Reacting To Lee Carsley's First England Squad!

England interim head coach Lee Cosley has named his 26-man Squad to face the Republic of Ireland and Finland and I wanted to re to this squad because it's a first Squad in the post gar Southgate era and often when a new manager comes in it often leads to a change of ideas and some fresh faces as well however I do want to C at that by saying I didn't think leardi would make actually make too many changes just because of the fact that he still got the job on an inm basis he didn't want to rub to people the wrong way and he might go safe but he's done the exact opposite and I wanted to react this squad anyway now I definitely had to and here are my thoughts on it and the biggest of all the headlines is that 23-year old midfielder fil Angel Gomez has found his way into the England squad and people are either really happy or have completely lost it on this selection what's my opinion on it I'm somewhere in the middle if I'm being honest I don't mind it whatsoever I think you know at the age of 23 he's come through the England youth setup he's played at man united he's now at Le as a regular starter in Liga I don't mind it because he's one where his trajectory was upwards anyway and he was probably going to get a looking at some point in the future but it's just kind of I think because the name is a complete left field however I don't know how much game time and what he's been having at Leo I don't know if he's quality enough to be playing I think he probably is based on the fact that he played 45 times for Leo last season SC two goals and 10 assist in all competitions he actually made 2585 minutes the fourth of any player in the Leo Squad um the only player three players ahead of him were the goalkeeper whose name I can't pronounce I'm not going to try and bother Leno who's obviously made a big summer move to Manchester United and Jonathan David the striker who plays up top for them so in that you can see that AEL G is a very important player for Le and if Lee Cari who's worked in previously at Youth Level think that he's a really good player and one that is capable and you know of the quality to be the sign Squad then who am I to complain I honestly think that this should be seen as a positive because I also think there are some players who often left and gone to other countries in Europe and played in other leagues often don't get a looking and I think this is a positive that you know we've got players young players who you know sending the right message to game time is important and that's something that leardi said as well so Angel G being in the squad I don't mind it whatsoever one of the biggest names that hasn't been included in this singland squad is actually Adam of chrisop pal midfielder and I think first of all credit to Adam in the fact that he's made such an impression on the English fan base as a whole since his moved from Blackman R to crash Palace in the GI transfer window that 9 months later we were like he himself is the biggest name to not be included everyone's claming for him to win the squad and the fact that he isn't it's credit to how well he's done up to this point I actually think that I personally would have included in this England squad I know in terms of playing for England he's only played what 30 minutes I think it was in the qualifiers for the not qual the friendlies for the Euro sorry against boson herzo was it the second half substitute and didn't get any minutes in the your whatsoever I would like to see him play because I think in terms of the looking at the defensive Midfield option I think you got Dean rice who's you know a shoe in we got maybe in the squad kobby Mayu who could probably deputize as a defensive midfielder as well but I think his position his best position probably a bit further forward in the center mve for position whereas I think Adam is an out that defensive midfielder who can you know replace de and rice if the need were to arise so I think from that perspective I'm a bit disappointed because there isn't an out andout defensive a longside rice and yeah I mean personally I would have like to see him play but if he's not going to get the minutes while he's playing for England in doing the inal break then if you can play with the under 21s and get some more you know International experience even though it's not at the senior level I don't mind that at all I do just think that you know we're going to come on to other positions but I do think we need to be planning for if one of the first team players is going to be unavailable through injury or suspension or for whatever reason that we do need to start prepping for you know we need to have a good backup and I think Adam won is a perfect defensive material cover for de rice so from that perspective I'm a bit disappointed and in my opinion I would have also included Adam W but credit to him that everyone's climing for him to be in the squad another point of contention is two other players who've been included in this England squad and that is Morgan Gibbs white and naughty madek and for both players I think you can you know map them out to be a very similar trajectory they both come through the England youth setups both work with Le cast as Le C has worked with a lot of these England players and you know they were playing so well for the club that they were eventually going to be getting into this England squad I think n MW and moram white are both very talented players both still very young and both still have high