On Monday, countless members of the hockey community attended the funeral service for John and Matthew Gure. The Gure brothers were killed last month when they were struck by a suspected drunk driver while riding bicycles in their home state of New Jersey. John was an all star for the Calgary Flames and Columbus blue jackets known as Johnny Hockey and Matthew played minor league hockey before becoming a coach. There is an unspoken homily or message being given today that is more eloquent than anything I can say to any of you by the overwhelming presence, an overwhelming number of people here today. They're sending a message to you loud and clear that John and Matthew's lives mattered that they were noticed on this earth. They were loved on this earth and they were valued on this earth. Matthew's wife also spoke at the service followed by John's wife MEREDITH Goudreau who announced that she is nine weeks pregnant with their third child, Sean Higgins. The man accused of killing the Gores is still in jail pending a hearing that's scheduled for Friday
