Joe Schmidt was one tough football player from Brentwood smart strong Fearless I just thought you know playing football was the greatest thing in the world especially going to pit Stadium he had that neck of being where the ball was he just had a god-given ability the one uh game in particular was in 1952 when pit went out to play Notre Dame you saw the ball the quarterback didn't take it big big drop he just went back maybe maybe a yard or two and he released the ball and the tight end came off the line of scrimmage and he was looking for an Ike but right in front of him and the ball hit my hand and I got it ran the west of the way thought been a better ball carryer looks like that was really second win there very uh dangerous to come across the middle for passes against Joe played through an array of injuries as a Collegian played under a number of different coaching changes but it never deterred him and as a senior he was a first team All-American he didn't have great teams around him but certainly his greatness proved itself in the college game the fact that he stood on the steps at Canton Ohio kind of tells you what kind of player he was for all the football rewards that came my way and now here at myom M he said I couldn't be any more grateful for the fact that I came to pit I played football because I really enjoyed it I if I could be playing today I'd still be playing [Music]
