let's now invite Lori Turnbull in the conversation political analyst joining us this evening Lori good evening and thank you for your time good evening thanks so much for having me can I just Begin by asking you the timing of this letter to jug meet Singh two weeks before the parliament is set to resume and just before the long weekend what do you make of the timing sure I mean I think POV wants to get a bit of a dig in on sing before they return to Parliament and also before the byelections happen which is actually on the same day because the IND p stand to do pretty well in these byelections the conservatives won the last one and too much fanfare right this was the moment where the Liberals went into panic mode because the conservatives managed to win that byelection in Toronto in that writing that was so safe for the Liberals for so long but the NDP now I think have an opportunity to show that they've still got like they've got some I don't want to say momentum because the polls indicate that they're actually not doing well nationally at all but they stand to get a win out of these byelections that are coming up so I think PV wants to say look um this as he said right sing is sing is a sellout sing is working with the Liberals if you're looking for somebody who's going to hold Dustin trudo to account vote for me don't vote for him so let's talk about now the ndp's response we have seen them respond this is of course NDP leader Peter Julian who is now saying that look leaving the deal is always on the table what do you make of that comment in the response that the NDP has to the conservatives I think they're trying to push back and say look this is not the the conser conservative Choice when we leave this this is always on the table as he says and I mean this is not a coalition government this is not um a formal or legal partnership this is a political partnership that is entirely transactional in my view and is probably going to continue until you know one of the parties decides that it's in their best interest to get out for political reasons so the NDP can make that choice as Peter Julian says any time they want I think they're probably trying to figure out when is that right moment for us to get out of this because they want to show voters we got something out of this we're not just propping up Trudeau for no reason but at the same time you know that we are our own team we have our own we have our own goals and we're not going to just be satisfied being the partner of the Liberals however informal that is okay so let's talk about the deal and the kind of work that the NDP has been able to get done with this Association Supply agreement with the Liberals we know that for example pharmacare Dental Care is some dental care they worked on pharmacare they're working on but let me ask you does this letter in any way you think put also pressure on the liberal party because we also heard Christia feland come out and you know say many things about this open letter I think the Liberals want to maintain control of the timing and they probably feel as though they've had that this whole time and I think they have I mean I think as soon as the Liberals and the NDP struck this deal which again is not a coalition it's a confidence and Supply agreement which says the NDP will support the Liberals on these issues provided that they're they're playing ball and what did the NDP he wants to do it seems to be the Liberals have have called the tune this whole time and I think Freeland wants to continue to do that and I completely understand why but from the ndp's perspective they want to say no no like we we we're deciding to and there's going to be like this this thing was always going to lead to some kind of a breakup moment and again the NDP wants to show they got something from it but they don't want people to think that this is all they've got to offer as being some some kind of Silent Partner or some kind of partner of the Liberals one last check with you about the kind of advantage that the conservatives hold right now over the Liberals where polling is concerned oh sure I mean they've now sustained quite a significant lead in in all regions of the country for a period of time and so there's this kind of sense that this is going to happen there's going to be you know there's there's a palpable sense that there will be a change in government whenever the election happens and so I think in some ways this messaging from PAB is trying to capitalize on that he's like he's pushing ing on sing saying you know like why are you continuing to support these people if you don't agree with with what they're doing knowing the whole time that the you know it what's on the horizon is likely to be a change in government unless all the polls are wrong which most people probably don't think is the case all right we leave it at that for now Lori Turnell political analyst appreciate you're joining us Lori thank you for your time thank you too take care
