she needs to go to work and right now she can't because police officers are telling her you cannot come in you cannot no one can come out right now they're asking people to still shelter in place I don't know if you guys can hear but we're also hearing some Sirens way uh further back uh where those apartments are again this is still an active scene we know that uh Broomfield police they are having a media staging that means that they're going to give us us the media more information about what is uh unfolding that's where we're going to have our new sh Roy and our photographer Manny T they are going to be giving us a look of what police have to say and we are going to stay here on scene bringing you the latest as this story develops for now I'm live here in Broomfield Brianna Fernandez for 9 news I'm going to send it back to you guys in the studio and we really want to emphasize something that Briana was saying there I mean just 25 minutes ago police were still Tweeting about that active shooter the active shooter situation saying that those limited evacuations have been done they still have that shelter in place in order for now those have not been lifted so please avoid that area if you can if you are in the area again shelter in place is in order right now please be safe out there yeah we want to thank Brian for getting out there and again we know that our Ina is heading out that way as well at the media staging spot again this is an active shooting investigation that is happening at the Arista Flats Apartments it's right by the First Bank Center they're asking everyone to stay inside right now except for the few that have been evacuated this has been going on now for a little more than 30 minutes and again shots were heard in the area uh shortly after that notification was sent out to Residents they haven't heard shots since but as you can see it is still very active in the area a lot of different agencies SWAT police fire all on scene there all right now this is a footage of the scene earlier from our Sky n but you can see just how much of that area they do have blocked off right now and as you heard Briana say even still now you are hearing sirens and you are seeing a big active
