the noon hour is here Che it out and you're locked on to Utah's highest rated most listened to sports radio station it's my station it's my station this is H sson and Scotty G on 975 the KSL Sports Zone and Scotty 975 the KSL Sports Zone hands how cool is this man we are out and about today I it's great it's great to be here in Macy's great to be in Logan and it's great to have this young man next to us the legend of Lehi the maker of all things Logan they call him the Macy's Maniac the Eater of all things soft serve how much barbecue have you putting down T too much too much much anchoring that Utah State offensive line Teague Anderson hanging out with us and uh you and Teague have you uh I mean look you've known him since he's just a baby right oh yeah oh yeah I've known T his entire life yep his dad and I played a BYU together Teague Anderson by the way Trey Anderson is brother on that same team they do a heck of a job and came out of the same school that my son's in teague's dad is my son's offensive line coach and Teague is up here with Utah State just killing it up front how's the year going so far for you bud I feel like it's going really well for us we've really just battled through our our games and just the adversity that we've had to go through I feel like our team's really gotten super super close through everything that we've gone through and we just got to look forward see what we got next when you uh when you suffer a loss like you did against UFC sometimes you can go one or two ways as a locker room uh but being around the guys I did the coaching show last night so I was around Clyde I was around Wyatt bus from that offensive line as well and I mean it seemed like Spirits are really high right going into this Utah game yeah I feel like since we've gone through so much through that big loss against USC I feel like we've just really come together as a as a whole team and I mean we've had to do it multiple times through the loss of Coach a and through the loss of one of our teammates and stuff I feel like we've gone through so much that it's just really easy to come back together you guys have been through it man this last year has been uh it's like what now what what else are we going to have to go through yep how how has that been for you guys um it's definitely been a struggle I've definitely I've never seen such hard times on a football team especially with like I mean I knew a lot of the guys didn't really know our teammate that we lost but just seeing our teammates that really knew him well have to fight through a loss was was really hard and just seeing our team collectively come together and really battle and just put our heads down and grind has been really really inspirational well Scotty we got some some giveaways today yes we do we're live here at Macy's in Providence uh just little south of Logan so all you have to do is come on by and you my friend have hidden a mystery box somewhere here in the store yes sir what's in that bad boy um just a it's a little goodie bag with some gift cards and some stuff that you can find at Macy's I I will say this the I wasn't told exactly what was in it but the the gift cards are going to make make it worth your while y so there are gift cards in there there's some sizable gift cards in there really and it's hidden somewhere in here it's hidden somewhere in this Macy store and you hit it yourself correct yes sir okay now my guyue here my guess is it's probably somewhere over by the barbecue it's probably somewhere over by the meatballs and the and the ribs and the brisket I don't know don't give any tips so what Scotty so people just come down and they just search up and down the aisles for it is that how they is that how they get the box I well wherever yeah you just come on in here and you start searching the store and wherever teag hand hid that thing it's like that guy who put like a million dooll chest in the woods somewhere just you got to go find it and and I will say this like we'll bring Teague back on does it every year maybe around like 12:30 or 12:45 around there and if somebody hasn't got it then we'll let you give them a clue awesome oh is that how it is yeah okay so kind of he's going to be our door this but I want somebody to come in here and snag it before then you'll be a door I'll be boots got to be the map I'll be the map and and we'll help people you don't even know who Dora is do you I do know who D is I thought maybe you were too young for Dora I thought that might have gone back before your time but we'll we'll help you with the map we're going to find this chest this war chest and were there tickets did I see any we will be giving away Utah Utah State tickets too so how you win those there's a lot of stuff today okay so not only do we have the Teague Anderson War chest with gift cards we also have tickets that we're giv away for this game it's sold out the place is going to be rocking and if you want tickets you come by and you say hi to Sean and you're going to take a picture of his QR code that's going to enter you in to win the tickets to the game oh okay so all you got to do is just QR code it QR code it and you're off and running but we are giving away the pair today today so essentially it's it's three hours of an opportunity to fill out okay so far there has not been an entry so right now you got 100% chance of winning correct and I also want to mention we're in Providence we're not in Logan which means from Salt Lake City that's going to save you upwards of 5 to 8 minutes yes if you're driving from Salt Lake City you don't have to drive all the way into Logan and considering the Main Street traffic that that's going to save you a ton of time a ton of time so just coming to Providence by the way Providence is uh this my jam this is where Ryan just moved to oh really yeah okay yeah my brother here well that's where that's where the rich people live in cash Valley's Pro I don't want to hear it dude I don't know the rich people live in Bountiful we've already gone over this no I'm talking Cash Valley oh okay is it really yeah yeah Providence or Paradise yep Paradise is just a little further south is Paradise known as ritzy cuz Paradise used to be Pure Country that used to just be Catal oh it's and then North Logan people have started to uh infiltrate North Logan a little bit okay no well get down you got tickets the war chest you got all kinds of stuff come see us in Providence and te's hanging out with us too get picture taken with Teague get uh talk to him about the game coming up on Saturday we're going to have a good time appreciate you hanging out than we'll talk to you in a minute te Anderson right here on 975 the ekl Sports Zone as we continue to get you ready for another weekend of college football but I tell you what the landscape of College athletics took another turn last night as joining us from CBS Sports Dennis Dodd kind enough to carve out a few moments for us some more realignment as the pack two snag four teams from the Mountain West Dennis did you see this one coming um it's been talked about since um you know really this started with the Pack 12 because Oregon State and Washington state had you know what was left of the league and it in fact I'd written a story in August of 23 saying San Diego State had initiated you know did exactly what we're talking about they denied it I know it was true because their president was on the conference call so they just got to a point where you know I think in the cover in under the cover of night it had been talked about but when it actually happened it it caught people in the Mountain West a bit flat footed including their commissioner unbelievable it's unbelievable that people could be caught flat footed with anything after what USC the Pack 12 you You' think everybody' have their head on a swivel so does this just now come down to the pack two using that big old chunk of money to help with buyouts are they telling boisey State and these other Mount West teams that they're going to pay for their their potential penalties yeah I think that's the way it looks they've got that war chest if you will of$ 250 million doll in reserves and payouts from the Pack 12 and according to my back of the cocktail napkin math it would take uh about 113 million of that to pay the buyouts of those four schools now that I don't think they're going to stop there because I think it's going to be kind of wonky with eight schools especially if you have seven conference games in round robin then you got to go out and find five more non-conference that's going to be really hard um and content is King when they do their TV deal so I think they'll end up with with 10 or 12 but yeah that that's what that money's going to be used for so you don't think they stop at eight you think they go further I don't just because of what I just said I think the eight is a little bit in congruent um with 10 you could go you could still go with seven conference games and only have to fill three non-conference games in other words the more conference games you have the more value to to your TV deal you know people have wondered for years and there's still a big you know talk about it in the SEC why they don't go to a ninth conference game well the answer to that is they've won 13 of the last 17 national championships you know that that those eight conference games is not denied anybody a chance so um but I I think it is and I you know I think they they'd be the smallest FBS conference at eight teams um depending on who they get they could get a little more money I mean you you hear about Air Force you hear about Memphis um I don't think the TV deal is going to be much more than the Mountain West gets now just because look uh the N is not NASCAR NBA deal just got done there's just not that much money in the universe right now to pay for these type of things and I think there is some fatigue on the part of the networks I mean they all know this is coming something like this may be coming but it's not content you have to have they can name it the Pack 12 after dark but Fresno State and Colorado State isn't going to be the same as Arizona UCLA after dark so Dennis you kind of mentioned some of the names um talking about Boise State Fresno obviously we know the the pack to Oregon State Washington State kind of walk us through and maybe if we speculate a little bit or try to figure out who would comprise the 12 if we do get to 12 yeah or or the 10 um I it was immediately communicated to me that the best of the the American from uh from that conference schools West of the Mississippi for travel purposes the name UTSA immediately came up um you know I I think Air Force would be Air Force would be actually be a reverse uh reverse move to the American because they're sitting there as as eight but Memphis maybe even a rice I don't see the value of rice except you're in Houston that's why I don't think this this TV deal is going to be a monster deal I think it just perpetuates the league and there is some there is you know a little a little value in that pack 12 logo not much um you could have called it anything and it would probably be where the same the question is do they go as far as USF which has been speculated and I think that's where you get into to the you know do we really want to do this with what Stanford and Cal have done what the p 12 teams have done on the west coast to go play in the Big 10 USF is really investing in football they building a new I think on on campus Stadium um they are an upand Comer they have a good coach and Alex Gish I don't know if they want to go that I could be wrong um you know maybe they just stay regionally with those teams I mentioned but I think they can get there and get more value if they stay in that region Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports joining us on the news that uh the Mountain West has been poached of four teams Fresno State Colorado State Boise State uh all and San Diego State all on their way to the Pack 2 so the mount West is going to have a little bit of a windfall of cash how do you feel like they react and will there be a bidding war between this pack six and the Mountain West and trying to back fill their numbers yeah I mean there's two things that immediately come up is the p is the Mountain West those eight teams is it going to exist at all or is it going to just reconstitute itself I just told you about Air Force being very attractive to the American who would then have the entire commander and Chief's trophy race Under One Roof in their conference um you know Hawaii is heavily subsidized their Travel Is by The Mountain West well do you want to continue doing that you know there's a lot of I don't know chaff there I guess that's the right word you know New Mexico San Jose State Nevada we're just as much there there now if they can Cobble something together and get the okay from the cfp board of managers that they would be eligible for a spot then yeah I guess it's worth keeping but I talked to one person last night who was flat out convinced that those eight teams would scatter to the four wins haven't been able to determine that yet that's kind of weird to me Dennis because it feels like we're kind of building a subdivision on an area that we know is going to flood here in about three four years and we're just going to have to uproot and move and and have all of our foundations eroded anyways it just feels like that's where college football is headed I guess how stable can this new reorganized Pack 2 actually become when the real storm of realignment and everything hits yeah that's a great that's a great point because I think the first and when I talked to Teresa Gould the commissioner that's the first thing I'm going to ask her how many of your teams can fully fund U Revenue sharing you know if it comes to that in the house settlement that's really the dividing line now I wrote about it last week that the schools that could can afford 23 million a year in Revenue sharing for the next 10 years each $230 million are going to be the ones that make the cut line because it looks it's looking more and more like there's going to be a cutline of 50 to 80 schools that are just going to go off and play on their own you already see that advocated by the likes of the night commission um the Super League was that and so does does this new leag does this new pack 12 get its nose in Under the Tent I don't know with those schools I mean there's a reason why traditional uh schools like Kansas are spending $450 million on a new stadium res renovation uh Wake Forest just announced a new kind of Sports Village in conjunction with Ry Durham these are what I call Love Letters to major college football that we are going to invest we aren't going to be left behind and you're going to have to consider us well just like you know the market forces that have caused realignment in other words the TV networks that's who's going to choose eventually who's in this group of 50 to 80 that's going to move on do you think TV networks had any say in this we know they've driven a lot of this but I mean these aren't household names in the landscape even Washington State and Oregon State uh did they have any driving force in this at all well look the uh the pack the Pack 12 hired a consultant um the consultant is well known I'm sure they they priced it with some of the rights holders but this isn't this isn't you know uh the Big 12 losing Texas and Oklahoma this isn't that this isn't the Big 10 grabbing four pack 12 schools this is trying to though o Oregon State and Washington State having the money and the leverage to put together a conference that it as appealing as it could and try to get the most they can for it and then bringing it to Market I don't know if they've been given they've been given an idea of what they get because how can you pricess when you don't know who's going to be in the conference um it's not even a full conference yet so no I don't in answer to your question I don't think this was one of those cases where it was uh it was all about the networks making the call well Dennis give me your opinion on that when you look at Oregon state Washington state boisey state San Diego State kind of as the Staples throwing a Fresno and Colorado State and then maybe some of the other potential suggested UNLV or Air Force um how much of a sword do you think they wield when it comes to the negotiating table in that group or just the two I would say that F that group as it's kind of reorganizing yeah I started to make calls on that and priced it and it's ranged from folks that worry that they're going to be priced out of um bidding on it because it's going to be overpriced to H about the same as what they get now um and what they get now is is 45 million per year um from Fox and CBS for 12 teams then they get they have a a few games on TNT they get a couple of shekels from that so I'm told it'll be something around that uh again in this environment where money has God billions of dollars have just gone to the NBA every other network has locked up with long-term deals in the power four that there just as M much money out there like there's nobody clamoring to have this content and so I think the market will speak and so it won't be it won't be outlandish I mean it'll be look the the greatest accomplishment for these six seem to be eight or more is that they're together uh just like the big 12 a couple of years ago the greatest accomplishment of Brett ymark and signing that deal in October of 2022 is he did the P 12 didn't look what happened to them so you and anticipate as of right now that the Pack 2 will have I mean there's no extra access to the college football playoff than the old Mountain West did I mean they're pretty much on Level Playing Field on that correct yeah I I was asked by one of the editors of that today and it's like to me with this lineup it's really no different than what the Mountain West is today and that is on paper uh the best group of five conference if if everything plays out in most years this Mountain West was going to get you know one of those five automatic spots the highest rank conference Champion um I I think that's going to be the case with this with this new pack 12 uh they're better their lineup looks better than the AAC it looks better than the Sun Belt or Mac or Conference USA so I think again they preserve that um in getting that there's something to be said for that you there's going to be value to the new pack 12 championship game because whoever's showing that game can say this is for a playoff spot they're reasonable in most years um because of what happens in that league and the brands are playing it so Dennis Scotty and I have a a real interest in Utah State I mean a real deep interest Scotty was graduated there and and is the play-by-play voice for the Aggies and the olssen name is there I've got a son that's going to play there next year I mean I've the whole thing I mean we we have a lot of interest locked up in Utah State and in Logan in general our families are here and it's just a really important place to us and there's so much instability right now with firings and and I know you saw the things that went on and and there's a lot of problems if if you were running the show right now with Utah State what types of moves would you be doing who would you be on the phone with what what would you be attempting to do to stabilize the future of sports in Logan I'd be on the phone um you know off off the off the Record or you know secretly with Mark Keenum who is the I think still the chair of the board of manager that's the presidents who run the cfp um and he's at Mississippi State very smart guy very good and just ask him you know what do we have to look like you know to be you know to to retain our status in uh in the playoffs in FBS um the way the way it's set now that everybody has access best of the five um usually gets in but it isn't automatic and this thing is going to be negotiated talk talking about the entry points are going to be renegotiated at the end of this season and you better believe that the Big 10 and SEC are going to flex and by Flex I mean what they did in February in March and that is demand automatic uh bursts AQ bursts didn't go over well then after one of them wins another National Championship you know they may have more leverage and so where does that put those other schools when you know they're getting automatic six automatic births out of 12 a year so that would be my first call just to see what do we have to do to remain relevant in uh in FBS and what kind of conference do we have to put together you know what's interesting uh before we let you go um you've got and I'm not sure I I we were Hans and I were driving up here to Cash Valley so I'm not sure if a statement's been released by The Mountain West but I'm sure if it hasn't there will be one about how all eight schools are committed to preserving the Mountain West and Kumbaya blah blah blah Did they did Yep this morning but but ultimately they'll all slit each other's throat for right to be part of that pack absolutely oh yeah absolutely yeah that's we've seen that proven over and over and over um I I was told you know they obviously the Mountain West was shocked by this surprised did they 12 was shocked in July of 2021 when Texas and Oklahoma left if you want to hide something from somebody you're going to hide it and you you'll take the hit later like you know where's your loyalty blah blah blah um but yeah the the ones that are complaining today will be the first ones out the door if they get a lucrative offer yeah well Dennis we appreciate you joining us on short notice uh crazy times never a dull moment in college athletics especially college football all right appreciate it guys thanks you got it you're the best Dennis DOD CBS sports right here on 975 the ekl sports and up on Saturday man this going to be a fun one yeah it's going to be really exciting the Maverick Stadium is going to be popping that's for sure yeah you'll have plenty of red in there too I'm sure but uh but a lot of blue and uh and to be part of a game that where this rivalry gets resumed I got to imagine that's fun for you as a kid that grew up in the state of Utah yeah I mean I grew up watching games like this especially like BYU Utah and Utah State Utah and Utah State BYU it's just really awesome to be a part of a rivalry in the state of Utah where I grew up so it's going to be a fun game it's going to be a fun test for you yeah and you've played well T yeah i' I've been so proud of you just continue to fight man it's awesome watching you lock down UFC edges we haven't seen uh we haven't seen many 15 yarders though we got to get that number up a little bit yeah do you have a you got a flag yet no what's that's not the tigue I know yeah well it's been a it's been a little you you do this you're going to be punished so I'm like all right I'm going just play it smart well there were there were a couple guys and rley Nelson's going to join us here in just a second uh there were a couple guys that got 15 yarders in that Robert Morris game yeah and uh and it wasn't Teague and it wasn't Teague and uh I said I think I think pulle got one of them did and uh and and coach goes we're going to handle that in practice and I don't know I don't know what went on there but it didn't sound like it was going to be pleasant no definitely not pleasant that's why I've I feel like I love getting people mad at me but like I just I just stay calm cool