banking institutions generally closed on the weekends but Chase always open on Sunday and Cincinnati knows they know that too and they need to make a deposit in one of his accounts where do we stand on a contract extension for Jamar yeah they're trying to find that check and sign it sure so from what I'm hearing the Bengals have intensified their efforts to try to get this done in recent days they are hopeful to try to get him back onto the practice field because he's been that hold in on Monday to get this going and get them under contract on a deal that would be well above of $30 million per year on average so nothing is imminent people I've taught to in the building are somewhat optimistic hopeful there's a feeling in the locker room they can get him back here but they got to get this across the Finish Line it's a hard deal to do because he has two years left on his contract the Bengals know that so they have their limits as to how much guaranteed money they're willing to give them the structure of the contract those are some things that they're still trying to sort through right now so much money and structure though um that they can use as sort of a template talking about CD lamp talking about Brandon iuk who just got paid how do the specifics of that deal impact San Francisco now going forward well San Francisco can exhale now because everybody's worn out from this negotiation and the trade rumors so they're happy to be back Brandon iuk I'm told was ready to play he didn't want to miss games and so this is sort of the benefit of him being able to get on the practice field he got $47 million guaranteed to him in the first eight months of the deal before April 1st so that was a win for him got him back on the field and now they have more cap space about 10 million more to operate with which they can use on a certain left tackle that you see here Trent Williams that timing Trent Williams still a hold out and I'm told that will continue until he gets something done I've talked to people close to the situation who said look it's not a negotiating employ he is really frustrated because he feels like the 49ers could have addressed the guaranteed money in his contract a while ago they didn't he's got three years left on his deal he's only the fourth highest paid left tackle in the league despite being the best no guaranteed money left he would like to figure all that out so the 49ers I'm told are trying certainly they got this weekend to try to Hash this out all the players and coaches are off this weekend except for the people trying to do contracts right now so they're trying to go to the bank finish it up Trent Williams obviously wants a new deal and so too does Brock pie wanting a new deal for the guy who protects of course his Blindside Jeremy back later for a championship Contender that's still trying to land so well let's go to another rookie quarterback and Jaden Daniels who did win the starting job in Washington but he does not want to be looked at as the team's savior cuz at the end of the day you know it's a it takes a team to to help people out um you know can't go out there and you know think on the Savior uh you know everything um you know when the plays are out there to be made make the plays but you know got to get the 10 other guys um and the whole organization U moving forward in One Direction man how can Daniels and this Commander offense reach their full potential this season yeah he Jaden makes a great points not not all about him it's about his teammates it's also about their offensive coordinator Cliff Kingsbury and that's what I'm interested in seeing this year not just how he deploys Jaden as a passer and he is a terrific pocket passer but how much he uses him on designed runs you see the impact already that his legs have on defenses it clarifies coverages it makes things easier in the Run game however does have a slim build you don't want to expose him to too many hits so I think for Cliff very important task is finding that right balance let's see the NFC East Dak Prescott playing on the final year of his contract had this to say when asked if he needs a deal to get done before the season uh I don't need a no no would you like it done before the season I think it says a lot if it is or if it isn't um but however doesn't doesn't really matter to me to be honest with you what does it say if it isn't just how people feel I don't know how do you how how do you feel right about that you open that door yeah H how do you feel about Jerry said the negotiation isn't about your marit as the Cowboys quarterback but more about their cap situation what do you take from that when he says you know it's not really about what you're doing yeah I understand that that's the business and the nature of this this game that we play um uh yeah I mean I stopped honestly listening to things that he says to the media a long time ago so um doesn't really hold way with me I mean gemy smiling through it but where do things stand with Dak and the Cowboys yeah Laura that is a smile of a man who has considerable leverage and is happy with his life right now but here where is where things stand at the moment I'm told that both sides have been talking every few days that's been the strategy for both the Cowboys and Dak Prescott no major progress right now no new offers but at both sides have told me we've got a week and so they're not resigned to the Fate that Dak Prescott is just going to go into the year without a contract they are going to try but at least people with the Cowboys do acknowledge why it's hard to do a deal because Prescott is not afraid of free agency he's sort of welcomes it in a way because of that considerable leverage that he