I want to take a moment to address something that's been weighing heavily on my heart recently my performance at the break dance competition stirred up quite a bit of controversy and I feel it's important to speak directly to the break dance Community about it first off I want to sincerely apologize I know that my routine didn't resonate with many of you and I can see how it might have come off as disrespectful to the culture and the art form that so many of you hold dear break dancing is not just a dance it's a powerful expression of identity creativity and Community it's a legacy that has been built over decades and I recognize that I stepped into that space without fully understanding its significance when I Was preparing for my performance I was excited to Showcase my skills and bring something fresh to the stage but in my eagerness I lost sight of the roots of break dancing I didn't take the time to appreciate the history the struggles and the triumphs that have shaped this incredible art form form I realize now that my interpretation may have felt like an appropriation rather than a celebration and for that I am truly sorry I've spent the last few weeks reflecting on what went wrong and how I can learn from this experience I've been reaching out to dancers listening to their stories and trying to understand the nuances of break dancing that I overlooked it's been an eye- openening to hear about the dedication the battles and the community that thrives within this culture I've come to appreciate the skill and Artistry that that goes into every move every freeze and every spin I want to make it clear that I respect the breakdance community and all that it represents I'm committed to doing better I want to learn from you not just as a performer but as a supporter of this vibrant culture I'm hoping to collaborate with dancers attend workshops and immerse myself in the community to gain a deeper understanding of what makes break dancing so special I know that words alone won't menend the hurt that my performance may have caused lost actions speak louder and I'm ready to put in the work I want to show my commitment to honoring the culture and the people who have dedicated their lives to this art form thank you for your patience and understanding as I navigate this journey I hope to earn your trust back and contribute positively to the break Dan Community moving forward let's keep the conversation going and together let's celebrate the beauty of break dancing in a way that uplifts and respects everyone involved
