e [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] jet schedule is out there already talks predicting the Jets record ESPN's Mike Clay has the Jets winning the 2024 Super Bowl today we will be doing our Jets way too early 2024 for depth chart predictions with my guest Brandon pacis of jet xfactor let's roll j e t s Jet Jet Jet let's [Music] go Jet's wide receiver Wesley Walker Wesley how you doing today ESPN riter Mr Rich seini Jets reporter for the athletic Mr Zach rosenblat Hall of Famer and jets Legend Mr Marty lion your host Conor La here we go Friday evening like I said today we will be giving our Jets way too early 2024 depth chart predictions and my guest is Brandon pacis of jet xfactor let's bring him on the show Brandon how you doing today I'm doing great thank you very much for having me on the show I'm really excited to go through a really really interesting jet dear compared the past seasons and like you said you know Mike Clay ESPN predicting that Jets to win the Super Bowl giving an entire rundown about it and I'm really excited to dive into the depth chart of a team that really could have some big aspirations this year you know obviously M saying that really got Jet fans going especially on Twitter today but you know jets are 17 games you know just in general the schedule the Jets finishing in terms of number of wins you know it's really interesting right because predicting win totals and things like that in May so many things can change from now until we reach September but really like giving a preliminary look at it I think where honestly the Jets have to be the strongest is that beginning portion of the schedule and I get it right you're you have the three games in 11 days stretch to open up the year with San Francisco on Monday night and then Tennessee and then the home opener on Thursday which is something I don't think we've had regarding the Jets in a very long time but if you look at really those first eight weeks of the Season 49ers really good but then Tennessee New England two teams that didn't make the playoffs Denver another team that didn't make the playoffs Minnesota a team kind of in that in between window not really sure how good they're going to be then you have Buffalo obviously contender Pittsburgh's a tough matchup and then you have New England again right if you're New York and you're looking at that back half of the schedule where the the three game stretch to end the season of the Rams the bills and the Dolphins is really sticking out you got to win at least five of those games in that early portion you got to win maybe even six of those games maybe seven right because as the season goes on now week nine you're playing Houston Houston week 11 you're playing Indie and then after the buy right into the Seattle Miami Jacksonville and then the the three game stretch we talked about so the Jets can't afford that slow start they can't afford to be flat-footed like we've seen at times and then they gain their footing right this competitive conference competitive Division and if I'm really looking at it I'm I'm expecting at the very least nine wins right yes obviously can't predict injuries you can't predict guys improving guys progressing things along those lines right but taking what we know already taking what we think should happen this is a team based on the additions they have on the offensive side of the ball based on what their talent level is on defense this is a nine- win floor in my opinion anything less than that we're having some really really pointed discussions in the offseason and if they can get to that 12 13 point we might be talking about one of the best teams in football so I'm really interested to see how it progresses but I'm thinking no less than nine so we're thinking a nine minimum and probably like a 12 13 maximum yeah so I'm kind of in the in the similar boat as you but I'm actually I have a a bit of a higher floor I think the floor for these guys to come back you know Joe Douglas Robert saniel hacket the whole crew I think it has to be 10 wins and you know I think the Jets have to make the playoffs and Win It at least one game in the playoffs if Robert Salah and you know Nathaniel Hackett and Joe Douglas want to have their jobs for 2025 I think it's more than you know just even making the playoffs I think they have to win at least one game in the playoffs but in terms of the ceiling for the win total like I said I think the floor is 10 ceiling I think at 13 to 14 wins I think is the max I can see this team winning I probably think they'll go about 11- six 12 and five something like that I don't think they will win less than 10 games this year at least I really hope not but like you like you kind of said earlier they're different like tiers they they're like if we do this bad everyone's gone and we're one of the worst teams in football or if we do this good we're contending for a Super Bowl and we're one of the one we're one of the best teams in all of football so it's definitely an intriguing way to get um kind of look at that let's go let's dive in right to the je depth chart starting on the offensive side of the ball I think we all have the same person at this position quarterback je dep chart yeah you know if you scour Jet's Twitter you might see the mo random person you know advocating for Tyrod Taylor to start look I get it you get Justice yeah you you get you get the uh get the Monday night flashbacks with Rogers but Rogers is the guy that is going to be the