recruiting momentum continuing to pick up steam we'll give you an update on the surprise festar uh update that we had yesterday there's an update to the update so we'll give you that update and an update in a second um and then oh by the way thank God but again Texas V Colorado State tomorrow AIS against the Irish it's a big old full fun weekend and oh by the way Manchester United and my Liverpool play each other on Sunday it's a [ __ ] weekend people damn right damn right yeah there's a lot going on um we will get into the recruiting stuff and the very latest couple notes we need to it was happening we were doing the recruiting show on Wednesday here on orange Bloods live grand opening was this week it is Texas card house social and they're cranking up all kinds of stuff catch more games more tournaments uh an executive chef I mean they're going they're going all out out at Texas card house the new title sponsor of House Divided look at us moving on up to East Side uh we finally got a piece of the P um yeah I look I'm I'm I feel like those old commercials where it's like I'm not just I don't just speak of Texas card house but I'm a user of the product uh I'm a little depressed that I still have covid um and like I still feel like I have Co it's not knew of all the things I knew you'd be pissed about this week I knew you'd be pissed because uh we had to reschedule our OB event at taste on Maine I know that pissed you off but I knew that when you could not go because as soon as we heard about everything was coming together and they were doing the grand opening you were throwing message in our messages in our chat like oh I might be able to get over there for day one I'm might and as soon as I heard you had Co I thought oh my God that's going to break his heart more than anything else and even tonight I you know I'd be quite the social scumbag to show up at the spring location and a give everybody um at the spring lo location my my co germs uh and then B pass out and sleep at the table so uh it's a little depressing but look I'm gonna I'm going to get by because we've got college football um let's talk a little bit of recruiting before we get into Texas and Colorado State um Jamie French committing to Texas today not a surprise I mean we've been talking about it all week we've been talking about it for weeks Jamie French is a guy that's been talked about all summer Chad he's a little bit like khik Lockett in that first time every time you watch his film it feels like you've watched it again for the first time it is a breathtak football player uh he's every bit the five star that his ranking is I think one of the things that I really like about him the most and I wrote about this in my instant analysis piece over at Orange blaz this morning at about 4:30 uh because you know when you can't sleep because of covid work um this is a guy that loves to compete he's gone to One National event after another that includes the Rivals Camp that me and sucel and Cody carpenter were at uh in Jacksonville back in June and he just shows up at these things and has the attitude of any of you guys that want a piece of me come get some and then he dominates and performs at a level that makes you think this guy's gonna be an incredible college football player uh and maybe a very high NFL draft pick one day I I just think the world of uh of French as a talent and it's a big toy that might help Define Arch Manning's college career over the course 2025 and 2026 I mean it's a big deal yeah Matt jumped in uh right as you were finishing up there Arch GNA be heavily armed and dangerous with all those weapons on the field you've been talking about it catch when we discuss certain guys like anybody that's going to be on the Texas team in and 26 theoretically we'll get to say yeah I'm gonna play with Arch Manning but the receivers that get to say they play with Arch Manning because it's one thing if you're a badass linebacker or D tackle or whatever even offensive lineman but catch if I'm a receiver I know I get to be in the highlights with Arch Manning and obviously help him do whatever he's gonna do so that's a big deal and Lockett and French with him plus the guys that'll already be experienced coming back next year that feels pretty impressive well that's four five-star players that will be will unless somebody TR unless Jon cook or Ryan Wingo transfer in Arch Manning's scheduled first season as a starter next year for the Longhorns in addition everybody else he'll have four five-star wide receivers to throw the ball to uh it's funny because I remember last year there were people who were asking where's the arch Manning effect on the recruiting class why are we not you know the year after Chris Sims committed to Texas in 1999 that was the year in 2000 that Roy Williams and BJ Johnson and Sloan Thomas and chance Mo um and chance every once in a while has to ask himself what was I thinking I'm just gonna go in behind Chris Sims um that you know that didn't happen a year ago they did get Ryan Wingo but it kind of felt like for a while that the wide receiver recruiting was a bit sketchy it's a little funny to think about that now be and you know Chris Jackson we talked about how important khik Lockett was to Chris Jackson now Chris Jackson can say look man two five stars in one class um quite uh the additions that you know you look at Lockett and French together it's not the best one two wide receiver punch in a recruiting class that the Longhorns have ever had that's got to be Roy Williams and BJ Johnson still all these years later um but it's close and you know I talked