does have so the Cowboys are going to try but they know it's going to be tough for that reason the first eight months of that deal which he was happy about and he wanted to play games I'm told you know he didn't want to sit this out and draw this hold in out any longer than he had to be he wanted to be back with his team and really despite some of the trade rumors and the teams he would have gone to San Francisco was never overly serious about moving him at least in the last few weeks they were dedicated to getting this deal done with them so they finally found some common ground there different situation though in New York with the Jets you got Hassan reic there I've been checking in on this today talk to some people involved and they said they've gotten no firm indication that he's going to be there week one to start off the practice week on Monday so this is very much still up in the air he seems convicted about staying away here despite a salary of 14 plus million if he doesn't show up this year his contract tolls now the Jets have Will McDonald a young player former first- round pick taking his place right now they like him and how he's developed but clearly they want reic there there just have been no major contract talk so a bit of a problem for the Jets and you got Jamar Chase checking on this one all day I have t to some people with the Bengals that are optimistic that something might be able to get done in the next few week or next few days excuse me they're hoping that by Monday he'll be back on that practice field talks are ongoing my sense is the Bengals have tried to solve this renew their efforts a little bit but there's a lot of work to be done here still with the structure and the guarantees my sense is when a contract does get done that number will have a three in front of it on a Pere average and he'll be in that CD lamb Justin Jefferson Stratosphere well above $30 million per year but you know they got to get there and they're not there yet yeah that's what he deserves certainly but it's been an eventful week for the pengal head coach Zack Taylor trying to pin down just exactly when we'd see his star white out on the field yeah he's going to practice this week and we'll just keep taking it from there back are you confident he'll play week one yes I I think I probably put my foot in my mouth speaking too quickly and it's just again this is a day-to-day situation we'll just keep seeing it as that he's been at every meeting so you know he he knows everything he's been in the system now for three years that he's played it in the fourth year now and so again he he knows everything he's he's very on top of it you can't waste a day complaining about a situation just got to make the most of it and keep it moving and and that's what our guys have done and we're all on the same page we're all on board with this thing and so just excited to get the game week you know what in Taylor's defense it's been tough to figure out but either way he's eager to get Jamar Chase back on the field because he has had one of the best starts through his career that we've ever seen Chase is averaging 82.6 receiving yards per game in his career the fifth most by a player in his first three seasons in NFL history the only wide outs above him Justin Jefferson Odell Beckham Jr Randy Moss and Anquan Balden quite the company to be in it buil we are now N9 days away from the opener against the Patriots How concerned are you at this point about the situation getting resolved does seem a little curious that it's gotten to this point right like certainly both sides should be incentivized to get this deal done but maybe if you're the Bengals you think about the pass and think if he misses a week or two we can survive because we have another star receiver in t Higgins and remember go back to 2022 they had they were without Jamar Chase for four games because of a hip injury they did go three and one and over the last three years Joe Burrow's numbers with and without Jamar Chase on the field to me at least shockingly similar really not much of a drop off at all which you would expect when you're missing one of the best receivers in all of football that was only a four game sample and obviously the Bengals are better with Jamar Chase than they are without him but comes down to missing a game in week one to kind of test what Jamar Chase's limits are here I think the Bengals might feel like they can survive because they have another star receiver to work with I felt a heck of a lot better about this situation before I saw that super cut of Zack Taylor you could see the confidence like weaking out of him as the week went on talking about whether or not Chase would be there and I get why Chase wouldn't obviously his value to the team is uh tremendous because while bill is correct and noting Higgins has been excellent he's played well when Chase hasn't been in there it's also been obvious that the Bengals are moving on from Higgins and they are choosing Chase but they can't choose Chase if Chase isn't there um the other thing I would say about this is while they have played well without Higgins uh they have also had Tyler Boyd in that most of those games if I remember correctly and if you take chase out of the equation Higgin slides up to your number one suddenly you're looking at a really young group of pass catchers behind him Chase has been by Far Over Joe bro's career the leader and Target share on third down against the Blitz uh and he's been such a security blanket for him and also a source of explosive plays in those situations it would be really tricky to not have him at the start of the Season against the Patriots defense by the way that for all of the doubts