Apple Watch Series 10 vs Series 9 - Should You Upgrade?

Apple watch fans we've got the latest Contender on our wrists the Apple Watch series 10 going head-to-head with its predecessor the series 9 both watches compacted with exceptional features like heart rate monitoring ECG and access to all of Apple's fitness apps but this time around Apple has thrown in some exciting upgrades like a new titanium finish a Slimmer design and a larger display the question is do these changes make series 10 worth the jump if you already Ona series 9 let's dive into a detailed comparison one of the most noticeable differences right away is the design the series 10 is slimmer and sleeker breaking new ground with a subcentimeter thickness of just 9.7 mm that's a significant reduction from the series 99's 10.7 mm thickness this makes it one of Apple's slimmest SmartWatches to date what's more the series 10 is available in two new sizes 42 mm and 46 mm replacing the 41 mm and 45 mm options from series 9 although the volume has slightly increased the watch feels lighter on the wrist especially in the titanium model which replaces the stainless steel version from the series 9 titanium is not just lighter but also stronger giving the series 10 a premium feel similar to the Apple watch Ultra in terms of of weight the titanium models of the series 10 are nearly 20% lighter than the stainless steel series 9 so if you're after a lightweight Smartwatch this is a huge plus Apple even introduced a stunning new jet black finish in aluminum for the series 10 which is a showstopper now let's talk about that display the series 10 boasts a larger screen compared to the series 9 with the case sizes increasing by 1 mm that may not sound like a lot but it translates to a 9% increase in the display area thanks to edgo Edge OLED technology that extra screen real estate makes a difference especially when you're glancing at notifications or using text based apps and while the series 9 already had an impressive 2,000 nits of brightness the series 10 steps It Up by enhancing the viewing angles when viewed from an angle the screen appears up to 40% brighter perfect for outdoor use or when you're checking your watch on the go however the always display on both models remains largely the same in terms of brightness but with the series 10 Apple has improved responsiveness allowing for updates every second rather than every minute if you're someone who likes using the secondhand on your watch face this is a subtle yet satisfying upgrade under the hood both watches are powered by Apple's latest silicon the series 10 introduces the new S10 chip succeeding the series 99's S9 while both are 64-bit dual core processors with a quad core neural engine the S10 promises better efficiency and faster performance for tasks like onat Siri however in day-to-day use the difference in speed between the two processors isn't huge they both handle watch o1 with ease and feature Apple's new double tap gesture that said the series 10 does have one advantage faster charging Apple claims that it can charge up to 80% in just 30 minutes which is about 15 minutes quicker than the series 9 if you're into water sports the series 10 has a clear Edge it features a new depth gauge and water temperature sensors letting you measure your depth up to 6 M underwater and track water temperatures plus it adopts the oceanic Plus app previously exclusive to the Apple watch Ultra making it a better companion for snorkelers and divers for swimmers and Surfers the series 10 adds another layer of functionality but for everyone else the series 9 offers essentially the same Core Fitness features heart rate monitoring ECG temperature tracking and sleep apnea notifications are available on both models when it comes to battery life both watches are pretty much identical Apple claims up to 18 hours of use on a single charge with normal usage or up to 36 hours in low power mode real world testing of the series 9 showed that it can last over 30 hours with moderate usage and we expect similar ilar performance from the series 10 so if battery life is a deal breaker for you there's no major advantage in upgrading both the series 9 and series 10 use the W3 Wireless chip and Ultra wideband technology supporting features like Precision tracking and find my capabilities surprisingly the series 10 hasn't seen a price hike despite the upgrades it starts at $399 for the 42mm GPS only aluminum model the same as the series 9 if you opt for the titanium model it'll set you back $699 but it's worth noting that the titanium variant is significantly lighter than the stainless steel series 9 so should you upgrade the Apple Watch series 10 brings some meaningful improvements especially in design screen size and swimming focused features the titanium casing and Slimmer profile will be appealing to anyone who wants a lighter sleeker Smartwatch that said the series 9 still holds its ground offering almost all the same features without the design refresh if you already own a series 9 the decision boils down to how much you value the new materials thinner profile and slightly larger screen but if you're coming from an older Apple watch or want the best that Apple has to offer right now the series 10 is certainly worth considering either way you're getting a top-notch smartwatch experience let us know in the comments are you