about this on a show that'll come out a little bit later on today but I think if you're a Texas Fan one of the things about today from 30,000 feet up forget about for a second what this means for Arch Manning and you get a badass talent that could be a Sunday football player a month ago Texas Sly didn't have a lot of momentum in recruiting and everybody was asking like what what the hell right no Doria Moore no no Riley Petty Johan what what's going on I thought this was going to be a badass recruiting class and it feels like all of the topend state guys you know all of these narratives that existed and we had you know we did shows where this we my sour saying that behind the scenes Texas feels very very confident one of the things I've been thinking about a lot today is you know if this run that Texas has now officially gone on in August hadn't gone down if Jonah Williams goes to LSU or A&M and khik Lockett goes somewhere else Michael fusi goes somewhere else and then today Jamie French announces for either Miami or LSU my my ass would have been grass but most important look I can live with that I I you know if if it was if if if it wasn't gonna this wasn't gonna happen people just say 85% right like they we've got some tried andrue if I want a bus catches balls that we'll we'll reference some 10-year-old Kyler Murray recruiting uh story and like we'll we'll get our jollies the important thing and some because somebody on Twitter today said you were right catch and I was like no this is where you're wrong this is the key piece I think that if I'm a Texas football fan I really pay attention to today wouldn't be catch was wrong it wasn't a subjective thought when we talked about confidence was very very high this wasn't my opinion based on what I thought was going to happen it was the vibe and the opin and kind of the position behind the scenes in the Texas football program what's really important is that they've gone on the run that they've expected to go on what it means not that I was right it means that behind the scenes the co the coaches the people who were involved in recruiting Brandon Harris nil people everything everything that's the whole s the whole ecosystem knew what they were talking about they knew they had the right read on the pulse of recruiting and I had mentioned a week ago before Jonah Williams committed that I had a sour say look if we we being Texas Miss on Jonah Williams then we just don't know what we're talking about what we're thinking what we're doing we're getting it all wrong and now we're at the end of the month and it's like oh they they were right and because if you think about the last month khik Lockett they flipped Josiah Sharma they get Jonah Williams they get Nick Brooks now they've got Jamie French the feeling is they're gonna get Michael Terry one of the things that I mentioned when I said they were feeling very very confident behind the scenes is they had a feeling that when they get to the portal in December they feel like they're going to do some damage there so what's happened over the last month can make you go oh that whole portal stuff in December that's not just loose talk that's something to be really excited and positive about so I emerge from a big picture thinking with regards to Texas recruiting is it it's one thing to say that everything's okay with Texas recruiting and they're on their way to maybe a top five recruiting class but there was some weirdly there was some credibility that was on the line for it was like what have you done for me lately yes top five class this and top five class that and Arch Manning that what are you doing this year and I think that while ultimately the way this recruiting class looks isn't what we thought it might have looked like in June 1 of June we would have said oh they're gonna have a few five stars huh well Dorian Moore Michael fusi Riley petton have some of that and in the end Jonah Williams where'd that come from Jamie French a even I was like I don't know if that's gonna happen that kid could do anything um you get Nick Brooks and you thought he was gonna go to Georgia in the end this has been a really squirly summer but as the summer gets ready to end and football season begins tomorrow Texas fans can chill the hell out everything is the way hoped it would be even if it looks in the makeup of it probably a lot different than they thought all right we got a Super Chat catch you inspired Google know I think the 1300 yards and 11 touchdowns things can happen I'm not so sure the five intercept if he gets five picks maybe um it's an award that usually goes to the best quarterback on the best team or an award that just goes to the best quarterback yeah um I was going to say catch we've seen circumstances where you can have two maybe even three losses and be the Heisman winner but you've had to be Ricky Williams Johnny Manzel RG3 like that's the kind of guy you got to be and that's got to be in a year where the team that goes on to win The Natty isn't doesn't have some featured obvious guy Colorado could be a five seven football i i i i halfway joked but was halfway serious last night when I tweeted is this going to be Colorado's best win of the season right yeah because say what because last year it was about could they get by what get by the style of the Pack 12 and some of those substance and teams there's a lot of substance that's going to hit him in the face this year in the Big 12 they play Kate but none of those games are like signature games it's not like Hunter has a big game against Kansas State the country is going to go oh wow I think