engine this offense you know we we saw the report that the Jets tried to replace Nathaniel Hackett hacket still here what capacity is he going to be in how is the offensive play calling structure working right we can ask all those questions at the end of the day the offense goes as far as Aaron Rogers takes it and as far as the other players on that side of the ball take it you have the one with Rogers you have the best backup you've had in years with Tyrod Taylor then the number three most likely Jordan Travis I'm really interested though looking at the depth chart they did bring in two quarterbacks in Andrew Peasley and kobby Suits I'm interested to see if those are just Camp arms and they're just keeping them for the preseason to really prevent Rogers and Tyra from taking any sort of hits in the three preseason games or are they actually trying to get a look at them and are they actually competing in a sense with Travis and is there a slight possibility that they practice squad one of these quarterbacks so I think that's a really under under the radar like no one's going to be talking about it but it wouldn't surprise me if something like that popped up but like you said quarterback's very straightforward it's probably arguably the most straightforward position on this entire roster and something catastrophic happens if Aaron Rogers isn't starting week one to be completely honest yeah you know I I I completely agree with you um you know you mentioned the signing of Andrew Peasley and Kobe suits two quarterbacks you know the jet sign um quarterback Peewee Jarrett as an undrafted free agent a division division two school he was later cut by the Jets because you know there were rumors swirling that he had this injury and that the Jets didn't really want to deal with that so they got rid of him but he had from what I'm hearing was a a crazy arm Talent so that's why the Jets Jets really liked Peewee but yeah I I think guys like Peasley and suits you know personally I don't know if Travis is going to play the preseason really with his injuries I think the Jets might try to keep him off the field as long as they possibly can so I think probably taking preseason reps I maybe see Rogers one to two drives in the last preseason game a little bit of tie rod and I think it's really going to be Peasley and Suits I think they're going to have the preseason to really take it take um take their talents and just show them off to the New York Jets organization to show okay I want to be on this roster for 2024 this is how I can play but yeah like you said pretty straightforward and I agree something catastrophic is going to happen if Aaron Rogers is not starting week one but moving over to the running back position you know Bree Hall is the name that comes to mind when you say jet running backs they also added brillan Allen Agent Zero running back out of Wisconsin who uh you know Joe bid actually did a film review on brillan Allen on the jet xfactor YouTube and Jed xfactor.com and he really showed that brayan Allen is more than just a PowerBack obviously looking at his size and weight 2 235 61 you're going to think okay he's definitely a PowerBack but I think he's more than a PowerBack I could see him being the running back to on this Jeet chart ahead of uh Israel bonda who the Jets selected in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL draft out of pit and then obviously the Jets did draft Isaiah Davis and this year's draft what are your thoughts on where where do where could you see these guys falling in the 2024 depth chart I don't think it's a hot take to say that brillan Allen's going to be the RB too in fact i' I'd probably lean in that direction because like you said right he has the frame of a power back but his pass blocking prowess can't be discounted and if he even shows verot Le half or 75% of what he did on film consistently at NFL level well now you're giving different looks on third down now you have two guys you can rotate on that down you're not running Bree into the around with those uh those plays and now you can keep teams on their toes even more because it's another way to keep Aaron Rogers upright where whereas if you have Bree on the field that's more of the receiving weapon Allen's more of the I'm just goingon to level the linebacker that's coming to sack the quarterback I also think that a big thing I'm looking at is what do the Jets think of aananda right because I the Isaiah Davis pick doesn't make sense in a vacuum right because you're like well you have all these guys you literally just drafted brayan Allen and now you're adding what would be possibly the rb4 on a team no team carries four running backs on their on their 53 men or not many do at this point I think how the Jets identity on offense comes into focus is going to really be the deciding factor right because yes the Jets drafted Izzy in round four they wanted to develop him into this thunder and lightning combination with Breece Hall but if the Jets are going straight to a power run scheme that might be evident by their addition of John Simpson and some of their other moves that's evident through brayan Allen and Davis being picked up Izzy might not fit what they're trying to do anymore and he didn't get on the field last year and there could be so much discussion about that but it's obvious that the coaching staff didn't trust him why they didn't trust him we'll probably find out more in the OTA practices and training cam practices and as this offseason