[Music] [Music] welcome in to the 247 sports college football show I'm Emily proud coming to you live from our Nashville Studios so excited you decided to join us today because we have a loaded show I know the week three slate might not be the strongest but there is still so much to talk about this week so here is what is on today's show the microscope in Colorado continues to get bigger coach Prime and his son shadur Sanders are facing some heat we'll head to the Rocky Mountains to get the real story on the rocky start plus Brad Crawford shares an updated playoff bracket that does not include Notre Dame so what's next for the Irish after another inexplicable loss under Marcus Freeman but the Irish not the only team feeling not great after week two we get on the ground reporting on what's wrong in Michigan Florida State and NC State and we bring in our football doctor to prescribe the solution but let's start Today's Show in the Pack 12 where it was announced just yesterday the two- team conference would add four more teams Colorado State Fresno State San Diego State and Boise State will all become members of the pack in 2026 we got to talk a little bit more about this so let's bring on our national college football writer John talty who has a great story up on cbssports.com all about this and in it you call the Pack 12 quote an agent of chaos first off love that wording but how did they pull this off John yeah it's funny you know I talked to Washington State ad and Oregon States ad on Wednesday uh hours before this broke and they both told me they were rooting for chaos now I don't know that uh I knew that they were going to actually do it a few hours later but you know this is something they needed to happen I think you could argue that Washington State and Oregon State have perhaps been the biggest losers of the chaos we've seen throughout college football the last few years in particular the last two left when the their 10 colleagues left the Pack 12 a year ago and you know they needed some movement to happen if they were going to survive you know they had looked into trying to get into the Big 12 and the ACC there wasn't a lot of interest there and so instead they're trying to rebuild and what that entails is creating Chaos on their own and that's you know going after the Mountain West going after you know what are the four premier schools uh in terms of value in the Mountain West getting them on board officially yesterday and this is what they needed to do in order to try to keep the Pack 12 going and you at this point they now need two more schools and so that's where the attention is going to turn for how the Pack 12 is going to kind of fill out the rest of its roster and John that's where this conversation is going to turn you said it they need two more to get that minimum of eight members to maintain the Pack 12 past 2026 so who are they pursuing who's in talks yeah you know what we've gotten from multiple different people is that they're going to look East I think the most obvious place to start from multiple people that have told me and our colleagues Dennis DOD and Matt zit is you know looking to the American so that is Memphis tane uh UTSA is one that I've gotten from multiple people that there's a real desire to get into the Texas markets perhaps you pair UTSA with maybe a North Texas which is also in the Americans so that seems to be where uh the kind of the pursuit is right now for uh you for Pack 12 but I think think that's tricky and I think it's a unique strategy the Pack 12 is using in which you know they're kind of framing it as two bites at the Apple they grabbed four so now they're up to six they need at least two more maybe four more depending on who's available and what you're doing is you've eliminated the kind of the uh option of surprise the American knows that you want its schools now and that gives its commissioner Tim petti who is one of the smartest people in the industry a chance to fortify the base and try to keep those schools so it's going to be really interesting to see if they are able to pluck away any of those American schools but you know beyond that some options that you we've heard UNLV there's some political complications there in which you the Nevada politicians don't want UNL UNLV to leave without Nevada we'll see if maybe time allows them to break apart if they are you know getting Vegas would be important for the Pack 12 and then one that you know Matt zenison I mentioned in our national notebook today that it's kind of out there it's not one that I thought of but you know Pack 12 administrator mentioned to us is do you make a run at Yukon you know we know they've been talking to the Big 12 uh the Big 12 was not able to get them on board get its members on board of Yukon doesn't make any sense geographically but you know we live in a world where very little does now in college football so their big name their property do you least kick the tires uh you know one person we talked to would like them to so we'll see if maybe you see some outside the box names also pop up beyond the ones in the American and UNLV that we've gotten consistently from sources we've talked to over the last 36 hours and you said it John now that we live in a world with an Atlantic Coast Conference that involves Cal in Stanford nothing would surprise me anymore in this uh day and age of conference realignment another phrasing that I love you wrote that this conference uh made a move that was a darwinian pursuit of survival looking at the future of the Pack 12 it doesn't feel like it's a power conference I don't know if it fits into the G5 so the Pack 12 is alive at this point but