but what I meant what I meant by the substance part is I think Kate can finish what North Dakota State started no doubt you know what I mean yeah um all right let's do the five star update update because I because what happened yesterday we gave the five star update before there was a festar update to the update and people couldn't get enough updates it was all day long it was like what's the up update and even when I left you were having to provide update so yesterday we were we were talking about what originally started with a 247 report that five-star linebacker Nathaniel auu boang how about that well done hey I'm stop the show now screw you co screw you co well done uh he out of the IMG Academy down in Florida he mentioned in an article that he was going to take an official visit to Texas during the week of the Georgia game um a there's kind of like a multifaceted update here it's updates and updates and updates try updates um we confirmed through auu boang I think this morning sukel got a hold of him uh that he absolutely is taking the official V yes Darwin um anytime I can Channel my inner Eddie Murphy Raw I will absolutely do it very good that's a subtle woo people people normally think of flare you went with the Eddie Murphy Raw I can see him in the purple well done um [Laughter] half um he is Gonna Take That official visit and we we just both Jason and I were both digging around on this yesterday I was talking to a source yesterday um on the national side you know his older brother plays at Notre Dame or played at Notre Dame and all year long there's been a sense he's gonna go to Notre Dame and if he's not gonna go to Notre Dame he's gonna go to Michigan he's kind of a Midwest guy hence even though he's playing his high school ball he's going to IMG down Florida he's not really like an SEC guy but there may be a sense that one of the reasons why he hasn't committed to Notre Dame is because Notre Dame hasn't he he may want a big nil deal I'm not saying he definitely wants an nil deal and that he's Brandon Baker all over again where it's like well look man I love me some Notre Dame but half give me half the national debt and I'll show up at your school it may not necessarily go to the nil deal but there's a sense that it could that there's a reason why he hasn't committed to Notre Dame yet he could have committed to Notre Dame at any point and everybody would have just gone makes total sense but it hasn't happened yet and now you've got people who are ve very closely covering his recruitment who know him well who think you know what there actually is a door that's a jar that we might have thought two months ago that this kid was definitely going to Notre Dame but he hadn't committed there yet and now he scheduled this visit to Texas and I talked to multiple people yesterday who know a Wu boang personally who who talk with him on the regular uh who think Texas has a George Foreman versus Michael Moore's punchers punchers chance of of making this happen blow him away at the visit kickass nil deal and the thing is I think if auu boang had gotten the Doran Moore or Michael fusi package from Notre Dame he'd already be committed there based on the conversations I had yesterday but I don't think he's got that kind of an offer yet Notre Dame's got a good nil program but it's not great Michigan's okay in nil but it's not great what you don't see on his list of favorites is a smattering of SEC teams that all have great nil programs right it's like oh he's got Tennessee listed and he's got Old Miss listed and he's got there he's there's not even a weird Ohio State in there which you'd go oh well Ohio State I think Texas actually considering this has kind of come out of nowhere that he really kind of kickstarted the conversation with the Texas coaches recently the the discussion of the visit for that weekend fairly recent his going on the record to talk about it as recent as this week I keep an eye on that one because if you're Texas the thing that my sourcing and we've been reporting on this since June so this isn't like some revisionist history because they missed on guys we were reporting since June Texas's whole plan was to wait until the later months of the recruiting process before nil became a big deal and and to that point surprisingly the the report I got on Jamie French is that that was not Texas still hasn't delivered the niil super punch package to French he he hasn't been given the full Spiel whoa what happened to Chad did we lose him I'll just keep going uh it was kind of weird um so French commits and he hasn't they didn't do like a big nil thing for him that I'm aware of I think he knows he's gonna get taken care of in nil but he didn't get there you go Chad he didn't get the super package I think that when we get to October when really mid to late October when when boang would uh I guess when it's a hyphenated name you got to say B we just call him woo right woo woo I think is uh that's what I saw in the highlights yesterday just W so yeah you either gotta go than it's a lot of you know auu boang is there's just a lot of syllables there yeah but I think I think Texas is in a better shape than even I thought yesterday the more I dig on that the more you hear good things and I think he'll be visiting at exactly the right time when Texas actually wants to start doing its nil stuff so don't look at that and think that well like what is a George Foreman's Michael Moore puncher chance that was a huge I guess that was a huge upset but like if I said that kid was going to Texas on Tuesday people would have said well that's a huge