progresses but it wouldn't shock me if he falls behind Davis as well because if the Jets see you know okay we got Bree Hall Bree Hall is one of the best in football brayan Allen we know what he can be as a player if they really like Davis and Davis can not only brings something as a running back but also special teams which should not be underrated considering the changes they made if Izzy can't do the same if he can't be that impact player on special teams like Davis possibly could be you could see him fall behind Davis on the depth chart so not the most impactful in terms of the overall complexion of the jet season but it's one of my most interesting depth chart things that I'm keeping an eye on starting with OTAs where how the Jets Implement their scheme how the Jets want to be as a football team on offense is going to really dictate how this rest of the running back dep sh comes into the focus because if it really is this power downhill Mont Izzy might fall out of favor quicker than I think a lot of people anticipate and there's also a possibility where he keeps his job and he gets on the field for jets he shows the Improvement necessary but I don't think it's this far-fetched thing that the coaching staff really doesn't want to utilize him in the way that he could be utilized because he doesn't do xwi yeah you know personally I I um definitely respect your opinion the possibility of him fing behind Davis but I don't think Izzy can fall behind Davis I think if he the Jets like Davis more than him I think they're going to cut Izzy You Know Rich s vsn was telling me on my show that he thinks there's a PO there's there's a world where iond deonda in the preseason is playing for his roster spot so you know there definitely a lot can happen with that running back room just because carrye four running backs you know is he even when cook got dvin cook got cut and Michael Carter got traded he still struggled to find the field I mean it was literally Bree every down you know I'm I'm a fan of Izzy though when he saw the field last year he made the most of every opportunity that he got but you know his his lack on uh special teams is what scares me a little just because I don't I i' I'd rather have a player who could play special teams and running back than a guy who could just play running back and you know just 53 spots on a roster you got to make the most of every spot so I totally respect a decision where the Jets could possibly cut Izzy if they really liked Allen or um Davis you know I think Allen is going to see the field this year I don't I really don't know about Davis it's just gonna be I can I can compare Davis's role I think Davis's role is g to look similar to what Izzy's role was last year in terms of kind of if we're if we're down 30 points or up 30 points with 10 minutes left we let you take a couple snaps or here you go this is your opportunity end of the season week 18 take it and and run with it so you know that's that's what I that's what I think Davis's role is going to look like going into 2024 but moving over to wide receiver you know jet signed Mike Williams in free agency thank you to nyj Matt the founder of Sandwich gate uh obviously the Jets have star wide receiver Garrett Wilson along with Jets third round pick Malachi Corley wide receiver out of Western Kentucky will get into him a little but you know the Jets also have Xavier Gibson Alan Lazard Jason brownley Malik Taylor you know what are your what are your overall thoughts on this wide receiver room I think you know I think Gibson and brownley have a really good chance to to prove to the Jets organization they could produce at a at a high level this is also one of my bigger questions and I think the answer is starting to come in the focused as you're seeing guys like Marcus vales scantling and Tyler Boyd come off the board as free agents I think this team has a lot of confidence in the likes of Gibson in the likes of brownley and displaced or not however you feel about it they probably have a bit of confidence still in lzard to Rebound with Aaron Rogers right because my biggest thing was and this was still when Boyd was available and mvs was available how the Jets feel about those guys is going to dictate whether or not they make another move and once again obviously still a lot of time lots of things can change from now until August until the start of training camp but at this moment I think the Jets do feel comfortable with their wide receiver room right Garrett Wilson we all know how much of a stud he is his ability to get open every area of the field make catches every area of the field he's if Aaron Rodgers and him stay healthy you're probably looking at one of the top 15 top 10 wide receivers in football this year in my opinion right Mike Williams once he gets back on the field you're looking at the Deep threat the cont to catch threat that honestly the Jets have been looking for on the outside for years I mean ever since the likes of Brandon Marshall making those types of plays right the Jets have been looking for that type of receiver and Williams can bring that to the table right he has the injury concerns he has the little things that keep out a game or two but he's a perfect compliment to what Garrett Wilson is as a receiver and then as you mentioned Malachi corand immediately you're talking about a guy that can get open and create separation be an explosive threat underneath with the ball in his hands we're talking a guy about a guy that is