and collected cuz that's my boy that's I don't know I feel like those ways there you go because you have a father that you have to answer to yeah will be not happy about your 15 yarders well joining us now uh a guy who spent time in Logan at Utah State finish his career at BYU Riley Nelson kind enough to join us Riley how are you what's up Riley great to be with you boys doing well thanks hey so there's a lot to talk to you about but uh I want to get your opinion on uh what you've seen these first two weeks out of BYU and you feel like uh especially on the defensive side this team has turned a corner now remember they started three and0 last year and we know how that season ended do you feel like this season will end differently than it did last year yeah the defense uh just the attitude looks different uh now will it end differently hard to say I um I kind of believe that you need three games to kind of know and one of those has to include like has to be a conference match up before you need so three maybe four to get you into conference play to really know what you got in the team so I don't know if it could turn the corner I think the defense has turned the corner absolutely just the aggressiveness the attitude the overall approach which by the way we were all hoping and praying for when you know Jay Hill was there and then late last season they start you started hearing whispers that Gary Anderson's down there help and you know they basically kind of got the gang back together from all those early 2010 great uh you know great or late 2000s 2010ish you know Utah defenses and they were getting a game back together so you hope it was a matter of time I kind of am am a believer uh there on on the other side of the football I think a lot remains to be seen obviously that being this early in the season never I mean I know technically SMU is in the ACC now but they're not really a Bonafide like P4 opponent you haven't faced a P4 opponent yet and you're already down to number three um uh on the dep chart at RB now all the agies up there know that en Noah is you know he's no slouch um so some people are sleeping on him but still it just doesn't look good that you're already struggling with dep dep issues an important position at quarterback I think RL um you raised some of the same questions that people had against him towards the end of last season I don't know that uh Bonafide like take it to the bank receiving threat has emerged out of the tight end and receiving crew so uh but hey they got another they got a great opportunity this week against w who's going to give them you know their absolute best shot it's going to be on the road and hostile which I think you can learn some of those things even though you're not lining up against you know a P5 or P4 opponent in a conference matchup yet Riley it's great to get to catch up with you man got the bump IND at the Lehigh game I told you to watch number four that maze Matson at that Lehigh game what' you think of that kid yeah I mean the the DNA right no wonder his brothers up there at Boise and doing big things and he was yeah I mean you told me you go look he's the be he's goingon to be the best football player on the field tonight and probably over the course of the Season be one of the best in the state but like I loved him I I watching Britain and I know Britain played quarterback but ABS had they had anybody else in those temp you know he probably would have played the similar position but like he's the closest thing I've seen to Brit cubby he he's not there yet and I don't want to put those expectations on him yet and like just I truly think Britain is like a once in a generation like Quicks and acceleration but Madson at Le has the closest thing I've seen to uh to Briton cvy and Utah prep scene he's so stinking good man you know he's committed to play baseball at Southern Utah He's a baseball dude his dad was a baseball coach at UVU and baseball which you know I was a lefty and I I had some offer some like smaller offers going I probably should have stuck with it because who knows maybe I'd still be like down in Venezuela or Mexico you know play playing because I was a lefty right you're a rare commodity better than as opposed to being a quarterback when it's like oh he's a lefty QB and everybody groans because they got to flip the protections they got to move the left tackle to right and all this other stuff um but no there's just something about football man we'll see it as the year plays out I'm sure more and more coaches are going to be knocking on his door and giving He he'll have options I think at the end of this football season that's for sure which I'm excited he's a tremendous athlete and deserves every opportunity he's earned so when you I'm sure that you can't turn your mind off when it comes to watching quarterback play what have you seen out of Jake redoff these first two weeks of the Season yeah um I mean if I can be honest guys and and I say this you know on Fridays I'm on uh um I think it's your sister station or is it under the 1280 any with yeah oh yeah no JJ and Alex yeah yep y they're with us yeah know I'm with I'm so you know the other program with JJ Alex on Fridays we preview all the games and essentially what my narrative was after the uh Southern Illinois game was like and and by the way I'm going to give Alex Keri credit for this he kind of said we should abolish the the FCS FBS games and find another way to do the wealth transfer and spread the love around because like I don't think you learn anything and I I I feel that um that kind of proved true a little bit and that everyone's like oh see rlap completely different guy like look 341 three TDS I was like no one had heard of so all you guys are thinking Southern Illinois northern Illinois that you know is FBS and had some big ones but like they were not they were FBS I honestly think half of the fans thought that um in like and being convinced that he had like turned the corner and then we turn out against an U team which like yeah they won a lot of games last year but they haven't beat a P4 opponent since they beat like a 3 and10 TCU team back in I think 2019 um you know so like despite winning 11 games last year I wasn't as high on him as as most people were and he came out and he struggled mightily and this is like like BYU scored less points than Nevada and I don't think you look at Nevada in the landscape of the mount West and they're kind of like middle of the pack so I don't think it was some like super Big Stiff test now it's hard to win football games and especially win football games on the road no body knows that better than me so I'm not discrediting but you asked about the quarterback play and you know I don't think he's completely turned the corner like people were thinking in week one and I think we're seeing some of the same old uh things that that hold him back from his full potential and namely to me that's kind of a lack of composure at times and uh and an ability or an inability to really secure up the football both in running the ball meaning putting fumbles on the ground and and in the pass game and then even more than those because I know those those have gotten plenty of play the biggest thing for me that I look about look at when I watch quarterback play is like what are they are they coming up big on third down to move the sticks whether it's short medium or long and then what are they doing in the red zone are they in other words the offense under their direction are they moving the chains down the field and then once they get into the red zone are they great quite honestly like I don't have much interest in a guy who's great between the 20s and good on first and second down they just need to be okay there what I'm looking for is a guy who when the chips are down on third down Red Zone and other key Downs throughout the game is going to come up and and Elevate his play which then in turn raises the play of the 10 guys around him those are the those are the truly special guys and I think at least for me uh the the sample size or what I've seen from from Jake there I think it needs to continue to be built so Riley I think that you more specifically than anybody can speak on Jake rlof because you were a move around extended make plays and make things happen type of quarterback and Jake attempts to be the same type of thing and there are some rpos called where he gets to make some decisions he should make decisions based off of defenses but probably makes them based off of motion how hard is it when you're your type of player and you know that you're where you're supposed to be or where you're at because you're a hustler and you're making those plays on the run and you're extending the pocket and you're you're doing it out sometimes outside of what the offense is asking how hard is it to make those right decisions knowing ball control is so important but you're like I got to make a play because that's what you do how hard is it in those moments to make the right play yeah and you know I think it it it can be but you know I came to BYU having gotten experience at Utah State Jake comes to BYU having gotten a ton of experience at the junior college level um so you know I as I've talked with some people around they're like ah small sample size might be a little bit harsh it's like no I mean look at SAR SAR came in ready to play was before him talking about BYU quarterbacks who came who came from the JC route like JC you're supposed to kind of knock off all those R rough edges and kind of and kind of learn those lessons but how difficult is it it's not if you have trust in the dudes around you it's not that difficult I always say that that that the quarterback is he gets a disproportionate amount of credit but he also gets a disproportionate amount of blame but that is because like he is the sum product of the 10 guys around him and if you have trust in your guys and I and I like I put it this way I didn't strug junior year right I get put in again uh with BYU is I start eight games we go seven and one we were averaging 30 plus points a game things were great our offensive line was healthy we had all our best dudes were out there and playing like we didn't we hardly had any injury bug like we have full competent of guys or cabinet of guys it was good trusted all of them we didn't have Replacements from week to week it was the same dudes out there every day at practice same dud line up every day and Saturday now fast forward one year oh by the way turnovers were at a minimum I think I threw maybe a h in those eight games maybe a handful of picks and maybe one or two fumbles fast forward a year and we we lose two of our starting on lineman in Camp we within the first three games we're down similar to this team we're down two running backs and you know rosopo is deal with a shoulder and anator hamstring in game four we lose our starting tight end and con F like so we're not even halfway through the season and now we're breaking in new dudes we're pulling dudes off of scout team you know they went through all of camp and in the first three weeks of the you know three four weeks of the season on Scout team now they're pulling up they're trying to learn the offense we're trotting them out there on Saturday they're try they're trying to their best to survive against the likes of boisey and Notre Dame and Oregon State and and Utah right and you're just trying to keep your head above water it was in those situations when I felt like hey I have to make up for the circum for the for the unfortunate circumstances of of what's happened to our offense from a depth and injury standpoint it was harder in those moments to control to play Within Myself and not want to overextend myself and put the possession