ceilings and can remarkably improve and I think with Mor SW he's probably more of an established and star at his Club in Nottingham far obviously they're lower down in the league table than Chelsea but I think that he definitely deserves a call up at some point and if he's giving it now I don't have any complaints about it whatsoever similar with n mad he's not quite that star on that Chelsea side that is undoubtedly Cole palmer but I think he's definitely been earning uh earning his stripes at Chelsea getting more minutes and you know after sat against wol Hampton wers on the weekend can anyone complain lei for including Squad in my opinion no one really can and so I the only question well the only point I want to put across is that I don't think that most a lot all of these 26 players are going to be playing um in the upcoming Nations League games because it is a big Squad and there are multiple players in multiple positions who are probably ahead of these players so for more games wide we got Phil Fen and Cole partman who about um in the squad announced as midfielders and so so I think both them are head of him in the attacking Midfield Department in terms of right wing as well you probably have Baya saaka and you probably have jar Bowen who or going start ah head of non medwick on that right hand side you could probably include Phil uh Cole Palmer and Phil f that as well so no problem with them being including in the squad are they even going to get onto the pitch I don't necessarily think so but in terms of experience and those players heading the right direction I've got no complaints one thing that I'm really looking forward to actually in the S Squad is that Trent Alexander Arnold has been named as a Defender thank God for that finally g s constantly using him as a midfielder and as we see with Tren talents for lip his best position is at right back when he's got the freedom to move up and down the right hand side maybe go stay out WI and then maybe inverted into the Midfield when the situation suits it and I think him being named as a Defender and leari actually saying in his interview when he did the squad announcement that Trend Alex will Mo midfielder I think is big big news and I think it's going to look really really good for England going forward because when you think about the other right back options kwalker is not included because man is still phasing him back from the Euro so he hasn't played any minutes which is understandable Ken Tripper has now retired from England Duty and you know credit to him because he's got a lot of stick but when he came on to do a job for England he never really disappoint and obviously H could get that forget that free kick did took for England you've also got ree James who's constantly injured and it's very unfortunate because you know if he could stay fit he would be in this singland squad and then you've also got the issue of Ben White who still unfortunately made himself unavailable for selection it is one where now that g sagate h and this is more importantly Steve Holland are no longer there I did expect benen white to make himself available but clearly there's something more um what that is no one really knows apart from Ben White and England set so fortun you got to respect his wishes but I would have loved to see Ben White play because I think you know I think he's in this England squad if you were to make himself available but that means that Trent Ric Lois and Tino liento so R leis absolutely I think this season is going to be very crucial for England and man city as well in the right back department is car Walker being phased out of that man city side and England is Rico Lois ready to step up to the mantle we seen in the first two games that Rico has done remarkably well and I expect him to play the third game and probably play most of the minutes in that game as well for Man City and I think you know livero is you know taking the job as right main right back for Newcastle United but the thing that's really interesting me about liendo is that he can also obviously play at left back as well but England have had a whole host of issues Luke Shaw still injured it's such a shame because undoubtedly he's one of one of the best labs in the world on this day I'll go far to say I think there a real lack of talent at left back at the moment but I think for England he does a fantastic job that no one else can do bencho well obviously is fit at the moment but just not being selected by Chelsea and looks like he's going to be heading out the door and zesa and so I think we do need more depth and more talented left back so lamento is definitely in my opinion going to be playing there as well as maybe Levi Cowell is going to maybe pose his left back cover maybe R leis can play there as well left back I'm a bit disappointed that Lei didn't select a left footed left back maybe the likes of God who's out there maybe Tyreek Mitchell at Chris Palace I maybe would have liked to seen him being included Squad I think good for a couple of Seasons now now playing left wing back as well in that chush Palace side alongs for manager Oliver glasner he's taking more of an attacking role so that would have be nice to see maybe a leis hole for nasle I think maybe potentially it's a bit too early for him but yeah definitely left fo the left back is what I would like to see but I think in terms of the center backs no issues Jon Stones EZ Rono Harry mcgu Mar lak Co I actually think that you know in my opinion it's probably going to be Jon