referred to as the yak King this is a guy that can make so many things happen after the catch and that's where he's starting from we could see him continue to develop this year under Aaron roders you know he he gave corly the offer to stay with him we could see that connection Blossom immediately and now you have three weapons that the Jets can rely on on offense outside of Bree outside of Tyler Conlin who we'll get to in a little bit it just for me it's all about the depth what happens if something if Garrett Wilson goes down for a game or two what happens if Mike Williams can't start the year what happens if corly gets nicked up a little bit it's all about can you rely on the likes of Gibson brownley and Lazard that's going to be one of your bigger underlying questions at least regarding depth for this team because if Gibson takes another step forward now you have another slot eyy that you can rely on right if brownley takes a few steps of development forward now you're talking about another outside threat but if you don't now you're looking at a reduction in your ability of your offense to function at the level as supposed to and look I'm not saying you need your number four five and six wide receivers be Stars that'd be naive right you're not going to have Superstars one through six on the dep chart but these guys weren't consistently getting the job done when they were called upon last year and I I think there's more development in store for Gibson and brownley but if you're having to rely on Lazard you are banking on a complete and utter turnaround from him to reach a even semi consistent level of production right so you're it's a really big question that I'm focusing on are they going to add someone who knows at this point point it's I think that's really predicate on what they see from the guys in OTAs and the beginning of training camp someone I am also keeping an eye on is Tyler harell I think he is a udfa out of Miami blazing speed threat maybe he's a guy that steps up where okay we have our top three we're comfortable with him as our number five and he's pushing the likes of Gibson for for a spot right we've seen like we've seen things this happened already last year with Gibson himself so I think overall it's really a matter of the depth you know who the top three are going to be you know what their roles are going to be you know if they reach their production ceiling how that's going to look the NFL has a ton of injuries and if something happens in those guys the production of 456 is going to be really really important yeah you know I I definitely agree with you like I said I'm big I'm big brownley and Gibson guys especially brownley I think you know you give brownley reps at that position get him comfortable I think he could be really nice you know you know just from watching Hard Knocks it's hard to not root for two guys like that and how hard they work to get on this team absolutely and you know obviously EX for Gibson that you you couldn't have drawn up a better story you know Aaron Rogers goes down and then the undrafted free Asian has the game-winning punt return touchdown I mean who predicted that seriously who predicted Aaron Rogers going down on four plays out for the year and then an undrafted free agent getting a game-winning touchdown on a punt return but yeah I think 456 is crucial in the league I don't know how much I trust lzard I don't really care that Rogers is back you know I think that might help a little but no I it's gonna it would be tough to trade it would be very tough to trade Lazard I had Zack Rosen blat on when free agency really first opened I asked him what it would what a Lazard trade would look like he said kind of something where we'd have to give up a day three pick and Lazard to receive a day three pick and you know anything to get him off our plate I'm cool with but you know looks like he is unfortunately going to be here this year and you know have to ride with it but I'm really comfortable with that big three Garrett Wilson Mike Williams and Malachi Corley I understand Williams is gonna have to miss some time like you mentioned you know it's not 100% sure that he will be ready for week one I um a big fan of that wide receiver room I think it's one of the strengths on this offense props to Joe Douglas for what he has built this season moving over to tight end you know we we have we have some solid depth here in my opinion you got Tyler Conlin who I think big body I think he's a solid pass catcher big Conlin guy you have Jeremy Rucker who I think with reps he's a nice blocker I think with reps he can be a good player he's like he could be turned into a solid title then you have Kenny yoa who the Jets actually resigned who I was a little surprised they resigned I know they like yoa but I was a little surprised they resigned him and then you know Zack Coon's seventh round selection from the Jets in the 2023 draft what do you make of this tight end room I mean I think it's pretty straightforward right Conlin could take a big step forward in terms of production with Rogers you know Rogers likes to Target his tight ends a little bit more than some other quarterbacks I maybe it's not this massive step but you definitely could see probably like a 700 yard with five touchdown type season right where he already has that that line of production with the quarterback situation the Jets had the past few years which not great compared to a lot of situations in the league as a very good tight end in