in what state yeah I think that's an open question I think it's going to be curious to see again who they round out the rest of the roster with to kind of where we put them in the pecking order you know as it stands right now it feels below you know I think what is now just a power four um but you know if you add a couple really good schools from the American I think that you would maybe be Cut Above what's currently a group of six or so so I think they're trying to position themselves as the best of the rest now they're of course going to make a strong argument that they belong in the power five and that's you know where they've been in the past that's where they want to be in the future I get all that you know I think the sometimes we need to remember that these terms are really just ones that we in the media use um there is the autonomy thing which has real impact but Power five group of five that's all just terms that we use and really the best way to decide or to know where the Pack 12 fits moving forward is is how much do they get for their TV rights deal that's the kind of the next big question uh with this conference is you know are they able to secure a deal that is better than these other group of five conferences you know right now at the top is the American which is in that eight to1 million range per School some of them are getting less because they're new members but can you get above that number I think they're banking that on that they will and that in itself will put them at a higher level in the the pecking order but that's kind of one of the big questions still to come for the Pack 12 and I think that will also directly impact their ability to you know successfully convince other schools to want to join conference it took some getting used to but uh we have come around to saying power four I'm sure we can learn to say group of six whatever we need I'm just more concerned like you said with how that works with the money and all of it and then also a seat at the college football playoff but John thank you so much for uh taking tabs on this story the world of college football realignment just continues to turn we appreciate you uh Hey speaking of the Pack 12 former member Colorado is coming up a tough loss with another rivalry on deck Saturday the large group of people waiting for Coach Prime to fail well they did not have to wait long this season but most of the talk right now is on his son shter Sanders and his comments and actions following the loss so of course we want to get the real story here there's no one else we would call but this guy and Adam moner tiger from buff Stampede and um Adam things are always going to get picked apart because of the attention on this program but there were a few things drawing criticism shter Sanders of course leaving the game with two minutes on the clock and then he was critical of teammates afterwards so you know better than anyone you're there what's the story here yeah I don't want to come off like a shador Sanders apologist here but starting with the fact that shador Sanders went back to the locker room with two minutes left in the game he took a pretty hard shot on the play in which a Nebraska Defender was ejected for targeting and he and Chidi wanko one of their top defense linemen were both dealing with an injury and as a been explained to us since then is that because of the tightness of Memorial Stadium Sidelines the only time for them to Really Leave the field to go back to the locker room to get checked out by the doctors was during the TV timeout and so it happened to come with 2 minutes left with Ryan St the backup quarterback for Colorado already set set to go in the game it was 28 to10 at that point it was already a wrap and it was a situation where they simply wanted to get a jump start on getting a look at not only shador Sanders but Shido Z wanko and their injuries because when you're on the road you're you're trying to get on that bus and get out of there pretty quickly so that's what happened there um and so it turned into a controversy even though I I I really don't think it it should have been I mean you had a very Rowdy Memorial Stadium crowd and again the only exit to go into the locker room was this very congested area where you know if a fan wanted to reach out and touch you they could so they were trying to uh do what they thought was the the smart thing for shador Sanders and also get that jump start and looking at his medical uh situation uh looking ahead to this year this week because obviously he is the you know the star on this team and then I was in the room for his postgame press conference and I remember his comments saying that well how many times did Dylan Rola get hit in this game that's really the only comment in that entire press conference where he said anything that would be construed as something against Colorado's offensive line he actually didn't take the bait on some of those earlier questions it's only about five and a half minutes if you want to go back and watch the video of that and you know I'll be honest with you uh it's pretty impressive that shador Sanders hasn't said more than that to this point uh in a little more than 10 games last year he was sacked 52 times uh on Saturday against Nebraska he was sacked five times you really look at him and basically at this point he's played little more than 12 games and he's been sacked 58 times as a Colorado Buffalo and that doesn't count the number of of other times that he's been hit uh the play of the offensive line deserves criticism you certainly don't want that to come from your head uh from your quarterback or your head coach but you know it's