in 1989 five black and Latino teenagers from Harlem were wrongfully convicted for the brutal assault of a jogger in Central Park known as the Central Park 5 they were coerced into false confessions and spent years in prison for a crime they didn't commit despite the lack of physical evidence the media and public opinion turned against them it wasn't until 2002 when the real perpetrator confessed that their convictions were overturned the C Park 5 story remains a powerful example of racial Injustice and the flaws in the criminal justice system today the men now known as the exonerated five continue to share their story advocating for justice and reform ensuring that such a miscarriage of justice is never repeated