my eyes I think Conan can be top 15 top 12 in terms of legit production I think Rucker it's a really cool chess piece and I'm really interested to see what that next step development is in terms of their u u utilization with him right because he's a really good blocker he's shown that he can be that h-back fullback type that can lead block for Bree Hall and maybe with the Jets shifting towards more of a power run approach he gets more reps there and now you're getting some flat routes out of him where he can be effective in the open field as a checkdown option so I'm really interested to see how they use him because as good of a blocker as he is I think he has an untapped receiving ceiling that he showed in spurts at Ohio State he's shown in spurts in the NFL and I just want him to be able to reach that potential by having those types of opportunities obviously that's going to be hard if Wilson Corley Mike Williams and Conlin and Bree are all involved there's not going to be that much of the pie left but I think he can make an impact and then yoa is one of those other type players where good blocker nice to have as tight end depth and I'm really interested to see if C can make that step forward because that's a insane weapon if you can even get him on the field in some capacity even having that type of guy on the field you're able to draw eyes towards him in terms of the defense and maybe that opens up things but he has a long way to go in my opinion he didn't really have the ability to get on the field whether because of guys in front of him or the coaching staff not trusting him so I think it's a he has a really big off season ahead of him in terms of can he push for a bigger role a bigger roster spot with the Jets this season behind Rucker and Concklin who I think are the two solidified guys yeah you know I I completely agree if your name's not Jeremy Rucker or Tyler Conlin and you're in this tight end room you know especially Patrick mcweeny who I absolutely love he has an a great story undrafted free agent how could you not root for him but you know I I I can't see him making the roster personally I love the guy but you know it's definitely an uphill battle going going into this position room with all this depth so a guy like [ __ ] and yoa I think they're going to have to fight to see the field if they really want to see the field I think they're going to have to earn it and I think that comes in ota's training camp and preseason you know obviously I think Rucker's going to be given some playing time finally at least I hope Conlin will definitely be tight end one in my opinion starting on the field a lot blocking I think Rucker I I think we might see Rucker block a little too C and yaboa I think yaboa is a good blocker Co I just haven't seen enough of like I haven't seen enough of Co where I'm like I love them I hate them I'm in between I like them I dislike him I just haven't se I haven't seen him play at all really in a Jets uniform so that's that's what I make of that um the tight end room but let's head over to you know Jet's weakest position last year the offensive line you know obviously big news is Jets this offseason went out they brought back Morgan Moses and they signed none other than 77 Cowboys left tackle now jet left tackle Tyron Smith and you know they also drafted ol fanu 10th 11th overall actually and you know he's probably going to be backing up Tyron Smith going into uh 2024 you also have John Simpson who I like as a guard timman and verit Tucker would what I classify as the Blue Chip pieces on this line what do you what do you take away from this offensive line you know I I'm a fan of this room going into 2024 if they stay healthy you're going to see one of the best Jets offensive lines in very recent memory past five years maybe even 10 years dating back to 09010 right you have Tyron Smith who obviously the injury concerns are well documented when he's on the field even at his age been one of the best left tackles in football I feel like the addition of Morgan Moses is going very under the radar in the sense of how much the other additions are being talked about Moses was phenomenal with the Jets when he was there Monto balmore continued to be great and getting him back yeah he's a little bit older but he's the exact type of consistent player you need as your other bookend tackle I think ver Tucker is gonna have a big season I feel like a lot of his injuries specifically the Achilles tear I feel like that's more flukish than anything this wasn't a guy with a really consistent injury history ahead of the p and the Achilles I think without the Jets hopefully without the Jets needing him to bounce all over the line you're G to see him really settle in and be possibly a pro bowl level player I think that's one of the legs I would stand on that you're G to get a phenomenal season out of the L of er Tucker I think Joe tippman takes a step forward at Center I'm really excited to see that and then the John Simpson one I think Simpson's going to be really good but maybe you have an underrated battle between the likes of like him and West schwier in Camp where battling to see who's the who's the depth option who's the starter and looking at the other options depthwise I'm really interested to see because of the way the Jets are most likely going to handle the Reps how does Carter Warren look in training camp in OTAs how does Max Mitchell look how does ol Olu fanu look because we all know and and we all hope that it's