of the ball in Jeopardy now Junior it was easy not to do that because you knew your guys were going to perform around you and if it didn't work on a particular play in a particular drive you knew you were going to get a crack at it when you feel thin from an injury or death standpoint that's when you feel like I might not get another opportunity so I really have to act outside myself so it can be hard depending on the circumstances of the team from week to week and season to season before we let you go you're colani satake and you're Aaron rodri so you're you're you're coach Nelson coaching BYU what is the point in which you say I need to see Gary Bohanan out there is there is it one interceptions two interceptions I mean what's what's what's the bench point where you're like okay no it's it's time to look at the other guy yeah so um it all has to be in the circumstance of the game if they if we have a repeat of if they go to laram me and it's a repeat of what happened down in Dallas right which is it was pretty evident from the beginning of that game that the BYU's defense it didn't matter which quarterback that and SMU was rotating de or quarterbacks right but it didn't matter who was on there they couldn't really move the ball when they had the Jennings kid in there he was running around a little bit they got some first downs but they still weren't scoring right defense holding the field goal defense is playing great defense is you know know sacking them causing wreaking havoc on the other side of the football like and and it's in those games when you as a quarterback you swallow your pride and you're like okay this is this is going to be a defensive battle pre possession is going to be Paramount it's that if this somehow turns into a 42 to 45 shootout and they're asking Jake to throw you know to throw it 50 times and in those 50 attempts you know oh there's a tip ball at the line of scrimmage that gets picked off or you know they it's late game scenario he throws a ball down the field it's a 50/50 ball and the DB happens to come down with it right but it was on but it was on a third and long and kind of one of those things as good as a punt so not I guess what I'm trying to say there is not all turnovers are created equally but I I think um and quite honestly you guys saw the presser I believe it was on Monday Kanani and and H you know from you know postgame interviews and Scotty you know from covering the sport too like you listen to colani and most often the dude is excellent at saying a bunch of words but never actually saying anything but he's like happy and he's upbeat when he's saying it so he's not he doesn't come off like a cantankerous guy kind of like billich or even like my coach menal did right where like people still love Kanani even though doesn't actually ever give him anything in in these Weekly pressors right for the beat writer well Monday he gave us something like there was visible emotion on his face when he was talking about the possession of the football is not anyone player it is it is possessed by the team it is possessed by the fans it's possessed by the whole program it's not something to be taken lightly and he basically said if that doesn't get fixed that is going to be a problem and so if I'm Jake rlap like that's my head coach put me on notice I'm sure the OC I know that Rodrick has in in all the time that I've spent with aod rodri his number one priority has never changed and that's that possession of the football is Paramount and so I'm sure Rodrick has talked to him behind uh closed doors so Jake's probably been put on notice the fact that he's been put on notice means that that leash is very short we'll see how the kind of the Dynamics of the game go but I would not be surprised if they're prepared mentally think they're preparing this I don't think they're doing this in reps and they're definitely not saying it to the media but I wouldn't be surprised if you have another first half with a turnover or two the game's too close or you're behind and you just don't like the Vibes in another hostile environment Larry laramy Wyoming I wouldn't be surprised to see him you know try something new sorry to ramble on because I know you got to go to break but like like that's what eventually happened there was no plans going that Utah State game my junior year there was never any plans of me it was not in fact I got fewer reps that week and practice because they were so concerned with Jake's play or or lack of performance that like there was you know normally you get like the first period of Team normally you get one series and then the second period of team and you get one in like seven on I didn't get a series in seven on I got like two plays at the end of the seven on practice I didn't get my uh I didn't get my like goal line work or third down work as the backup and like I got so I got like one series of team and there was one practice that week I didn't even get put in in team because they were trying to invest everything they were in the starter but like The Vibes of that game down a 11 late third quarter against an instate rival about to lose for the second in a row like Dolen and menahal were just like okay we got to try something new and I think I would not be surprised if I'm not saying it happens this week but again if the Vibes aren't there and Kanani feels it and rodri feels it I wouldn't be surprised to see a mid game at some point does it worry you that he didn't beat that Gary banana didn't beat Jake out through spring and through fall it does because I think uh look you bring in a high profile transfer a dude that kind of has the resume that he does is accumulated the yards and you heard in Spring that because he wasn't quite healthy but then everybody's kind of paring the same message that no no he's 100% like this is this is full strength on full strength between redl and and Bohanan and and he still didn't win it um which to your point H like that wasn't I I just shared my experience that wasn't the case for me going in I got injured the year prior and they basically you know from midpoint that 2010 season said we're going with Jake so I was always the backup it wasn't a competition where you know you could say like well Nelson didn't beat him out so there must be something here they went through a full evaluation and they were they were equal reps through you know a good six you know 65 to 70% of all camp and and Gary couldn't do it but so it it worries me a little bit especially knowing that success success with Aaron rodri is playing within the system I mean as many highlights as we saw from Zack and jiren Hall over their careers and playing underneath that system the reality is they were just like letting Rodrick and fessie and even Jeff gri some of those other guys they were letting them dial up stuff for him they didn't feel like they had to go outside the system um so I guess anyway I'm rambling here and it it worries me a little bit it it worries me a little bit but ultimately compet I guess Here's the final thought competition is the ultimate uh litmus test and you cannot continue to see Jake struggle in competitive situations that are not like fall Camp right which are controlled scenarios you need the chaotic you need the chaos of competition to really see um really see who a guy is you're starting to see kind of who red slap is granted I don't think you can cast his die quite yet but you're starting to see if it continues down the trending you H you owe it at least to yourself even though you feel like he lost the evaluation during fall Camp you ow at least to yourself to see how bohannan um manages the chaos of competition uh this time around with BYU to well and you don't just owe it to yourself as a coach you owe it to your team the other 21 guys out there and you owe it to the pro so that you can ensure through competition that you got the best guy on the field Riley appreciate it man great conversation great inside and look forward to catching up again here soon it's been fun being the third best uh make sure that you guys are all at practice so you're deal with your Young Buck but how have you like coach dley he's been a he's been a really good coach uh he kept most of the stuff the same which I've really appreciated and he's just tried to make everything better like the things that we didn't like that coach a had put in place like he met with every single guy one-on-one and asked what could I do better what could what things can I do yeah every single person one-on-one what can I do better what are the things that coach ah had put in place that you'd like to see changed and he it would have been difficult to drive up here here and do this show and then drive back down to the valley and not a lot of fun and get there well I I love the drive and this time of year oh yeah it's a it's beautiful it hasn't quite turned yet but it's it's hands we're talking about it's getting right there it's so close it's getting so close there's two weeks where driving through that Canyon is just so much fun I don't know if there's a more beautiful Canyon and in that in that one stretch just there by Sherwood yep when it's really in its prime it's hard to beat that yeah we have a lot of great canyons in Utah including the Cottonwood canyons are amazing but this one sardine through through this time of year it's incredible why do they call it sardin Canyon by I you know what I don't know I don't know either I don't think that's the actual name to be honest with you I think that it's it's got an actual name I think sardine is a just a nickname it's a nickname I bet when Uncle Merlin was driving through town when he just named it and then it he was probably eating of those like tin cans of sardines with crackers he's like I'm calling it Sardine Canyon and nobody's going to tell me otherwise and no one's going to tell me everybody's like you're right throws the tin can out the window you're right Merlin this is now sardine that was after after he wrestled the bear well after this are we all going to go over to Merlin olssen Park and have ourselves a picnic I like it you know I used to live in a house right across the street from Merlin Olson Park were you by the island yeah were you on the island or you on we were right next to the island market so okay so you're you're near River Heights yeah is that no that's not River Heights is River Heights back behind It on the Mountain yeah yeah but yeah but uh this is this is still Logan right there right next to Merlin Olsson Park well Frank we appreciate you coming down who's box who are they playing you're like you're like uh celebrity around these parts no actually I am Public Enemy Number One around these parts wait how does that how does that work uh cuz I didn't come play here and many thought I should have well I mean I think they've gotten over it but John L Smith yeah I mean come on was a wildy Cy this wasn't the this wasn't the high point of Utah State football coach katzer was a wiy oh wow that's a name I haven't thought of in a while what who was the guy that went to Arkansas Bobby Patrina was the OC Bobby Patrina was a Wy coyote yeah that was Bobby Petrino Bobby patrino was a like one of many great football mind great football coach but had you know off the field he's a horrible human being I mean let's be honest let's just call the way it is we don't even need to say it it's been Bobby patrino it's is a fantastic coach and a not a good human being I and there there's a lot of coaches out there like that I I was just going to say he had some off the field issues I mean why D why dance around it same thing with his brother Rick patino no I'm just joking oh my gosh you leave Rick patino out of this good coach great coach Hall of Fame coach you we