at a certain point where that group needs to be uh continuously challenged to get better otherwise uh you you don't want to repeat performance of last year so I I would challenge anybody that has an issue with shador Sanders and what he said after the game to go watch that and try to pick apart different things that he said about the offensive line because there was just one quick comment in there but again you don't ever want to say anything negative about a teammate but uh honestly shador Sanders has bitten his tongue quite a bit the last couple years Adam as far as the on the field side of things I can continue to list off the controversy I'm sure you're you're sick of uh covering it and talking about it there is a big rivalry game this weekend with Colorado state that game is on CBS so what is fixable right now well I I will say this to start off Emily is that Colorado's not going to face an environment like they did last Saturday again in this season I have covered Colorado football for 21 years and I don't think I've seen an environment quite as electric as what Nebraska had last weekend in Lincoln you know Colorado had beaten Nebraska three in a row since they were last conference Rivals and this was the last game in the for the foreseeable future and so Nebraska couldn't have possibly been more motivated and you know that's a a good football team in Lincoln I I think they're going to do well in the Big 10 this year and it was also a bad matchup for Colorado uh we talk about Colorado's offensive line by being kind of the Achilles heel of this program since coach Prime took over and Nebraska's strength was on their defensive line especially on the interior of their defensive line and so it was a a test for that group and they failed it now they go to Fort Collins Against a Colorado State team that's had very extreme opponents they they go from playing Texas in week one to Northern Colorado an FCS program in week two so um they were I guess you could say very tested in week one but they didn't show much of a pulse they were uh shut out in that football game so this is an opportunity for Colorado to get back on track it's not going to be easy this is going to be a Ruckus atmosphere up at Colorado State they feel like they let one get away from them last year in Boulder so uh it should be an entertaining game but this might be the weakest opponent left on Colorado schedule so they've got to show up this week uh you hate to say must win in week three but it might just be that it's more of a mood must win for sure Adam thank you so much for breaking that all down for us you can check out more of his work at buffstampede.com Adam does a great job chronicling everything happening in and around the program will have boots on the ground coverage from this big matchup against Colorado State on CBS this Saturday big games mean big recruiting visits who is on campus and which games in week three have the biggest impact on the college football playoff we will tell you next welcome back in you're taking a look at Brad Crawford's updated playoff bracket and we got a big change from last week Georgia is now his top team over Ohio State also Iowa state is his big 12 champ instead of Utah Tennessee is up one spot plus USC and Texas state are in Notre Dame and Liberty are out I hope I got all of that Brad Crawford here now to explain his bracket we're going to go through some of the games of consequence and Brad we might as well start at the game of consequence tonight Arizona at Kansas State A ranked matchup in the Big 12 but technically this is not a conference game I want to be very specific about that it's going to take a while for me to explain why but ultimately how could the winner of this game affect how you view the Big 12 Conference race yeah this game was scheduled before Arizona joined the Big 12 so like you said since it's prior to it's not technically a conference game but it's still going to determine in my opinion the Top Dog in that League heading into league play a week from now you've got Noah ffid and Avery Johnson the quarterback at Arizona versus the signal caller for the Wildcats of Kansas State and it's two very good quarterbacks I mean excellent match up there at that position Arizona's won nine straight games dating back to last season and I'm a bit surprised here that Zona on the road is a underdog based on that winning streak K State had a close win last week against Tain I think that'll come in handy later this season but I'm looking forward to this game Friday night Arizona K State a very good ball game to start week three I have a feeling every week when we do this you're going to have a new Big 12 representative because that's just how fun the conference is this year so we'll see what happens tonight uh meanwhile the tide they're in as the e seed in your bracket and things got kind of squirly against USF at home I did not just look at the box score I did watch the game it was kind of scary so what do you want to see from Alabama on the road at Wisconsin Saturday I want to see if this SEC perceived Elite is actually Elite because the first two weeks of the Season yeah week one WKU 63-point win was nice but last week five-point game with five and a half minutes left can Bama go the road beat a decent Wisconsin team hasn't quite looked the part under Luke fickle just yet but this is a major opportunity for Wisconsin at Camp Randall Stadium jump around playing throughout the game this is a huge huge chance for Wisconsin to get a momentum building win but I don't I don't see it happening B's a team that right now I have in the playoff and it's a must-win for the Crimson Tide too you