not t a significant amount but there's a very good chance that the Lexa Tyron Smith misses one or two games this season or maybe three to four there's a chance that Morgan Moses misses a few games these are older players offensive line is a very taxing position and you need at least one really solid depth option to be able to step up right away yeah you know I I I I my bad I clicked the wrong button there I I 100% agree with you in terms of that you need backup because you know one or two guys goes down you're dealing with a completely different offensive line room than what you came into let's say you know pray to God this doesn't happen but Joe titman uh and Tyron Smith both go down you're looking at this offensive line from a completely different perspective you know it's just that's why I like all the insurance I think Joe Douglas did a great job of ensuring as many sponds as possible on you know not just o line but wide receiver defense I think Joe Douglas did an incredible job building this roster through free agency and the draft moving over to the defensive side of the ball we're gonna start with defensive line you know the big names on the defensive line would include you know Jets trading for Hassan reck Germaine Johnson quinnon Williams Javon kinlaw the Jets also have and then you know some of the backups would include guys you know Will McDonald coming into his second year I think we can expect a lot out of him Michael Clemens who's just a beast in my opinion you know I I think I still think he needs to work on some stuff but I think he could be a nice player for this Jets team laai fotu big big guy Jets got him in free agency most recently played for the Cardinal Solomon Thomas who I absolutely love I think he's a I think he's a incredible um credible against the Run really really solid overall player uh and then you got guys like uh you know tanzel smart who I still think is I believe is with the Jets guys a guy like Jaylen Holmes you know a lot of depth on this defensive line to say the very least what I I'm personally a big fan of this defensive line what do your what do you take away from this room I'm definitely high on it right I definitely think that this is a this is a unit where they're be really productive I don't doubt that in the slightest my biggest thing though is how do you replace the production of Bryce huff and John Franklin Meers I think the Huff one's very straightforward right you got Hassan reck Hassan reic is basically the grownup developed version of Bryce Huff to the point where he's three to four years older he has more that sack production he has more production in the Run game he's more versatile it's the he's basically the the fully developed player that you would want Bryce Huff to be in three years right so I think that one's pretty straightforward where it gets a little bit more interesting is John Franklin Myers because Franklin Myers was a severely underrated part of this Jets defensive line he's he's someone that was able to be really good against the run and also create Havoc as a pass rusher I think I was looking at his PFF page the other day think created at least 50 pressures in the past three seasons as a pass rusher so when you look at that right you obviously know what Quinn Williams is gonna bring to the table Germaine Johnson I think's in store for an even bigger year three after his year two breakout we know what reck's bringing to the table what do you get from Javon kinwall right does this does being back in Salah scheme open him up and maybe you have his Breakout year right what does fotu look like I think a really really big piece is Leonard Taylor from univ Miami I think it could make a huge impact right can he can he turn into John Franklin Myers's light having that first year to eventually end up like the player jfm was Michael Clem is another great one right can he step into that role I honestly think at the end of the day what you get is a combination of players making up that production for jfm I don't think it's as simple as kin law is jfm or Clemens is jfm or Leonard Taylor is jfm what I think you get instead is you have your top guys you have Germaine you have pan reick you have Quinn Williams whether it's through Will McDonald who I think is going to have a really good year considering the additions the Jets still made on this defensive line whether it's Clemens whether it's Leonard Taylor whether it's kinal whether it's fotu I think through all of those different guys and the way the Jets like to rotate their defensive line I think you're getting jfms production but a little bit more dispersed which as a result now you have even better depth as a unit compared to last year where now it's not as concentrated in a few guys but now you're six seven maybe even eight deep of guys that are productive and now we making up the numbers of what maybe three four five guys were doing last season yeah you know I completely agree I think there's a lot of depth in this room like I mentioned earlier I'm a big fan you know I I think Leonard Taylor who the undrafted free agent out of Miami you know not only do I think he can make the roster I think he can make an impact on this team in 2024 I mean it was a steal in my opinion that the Jets got Jets got him as an undrafted free agent in my opinion that's absolutely insane a player his caliber as an undrafted free agent I think of you know I I think of a different value when I think of undrafted free agent not Leonard freaking