hey everybody this is Tom from small scale life hope you're doing great today welcome to another Garden Tour this one is a little unusual this is not a veggie garden but a flower garden and as you can see right behind me here this is a railroad crossing so this is the Talmage community garden here in Minneapolis and it's all flowers all the time so we're going to take a look at it it combines two of my favorite things railroads and Gardens and uh you can see here on the median they have flowers planted and then in this use partiel all behind me it's all flowers all the time so just had 20 turkeys come through here so even though we're right down by the U ofm there lots of wildlife lots of things to see so let's take a quick look and we'll get you on your way so if you need garden flower garden inspiration this might be it so lots of B bomb lots of bees blacke Susans Sedum all kinds of stuff let's look at the uh let's look at the channelization first so here we are in Minneapolis at the uh talage Crossing Garden um it starts here in the boulevard actually this has been growing for a few years ever since I've been been doing inspections I've been kind of watching this Garden go and grow and uh it's kind of expanded it's come out here to the Boulevard and then into the median I don't remember as many plants here the last time I came and inspected but uh sure enough we got some really cool stuff here we've got all kinds of flowers cone flour Sedum um all kinds of stuff day lies uh and it looks really really nice uh the Sedum right here this stuff is cool we had it on the farm we just got a batch from uh Sue and Dan um and we got those that's actually uh Sedum from the farm that we gave to them that came back to us so really excited about that here's some more Sedum what that looks like it's very cool stuff you'll notice here in the boulevard there are herbs mixed in with flowers mixed in with weeds I mean what's a flower but a weed right it just has purpose culinary purpose thyme Rosemary oregano all these things are kind of mixed in here if you know where to look right if you know what you're looking for yep oregano good stuff and then here we have the main garden now it's busy it's got a lot going on we have Golden Rod up along the fence uh we have a big cluster a massive cluster of B bomb and it wasn't this big the last time I was here but obviously B bomb will spread and this is the magenta or purple variety um and I was out here just taking a look at it for a minute before I started recording and there are so many bees in here bumblebees big bumblebees especially over in this stand right over here um you know they love it and this this B bomb is already done those cone flowers actually sorry and then we've we're at various States here so we are August 20th look at the size of that bumblebee look at the size of that thing it's like an airplane like a passenger jet that these are some massive bumblebees they're really enjoying the B bomb here just a ton of them so you got to love that b bomb and it's a good jeez almost 5T High some of it Julie and I have talked about putting B bomb on our Lake Shore it'll spread which is fine we just want the right kind of B bomb we're not sure about this this variety we like red uh but man the bees love it I'm kind of making them mad as walk through here the Golden Rod is really popping tons of pollinators back there Sage man look at this stuff go and grow even the little stuff is in here it's such a mix it's really kind of cool to come through um so once upon a time and I know cuz I used to walk this when I'd come and inspect look at these guys look at them go holy look at all of them amazing wow so many bees so many big bumblebees some Ren talking back in there cone flowers Golden Rod so there used to be p back here and it's really tough to see where the paths are now cool so that's one thing you got to watch out for when you have this onural planting method is there's no paths except over here on the edge so we'll be over here on the edge um obviously we're coming in here in August things have already gone to seed native Prairie very cool man so many pollinators this is awesome black ey Susans we want to get some of those in our Lake Shore it's just really impressive there's just so much here I don't even know where to stop or to step milkweed don't see any Monarch damage we had a couple monarchs that were chewing on our milkweed at the Landing that was super cool it's just really really interesting there's just something to look at everywhere so much to look at look at these beautiful just kind of hidden in here hidden gems that's it's really pretty look at that little Memorial here yeah so it's just an unused parcel that folks in the neighborhood have turned into a native planting area lots of flowers I just can't believe how many bees are in here it's just amazing birds have kind of quieted down now obviously cuz I'm here uh they've got a few St bones here and there oh there's somebody's uh succulents hiding back here pretty neat look at that that's a beauty those are nice looking good so who knows what Hidden Treasures are here right this was pretty nice here really nice find but uh h just smells all these herbs mixed in with the flowers and that's something that happened that uh that I saw at Seed Savers exchanged Focus here uh where they mixed in herbs and flowers one of the things they mixed in was Dill and it just smelled so good as you walked around their main flower garden you had such a variety of things in there you just didn't know where to look and this is kind of like that too it's it's really hard to walk in there though um I don't know how they water things I mean they have a hose here connected to the hydrant back here but uh it's really hard to walk through here but uh yeah just a quick tour hopefully you see some plants that you like um hello friend that's a big big bumblebee they really like the purple sorry everybody it's a big bumblebee there they really love the purple B bomb some decorative grass pretty cool just all works and the pollinators seem to be very happy it's pleasing to look at hard to walk around in but it's very cool so yeah here you go the talage crossing Garden so kudos to the neighborhood for putting this all together and uh this has been another fun little garden tour on my Journeys hope you enjoy it it's Tom from small scale life remember to learn to grow be a little better every day and that my friends is a good thing see you soon