mentioned this SEC dominance six of the top seven teams in the AP poll belong to the SEC another one of that top six missou the number six team in the country there playing Boston College A ranked matchup but neither of these teams is in your playoff field right now so what could you potentially learn from this game that might influence your bracket going forward yeah I did not expect this game a couple weeks ago to be a top 25 match up I knew Missouri would be hanging around the top 10 like you said one of six SEC teams right now the top seven but BC is surprising unbeaten right now one at Florida State Thomas Castellanos very good dual threat quarterback and Missouri has not been tested yet on defense I think Boston College does do a pretty good job of that this weekend mou's going to probably win the game as a heavy favorite but this is a matchup that underrated a little bit lowkey one of the best games of week three all right you got a big one in the SEC LSU at South Carolina again in this situation neither team in your field so why do you pick this as a game of consequence as it pertains to the college football playoff yeah it's a huge game for both coaching staffs Brian Kelly he's going to get some jeers going back to Baton if he goes to Columbia and loses this game then you have Shane Beamer a win put South Carolina at 3 and0 top 25 for the first time since 2022 if the Gamecocks were able to upset LSU as a small home Underdog Dylan Stewart true freshman five star Edge for South Carolina's already got two and a half sacks four Force fumbles that's a great matchup against offensive tackle Will Campbell a future first rounder so LSU South Carolina right now is the game of the week in the SEC yeah if you like strong defensive line play uh this is the game for you what 10 sacks for South Carolina and LSU was given up zero so something's going to give on Saturday looking forward to that one I mentioned that Notre Dame is out of your projected field after losing to Northern Illinois in a buy game so how would you describe their playoff outlook how does it look right now yeah right now the Fighting Irish are on the bubble so they're they're an NCA tournament bubble team for me right now because Notre Dame can still make the playoff if the Irish win out that's 11 straight wins that or 10 straight wins they have to get and that comes against nationally ranked Louisville comes against USC at the end of the season so that's that's going to be some quality wins Georgia Tech throne in there too but I don't think anybody right now is picking Marcus Freeman and that team to win you know the next nine or 10 games what we saw against NIU is not going to cut it moving forward right now Notre Dame's a team on the outside looking in and Notre Dame would have to run the table and so far the longest win streak for Marcus Freeman is five St games there's a lot more than five games left in this very young season Brad Crawford thank you so much for joining us we do appreciate your Intel he's going to continually update his playoff bracket every single week so you can check out more of his work at 247sports.com and check back here for those week to week changes as I'm sure there will be plenty of them coming up we have more on the state of the Irish with our boots on the ground reporter in South Ben plus our resident FD that stands for football doctor is here to fix all your problems the 24/7 Sports college football show will be back after [Music] this it is notor Dame at Purdue at 3:30 on CBS we've welcomed in our Tim prer from Irish Illustrated to talk about the state of Notre Dame and let's start at the quarterback position what do you know about Riley Leonard's health status not just if he will go but what he will look like if he plays well nordam is not acknowledging an injury but the whole world saw it at the end of the first half against Northern Illinois he has a a left laum injury of course it's his non-throwing shoulder but uh an injury or a tear is is an injury or a tear and so he'll be dealing with that and but quite frankly he wasn't playing very good football prior to that and he certainly did not play quality football after that they they shut down his uh his portion of the running game in the second half which is another indication that he was dealing with an injury so uh you know they've looked at him this week I our sources tell us that Steve angelli the backup was given opportunities to work with the first unit I I until we hear otherwise the notion is that Riley Leonard will start this game and they'll go from there but if he's compromised in the running game that's a that's a significant part of his game he hasn't thrown the football very well so the Running part of it has been the the best aspect of it and so if that's curtailed like it was in the second half against Northern Illinois that will change what he's capable of doing and and perhaps turn their attention to Steve angelli all right we'll see what happens on Saturday but looking big picture Notre Dame has been through this under Marcus Freeman unfortunately so what is the mood around the program after suffering another inexplicable loss well anytime Nord Dame loses it's the the mood is awful but I think the bigger issue is yeah um you know the confidence of this football team Mike denrock the offensive coordinator said on Tuesday that he didn't think his offense went into the Northern Illinois game with a lot of confidence so I think more than anything you know this a football team that left they left College Station feeling very good about themselves and feeling like giant killers and could take on anything that came their way and then they were