Trap: All Promise, No Delivery

it's time to sit back relax and enjoy trap trap is the latest film from M sham sham sham shal sh sh sh sh ShamWow sham sham shal Shazam M shalaman and I have a bit of a LoveHate relationship with M Night movies because every single time I see that an M Night shalam malam movie is coming out I get all excited I get giddy I want to be there I mean The Sixth Sense was incredible even the village a lot of people not the village but I loved it I loved that twist I was all excited for it that every time a movie comes out I get all giddy like a little school girl however knock at the cabin not a fan not a fan no twist no nothing it was just weird for the sake of being weird you over complicated oh the world's going to win unless you're all killing each other kind of thing just didn't make a lot of sense to me and I left a little bit disappointed just like how my dad is with me but nevertheless Here Comes trap and I forget all of a sudden I forget knock at the cabin I couldn't care less what happened in that film cuz all I remember unbreakable I remember the six cents I remember signs I remember the village and here I am giddy again going yes give me more M Night sh sh give me more M Night sh give me the sh so was trap going to be like one of those Classics that we love him for that we know m94 or is it going to be like knock at the cabin which is just going to be a bit of disappointment and a little blip on the resume that we'll forget about in about 5 years time I like the premise of trap it was very very clear that M might was inspired by what's going on with Taylor Swift and the swifties and the eras tour the chaotic heptic hysteria that surrounds her why not make a movie about it a movie involving a concert because that's what this is the Superstar in question is Lady Raven played by M Night shalam alam's daughter cika she's the one doing all the singing all the dancing it it basically is her concert and all the concert girls are losing their damn mind all the teenage girls with their parents are going insane for lady Raven and then it brings on our main character Josh Harner is back doing film after film I love seeing Josh hartner he's playing a character named Cooper who brings his daughter Riley along to the lady Raven concert played by Ariel Donahue and I thought she was great in fact looking at this film Ariel donu I think might be the best actor in this and I had a look at what movies she's been in hey not many but I'm excited to see what she does next I think she's got a great look her acting ability I thought was fantastic in this and I'm probably going to cop a lot for it but hey I think she was the standout performer in this film so the first 2third of this film as everyone's going along to see this lady Raven concert this gig at this massive Arena security up the Wazoo and it just feels like 9 shalaman put this on just so he can make a movie and showcase his daughter's ability to sing and dance and I don't really blame him i' do the same what parent wouldn't do that if they had the means to go hey look at my daughter look at my child they're better than all your children mine can sing and dance I'm going to make a $30 million film that's right $30 million film this one and showcase exactly what she can do it got to the point where I'm sitting back hoping I wouldn't mind the serial killer at this Stadium now try and kill lady Raven because this is getting a little ridiculous and nothing appears to be happening it just came across from M9 as a bit cheesy a bit desperate a bit hey look my daughter is talented believe me I'm not just making this up all those Christmas videos I film growing up she can sing and dance I'm telling you she can do it but baby shalaman it just wasn't doing it for me ight ramming her down our throats for the first two3 of the film not for me not for me Josh hard was an interesting choice for me because I do like him as an actor I really do in fact I had to look at some of the old films that he's done and I'm just thinking I haven't seen a lot of him lately but here he is doing his thing but then the first half of the movie it just felt like he was phoning it in he was robotic in nature he he wasn't delivering on his lines it's like he couldn't give two craps about what happened his interactions with other ushers concert guys and merch stand people just felt like they were forced it felt like he just wasn't interested in it at all and he didn't want to be there they really felt like unnecessary interactions you would have with an MPC you'd have someone just giving you way too much information you're just sitting back it's like yeah okay oh man it's like when your wife girlfriend tell you about their day at work and they're bitching about their friends and you're like damn that that's crazy yeah oh no no she didn't no she did not damn that girl that's what it felt like it just felt like there was no real emotion with anything Josh Harner did especially at the start of the film and then when you work out that well hold on he is the cold blooded serial killer of this movie not a spoiler they do it in the trailer not a spoiler start to question wait was that a choice of his to be like that for someone that doesn't know how to interact who is a bit socially awkward was that a choice from the actor from the director to say hey sit back and and be emotionless smile at certain awkward moments because you're trying to work out in your brain if that is an appropriate moment to smile or not or am I just giving him too much credit and Josh Harner really didn't want to be there for the first two-thirds of that film I don't know I don't know probably probably that one probably that one but the dialogue of the film was horrible it was horrendous it was like everything needed to be overexplained it's like the script was written by a 10-year-old and they're telling you about their day or they're asking you those questions like oh what's your favorite color what's your second favorite color what's your third favorite color it it's like giving way too much oh I was over at Brandon's house and then we ate some ice cream and then we ran outside and then we got tired and came in and ate some more ice cream and then I ran around around and then it just went on and on and that's kind of felt like how this one was it's like the guy selling merchandise at the stand was telling Josh haret who's the serial killer just all this information that he needs oh man when we go on a break we use this specific swipe car to get into this specific area to then go over to this area where we can do this that and the other and they've got cameras over here security over there SWAT over there like he's laid out everything it's like a bond villain from the early Bond films where it's like yeah I'm going to tell you exactly what we're going to do I'm going to tell you exactly how everything's going to happen and then you know exactly what's going to happen for the rest of the film oh the only way out is to prend Lady Raven and be escorted by her team into her limousine so what do you think's going to happen I just felt like everything was just spelled out too smoothly too easily especially when there wasn't any real clever twist or turn and I'm sitting there waiting for something to happen oh turns out the daughter is the serial killer that would have been something but no come on ight you coward make the kids the serial killer I love the premise for the film but it just seems there was no execution just seems there was no plan no follow through with it it was like we've come up with this brilliant idea how are we going to execute it now eh we'll work that out later we don't need to worry about right this second and even though nothing sort of happened it still felt like this film went a lot longer than it actually needed to be they probably could have got it all done and dusted in 70 minutes instead it goes for an hour and 40 and you're sitting there going cool hour 40 what happened 2/3 of we looking at ight sh's daughter singing on stage but that's about it the idea of a superstar like a Taylor Swift and her hysterical fans like swifties and something like this happening is a brilliant idea it is amazing it's like been given the golden ticket you've come up with the amazing idea lottery ticket now let's go cash it in and you lose the ticket along the way and then you asked at the counter oh what were your numbers and you're just making them up making them up hoping that somehow you'll get the lot again and get the cash you've been gifted something amazing with this idea M night shalam and you did nothing with it you made a horrible film horrible film so your daughter can then get the praise and sing on stage was it worth it was it worth it cuz this is another knock in the cabin kind of movie here this isn't the village or the six cent n uhuh unbreakable glass it's not one of those it's your knock at the cabin it's the movie The Devil remember the devil no one does do that even you not even sure if that was you the elevator one with the with the granny yeah that was horrible no one remembers that either I'm going to give trap a score of two out of five the real twist and surprise is that there's no twist and surprise trap is going to go in the disappointing column for sham sham Shamu films but I just know that I'm going to be there opening night to watch whatever he comes up with next
