Celebrating Jim Donovan: Legendary sports broadcaster Bob Costas pays tribute to Jimmy

Rolling. Ok, because Jim here is a blast from the past. Not only do you know him but all of America does too. Listen, Jim Donovan, I was gonna say it seems like only yesterday that we were rookies together at NBC, but that's not true. It seems like a very long time ago because it was more than 40 years ago. But since then, I guess we both did pretty well. And now I'm told after nearly 40 years at Wkyc, you're stepping aside with full honors and full appreciation. So congratulations on that. But here's what you might not know. Everyone's happy to know that you're gonna continue as the radio voice of the Browns. But check the fine print on the contract. You are not allowed to retire from that job until the day comes when the Browns win the Super Bowl. I know it's been since 1964 when they won a title of any kind, but that's the deal pal you're there until they win the Super Bowl. And by the way, the same thing goes for Tom Hamilton. I know it's been since 1948 but until Cleveland wins the World Series Tom Hamilton needs to take care of himself and be behind the mic when that glorious day finally comes. And only then can he ease into a comfortable retirement? Hosting Max Alves and sudden Sam mcdowell retrospectives and the same happy fate awaits you once the Browns win the Super Bowl, that's when you'll retire to MC tribute dinners to Ernest Byner and Bernie Cossar. Let's hope that day comes sooner rather than later in the meantime. Congrats on a great job at Wkyc and continued success with the Browns and looking forward to our paths crossing sometime soon. Take care, Jim. Wow. Amazing. Right. Great. Great guy. He really taught me a lot at NBC. Yeah, it was just, uh, he was always there anytime he had a question and I had questions. Uh, he was just, he was just phenomenal and, um, never forgets a name. He could walk in here, meet you tonight and come back in three months and say hi, Laura. How are you doing? I mean, you just, you're the same, you know, we both with pretty good memories.