unprepared to play against Northern Illinois so I can't imagine you know as you get a feel for the pulse of the program here this week I can't imagine that this team's going to go to West Lafayette brimming with confidence there has to be doubt if there was doubt with the offense going into Northern Illinois there certainly is this week and and you know a little bit of Doubt with the defense because they did give up 190 yards rushing which is not Notre Dame's Mo on under El golden in in recent years and so there has to be concerns on both sides of the football so what is the biggest key for the Irish against Purdue you you talked about how it's that doubt that they're feeling right now but on the field what do they need to fix if they want to get this win well the defense should feel the best about itself because they know they're quality defense with a with a great uh defensive coordinator so first and foremost I think they have to go in there and exert their will upon uh Purdue's offense which which they're perfectly capable of doing on the offensive side of the ball you know Purdue head coach Ryan Walters he's going to want to be very aggressive up front they're going to test that young offensive line and so they have to hold up on the offensive line get the ball out if if not the downfield passing game which Riley Leonard has struggled with you know get the ball out to your white outs uh get back on the the the ground game with your two quality running backs and make make Purdue pay for Purdue is going to want to run a lot of press manto man coverage on the back end you have to make Purdue pay for that uh through the through the p passing game certainly but also in the running game as well they can do some things with bubble screens throw the football to Jeremiah Love who's excellent excellent in the passing game as well as a running game so there are there are alternatives there and there are paths there to success but it starts with their young offensive line holding up against what should be a fairly Blitz heavy Purdue approach against Notre Dame yeah you know that Ryan Walter's defense is going to make life difficult for whoever is under center for the Irish Tim thank you so much much for breaking that all down for us you can check out more of his work on Irish Illustrated for all things Notre Dame football Tim and the crew they have be covered on everything happening in and around the Fighting Irish program now Notre Dame is not the only team in crisis after a week two so let's hear from 247 sports team site reps from Michigan Florida State and NC State kicking it off with Brennan sonone from nolles 247 the big message this week for Florida State from Mike gell to his team has been cut it loose like just go have fun so much of the first two games of the Season we've seen just timid tepid play from from players that just it wasn't stuff that was showing up a ton uh in preseason camp it's been confusing again uh but you see to every single level defensive line linebackers secondary like Miss assignments guys trying to do too much guys overthinking same thing with the offensive side of the ball so going against Memphis they are a very good group of five team they have a really good quarterback in Seth henigan experienced obviously L Ryan silverfield and Mike norell go way back given that they were at Memphis together when Mike was the head coach and Ryan silverfield was supposed to come to Florida State to be his offensive line coach initially to before getting the Memphis head coaching offer uh but so what you're gonna have to do against Memphis if you're Florida state is like just establish the Run be physical think less I know that all sounds super simple easier said than done too but like that's the goal that's the task that's what Florida State needs to do and if you can do those things not only will you find a way to win U but you might start finding some confidence that's much needed as well moving forward Michigan is looking to rebound from blowout loss to Texas last week and head coach Sheron Moore said to Collective mindset within this program is one of urgency not panic the Wolverines were left kicking themselves for alitan mistakes that contributed to the lopsided outcome which put them in an early Crossroad searching for fixes heading into the final non-conference matchup against Arkansas State more HED at intensified competition and practice but don't look for major Personnel changes instead the word from inside is the Wolverines are looking to simplify to cut down on the persistent errors that contributed to last week's loss that's a major adjustment for a team that easily votes one of the most complex schemes in all of college football a team for instance that was said to have had over 30 coverage variations in the national championship game alone but with so many new faces on both sides of the ball both on and off the field Michigan is trimming his play sheet down in hopes of ramping its execution up the biggest story line for NC State against Louisiana Tech on Saturday afternoon is going to be whether or not Grayson McCall can truly bounce back in the first two games he do not looked like the Grayson McCall of old for NC State comes over as a three-time Sun Belt Player of the Year at Coastal Carolina and so far has thrown two one near pick six interception against Western Carolina and another one that was a pick six against Tennessee that was a back breaker in that game NC State also had two turnovers for Grayson McCall in week two against Tennessee so in order for NC State to truly look like the team that we expect them to be Grayson McCall has to be who we expect them to be