[Music] this is the ACC SEC battle that you never thought you needed right the Virginia Tech hes are going to travel to Nashville to take on the Vanderbilt commodor at 12:00 p.m. eastern time on ESPN in week one Virginia Tech currently a 14-point favorite at bet us Juiced at minus 115 there and uh and there's a total of 54 on this one the uh the market money line has uh let's see Virginia Tech minus 550 so that's implied odds of 84.62% chance to win the game uh let's talk dopest helmet I'll start the new VY V looks absurd I'm on Virginia Tech with this one Parker what about you yeah I like I like Virginia Tech for for sure Vanderbilt you know they I feel like they can't decide if they want to be classic I can't decide if they want to be modern I'm out on it I like the Virginia Tech for sure KY what about you definitely out on the V El we're going to go uh Virginia Tech on this one does anybody like the new Vanderbilt logo I mean the one with the star was was pretty cool it was classic it was whatever but like I cannot get with that V it's just absurd uh let's talk Trends let's talk Trends Vanderbilt two and seven against the spread as a home dog the last two seasons and Virginia Tech covered three of their last four on the road to end last year Parker uh Brent pry has has built a solid foundation in Blacksburg schedule sets up nicely uh but Vandy has given us some surprises in the past how are you looking at at this one yeah uh I mean they they you know did did well against Hawaii what was it the two years ago where everybody had over three and a half for Vanderbilt and it cashed you know almost immediately and and they just kind of knew I don't think this is that team for sure um I believe in Brent pry I I think in the past we've talked about Gary and Kyle you know somebody getting the NC State treatment where was that 2021 where they had high returning production and everybody was just so high and kind of you know got it in front of their skis on on how good they were going to be knowing they were going to be good I think Virginia Tech I was worried about the being this team this year you know you go on Instagram and see my top three sleepers and everybody says Virginia te is number one I think the fundamentals are there they've got the returning production um pry pry has made good defenses historically and they've been great you go back and watch some of their games last year and they really just lost a little bit at the margin with some some inexperience and so that that really gets mitigated with this experience here um Kiren drones you know really really good at those medium passes that are in structure make a read throw the ball I think where he struggled last year was the deep ball placement wasn't amazing only a 21% completion uh percent on throws 20 yards down field and those short passes you know he was only 70% on short zero to nine passes a lot of those were him rolling out and having to choose do I run or do I not and then at the last minute kind of thrown it across the field off it I think those are reps and timing that you can fix I think what they want to do for drones is say your legs are an amazing weapon we're going to use those strategically make the Easy Pass get the six yards that's there trust your wide receiver I think if they can do that the ceiling of this offense goes absolutely to the Moon I like them a whole lot I think Vanderbilt is struggling with identity uh just just broadly you know I love what Clark Lee did bringing in Barton Simmons saying hey this is a hard job we're going to do what we can here I still don't know that they found it per se maybe Jerry kill coming in helps with that a little bit but I like Virginia Tech to make a statement here I have them substantially much uh substantially better than than Vanderbilt and I'm going to trust that drones is going to make that leap the returning production is going to be there the consistency from pry is going to matter so I'm going to take Virginia Tech here or not take we're not doing official I'm going to lean strongly and when we do this game we week up I'll probably take Virginia Tech yeah this thing was at 12 and a half at one point it's up to 14 now I share your sentiments about Virginia Tech right the hes are number four in adjusted returning production vandy's number 31 so I mean there's going to be some experience out on the field the difference between these two rests on defense really as you mentioned with pry uh I've got Vandy as the number 102 defense in the country Virginia Tech I've got them at number 34 now if you look at net success rate last year Virginia Tech was number 30 Vanderbilt was number 128 now some of that had to do with the schedules that they played as far as average 247 excuse me average 247 Talent rating is concerned uh these teams are both top 50 teams right Virginia Tech number 41 Vandy number 49 Virginia Tech are The Darlings but Clark ley's Bunch plays hard and Diego Pavia we know what he does at quarterback my number on this is actually you guys are going to laugh at this I've got the hookies by six but I am so terrified of it that I'm staying away right now Kyle what about you is is there any kind of HomeField advantage or anything that could make you lean vanderville here I think it's Virginia techer pass here I think it's hard to bet uh Vanderbilt and I kind of worry that Virginia Tech will be favored by more than 14 when we come back to this game just because uh there is a lot of hype around Virginia Tech like Parker said now I've seen some people kind of push back against this this is one of those teams where uh some people are super high on Virginia Tech some people think that it's getting a little out of control it's going to be interesting to see how it goes um Virginia Tech season changed when uh drones stepped in as quarterback just far better than Wales uh he really elevated his play at the end of last season too I think he really improved the those last three four or five games to me the key for Virginia Tech this season is their offensive line they've kind of held this team back for several years in a row they weren't quite as bad last year but if you look at their PFF rankings 85th in pass blocking 107th in run blocking last year that was actually a pretty big improvement from what they've been some of the other years I think they'll probably be better this year but it's still the one question mark I have about Virginia Tech is can their offensive line be good enough to help the offense uh be consistently good um pvea I know he was really good for New Mexico state um and I like him but you know he's pretty inconsistent and this is a really big step up in competition I mean just a massive step up so I'm not really optimistic that it will go really well for him uh he's definitely a gamer plays hard but uh when you have the talent around him that he has here this year running backs wide receivers lack of an offensive line it's gonna be a tough job for pavilla this year and I have to say and Parker Parker's gonna like this one uh those who read Phil Steel's college football preview he does have a lot of fantastic information by the way great stuff uh everybody's going get this that reads that magazine but steel put this group can only get better in a bunch of Vanderbilt's areas this group can only get better like it was so bad they can only get better but as Parker has said before it actually can get worse so we we never know about that I'm going to lean Virginia Tech here but I think 14 is just a little bit too much for me to actually play it I I'm in the same boat uh you mentioned Pavia and and what he can do against a better competition uh against Auburn last year on the road and we know that Auburn mailed that one in however 19 of 28 passing for 2011 yards three touchdowns no picks in that game so and that's still against look look the motivation was different but that's against four and five star athletes that's not nothing yeah that's not nothing so he the guy's a dog and and yes he's inconsistent but he is a dog so I'm I'm terrified anytime to bet against that guy so so just just throwing that out there uh quick reminder if you enjoy the show go and help us out by liking the video go on to tell your friends about it uh as well and if you have not already uh hit subscribe hit the notification Bell so that way you know exactly when we're going live uh we're going to be back here in two weeks to go over Futures and then it's time for week the show [Music]
