Notre Dame should be ELIMINATED from College Football Playoff convo after loss to Northern Illinois

he here's the problem the problem is that when Marcus Freeman is at his press conference and he says we've been here before it I understand one read of that is like and we're gonna bounce back like we have before but it's like no no no Marcus that is the problem the problem is we have been here before we have been here before with you losing at home to an unranked team that you were heavily favored to beat the fact that we are back here and you've been here before is a problem so Notre Dame one thing that hasn't happened before or at least under Marcus Freeman they have not lost to an unranked team as a top five as a top five team since 2002 also hey congrats to Thomas hammock in Northern Illinois that is the max first ever win against the top five team the Mac was previously 0 and 51 one and 51 now baby one and 51 now and look we'll get to BG for me in a little bit because we almost had I mean this was almost yeah we almost had maack out the gate like just wall to wall um I I I'll I'll just sort of open this up with a little bit I didn't get into this game until late until I realized it was a problem did you all see the early stages of this I had it on one of the Quad boxes but I was not watching it super in intently um so the Irish defense did not play like that poorly from like an points perspective but I will say this I just got to look because like that's such a bankable like defense they always play great defense that is the most yards I believe they have allowed in at least the last 14 games and I stopped looking because I was doing show prep but like that might have been like since like mid 2022 they they didn't allow 388 I believe at all last year so that's pretty impressive they allowed nordon Illinois to hold the ball for a long long time in this game they converted like seven of 16 I think it was on third down you kept that Notre Dame offense off the field you know what else kept Notre Notre Dame offense off the field guys Notre Dame's on offense because they just could not pass the football 32 attempts for 162 that's terrible like I I understand you didn't want to run Riley L in fact that was my entire basis for liking the Irish last week is like hey you got three pretty lame opponents coming up you can probably get by without having to run Riley Leonard well Leonard's not a great passer like I think this is something that we kind of nailed on the show like he's not really an NFL guy has great sack avoidance what happens after he avoids the sack is let's just let's kind of ignore that but man I don't know what the heck was going on there but not Notre Dame looked slower than NIU like NIU looked like they had a lot more juice and I'm not saying they didn't try as hard but they looked like their feet were in in sludge man I don't get it oh like they beat Texas A&M in College Station and maybe this week in practice it wasn't really like you know one really that same energy that they had going into last week I mean again like Freeman goes back and he says you know this is on me our preparation and this that or the other like yeah no kidding I mean this it is something that you can see in college football these are 18 to 22 year olds and sometimes one team comes out with a lot more juice like they were ready to play in a way that the other team was not I uh I was talking with the guy I like like talking betting with and we were talking North Carolina Charlotte game and he was like do you like North Carolina it's like nope I do not lay three three plus scores with ma Brown I don't trust that team to come out like they've lost the game on the field too many times Marcus Freeman's m brown status for me now like this is probably the biggest upset we will have the entire season four touchdown Underdog comes into South bin I understand if you sleep walk a little bit and you okay okay hey that was fun we still won by 10 right you cannot be losing a game like this as a four touchdown favorite in year year three like what are you what is going on I'll tell you what's going on Marcus Freeman got fired today yeah might not it not happening today it might not happen for might not happen till next year but Marcus Freeman when when he is fired you'll look back and point at this game was the moment that everybody kind of knew that this was going to be the outcome this was going to be what had happened because again yeah you lost it home to Northern Illinois and Northern Illinois really did not play all that spectacularly it's just you couldn't do anything on offense like if you look at the numbers Northern didn't really have a lot of explosive plays they hit some big passes and it's like when they threw it they got you know they had some some some skill a lot of luck but overall what they did was they just kind of stayed on schedule in the Run game they weren't busting big runs they were just getting like three or four yards and like chip you always say you average three yards a carry that's a first or three and a half yards a carry that's a first down and that's just kind of what Northern Illinois was doing and then on the other side how the hell do you only score 14 points against Northern Illinois if you're Notre Dame like you brought in Mike Den Brock you bring in Riley Leonard there's all the hype about how you know this offense is going to be incredible your receivers are finally better and they looked good last week even though the outcome statistically was not overly impressive you figure on the road against Kyle you know in Kyle Field against the aies you give him the benefit of the doubt there a little bit especially with such a young offensive line then you come home against Northern Illinois a bunch of kids who Notre Dame didn't even Swift like sniff out of college okay let me ask you this this we had had a debate in the preseason if 10 and2 was automatic yes into the playoff for the Irish oh no and you know no you're about to send me on a rant 10 and two is gone now I'm pretty sure no you're about to send me on a rant okay I want to hear this because Notre Dame losing at home to Northern Illinois and they're still being talk about well you can get to the college football playoff anyway if you win out is why the 12 team playoff is terrible Notre Dame shouldn't be able to get to the damn playoff after losing it home to Northern Illinois losing it home to Northern Illinois is pretty solid proof you aren't the best team in the country so you really shouldn't have the right to play to be the best team in the country this is why I hate the 12 team playoff because it's like well it doesn't kill their season it should it might it might not but it might I I think Louisville will kill their season in South Bend I think Louisville can score 30 on them I I don't think they dead now man you lost to Northern Illinois they're 10-point favorites at Purdue next week Vegas thinks they've got like capital P problems and they might it also depends like what do we think A&M is right we were making judgments based off Notre Dame saying we like the just Collective college ball fans and they they played winning football down there in College Station but they didn't like wow like they weren't amazing they just made fewer mistakes than Texas A&M did which you have a lot more returning experience than the aies did um yeah I I mean I don't know if people like that's probably the biggest upset we'll see all year we go entire Seasons sometimes well 28 to 29 is usually yeah the biggest upset of the season right I mean that there's what like H when Howard beat UNLV five six years ago remember it was like like a 40 Point dog uh the um the Stanford USC game from 20 year 15 20 years ago when when when Harbaugh beat uh U beat Carol Carol What's your deal yeah that was that was pretty huge but this is this is CRA I I think I mean the Irish clearly have to run the table now to make the college ball playoff I mean you would have to be an idiot to be in public talking about how you were thinking about Northern Illinois plus 29 and a half but not taking Northern Illinois plus 29 and a half like you would really have to be a stone cold idiot just I not jump you know into the pool it at a minimum though wouldn't it be funny principle how many parlays do you think this killed like how many people just do in the Irish like mine is a billion not that many because like Notre Dame was such a big favorite that like all those parlay boosts that the books give you they would they wouldn't allow that game they wouldn't count it for the parlay yeah bud doesn't know parlay rules see ain't play those parlay games let's go I love that you get a parlay boost but it's only got to be 500 odds or better yeah um it's uh it it's an interesting Road forward for Notre Dame for sure coming up shout out real quick to that that husky defense oh yeah because we have remarked before and accurately that they do the whole Run game and defense thing except they don't actually do the defense thing they just say they do but they don't like last year their defense was terrible it's like cool so you guys do run game poor quarterback play and and no defense they brought the defense I shout out to Thomas H yeah I mean former Northern Illinois he was a running back right running back yeah yeah former Northern Illinois running back he's at his alma mater um I I heard the replay with the radio call like the the Northern Illinois radio broadcast they called it in the moment the biggest win in program history mean like if if you're a Northern Illinois graduate or fan I mean this this is this is an unbelievable unbelievable day they beat somebody the year they got to the Orange Bowl but it wasn't like Notre Dame on the road right I can't remember who they beat though because that was doran's team which by the way we'll get into get into that in a little bit yeah