tlor but uh moving on we got the linebacker room you know the the big two um CJ Mosley who just signed an extension with the Jets this offseason Quincy Williams you know who CJ Mosley helped develop and you know is just All Pro really you know just such a solid player what I can't I can't say one bad thing about Quincy Williams 2023 season you know he just had monster a monster of a year but you know you also have zier Barnes who the Jets selected in the 20123 draft out of Western Michigan you also have a guy like Chaz Sarat who you know he's been with the Jets for a little now I think he plays special teams I think with some time you might see him come on the field a little as a linebacker Sam oven who you know he was uh big on special teams he helped contribute to that play with the Broncos where the Jets forced to Fumble on that punt and you know looking at the Jets linebacker room I like it I think I think CJ Mosley can help develop some of these young guys how about you I don't think it's just Mosley and you're definitely on the money with that Robert Salwa his best position I think and even extended be I think this Jet's defensive staff the best position in terms of track record they have of developing is either linebacker or defensive line right we saw what they did with Quincy Williams Quincy Williams was a waiver wire Edition he is now arguably an all pro level linebacker and I'm not saying that they're going to be able to rep replicate that again but in the case where something does happen to Mosley or sure or uh Quincy can Jamie and Sherwood step up I think he can I think he can be a productive player in year three I think you can get good production out of zire Barnes or Chaz Sarat I think this is the position where some people may look at it and be like oh the depth the depth I'm not worried because I think you're at least getting two of these guys turning into at at a minimum productive NFL players because this and defensive line are the two positions that Jets have the best track record of and it's the reason why their defense is so good because they're able to replace the guys that either go down or the guys that depart in free agency with the depth that they draft and develop on the roster yeah you know I def agree I think Robert solah Jeff o all these guys in my opinion I mean just incredible defensive staff big fan of this defensive coaching staff I offensive coaching stuff definitely could use some work but big fan of just you know just overall defense like I said the defensive coaching St just the defense in general I think is very talented but let's move over to the next position safety you know the two big names actually in the safety room are Chuck Clark and Tony Adams I think Tony Adams is in for a monster 2024 season just looking at what we saw last year with the you know Eagles interception that I think was one of the most one was one of the best plays of the year and you know um just I I think the way I think he's a ball Hawk I think he's really solid and Chuck l we we didn't see him at all last year he tours ACL in training camp he is back on a one-year deal I'm really interested to see you know how he can help in pass coverage as this this you know this jet defense in general was was not great in pass coverage especially against tight ends that's why I'm not happy that we have to face off against George KD week one of the 2024 NFL season when the Jets were played this poor in past coverage against tight end but you know they also brought back Ashton Davis who's been you know longtime jet big fan of Davis really really like him uh Jerick Bernard converts uh Jets selected him out of LSU last year got hurt didn't see really anything of him I I I I definitely think you maybe find work to find the field through preseason Jaylen key mystery relevant Joe blood has been all over key on Twitter blood is a big fan of key and you know I like key I you know mystery relevant someone you just roll the dice on what do you what do you take away from the safety room I'm really excited for K I'm very interested to see how once again we talk about it right maybe not so much on the offensive side defensive side the Jets have shown they can develop players they can find guys with traits and talent and turn them into productive NFL players I think key is one of those guys he's shown a propensity to be able to come downhill make tackles make plays in that regard I think that's really important at safety depth but looking at their top three right now I'm not including ke because I think ke's more of that developmental maybe we're looking at him next year as a potential starting option or immediate backup option this might be the position where I look at it and I say th I we add the free agent here we add the veteran here if you're not adding the wide receiver if you're not adding another player at a different position let's throw up for example and obviously money purposes the Jets would probably have to move a few things around let's say they go after a Justin Simmons what does this Jets defense look like if they add Justin Simmons and now your third safety is Tony Adams right that immediate backup and you're starting Chuck Clark and Justin Simmons well now in my opinion you're looking at a defense with an even higher floor you're looking at a defense that might even be able to top the 2023 Jets defense but even in a case where they don't make that move I think these safeties are good enough I'm not saying they're they're an