in this game as well also that means that the offensive line has to be better that means the running game has to be better everything has to come together for NC State in this game against a Louisiana Tech team that does not look like a high quality opponent for NC State but they have to do everything right before they go into the ACC opener next week against Clemson thanks you all keep it locked into these great team sites all season long pack pride has you covered on NC State nolles 24/7 is the latest on Florida State and check out the Michigan Insider for all things it's going to shock you Michigan coming up how do you fix the one and one Auburn Tigers our expert he has the solution and we head to the biggest games of the weekend to find out which high-profile recruits are on campus that's all next [Music] the 247 sports college football show and welcome in to Tom ly our national recruiting analyst Tom we have critical games across the country this weekend but we are always here looking to the Future so you're here to tell us who was on campus from a recruiting standpoint let's start in Columbia when the Gamecocks host LSU this weekend who's on campus this is a big one obviously a a must-win in my opinion with the amount of talent that's going to be on the sideline against LSU but top 247 tight end Michael Skinner he's from South Carolina he's a class of 2025 Prospect that's been committed to Cincinnati since June but the problem for the Bearcats is that he picked up an offer a month later from South Carolina the home state favorite so many believe that was the offer he was waiting on um I think the Gamecocks could shake things up this weekend with a big big victory um he's surely on flip watch for the Gamecock and then the other one is top 100 Ed rusher Rodney Dunham from North Carolina this is an elite elite talent in the class of 2026 he's probably at least in my opinion the top pass rusher in the country in that class so this recruitment has a long way to go South Carolina's battling the likes to North Carolina Georgia Auburn and many others but this is a program changer potential type kid special special talent Gamecocks are all over him and just one more note South Carolina fans stay locked to the site on 24/7 ALS uh 24/7 Sports all weekend long because the visitor list is not completely up to date they are keeping a couple names under wrap so uh there's some big names that you'll probably find out on Saturday huge weekend for South Carolina yeah it seems like that visitor list has been clouded in mystery all week long I mean college game day is going to be there this is a massive game for South Carolina so how is their recruiting staff treating this you you you said that they have um been keeping some things under wrapped just how big a weekend is this for South Carolina they are trading it like it's by far the biggest weekend of the year I mean they are fired up very excited if you go to social media you'll see how much Buzz they're creating um I know that their director recruiting earlier this week Darren Usher he was kind of H tweeted on Monday about how big of a visit weekend it's going to be and then tweeted again today um that it's just gotten bigger so they are fired up this is a huge win I know Brad Crawford was already talking about it but I really do look at it as a must-win for South Carolina to really kind of keep things keep things flowing all right like you said keep it locked in to 247sports.com as that list continually changing uh the Gators meanwhile desperately needing a recruiting bump and uh a win would certainly help when they host Texas A&M on Saturday so Tom who's on campus there's a huge name on campus top 100 Eder Javon Hilson fresh off his decommitment from Florida State he'll be at Florida this weekend and uh Florida's battling Miami like I said Florida State and many others uh for the class of 2025 Pros this is a great opportunity for the for the Gator um they need a big splash and if they can show up on the field and potentially move the needle for a guy like jvon Hilson that is massive for them but sources maintain Texas is the school to watch out for right now they're going to be very tough to beat but Hilson luckily for Gator fans is that he's got a long way to go so he can take his time see how Florida does moving forward but he's going to take plenty of visits before the you know before his next process if you want to call it that comes to a close so he's going to be at Florida like I said Texas Georgia Alabama Texas A&M Michigan and I believe he's going to go get to Syracuse as well so this is massive for Florida they want to make a move here but again sources maintain that Texas is probably the team to beat right now moving ahead we got top 100 receiver sedarian Morgan out of Alabama one of the top prospects in the class of 2026 he made a Florida made a big impression when he visited over the summer or I'm sorry in the spring so there was kind of an eyeopener um the visit was better than expected but the guy to watch for sedarian Morgan is DJ lagway this is a guy that they could potentially play together at the next level so the more he gets on the field the brighter the future looks for Florida that's going to you know resonate with a guy like sedarian Morgan but sources maintain Auburn and Alabama are going to be very difficult to beat some even think it's going to be impossible for him to leave the state but two I'm watching Florida and then obviously Ohio State as a school I've talked about a ton with sedarian Morgan um it's essentially wide receiver youu so keep an eye on those four schools but again my crystal ball right now is on Alabama but I've