upset because everybody's assuming that he's going to go to Notre Dame but you know all these years later it's like well should we have really been surprised at Foreman beat Michael Moore like how how good was Michael Moore all these years removed it's not like we're singing songs about how good Michael Moore was back in the day and I wonder if this is just the right competition for Texas that if this was Ohio State and Georgia and Tennessee and they had already their vice grips into this kid maybe it's too much to overcome I'm not convinced of that after the conversations I had this yesterday uh even with Co brain getting my getting my work on uh and if you read the War Room you would on orange Bloods you would have in this instance you know there's there's not a well he ended up at Oklahoma or he ended up at A&M or he even ended up at Georgia or Alabama and this instance it feels like if the L whichever guy you lose probably goes to the Midwest so I don't know Bea's in the eye of the beholder I'd probably take pettan for the reason that I listed but um you know that guy's a festar for a reason um and I think he's like a consensus everybody has him ranked as a five star I haven't looked at the industry rankings on him I don't think everybody has Petty John as a five star so maybe maybe slightly but I love your nickname becomes spam oh you're going to hell for laughing Chad you're going to hell for laughing uh was it good did they at least fry it up like they should yeah well when you're nine you you you'll eat anything dude my granddad used to fry up spam and eggs and oh man it was good dip it in some ketchup and it tastes like a hot dog I had no problem but we knew that it was for poor people even though we were all poor about to say how dare you this was like poor people making fun of the poorest person uh we were really messed up thank God I moved out of Waco I think I'd be in prison or at at the very least a horrible human being uh I got the hell out of Waco and then like I stopped doing things like making fun of kids in the fourth grade because they had spam for their birthday you know what I am not gonna make fun of that kid just like I would never make fun of somebody that had boxed wine and a keg at their wedding what so there's there's no way I will make fun of somebody who you ready yes they need some help 999 from Brad can you shed light on how a school offers an nil package do they tell the funds where to allocate Sark says Hey Texas one paid this dude seems blurry well Brad it is blurry and I'll be honest I don't know if you're supposed to know I'm going to do my best to tell you but I don't think it's a system that's designed for transparency at this point you know o Ohio State's been going around bragging that they've got like a $20 million program and I had people this week tell me you know even at Ohio State where everybody knows okay they're a bit of an niio Powerhouse right now there's a sense that it didn't all happen on the up and up um that you know they live in the gray and there's some sketchy stuff going on there and they're you know like Texas at the top of the food chain um it's different with every guy and it's different with every guy depending on the state that they live in you know a year ago they could flat out have transparent conversations with Brandon Baker and he lives in California they can openly have those discussions we talked about Ryan Wingo last year you know in the state of Missouri had he committed to Missouri he could have started collecting nil money immediately like in August of last year while he was in high school not if he commits to any it was there's some weird stuff that makes it so it's like well how does it work shed some light on it well oh it's where the Cockroaches live how am I supposed to shine light on it um generally speaking like how I I I in a case of a guy like Brandon Baker I think that they're able to say look this is this is the amount of money that you can make in nil it's a whatever that number is it's up to the school to and the collectives uh to to put something in paper and then you know they you can't you typically let's say if a kids from the state of Texas they don't start collecting nil money until they show up on campus now again if Ryan Wingo had wanted to stay in state and go to Missouri completely different it's it is literally different with every kid Jamie French is in Florida I don't even know the nil rules in Florida right I'm I'm try to keep up with all of the various States and they're all different um typically these guys start collecting [Music] um when they arrive in campus so it's like this past month August would be a big month a lot of guys were getting nil money because it's almost like a remember when the Pancake Factory existed it was like well if you're on the roster at the beginning of the Season you'll get $50,000 that doesn't exist the way that it did like I think Pancake Factory is just dead but for a lot of guys they get their payments in August um contract get drawn up the school has to find either through corporate Partnerships which think about Kelvin Banks a year ago Kelvin Banks probably making like mid the high six figures you know nobody at Texas I'm aware of is really getting more than 750 is a year 700 a year almost Banks has probably got to be at that high end um you know Mack stepped up last year and kind of took on Kelvin Banks and Kelvin Banks I can drive down I45 towards Huntsville and I'll see Kelvin Banks Billboards advertising mattress Mac um so sometimes it's that way every kid's paid a different way but they all have