elite unit I'm not saying that Chuck Clark and Tony Adams are going to be the best safety duo in the NFL but I think when you have the defensive line that you have with the Jets I think when you have the cornerbacks that you have with the Jets even the linebackers I'd say you just need your safeties to not be a liability as long as Chuck Clark Tony Adams Ashton Davis are not liabilities on this defense I I think that's more than okay there's a reason why the NFL doesn't value safeties in a way they value other positions and I'm not saying that's necessarily correct because I think a a talented safety and Elite safety completely transforms the defense but the reason they're not prioritize as much is because defenses can function without having guys at that tippy top level so I think when you look at this this Jets roster they're so good on defense at almost every other position where you look at safety it's like can we make an addition absolutely it would help a lot but it's not this in my opinion pressing need where this defense is going to fall apart if they don't add one you know I I completely agree with you I I definitely like the Jets could use some help at safety but I'm not like oh my God we need to get someone in here right now Justin Simmons is the name the second that he got cut I was like okay the Jess need to go after this guy and it's crazy to think he's still on the market just given all the major signings that have happened around the league it's it's it's crazy to think that a guy of his Cali is still on the market but you know going over to our last position room on the on the defensive side of the ball it's cornerback you know headline by S Gardner DJ Reed in the best slot Corner in the NFL Michael Carter the second along with Brendan Eckles Tay Hayes quantz stigers stiggers has an awesome story you know Jets drafted him this year big fan of stiggers big fan of this room in general you know what do you what do you think I think this could be the best cornerback room in football I don't think that's too big of a leg to stand on right I think s is the best cornerback in football I think DJ Reed severely underrated I think as you said Michael Carter the second best lock cornerback in football this a that really helps the raise the level of production for this defense because when you have quarterbacks this good the defensive line can make even bigger of an impact because wide receivers do not find open spaces and are not getting open Period as frequently as they would with other teams with other units across the NFL I think stigers is a really interesting option because obviously we might be getting ahead of ourselves I think you might be looking at the Jets opposite starting corner to S Garder next year you you could tell how much the organization loved him he has shown that he can produce in professional football not necessarily the NFL but he was a really really good player in the CFL last year I'm very excited to see how the jet develop him because that's a guy with a ton of talent guys like that don't frequently fall the teams that already have have two top tier corners and a history of developing those players to that level I'm very excited to have that guy as a depth option I think Eckles is very very underrated as a player he's one of the guy one of those guys where you need him for two games he always step in and produce right away I think Isaiah Oliver is gonna be a really good Specialist Team player and I think even in a pinch if something happens to Carter he could fill in at slot obviously not at the level that Carter provides but you could make the argument that outside of defensive line This Is The Deepest and best unit on this entire roster better than wide receiver better than running back obviously comparing those positions and making the argument there are a ton of different arguments but based on what you've seen with the production from SAU DJ and Carter II and the depth that they've added this is probably one I feel the most comfortable with 100% agree with you you know nothing you can really complain about when it comes to depth and talent in this um cornerback room you know what one more thing before we we end it off we have special teams and you know I think this unit was one of the best last year Greg zerine Thomas moriste ex Xavier Gibson could you see the Jets running it back with the same success as they did last year with special teams absolutely absolutely I mean how long were people calling for morstead to be the Jets punter when they had brain and man and they cut Morad right look at the difference it makes for the defense Alone by having a good punter you're able to pin the team down in opposing territory you're able to crank up the pressure when necessary and make the offense earn every single yard and look at Zur line the fact that he probably accounted for a very good portion of the team points after Aaron Rogers went down should not be understated whatsoever so I'm in complete agreement with you on that I really think that the Jets special team unit can have the same level of success that they had last season and I think that you know even looking at the return game I think Xavier Gibson could take a really big step forward so I'm very excited to see what that unit does they were one of the best in the NFL one of the best the Jets have had in very recent memory and I don't think anything changes completely agree Brandon I appreciate you joining me you got any final thoughts nope
