In this video we are going to
look at a couple progressive exercise options for rehab of medial
collateral ligament injuries of the knee. Hi and welcome to Physiotutors. The MCL is the
most commonly injured ligament in the knee. Luckily it has the greatest healing potential
of any knee ligament due to its anatomical and biological properties. You may be familiar
with the grading system to classify MCL injuries. Grade 1 and 2 can successfully be treated
with conservative management, possibly including a brace in the initial rehab period,
and have a good short-term prognosis as well as an early return to play window. Isolated
Grade 3 injuries however, characterized by marked valgus instability, are rare and
usually treated surgically as they mostly occur together with other injuries such as ACL tears.
If you want to learn more about the epidemiology, course and prognosis check out our online
course on orthopedic physiotherapy of the upper and lower extremities at the link
in the video description down below. As the MCL ensure stability against valgus moments
at the knee we are going to look at a couple progressive exercises to build capacity
for this task. From early to late stages of rehab. We have linked a couple of literature
reviews in the description down below if you want to dig a little
deeper into the research. Again should you be looking for a concise
guide on how to assess and treat several common orthopedic pathologies of
the upper and lower extremities, check out our online course at the link in
the description below. There you will also find more than 10 other extensive online
