Also tonight, three MS 13 gang members are facing life in prison without parole. Here they are right here. A Montgomery County jury just convicted all of them on murder charges. Prosecutors say they killed an innocent man and just terrorized an entire neighborhood. Our Rafael Sanchez Cruz is outside of Montgomery County Circuit Court. Tonight in Rafael, we know these convictions are historic, right? Lorenzo. Tonight, Montgomery County prosecutors are calling this conviction historic because they tell us it's the first time they've been able to find someone guilty for what they call the gang statue, which means that they were able to prove that these are, in fact members of the gang La Mara Salva also known as MS 13. Investigators say that in November of 2022 Junior Francisco del CID, Elmer Lopez, Cortez and Elvin Guzman Machado opened fire on a group of men on Colony Road in Silver Spring. These men were sitting around talking, drinking and dancing. That's how they were spending their evening. Witnesses told investigators they heard between 15 to 20 rounds and four men were injured. One of the victims identified as 19 year old Williams Anderson. Alberto Cruz died from the injuries. We're not naive about what's happening in that neighborhood. We know that MS 13 in that neighborhood terrors that neighborhood. Prosecutors say the MS 13 gang had designated the neighborhood as their territory by spray painting trees. But someone painted over the graffiti. Montgomery County State's attorney says the gang members opened fire in retaliation. They believe the victims were responsible for defacing their markings, but investigators say they were mistaken, the victims in this case were unarmed did not fire back and probably had no idea whatsoever as to why they were being fired upon. At the time. The men are now facing life in prison without parole and four consecutive life sentences after a jury found them guilty on all charges including first degree murder. 1/4 man, 26 year old Dora Leon Chacon of Silver Spring is still pending charges for this case and is set for trial in June of next year. Montgomery county officials are in part crediting the community for coming forward. In this case, it takes everybody. We need their eyes and ears in these cases. We could not do that without the community's help. In this case, authorities tell us there's still a lot of work that needs to be done in this piney branch community where MS 13 continues to terrorize neighbors. I'm live in Rock, Rafael Sanchez Cruz and hopefully our neighbors in Montgomery County will be able to rest a little easier tonight with these Convictions Rafa. Thank you.