been really tempted to kind of switch it to the Tigers so a lot a lot of time still to play out with that with that kid see Tom that's why we bring you on as everybody's saying Graham Merz or GJ lagway you're saying that there could be potential recruiting implications depending on how much DJ lagway plays if they want to land sedarian Morgan so that is an interesting storyline to pay attention to finally Wisconsin will host Alabama for the first time in nearly a century so who are the lucky recruits on campus to take it in this is probably a game I should have tried to make it my make my way to but top 247 running back Sean auson out of Ohio he's a top class of 2026 Prospect with over 20 offers to his name Wisconsin has definitely grabbed his attention it's probably not a school um that's talked about enough when it comes to Shan Austin so uh the Badgers offered back in March I believe and they've been pushing hard ever since running backs coach Devin Spalding has done a very very good job of connecting with Austin so they are one to watch and then another guy I want to mention is top 247 linebacker sincere Johnson another Ohio native this is a class of 2026 Target again that has offers from Notre Dame Texas A&M Florida State and many others but keep an eye on the Badgers here I think they're doing a really good job ever since offering back in April they definitely caught his eye this is a trip he's fired up about defensive coordinator Mike Trussell has them very much in the hunt sincere Johnson is a guy that can play linebacker potentially rush off the edge regardless Wisconsin just wants to land both of these guys and really make a move here so huge weekend in Mad Madison I'm excited to see what Wisconsin does I know that all the Wisconsin nights are very excited about hosting a BigTime opponent like Alabama so I have a feeling that they will put on a show for those recruits in town Tom I appreciate you thank you so much for coming on and coming up next some teams are not feeling well to start this season so we bring in our football doctor to diagnose the problem and prescribe a cure the 24/7 Sports college football show continues next as we hit week three of the season a few teams are feeling under the weather and thankfully though we have smoke FD our resident football doctor to find a diagnosis and hopefully prescribe something for it so let's bring him on smoke Dixon AKA smoke FD AKA former power conference general manager and someone who has been in these situations before and has been tasked with fixing problems let's start here Notre Dames college football playoff chances they're on life support doc what's the diagnosis well the diagnosis is that we've gone to two quarterback portals and we' selected the wrong ones last year we went with Sam dartman I mean Hartman failed at it now we have Riley Leonard in there that he's thr as many quart touchdowns as we have zero for the season and he's not playing up the par in terms of winning football for Notre Dame when you have a guy like that and you get him out of the portal what you want is when you go through a game against Northern Illinois his job is to end up winning that game with win like traits win like production not win because of whenn because he's the guy not the guy that's there just to hang around and be an operator not when you go on the border all right thankfully I am looking at the schedule uh that'll definitely help help ease the recovery process but what are you prescribing to Notre Dame well what I'm prescribing to him is that you get a guy in there that can help you now process all the information that you need to get a good quarterback moving forward because R lard is what you have when you're in the building you need proper Personnel to help you alleviate the stress of picking bad quarterbacks and bad backtack years because when you do that this is what you suffer you suffer from a losing season or not a season left up to your standard of the Dame or now you lose in a major upset of week two because you have not selected the right one so get you a good general manager get you a good Personnel guy in there that can help you evaluate and put your proper value on the quarterback to get the right one all right let's go now to Colorado off to a one and one start so give it to me straight what's their Outlook straight like this last year we listened to coach Prime sit there and talk about him going into the portal and getting the best offensive lineman to protect his assets and protect them in the run in the pass game but also establish a line of scrimmage in the Run game but now you look at this tape you see lack of production so you went out you hand selected the ones that you want in terms of getting the number one guy out in high school Jordan seon and get four guys out the portal that not shown you the ability to protect your quarterback or establish the line of scrimmage with Coach shermer's new offense now smoke uh smoke FD I can't guarantee that they will take whatever medicine that you suggest but what is the prescription for Colorado well since we're all in on the portal and we're all in on the quarterback and all in on the OC because he fired the last one last year coach Prime you got to ask coach Sherman to change the way that you're calling the offense you can't protect you can't establish the run that you want to so you have to now abort everything that you tried in the preseason and in Spring to come up with a new philosophy of playing winning football Alla go to screen games more often go to draws maybe you have to have some type of gimmick within your offense now and not run the old NFL offense that's not working