need to talk about the restaurant keep your name Rick patino out your mouth do we need to talk about the restroom at the restaurant no okay then we not where would you put uh never mind we could we could go down a terrible path by the way box elder and Roy are are aligning tonight and Roy of course is the home of Jim MCM who many continue the who who many say is the greatest college quarterback of all time Jim McMahon people say he's the greatest college quarterback of all time oh yeah that's W widely regarded as the greatest college quarterback of all time Tim TBO might have something to say about that Tim TBO is not even close to the greatest college quarterback of all time you can't argue Jim doesn't have backto back national champ he's close he's not even close love it when get triggered with TBO man well I love Tim TBO like everything that guy stands for I'm all about Tim TBO to say that he is the greatest college quarterback of all time I mean he did some great things Jim McMahon never won a Heisman well that's what I'm saying is Jim even the best quarterback to play at BYU Frank oh my gosh do you remember that text that I sent you earlier this week yeah I screen grabbed it and I've sent it to the authorities it still applies because something needs to happen wow so you so you text him but you don't text me that's you were on the text scre it was a group text oh was it yeah yeah oh and of course you didn't reply so for another week in a row I have Frank asked where are we Lloyd replied Providence Frank goes he said Logan Oh Logan Frank goes where EXA is there a more specific location Logan Utah and then yeah so and then Frank said something mean Logan Utah is what heow wow yeah you i' I've screen grabbed that and I've sent it to the doj you could po I don't care post it because everybody who now knows the story everybody who now knows the story will will agree with my sentiments oh you are so and Jim McMahon is the best quarterback in BYU BYU history no doubt you're positive name one better I could probably name five BYU qub shy little man named Mark Wilson a fellow by the name of nson Steve sarisen that's good Rich John Walsh that's compelling and Rich a guy named Brandon dolman who played later many years you can't even you can't even say that with a straight face if people could see the grin on your face right now we're all watching him on TV Brett Inman you know Brett Inman hey but speaking of great quarterbacks when do we see you in the Ring of Honor this mov on at the University of Utah never they build the Ring of Honor Frank you better be in that thing within 5 years never I'm not even kidding you dude I agree how many years did you broadcast 28 yeah I think if you add up the legendary career you add in the broadcasting career this guy should he should never pay for a mill ever on that campus I'm just going to say this evil forces are conspiring really against me du Gunn it yeah hot Rings of Fire separate you from that Ring of Honor yeah uh you'll get there all right if they want a complete ring you'll be there yes well you're nice so what did you what did you take away from that Baylor game that cam Rising is pretty important to this team no no I took away from the Baylor game I've been harping on this from the very beginning and now I think it's more important than ever Utah has to identify a run game to lean on and I still don't think they've done that and this is why it's so important because now cam Rising goes down and you have true freshman qb1 qb2 rows untested what are are the are and and a wide receiver group that hasn't really led the passing attack are so now are you telling me you're going to rely on those that group to win football games eventually potentially but Utah's built on the Run game Utah's built at winning at the line of scrimmage and I don't think we've identified that in the first two games for Utah so I still think it's of Paramount importance to identify the Run game m Bernard kind of kind of yeah but stepped up kind but but no one else has really demonstrated yeah so there's a chicken or an egg thing here because I think a lot of people look at the fact that Utah was rolling offensively cam Rising goes out Utah stops dead in their tracks offensively so a plus b equals cam Rising means everything to the offense however I think I think you bring up a really good point when you dig a Little Deeper uh Isaac Wilson probably looks a lot better as a quarterback if he's got a great running attack and people don't have don't don't have to sell out against the pass because they know that they're like oh crap these dudes can run on us for six seven yards a carry so I absolutely yeah a great running game is a quarterback's best friend you remember John Hayes yeah what what do you remember about John Hayes handing off to John White the fourth John White the fourth besides we used to say hay makes plays yeah I mean John Hayes makes plays but he had a great running back and and Norm Chow said John uh give it to John White on three ready break okay yeah okay and and all the quarterbacks recent memory outside of Cam Rising I mean we we we'll leave and and even Alex Smith had a good running game behind him and so did Brian Johnson Travis Wilson had a good run Ty Huntley really good solid running game behind like all of these quarterbacks have benefited from the Utah philosophy of strong Run game and then let that let the passing game build off of that all right Frank I'm going to appeal to your quarterback senses okay okay take you back to your days at the quarterback yes Glory Days at the quarterback okay you can either have you can either have Barry Sanders behind your running back uh-huh or you can have Jerry Rice at receiver Barry Sanders there's so a receiving threat that's always open and making you look like a hero because you can release because he's got distance you're going to take the running back that you hand it to and becomes the hero yeah but as a quarterback do you not want somebody that you can that's that's always on spot perfect timing head on a swivel catches anything that you throw with a 5 y radius a great running game will help you identify by several receiving options Alvin Harper wasn't much of a receiver when he left the Cowboys and EMT Smith he was a he was a Pro Bowl wide receiver that's right he was a pro bowl receiver when he was with the Cowboys and EMT Smith yeah absolutely well you you mentioned maai Bernard separated a little bit Kyle Whittingham joined Scott an yesterday he said the same thing Kyle said we feel like we got some separation with maai Bernard but is is maai is he the man is he the man that can be the 20 carry give you a four and a half five 5.2 per carry he's got a he's got an average close to 5 yards carry he has to be able to run for 125 yards a game that's that's what's going to be required under the current scenario now if Cam Rising is back at the position or if if one of the one of the two other quarterbacks Rises to that level then no you don't necess neily need that but in this what Utah's facing currently with Cam rising out the a a powerful Run game is supremely important in my opinion all right so that being said M you don't you know there's not a waiver wire you can't trade for a stud running back it is what it is right now so how do you go about this then with Isaac Wilson quarterback well okay I think we all assume that Isaac Wilson will be the guy coming up on Saturday yeah um yeah and so but I mean Utah probably gets that Win Regardless um so let's talk Oklahoma State in two weeks yeah what does it benefit cam Rising win or loss against Utah State this weekend what do the benefit to about 12 Play yeah yeah there's no benefit so so I would be surprised to see cam Rising Trot out there with with the injury I would as well and and so I'm going with Isaac Wilson is quarterback number one you a whiff of that barbecue yeah really yeah I did and I was hoping that it would be evident on the table when I arrived and apparently you guys ate it meantime you went and bought a uh aai aai a coyote Bowl so so the game plan moving forward with Isaac Wilson is uh you have to help him get rid of the ball quickly you don't want him to necessarily sit in the pocket a long time utilize the tight end group take some shots downfield when it's appropriate utilize his athleticism so get Isaac involved in the Run game to keep a defense off balance and that's what I think the game plan is at this point I don't think you want him at right now unless he demonstrates something different than he has in the first two weeks drop back in the pocket try and read several read the coverage read you know go through his progression downfield and then try and make a decision off of that I don't I think he has the ability to do that but it is incredibly difficult to step off of uh the high school field and and into this scenario in division one college football at the quarterback position so I was just looking at um some of the Run defenses that Utah is going to face in the Big 12 I think it's going to be better run defenses in the Big 12 than what they saw in the Pack 12 personally I just I think that there was some Elite Talent that USC would pull in but I they had Elite Talent linebacker but USC had Elite Talent all over the field yeah they did defensively but they had a defensive coordinator who was not Elite but I do think that might have changed now I know that I know and you saw him you saw him up up close and personal so they have Elite Talent now with a a much better scheme yep go but anyways you got five teams right now through two or maybe three games that are keeping teams under 100 yards rushing yeah I know that you've got the FCS opponent in there like for instance Arizona State right now is giving up 32 yards per game rushing per game now they played Wyoming who I'm currently preparing for getting ready to call the BYU Wyoming Game Wyoming is terrible is BYU a plus 10 in that game BYU should be should be a plus 14 I got to IM BYU is like okay that's what I'm saying 18 so so Wyoming's favored by 18 that's what I'm saying no by's a minus 18 oh CU I you said plus and I said plus two and then that means that I thought you were saying the BYU should win by at least 18 I know what you thought I was saying but what I but really saying you know that's not funny uhoh I ain't get me mad did did I I've never seen hands angry uh I have oh I don't ever get angry I get hurt I've seen hands angry that one time when we were at his house and the pizza delivery was late BYU minus 11 it took an hour and a half that's it huh that's it huh took an hour and a half for that pizza to come and when it came it was cold and see you don't have that problem in Bountiful you got to drive all the way out to some I was losing my mind middle of nowhere Eagle Mountain yeah yeah could have I could have hand pressed dough you could have gone out to the to the wheat field could have grown my own stomped on it with my feet I I think you're right I think Utah's going to face more Stout run defenses in the Big 12 by the way did you hear about the pack six uh that's been a bit of a topic yes yeah that's that's fascinating isn't it anyway I think Utah will face better run defenses in the Big 12 but that doesn't like I mean but that doesn't mean you go away like Utah personality you can't go away from your personality yeah and so I I heard all the stuff be before the season and I kind of want to believe it about hey the the passing game is going to run through singer and we're going to open it up and we're going to do this and it hasn't we haven't seen it yet and I don't think we're going to see it this weekend no are you concerned about camer Rising yes his injury whatever is going on well I'm not concern this specific