Lincoln Tunnel Traffic Nightmare: Truck Overturns at Height of July 4 Travel | News 4 Now

Intro hey everyone i'm adam cooper steena this is news 4 now for Wednesday July 3rd which I think we can all agree feels like the day before the 4th of July it's thick out there and it's gonna stay hot and muggy through the holiday but at least it'll be dry for your cookout of your outdoor plans even if we're not drying or sweating a little bit you can expect highs in the upper 80s and now we want to get to a badly timed crash as everyone's trying to get away for the weekend a trash truck flipped off an overpass just outside the Lincoln Tunnel in New Jersey look at this a trash truck hanging off the side of a retaining wall near palisade Avenue in route 495 in Union City authorities say the driver lost control of the truck around 1:00 p.m. and it ran into several cars flipped over and plunged nose-first onto the highway in all five vehicles were damaged a dozen people were hurt but miraculously nobody was killed this could have been so much worse and it wasn't the timing holiday weekend essentially is so much better than it being about 5 o'clock on a holiday weekend but still for thousands of Lincoln Tunnel Traffic Nightmare commuters trying to get home on one of the summer's busiest travel days the timing really was just downright off this is what it looked like outside the Port Authority Bus Terminal earlier this afternoon after officials suspended all service for hours some buses started rolling again at around 5 p.m. but there were still residual delays of course and things not a lot better if you were the one behind the wheel either with drivers being told just to avoid the Lincoln Tunnel altogether at all costs and now New York Heroes Funeral we turn to a final salute for a New York hero thousands attend to the funeral for September 11th first responder Luis Alvarez bagpipes played as the 53 year olds flag-draped casket was carried into a church in Astoria alvarez died just a few weeks after going to washington to push for the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund alongside former Daily Show host Jon Stewart he went his last days he knew he was sick he still went to Washington and he always thought others besides himself okay take a good look here at this man police say he mugged an 88 year old woman in broad daylight it happened back on June 24th and Midwood section of Brooklyn detectives say he pushed her down snatched a $900 necklace off her neck and took off that woman luckily was not seriously injured and finally mark your New Jersey Mega Mall calendars we finally know when new jersey's mega mall is gonna open for business the American Dream in the Meadowlands officially opens on October 25th this mall has been in the works for years now it was originally called Xanadu that's when construction started in 2005 its current developers acquired the project eight years ago when the original developers just ran out of money and that's all for news for now but stay tuned for an exclusive look at how the NYPD is keeping the city safe on Independence Day i'm adam cooper scene i'll see you right back here on friday after the holiday have a go [Music]