people have about New England this year is still uh solid on that side of the ball you know Zack Taylor reminded me of like being a parent and thinking you're an expert on something and then it just keeps smacking you in the face like every single thing you're doing wrong and you're like okay maybe not maybe I didn't know anything after all uh welcome to every day of my life all right let's talk about a game that's now just a week away the NFL heads to Brazil the eagers and Eagles and Packers go head-to-head in South Paulo Jordan love looks to build on the momentum of his first season as a starter that included a playoff win meanwhile Jaylen Herz gets ready for his fifth different play caller since being drafted by Philly Jaylen Herz excelled in 2022 but didn't have as much success in key aspects of the game last season his qbr on play action and in the Red Zone decreased significantly and his fourth quarter qbr plummeted as you see there most of his troubles came late in the season through week 12 he had the sixth best qbr in the league and then from then on he ranked 15th Kell Moore now steps in as the new OC and Herz is excited about the new possibilities offensively in Philly new offensive coordinator I assume when everyone gets a new offensive coordinator you probably have some new stuff is that much of a big deal you know I think playing quarterback touching the every play having different voices having different thought processes I think that changes the dynamic of what a system fully is you know and I think throughout the game it's more common than not to have very similar plays and ideas and manipulate the same Defenders throughout all the systems in the NFL but I think the one thing that's different is how you coach those things how you prepare those things and so I have all this experience dating back to my freshman year in college coaches have changed often but I've been able to pull so many different nuggets and so I'm excited for what's the come with Coach a fantastic story there interview by ancap's cover story so check out the rest of that Jeremy what have you learned about the relationship so far how it's meshed between offensive coordinator Kell Moore and Jaylen Herz in cam well Laura Jaylen Herz needed a new Voice last year head coach Nick serani took a handson approach and there was tension between the two there's just no way around it this year serani has taken a hands-off approach given the keys to Kell Moore to operate this thing and I'm told the relationship so far has been really positive because Kell Moore has sort of an understated demeanor but he'll also be direct with Jaylen tell him if he missed a read he'll let him know but it's never personal and so Kell Moore and quarterback coach Doug nuser have been together for a long time three stops Dallas Chargers last year and now together with Philly so they know what they need out of quarterback play I'm also told that that regime has seen a little bit of Dak Prescott in Jaylen Herz that he can deliver from the pocket but he's also at his best when he's moving around a little bit Yeah Mina that kind of gives you a little peak of what we may see what are you most interested in when it comes to what this actual scheme will look like with Kell Moore now at the helm first and foremost you want to see if Jaylen Herz performs better against the blitz Jeremy bringing up Dak Prescott is interesting because he's excellent against the blitz with more we'll see if that translates with Herz because that was probably his biggest issue last year as a quarterback another thing though I want to see is um something that happened last year when defenses didn't fear Jaylen herz's legs as much because he wasn't as explosive on the ground they played more to High coverage and against those looks the Eagles went from third and success rate six in EPA per play in 2022 second half of last year they were 12th and 13th it felt like they didn't have answers against that looks those looks Pard me the same way they did the year before a lot of that had to do with jayen Herz as a runner if that's the case this year for Kell Moore I think the is can you use Sequon Barkley in some capacity as a pass catcher Dallas Goddard is another player I'd like to see working that short intermediate middle of the field uh because I think defens are going to play them that way until Herz shows that he can punish them with his legs and I want to see if Moore has answers Yeah you mentioned the Blitz and it really feels like that's just not a performance thing for Jaylen Herz that was a structural issue with this offense under Nick serani the past couple Seasons obviously they did a lot of things well on offense but they didn't have the side adjustments the hot reads built into the offense that a lot of teams have for blitzes it was really just hey Jaylen if there's a guy on you get the ball to one of your big receivers and figure it out and it was a problem for this offense and teams latched on to it in the second half of last year his interception rate more than or about doubl over the last two years when Jaylen Herz was blitzed versus when he was not blitzed and so I think for Kell Moore this is about giving Jaylen Herz answers in the passing game giving him solutions to work with especially in a post Jason k Kel protection Universe now that he has the ability to make those decisions have answers after the snap and make his life easier against the blitz don't make jayen hurts turn into the magician take too many extra hits and hopefully keep him healthy all the way through a deep playoff run in Philadelphia I was talking to Nick Sabin about Jaylen Herz just the other day certainly coached him at a very high level