injury okay that's we we'll get to that coming up next yeah uh I don't from what I understand from what I understand we'll talk about it next this injury is not significant that you would see we I could have you could have that and get people through the break tease it it's significant but but you won't believe what Frank will say about it coming you won't believe what else I heard there you go Hans and Scotty 975 D KL Sports Zone that's Frank Dolce uh we Sports Z your home for the best college football coverage in Utah is on the KSL Sports s it's a Saturday MAA battle for the yous as they had North the Logan to battle Utah State your home for the best coverage of Utah football is right here on 975 the KSL Sports Zone this is H ssen and Scotty CH presented by Mountainland Supply on 975 the KSL Sports so gam went out everything kind of deflated which was disappointing you know exact opposite should happen when you if you lose a key player everyone else needs to pick up their game and and pick up the slack it's not just on Isaac Wilson to come in and and pick it up it's everyone around him and so that's something that was probably the most disappointing thing in the game is just our the way we let the wind completely come out of our sails and not continue to move the football well right now it appears to be Brandon Rose he's the guy that played today would be the number two guy but the week's not over yet but uh he looked pretty sharp today and and I think look sharp as well hands in Scotty 975 the KSL Sports Zone it's your you preview show which means we get graced by the presence of Frank Dolce who's hanging out with us you heard Kyle Whittingham talk about the fact that he wasn't pleased that his offense bogged down when cam Rising went out and then mentioned that if indeed cam Rising won't go and we pressed him on it yesterday when we talked and he said uh yeah I'm not going to tell you guys uh who's going to start but I think we all believe that it's going to be Isaac Wilson and in fact if it is Isaac Wilson as the number one then Frank Brandon Rose will be number two yeah you surprised by that no just because of oh because you thought maybe Sam is better yes and and Hans and I have been quoting Hans and I have been quoting you a lot lately in terms of hey Brandon Rose couldn't beat out Bryson Barnes yeah so do you really want to elevate him when you can go with Sam hu my the only thing I could say about that the only thing I could say about that is that rose has a better grasp of the offense yeah at this moment than Sam Sam wasn't in Spring came in and fall exactly and I would I would also say this watching having seen those guys physically throw the ball around I think you would I think you would align it differently I mean I think I think Sam is pretty talented throwing the football so the only thing that would separate him at this point and what is what is supremely important for Utah is someone who understands and can run the offense that Andy Ludwig wants to employ on Saturday so but you're not worried about the actual injury of Cam Rising no I'm worried about the injury this specific injury no I'm I'm worried about the injury for cam Rising for a few reasons because one he's been he's he's he's just been injured a lot he's been injured a lot all different things two we saw him warm up go to the locker room and then say I can't play after preparing to be the starter all week and then Bryson bar bars is you know thrown into the and and I've also we've also seen and by the way I I I don't want to I I don't want to be negative I don't want this to to come across as negative against C cam Rising because in terms of being a great Utah college quarterback I think you could put him right near the top but he does like there objectively he has injury issues that everybody including cam has dealt with there there was also the time last year when we now now who knows how accurate all of it was but it was being reported that he was cleared to play and that he could play and that he was practicing and dur during practice there was no issues with the swelling and soreness and everything else with the knee well that translated into he did not take one snap last season and came back for this year so there is a there's just a lot of injury baggage that goes along with Cam Rising not the least of which are some of these crazy unverified reports right now that maybe this finger laceration has become infected and who knows how long that what kind of toll that takes on Cam's mentality and and how long that takes to actually heal something like that and by the way I have no other details right total rumor other than complete rumor about that complete in total rumor it's a rumor that's been floated by a couple of different people that I I don't know the depth of their credibility but I've I've seen that report yeah there's this I don't put any Credence into it I don't either but there's this one that's s Gerard on X but there's more rumor about this hand situation than there was even about a knee honestly if you if you guys have been looking around there's more rumors that swirl about this hand than than there was anything from last year people are trying to point I don't know if they're trying to gain angles or advantage or just trying to make fun of it but there's people that they've got a decent following that are throwing some things out there that I'm ignoring I I just I refuse to acknowledge it yeah because it to me it it seems like something that he'd be out a week and be back for Oklahoma State but at least I I hope that's the case but here's the other thing Frank when does he learn when does he learn that's that's how much he doesn't there's no he's never going to learn and and to to be completely honest I think if you're a Utah fan you just have to say cam Rising optimizes his talent when he does these things and the risk of that is that he's going to be injured how do you tell a guy who's had so much success and not only success but so much positive feedback when he puts his shoulder down to get an extra yard when he breaks out of a tackle when he fights that game against USC that game against USC he should probably should have never gotten in the end zone and he did for two-point conversion like I was talking about the big hit he took where he got spun around and and gets up and the team just you know goes nuts yes in reality that's a dumb play yeah it is and and based on his Shake proclivity to get injured you you would say you would want to coach that out of him but you can't you can't that's his personality that's who he is that's how he maximizes his talent and to be honest that's the way I want him to play and if he gets injured that's the risk he takes just be for being who he is like it okay so this this is a harsh word to use in terms of this is he playing selfish when he does that because I mean you got you got Brock Huard who's telling him like Hey you think you're tough by taking big hits guess what you're not being tough if you're sitting on the sideline well you're tough is protecting yourself so you're there for your teammates for 12 13 14 games this year if you take a look at the mobile quarterbacks in the NFL career endurance tell me like not great who are the guys who who are the guys that have lasted and lasted and lasted and been the Iron Man not not many I mean and now that's a different level yeah because you're taking now now you're taking hits that are that are significantly more damaging well the force of the hit I think of it from an offensive lineman's perspective I I don't want to be associated with that I don't want to have a quarterback that's constant outside of the pocket that's extending it and taking hits because I look like the bad guy yeah yeah now whether and if you play at Colorado you got your quarterback and head coach throwing you under the bus for a quarterback that's makes really bad decisions sometimes in that back field well luckily Kyle Whittingham doesn't do that no like you're talking about with Coach Prime but there's an unspoken feeling when you've got a quarterback like that behind you that will not release the ball that will take hits now that hit that he took that threw him into the Gatorade bucket that hit he took he was actually trying to get rid of the ball to avoid the sack yeah and there are a lot of times where he gets rid of the ball he extends the pockets and he won't take sacks so that looks good on the offens of line sack numbers but when your quarterback is taking hits what's the first thing you hear behind you what's the first thing yelled behind you it's come on block for him block for him yeah I mean I don't disagree with that h i don't disagree with that come on guys block I want to spit in your i e ball is that what You' yell out like hey get a block trying to play quarterback here Frank comes back to H up H up guys I need you to block for me guys I can't do this alone do not hear the fans I can't throw and block at the same time I can't throw and block and catch at the same time and run the football I I just sell I'm just saying as an offensive lineman it can wear pretty thin on you and you could be looking behind you like through the ball do you think that was the downfall of jelle and Tom Brady is that she kept yelling things at the offensive line finally the offensive line was like Tom look we can't deal with this anymore it's us or it's her and he made the business decision I highly doubt it and if he chose a bunch of fat pigs over Jazelle then shame on him then he's got the problem Oh my gosh that's a him problem wow yep 100% I got your back on that onez hands and Scot together 975 dkl Sports Zone it's Utah Utah State what do we know Macy's including hands I've seen people walk out with that Kong cone that Kong ice cream cone that thing is massive and it is absolutely a steal you're getting a ton of ice cream it's a dairy truck on a cone yeah I can't believe how much ice cream they put on takes five cows to get the milk for that thing they have plenty up here it still only has 1/8 the sugar that Frank's yogurt has in it what do you mean it's brown cow yeah it's delicious it's a sugar cow is what you've done okay hey you know what judge me all you want I'm not judging judge me all you want I'm jealous care I'm jealous he did go with the bare naked uh granola though that's good granola there let me see that back yeah that's uh that's tasty that is a really tasty granola but that's a lot of sugars but you do have the blueberries well you know when I was making my dietary choices for this afternoon that was was not provided did when I arrived I should have taken you with me around the the store and by the way the selection here is fantastic there there's so much that I I could hardly decide which to take I agree and we do have a gigantic Cas slot sale going on right now through the 17th so you got time to come into this Cas slot sale here at Macy there's some paper products milk you've got the um by the way you got the barbecue the smoker on site so they've got brisket sausage pulled pork chicken ribs ribs all ready to go ribs I do want to mention this deal that is a 50 lb bag of long rice for $9.99 I just had ribs for lunch you know really that's why I'm doing that with my teeth you could be the Scotty G of toilet paper with rice on the next pandemic wait what does that mean I don't know what that means it's it's Scott had a surplus of toilet paper during the pandemic when everybody was walking around with dirty butts Scott was out there looking like the Gerber baby just a clean butt nice toilet paper double ply people were begging for a roll he would not share Lloyd and I we didn't know how long it was going to go Lloyd and I were sitting out there with a garden host