'Texas WON'T RUN the SEC!' - Nick Saban NOT SOLD on Longhorns 👀 | Get Up

underway Heather and Paul are there in Dallas I want to do a little sound off okay let's go through some of the most interesting sound bites from day one and we'll start with actually our new colleague Nick sabbin he was talking about the newest SEC member Texas and how he thinks his old assistant Steve sarkeesian's team is going to do this year with their move you know what kind of tickles me is all these people asking these questions about how Texas always ran the conference they were in they they're not going to run the SEC there's a whole lot of arogant a lot of places in the so I can forget all about that okay I mean I like it right away Heather what do we make of that well with all due respect to coach sain I'll just remind everyone that Texas went to Tuscaloosa and beat them by double digits last year so there's that that's why they were in the college football playoff last year they should beat Georgia in Austin that's my prediction and then play Georgia again in the SEC Championship and lose to the Bulldogs at that point they could play each other three times cuz they might face each other again in the college football playoff if the seatings work out but look this is the deepest team that Steve sarkeesian has had there and that is critical because if you are going to survive as many as 17 games to win the national title the teams that have the depth are the ones that can do it now Paul I I remember it's interesting one thing uh Nick sabbin was offered the Texas job in 2013 and he later told me I don't know if he was going to go or not but he said I don't want to answer to 15 or 20 or 30 people so I think that's where some of that arrogance that that has that many people accused Texas of having uh entered into the equation there fa fair enough as we pointed out earlier today I mean you got Georgia going to Texas in October Georgia will already have been in Alabama and will have played a neutral sight game against Clemson so there could be a lot at stake by the time Georgia goes to Austin in mid October in the meantime Paul I did want to ask you with regard to Texas I mean and I I'm going to have to get used to asking you about Texas and Oklahoma you know they they signed Arch Manning and he was the highest profile quarterback recruit ever I I I don't even think it was close but we're not expecting to see him play right because the the kid I had in font of him Quinn yers is the player that people are telling me is going to be the Super highly ranked kid for the entirety of the season do we expect to see Arch Manning at all I think we'll see him at some point but it's worth remembering about ERS he was the number one player in the country a couple years ago and he went to Ohio State he quickly left there and uh he has had some moments uh of difficulty at Texas but but he emerged last year and was really one of the better quarterbacks in the country battling injury at times but I don't think Arch Manning is a factor to start but it it helps uh enhance Texas's quarter back room uh I mean nobody's got a backup like Arch Manning so I think he will play a role I just don't think he'll be an overwhelming uh factor in Texas's quest for a national championship that's fair I just I did not expect to hear myself having conversations about Arch Manning being a backup this deep into his college career meanwhile Texas as we know is not the only new member of the conference joining them in the move is Oklahoma the conference is now 16 strong and the commissioner Greg sanki and I listened to this entire thing uh he he really leaned into sticking to that number to the significance and the specificity of the teams they chose using the phrase it just means more in the SEC here's what he said we know who we are in the Southeastern Conference we're the one conference at this level where the name still means something the Southeastern part of the United States where when we expanded we actually restored historic rivalries yeah look I mean and there was a more to that that that was worth hearing talking about the teams they added added contiguous states I mean look let's just point out the things that have happened here the Big 10 which is traditionally a conference that is made up of teams in the in the in the midwest part of the country now have Maryland and ruter on one coast and they have Washington and UCLA on the other coast the ACC the Atlantic Coast Conference has schools that play on the Pacific Ocean so I mean the SEC I think has a point had to be made here and I understand where the commissioner is coming from these felt like very very logical additions they do and you know we've talked to Coach Steve sarkeesian about some of these rivalries that are going to come back within this conference and he's very excited about those but at the same time you would expect Greg sanki to say what he did and every time he gets a chance to be at the podium and makes some points like that and the strength of the SEC he does but we can't forget that the Big 10 is going to have some terrific games as well with its conference expansion and when it comes to the power plays it's the SEC the Big 10 and Notre Dame we can't forget about Notre Dame because my sources have told me that when the new playoff Revenue kicks in in 2026 and beyond that school is going to make roughly $18 million which is going to put it it ahead of the ACC and the Big 12 so we're talking about power and geography and all that in the SEC and it's absolutely true but at the same time the power lies within the SEC and the Big 10 and Notre Dame as far as the future of college football goes well and Paul there there also and I saw this in your notes by by sanki continuously saying we're focused on R16 we're focused on R16 that could also been a message to two other schools yeah griny uh Clemson and especially Florida State have been making a lot of noise Florida State just went rogue uh about a year ago saying uh it it's too good essentially my words not theirs for the ACC Clemson has been a drafting partner but there's no there doesn't seem to be any interest right now uh in really either the Big 10 or the SEC for them I think the real schools to keep your eye on down the road if the ACC starts to show fractures and that's the University of North Carolina both the big 10 and the SEC I think would listen if Chapel Hill called and then the question is who else would come along with them from the ACC Heather final word yeah I would just add Virginia to that list too but I do believe Greg sanki when he says he's not a recruiter of course he's there people are calling him but he will not entangle the SEC in any of the legalities that are going on with the ACC that's for sure