contracts and the contracts say how much they're going to get paid and it's up to the schools and the collectives to honor those contracts on time and so when we say things like some schools are kind of nil frauds what's happening and what's getting schools in trouble and I don't know that necessarily this is what happened at A&M when we were talking a couple of years ago it's totally different now in the sense that almost everybody's organized better organized now Chad than they were like two years ago when it was so in its infancy that I think little things like not paying guys could probably more easily happen but so what happens is school a will say look we'll give you a million dollar and they'll put it on paper but then they're overselling they're telling that guy you're going to get money and they don't have actual plans in place for how they're going to pay for it so it's like putting something on credit yeah yeah yeah yeah we you're going to get seven figures and we're even going to put it in a contract but the schools don't the collectives don't have the money yet so they're promising something that they don't have well what so what are they banking on well they're banking on that people are eventually going to give the money think about Texas a year ago what did they think would happen well if Texas gets to the playoff there will be a surge in nil that that's the thing that was needed to boost nil to the Moon Alice and instead it didn't quite happen but what Texas didn't do is go hey we're in the playoffs now I think let's just say we got an extra 10 mil we can play with you do that and some schools are a lot of schools are they're putting it on credit and they're assuming in 12 months from now they'll be able to pay that thing before the interest rates kick in it's that whole like 12 months interest free and it's sounds good at the time and then 12 months comes by and it's like hey have we made a payment on that thousand couch yet when did we get that it was like oh 14 months ago do we have a statement how much does it say we owe $3,700 oh God I should have paid the couch off um yeah I got my wife some jewelry for Christmas remind me to pay that bad boy off before I want to do that so this is kind of how it happens the school the the schools will say and every school's different right every school's got somebody who's different in charge and it's it's hard to say there's a single exact process but ultimately verbal commitments are made eventually contracts are put together I think when we hear that like there's some speculation that there are kids in this this recruiting class that are going to change their commitments in part because they're going to find out that there's some funny business going on in the world of this nil stuff it's not so much that their payments won't clear it's that between now and December there's a sense that we're going to start hearing either very publicly depending on the school like look if Texas somehow missed an nil payment let's say jont T Cook went to ESPN and said I'm entering the portal because I didn't get what was promised to me in nil that's making sports center now if Baylor does it it's probably not making sports center but it's gonna get a headline somebody's gonna talk about it it's going to be talked about behind the scenes don't go there because they were supposed to pay so and so $100,000 on September 1st and like he didn't get it into even if he gets it but he doesn't get it until December it's like oh that school's broke that school doesn't have its stuff together there's a real sense that in the next couple of months there are going to be some alleged nil powerhouses that are found to be fraudulent and if that happens the repercussions for what would it mean for Ohio State what would it mean for an Ohio State recruiting class if word got out that like Five Guys didn't get paid a total of a half million dollars because they didn't have the money in the nil it would make every single one of those guys go whoa if they can't pay those guys how are they gonna pay me and I think there's going to be a lot of those situations the perspective is behind the scenes that we most likely will see a lot of that now how much how public will that get I don't know again if it was Texas it feels like that would be a big headline if it's Ohio State it feels like that would be a big headline if it were Florida state is it a huge headline maybe not but I think it probably still a headline but pay attention to recruiting classes if you start seeing one two three four guys depart within a week two weeks a month and it's like hey what happened Notre D's recruiting class like it looked like it was going to be really good and then they just started dropping guys I think you might know the answer without even having to of Fantasy Island the loveboat or TJ hooker how is that possible never seen one episode my great-grandmother used to say shitfire we watch TJ hooker like it was going out of style and technically it probably was by the way going out of style kind of an old manism as well a little bit going out of style yeah you're almost there but uh I vaguely remember some Fantasy Island the plane the plane like really into these shows either but I did not grow up watching cop shows medical shows or lawyer shows so if those if a show was based around any of those three things I probably didn't see it Dukes of Hazard though Dukes of Hazard is not a cop show no I'm I'm I'm getting a feel for your TV viewing asard I watch religiously no cops no lawyers no doctors right rednecks in a car very walks of hatchies