stones and Mar I think Harry McGuire it's fine he's back in the squad he experience International 4 England and he's never let them down however I do think the marque's performan at the World Cup were exceptional to the point where he's arguably one of England's top three players at the Euro so for me it's John ston Mar absolutely at the back and then another play a lot of people had an issue with being in this England squad is Jack Gish has he earned his stri does he deserve to come back in the squad after being admitted at the euros and left wing just like left back is a bit of a funny situation for England at the moment because there's not really a stand up player in that position so there's a couple players fighting for it I was disappointed I think when G get left Jack really out of the Euro Squad because I thought to myself okay you're not taking an experienced left Winger because you're not taking marus rashford who doesn't deserve to be in the squad you're not taking Jack relish who doesn't deserve to be in the squad so what are your options who going to play there so you've got to take a leap of Fai with someone who's a little bit more experience gasa get obviously paid fail out in there and that turned out to be an absolute disaster as we all found out so at this time what I really want to see from Le Cosley is Anthony Gordon and he chz who I don't think is the best position is out on the left wing I think it's more in the middle but I think the way he'll play is he'll probably play take up the left wing position in defensive formations and then when they're going forward he's probably tucking a little bit more with an overlapping left back which is why it's so crucial we need a left foot a left back so I think I want to be uh I want Anthony Gordon or AB J to be given a proper chance to say this is my position I'm going to establish myself because AB J definitely did that I think in the friendlies for England in the build up to the Euros but then he wasn't given the opportunity in the actual themselves and G went with Phil feran so leardi just give I don't mind who it is just give one of them or maybe both both would be perfect give him the opportunity to shine in his England side and give the opportunity to nail down a starting spot on in the England side I think ja really is just because he's probably the most experienced and kind of maybe in form left Winger that's the only real um reason why I can see Jack Relish in this squad there may be some potential sh for Morgan Rogers I mean he really put his talents on display when he played against Arsenal on the weekend and I thought he's fantastic he might have got himself a shout because leardi was actually at that game but I got no issues with Gordon and as and Jack really just like I said fine he's probably not going to play too many minutes and then the other token point up front only Harry kanane and only Watkins I think that's fine Ivan Tony hasn't kicked the ball for brenford yet I think Dominic sank picked up a bit of a knock for totam hser so I'm perfectly fine with it just being Kane and Watkins I think you know they are comfortably England's number one and two at the moment other toking points goalkeepers Jordan Pigford undoubtedly England's number one Dean Henderson and Nick Pope has been picked as a two and three which order that's going to be we're yet to see I think the goalkeeper options especially two three are going to be ones which you're going to have to keep an eye on because obviously looks like R Rams are going to be getting a move to Southampton it looks like Sam Johnson is going to be getting a move to wolves so you're going to have all four of them playing consistent regular football hopefully if they stay in D fre and they selected first so you could have one where depending on the performances England could have five goalkeepers to choose from obviously pick for be doubt Le number one but two and three could be really interesting and that could be you know a bit of a battle that we got to keep an eye on going forward so I guess to finish off any notable absentees well obviously you got James Madison you not been included the squad that's may be a bit harsh but the same time I can understand it I would like to see I like to see James Madden really be the star man for Spurs because I think sometimes when he's on it he's fantastic he's probably one of spurs' top three players but when he's not on it he's ineffective and that's probably one of the worst you can say about number 10 and you've also got the likes of uh Adam who I mentioned Max kilman who doing a good job of West Ham I think woland would be screaming and saying you we all knew you doing a fantastic job for wolves why now since he moved to West Ham is he now being talked about being in the squad I think he's probably still got a little bit way to go L dunk not England squad was in the EUR Squad I think that's probably sensible I don't I think L dun's time at England now is probably done and coming to an end no lole no T Mitchell no ramale obviously J Bellingham is out injured I think for the most part that covers it um let me know what you guys think let me know are you happy with this singland squad who are you happy with being in the squad who are you not happy being in the squad would you likely Cosby to be the permanent England manager going forward and you know are you excited because I think coming into these games looking ahead to the World Cup in 2026 I'm excited about this future and I think you guys should be too