spraying each other's backsides because we didn't have any and Scotty would not bring a single roll in for us did you were you selling it online did you open up a TP Black Market no I was sitting outside with a shotgun being like don't in for that St how stupid was that oh my gosh the dumbest thing I've the pandemic hits and everyone's like I better stock up on toilet paper are you kidding me the dumbest thing I've ever seen can you eat toilet paper can does it double as a mush can you put water like a filler blend it up into like a a nice creamy it's tell you what somebody's walking out with a bunch of ramen here too I think he works here oh I think it's lunchtime for the crew I like it he's walking in the back with a couple bag of long rice for $9 something like that during the middle of the pandemic would have cost you 250 bucks easyy you know what else you can get is the Haunted House cookie kit here that's and and the graveyard it's is it are we ready for Halloween like we're even we there bud yep we're there we're there uh Utah State coming off a uh rough game on the road against USC uhhuh and uh Bryson Barnes not sure uh if it'll be him or Spencer petus but uh Bryson um anchored things last week and you know it's interesting how quickly a game can turn Utah state was hanging in there a little bit it was I think 20 to nothing right before the end of the first half and Barnes has Jaylen Royals who I'm excited for both you guys to get a close look at him really good wide receiver um they got him coming across the middle and he's open Bryson looks like he's got him got a beat on him and a USC guy just pops his hand right up at the last second ball goes right up in the air intercepted USC's able to score touchdown and it's 27 nothing and and and it could have been 20 to7 you know just like that and then after that it was just and I'm not look trust me I'm not saying Utah state was going to win that game I'm just saying it could have had a little bit more drama than it ended up having yeah yeah a little more impact well USC has improved on the defensive side there's no question I mean they've as you mentioned they've always had talent but they've got a d-coordinator that somehow is getting these guys to play hard and aggressive yeah and and with that combination of talent and scheme and coaching that's could be dangerous for for lots of teams USC looks like they're back on the rise speaking of you know former Pack 12 teams not to get off track what's or what's going to happen to Oregon I'm just going to leave that there Oregon looks terrible they've barely won two games that they should have won by 40 or 50 points okay anyway back to back to Utah State and and Utah uh okay so Utah brings a super quality defense yes can you compare Utah defensively to USC um I was on a conference call with the coaches earlier today uhhuh and the answer to that is absolutely yes okay so this isn't they think USC's defense is right there with Utah is another reason why cam Rising is not going to start this weekend because Utah brings a defense that should hold Utah State to under 10 10 points or under I'll say that 10 points or under now can Utah with Isaac Wilson score 11 points yeah yeah they should be able to do that so and and that's going to be unfortunately I think that's going to be the story until we you know you have a healthy cam Rising going that's going to be the story for Utah is that they bring a championship caliber defense every week and because of that no matter who the opponent is they're going to find themselves in all of these games they're just going to be able to hold the the teams the opponent down score-wise I remember uh oh who was that uh he was part of the Jake Cutler trade he went to Denver played for the Bears with an ugly beard Kyle Orton yeah remember him yeah for sure I remember watching an NFL films thing with him and the Bears when he was playing with the Bears and before the game he goes over to Brian eracer and he says to Brian how many points do you need and Brian's like go get me 17 and we'll win and and Orton's like okay I'll give you 17 because they weren't good offensively but but eracer was like we can hold this team to 17 or 16 or less and they more often not went out and did it but that those were the I thought that was a fascinating conversation where eracer is like I need the if you guys can score these many points we'll hold this team to this llacer single ter buttkiss who's the best Ray Lewis of the three Chicago Bears linebackers buckus uher me ER laacer what are you kidding me you're going to that might might be Rey bias but I'm going single ter was my childhood so I don't know I didn't watch any buckets these arguments I was like who can I take in today's game and have the most success butus translates to today's game I think he's a good player but I don't think he's a Hall of Famer if he plays today uh single T would he would and uh eracer certainly would single ter was the standard that's a tough one though man you can't but that's the problem is you can't separate eras I know you can't separate eras they has to you have to take what they did in their era take well I think buus was so dominant buus in his he was of his and if he he's all he's all NFL Hall of Fame name team like we don't call him the human DeTour for nothing folks oh man did you have a thought give me yeah you know give me eracer I'm staying with eracer he was think I think he's Universal I he was fantastic I got call games with himer I did I did with the neck roll and returning kicks and playing safety twice and then we did play the Bears uh my second year we played the oh okay so you saw him in the NFL too yes okay and he was Payton's nightmare yeah y he was everybody's night there were there were a couple guys that pton had a hard time Ed Reed was another one he had a hard time getting getting over on yeah the guy that I saw do the most damage to him was tyw Ty La yeah the Patriot y CA some fits anyway hands and Scotty 2 o'clock straight up we're live here at the Macy's in Providence Utah just outside of Logan where are we at right now Hans Providence Utah Utah Macy's near Logan but in Providence and Frank had a hard time finding it based off of the direction the instructions that we've given him yeah that Lloyd gave me and the instruction you gave me was Lloyd said Logan and then you followed up with a very clarifying message of Logan Utah thank you hands and Scotty come on by we're giving away tickets you want to go see Utah Utah State we'll give away a pair at the end of the show all you have to do is come on by scan the QR code look you all have phones just type in Macy's Providence and it'll take you right here hands in Scotty this 975 the KSL Sports Zone your home for the best college football coverage in Utah is on the KSL Sports s ready the agies welcome in the UTS for a battle in Maverick Stadium in Logan catch all the play-by-play action of the Utes and agies right here on 975 the KSL Sports Zone this is H sson and Scotty gen presented by Mountainland Supply on 975 the KSL Sports Zone all right who knew we might get breaking news from Dion Sanders Oh I thought you said Bernie Sanders oh Bernie's wait in on Twitter as well Bernie Sanders said he hopes that cam Rising will support his I already got us in trouble once this week got yelled out by Lloyd or well uh by the way you're supposed to be at the zoom meeting this weekend in regards to what what what happened with Scotty Scotty you can't do you make one dog joke and Cat joke and people get really upset anyway well people in Ohio my goodness anyway any Deion Sanders just tweeted out seven minutes ago praying for cam Rising God bless you your family and team you're an awesome resilient young man and then he hashtags himself hashtag coach Prime did he have a picture of his toe so no he did not um I don't like this at all that toe was disgusting Prime's toe was terrible I don't like this at all what is that supposed to mean you don't you don't send a tweet like that if you're hearing that it's a lacerated finger and look coach Prime is doing this because of whatever he's dealt with we we talked there was rumors swirling out there we talked about in our very first segment together MH there's more rumors about this than there is anything why is coach Prime tweeting this and what and maybe he's just on Twitter and seeing some of the rumors and like oh he has he been has he been on with talking with Utah's medical staff well who I'm sure have been you know managing that wound effectively I don't know this a weird situation there I'm never at a loss for words ever I've always got something to say this one has got me flat out stumped that another coach in the Big 12 who's dealt with infection and has lost part of his foot because of infection and is probably seeing the rumors that are swirling would dare put out a tweet regarding an opposing quarterback's hand that is rumored to maybe have an infection in it there is not a chance in hell if he respects Kyle Whittingham one iota there's not a chance in hell he sends out that tweet without verifying that information what and no no no no if so you're gonna say coach Prime has zero respect for KY Whittingham Maybe not maybe not maybe coach Prime is coach Prime why would I didn't I didn't say that at all I am are you saying that he called coach Whittingham to verify that there is no way he sends that tweet out what do you mean coach un is a wild card he's a wild card and maybe he's just trying to drum up some business business for Affleck who knows well you know that's the insurance that pays when your insurance doesn't pay um right I mean so he's just drumming up some business so again there is a reply that says I mean can we read these yeah there's a lot of people out there that just feel like Dion got fooled by a bad twitter account yeah and and it is a fake Twitter account that went out there and said that it's a fake account they just surprised me that Dion would see a fake Twitter account and be like oh yeah oh he's got his he got a hand issue you know it's like yes you think that he no way I I hope not look I mean well I don't know I guess I hope he did hold on yeah this will completely reestablish my thoughts about Deion Sanders what were they pre what were they prior to this that at least I have some respect for his level of intelligence I I like I feel like he's calculated I I feel like he's cold and calculated but if he is going off of Willie foosball listen I I think I mean I I hear that's the name of the account Willie foosball I hear what you're say who tweeted out Pur sources close to Utah football laceration blah blah blah yeah yeah and so but but coach coach Prime I mean maybe maybe coach Prime is trolling coach Prime is trolling peopleon Sanders gets duped by Willie football I'm just telling you right now but there was there's been there was there were two others that I've seen so it's it it's that account and then it's actually a fox affiliate personality that put it out yesterday night or this morning I saw it probably like whenever you texted me this morning what time did you text me 6 a.m 6 amm yeah so it's probably right around 5:50 a.m. I saw it I was like who's this idiot talking about cam rising's hand and potential like and I looked and he had like 8,000 followers and he had like Fox Sports or something his name blue check but guess what I didn't do sent out a tweet that said prayers up to cam rising and and his current situation I've got a lot of respect for that I'm going to say that coach Prime is trolling the troll you know what I'm saying yeah I coach prime prime is trolling The Troll And even if he's not he's not trolling the troll even if he's not I'll say this what a nice thought of Coach Prime how thoughtful