And now to new information, we've just learned about three Dallas police officers shot in the line of duty last night. The suspect shot one of them in what police chief Eddie Garcia calls one of the most brutal cop killings he's ever seen. Thank you for joining us tonight. I'm Cynthia Segure and I'm Chris Lawrence. The department just confirmed the identities of all three officers and we can, we can share a bit more about them. Senior Corporal Jamie Farmer was the first officer to respond to the initial shooting. Officer Farmer was just released from the hospital and is now recovering at home. Senior Corporal Carissa David exchanged shots with the suspect. It remains in critical condition and the officer who first encountered that suspect Darren Burkes died today at Methodist. Officer Burks was shot just after 10 o'clock last night in the parking lot of four Oak Cliff off of Leadbetter Drive near 35. The two other officers who were bonded were also shot before that suspect took off. He led DPD on a chase for more than 30 minutes up 35 to Lewisville, that suspect eventually shot and killed. We have a team of reporters on this. You know, Ford just sat down with some of Officer Burke's close friends and Cole Sullivan just spoke with the suspect's family. But we begin tonight with senior crime and justice reporter Rebecca Lopez Rebecca. You just got new information in the past hour. Yes, Chief Eddie Garcia says that this was an execution of one of his officers. He said his officers were targeted and that this suspect was intent on killing them just because of the uniform that they wear. This all started last night on Leadbetter. As we mentioned, Chief Garcia says the suspect Corey Cobb Bay was parked in a parking lot at Leadbetter. Officer Darren Burkes pulled into that parking lot. He was in between calls. Chief Garcia says the suspect Officer Burke's squad car and started talking to him. Garcia says, Kabe pulled out a weapon and shot Burkes in the head killing him. As we have been reporting a dispatcher heard the officer trying to say something, make some kind of noise. The dispatcher couldn't reach the officer so they located the officer with GPS and sent officers to check on him. Garcia says the first officer to arrive was Officer Jamie Farmer Cobb Bay exchanged gunfire with officer Farmer who was shot in the leg officer, Carissa David, as we mentioned was next, she was shot in the face. The suspect used two different weapons to shoot at those officers DPD officers. As you mentioned, just chase Cobb bay to Louisville. He got out of his car with a rifle, several DPD officers opened fire killing him. Police recovered four weapons. Initially, sources have been describing this to me as an ambush but Garcia says this was much more than an ambush. Our officers were targeted for nothing more than the uniform they wear and for the brave and honorable job that they do. I do wanna make something clear. I know that the word ambush has been thrown around in the last 24 hours or so. That's not what happened here. Officer Burks was executed. Garcia got emotional again as he talked about Officer Burkes, he actually pinned his badge on him at graduation in December. He said he also met with Officer Burkes family. He says they hugged, they cried and that his mother is a woman of deep faith. Uh He says that she is a very strong woman woman. Garcia says that this investigation is obviously in its initial stages but does plan to release the body worn camera footage. And he ended this press conference by saying that this department is hurting.