in college and give the playmakers that you have on the outside an opportunity you just can't sit back there and burp the quarterback ball back there hoping that your offensive line that has not shown you the ability to protect can hold up right Dr Dixon Florida State 0 and two and no signs of life from their quarterback play I know they've been resting and Consulting with doctors for the last two weeks but in your expert opinion what's the issue well I got to go into real surgical Report with this one because they picked the wrong one they picked the wrong quarterback the quarterback that should have selected out of the Pack 12 was cam Ward now the guy that you wanted is down there in Miami showing everybody that he is the reason why Miami spent all that money in the portal to go get him you can't sit there and blame dju for being who he is dju is showing you that he's played the same way at Clemson Oregon State now he's playing the same way at Florida State so the real problem is you guys are paying the wrong players and now you've lost the locker room because back like when you're Pros when you pay the wrong free agent and they go into the locker room they're stinking a join up or not showing you the ability to win games and have high production everybody in the locker room starts talking and when the locker room starts talking they start losing the effect of what the leader head coach or position coach is saying because now you've lost trust so you paid the wrong one problem number one two three and four and five Talent acquisition it sounds like insurance is going to bog this situation down it's going to take a while to get the magic pill but I mean what are you prescribing for them to fix right now well Florida state has that recipe Emily you've seen him going to the portal before and out rich with names like Jared ver Braden Fisk Keon Coleman they've shown you that they have the proper process of doing that but what they have missed at is a quarterback so I would say just go back into your recipe mix that back up again and come back out next year and get ready to play because this year is what it is your roster is what it is and you can't change it anymore so the fix is next year live with what you got this year and hopefully you can get to eight games and go to a decent bowl game going to need to write some prescriptions for the fans too something for that nausea smoke uh Oregon is undefeated but they have had some near-death experiences as it pertains to their college football playoff goals you think that there's some sort of virus on the offensive line what's your opinion well yeah the virus is in the interior offensive line you've rotated four guys in there and you haven't found the right recipe so when you go out and you lose your Center and you lose your your quarterback which your starting NFL quarterback you're not gonna have that much success but when you go out and you come back and you bring in four guys and you're trying to get them to play together and you don't give them time to have cohesion have continuity you're going to struggle so my recipe for them in order to to fix this thing Emily I'm G jump right ahead of you is you got to find the FI f um the final three and let those final three play together so they can have continuity and they can build that rapport on protection because when you look in a run game you see a lot of leakage when you look in the pass protection Game Pass protection has a lot to do with communication and when you haven't communicated with each other over a long period of time what happens now is you start allowing simple twist games from the tackles and the ends simple Blitz that you should be picking up to seep down the middle of the of your offense which is the most important piece of your offense because your quarterback standing behind there and now you're playing off Rhythm a lot of the throws that the quarterback can make is not making them because he's being moved off his platform it's not always a pill to fix things as you said it could be some diet and exercise so that is the recipe for success for Oregon uh let's finish with auburn feeling a little queasy after that loss to Cal so what's the diagnosis doc the diagnosis is that it's simple this is the second staff that you had in four years so if you keep trading out your staff head coach to head coach to head coach you're going to have these problems your court your your offensive line is not good enough your receivers aren't good enough your tight end's not good enough because we all know once you lose a head coach everybody comes into your backyard and it starts portal shopping and ripping your team apart so when you lose good players you have to replace them with better players and that just takes time it takes time but is there any magic pill that they can take right now to fix this season well the magic pill is you can abort to St quarterback and go to Hank Brown and just see what he has for the future but the overall fix of it I think they're ahead of it they're doing well in recruiting they're showing you that they can win the state of Alabama and they have they're busting up my Crimson Tide right now with instate prospects and they're winning that one so with Coach freeze you just got to just give him time be patient and don't rush us again because we saw what happened when you do rush things you come up short you come up empty-handed and you got to start all over again it's one of those slow release medications but you say that they are on the right track smoke FD some tough pills to swallow for teams out there but we appreciate you diagnosing and prescribing the solution thank you so