of Coach Prime that's what I would say about it how thoughtful maybe he's like I heard that young man got three or four stitches in his hand and I feel for him as a man who's had some Cuts in my past I would like to give him my who had several toes I am taken me before their time not unlike ran Gardner I sympathize this with this because I I rode in the loota race last weekend and through Star Valley which is the home of rouan Gardner I paid tribute is it well marked I unclipped and I held one foot in the air in tribute to his missing toes and ped with one foot for with one foot for 75 miles gave up 15 positions in the loja God was that just an opportunity for you to say you pedal in the loja no I mean I didn't win but we came in third well that's not bad did you really guys Deion Sanders is this about as true as Willie foosballs report no I'm I'm hoping coach Prime will congratulate me on a third place finish is this category another butter ball report I cannot believe that Deion Sanders would just tweet this guys honestly let's all joking aside let's think about this rationally yes he coaches in the same conference as Kyle Whittingham it's not like he's just a former neller Hall of Famer sitting in a couch somewhere taking in a little bit of football he is currently a head coach in a at a big 12 program that at some point is going to be seeing this Utah team he does not tweet up prayers up to cam r but what is the based off of a report that he saw from what was the name of the Willie foosball Willie foosball I just like AR you say okay so so but and you're what are you implying he knows something you're you're implying that that coach Prime knows something because it would be Reckless oh damaging to to to tweet something like that think of it this way let's just put it let's let's flip-flop rolls Kyle Winningham sends out a tweet that says prayers up to shador Sanders after shador left the game early and and Kyle Whittingham sends out a tweet that says prayers after rumors start circulating prayers up to shador Sanders okay so is it is it because he knows he's going to be out this week maybe how is he going to verify how is coach Prime going to verify that who's he going to talk to C doctors is he going to talk to coach Whittingham and if he does talk to coach Whittingham or the doctors and then he tweets that what um an abuse of trust you can't tweet that I would say I am along I am more along the lines of this was a a mistake if not true by coach Prime like he just saw a report or someone told him see that's what I was going to say I think maybe shador or maybe an assistant coach goes hey Co coach have you heard about cam heard about Cam and the no man what's up and he's like no dude he he's got tenis he's out like eight weeks he's like well that's what got my toes I feel horrible about that and so he's like you know what prayers up to Dion or to cising I think that too guys if that's the truth if that's what happened I I'm just telling you right now I have lost all respect for that man I mean I'm Holding On by whisker because of his entertainment value and his history as a as a football player but if that's what he's riding on and he sent that that is so damaging it is so reckless it is so irresponsible it is so disturbing I mean I mean I retweeted I actually took down my retweet I did too I just deleted mine as well because I'm like you know I I don't want any part of that you retweeted what coach Prime yeah I did too yeah with that pug dog that looks around his should did too and I deleted it because I don't want any part in this I don't know what's going to happen with the story but I kind of love the direction it's going I kind I kind of loved the entertainment value of all of this okay and the speculation of either coach Prime innocently sent out uh well-wishes to a fellow competitor in the Big 12 or new no know something somehow that has not been confir by anybody else and Scot let me ask you this I want to ask you both this theyby betraying the trust of the coaching fraternity do you send out a well-wishing tweet for somebody that's out for a week no absolutely not do you send out a well-wishers for do you even send out a well wish of tweet for somebody that's in your conference that will that has the chance to come back doesn't say he's out for a week the troll says he's out for six to eight weeks and if that's information that coach Prime is getting then that's why he would send out the tweet I can't imagine that he called coach Whittingham and said hey coach and and and then coach said and then coach said well okay so you make a good point because he is such an enormous personality coach Prime that he could get somebody on the staff who's like oh yeah I'm talking to coach Prime wow I'm going to give him you know we're going to Kum Baya we're going to become buddies like this is my guy I'm going to give him some information okay that I guess there's a scenario where that could happen but he's never going to get that information from coach Whittingham he's never going to get that information from someone on the I mean you would have to go so many levels deep it's like Kevin Bacon calling his friend's doctor who knows the team doctor at the U and and then that doctor gives them all the information I mean that's the implication that you have that coach Prime knows with certainty that there's an infection in cam rising's finger that will keep him out for several weeks I can't explain it any other way to send that tweet out without that knowledge this is Scotty am am I way off here I think all of a sudden I'm starting to realize that maybe we've all given the intelligence of Deion Sanders too much too much credit is that where we are I think so I absolutely think so you he that dumb that he would send a tweet I I apparently so based off of a guy by the name of pinball Willie foosball I'll say it as many times you want me to say I got he's not a pinball wizard it's not Elton John it's a foosball that wasn't Elton John oh my gosh didn't he wasn't he in that thing Pinball Wizard Oh I thought he meant the the song Oh guys I absolutely cannot believe what's happening right now I know I love it this tweet I love it I love that this is happening this tweet has derailed me to the point where I can't even think straight and I'll tell you why if you think for five seconds Kyle Whittingham hasn't already heard about this he's already heard about it Kyle Winningham knew that Scotty and I were gambling on his all right okay now it took him a minute it took him a bit but yeah but that tells you it was a very irrelevant thing for him to know yeah Kyle Winningham will know that Deion Sanders tweeted this about cam Rising probably before we even saw this thinging tweet and if that's the case I would suspect that Kyle Whittingham would pick up the phone and say coach Prime this is in this is not accurate information and you should probably delete that TW no if I'm K like hey you know what prime not only y out 68 weeks we don't know if he's going to make it like it's really bad you might want to tweet that too yeah send that out but don't you know just say sources close to the situation I'm telling you when when Whittingham calls coach Prime and Coach Prime's like hey I saw Dr pingpong ball he uh he tweeted that and you know he's very rarely wrong what the what's gonna kill somebody it was probably the assistant coach that Trevor Riley knocked out oh man dude's dealing with some head trauma you think he cracked Prime's Twitter code yeah and he grabbed coach Prime's Twitter availability that out there remember when who had the FI by the way people are ripping on us for believing Deon Sanders I I'm not going to take any fault in this like if I retweeted Willie foosball then yeah come at me but I'm not going to take any heat whatsoever for seeing a tweet from Deion Sanders and retweeting it not a chance no not a chance no you want to come at me do whatever I don't care but do you think this is an inside but I have no regrets after looking and not knowing about this Willie foosball until five minutes ago has he deleted it yet Willie foosball wiie fball no but Willie foosball I think Willie foosball responded to Dion did is that isn't that right yeah check out Willie foosball it's WF right cfp analyst or something yeah cfp analyst oh he said I'm in my TV room giggling to myself Dion did no no foosball foosball let's see I always new for those wondering coach Prime here's okay hold on so this you fanatic tweeted at coach Prime and said for those wondering coach Prime here saw a troll post and didn't know that it was a troll cam is fine Dr foosball says no he's not Dr foosball now he's Dr F fanatic says I bet you are just on cloud n right now aren't you LOL and Dr foosball says I'm in my TV room giggling to myself when did he get his doctor it I me when did that happen the last s last night oh very good Holiday Express what a weird weird world world I I love this is happening I love that this is happening look at this though look at this coach Prime actually sent a tweet out saying praying for cam Rising you don't do that if it's a week you don't do that off coach or Dr foosball I think you're giving coach Prime like coach Prime does he's got two million followers there's no way that coach Prime is picking up the phone and calling anybody to verify cam rising's rumored infection in his finger there's no way he got information from somebody he tweeted it out and if you take it like that I'm I'm just saying well you know that was very thought full of Coach Prime he just didn't have all the information that of course that's on Coach Prime yeah but the whole situation is very entertaining yeah and and I mean I just hope it's that I hope it's just becomes very entertaining now what if Willie foosball is the one that breaks the story though oh jeez because I remember um I remember all of us assuming Urban Meyer was going to go to Notre Dame and there was this website called he decided he couldn't win national there's this webs website called gatorcountry.com who said that Urban Meyer is going to Florida the first one to report that Urban Meer was going to Florida from the University of Utah and we spent me and Ryan hatch spent a good hour on the air making fun of Gator country.com and all of a sudden Gator and look I'm not saying Willie fb's right I'm not saying the hands of I'm not I'm not obviously it's not it's not maybe Willie foosball is Kevin Durant's fake account oh there you go you know what I'm saying oh yeah Scotty okay I I got to come to a final conclusion on this I got to cuz I got to be I got to move on Scotty am I this has hands I have not not this is so careless grips of this is so careless you know it really is I mean he's a head coach in the Big 12 in the Big 12 what do you play in or Ms brother like this is the Big 12 okay let let let me say Let Let me let me say this would coach Sabin ever tweet anything like that no no would Deon Sanders ever tweet anything like that yes like that's the difference that's the difference and Coach sain may be on the phone with Coach Prime right now or they're filming a commercial right now and he's saying hey coach maybe next time you know verify do some followup check it out but don't just send out a tweet like that guys and Coach Prime is saying coach I just care for the kid like I care and and I'm I'm aligned with that like even if he's out for a week I wanted to send that's what I'm going to Tweet right now coach Prime cares that's all I'm going to Tweet well is it called tweeting still I still do yeah what I'm going to do I'm going to move my emotions over to Scotty theory that he's a yeah that we have overestimated yep his level of intelligence and he just sent out a tweet I'm not going there that is jam-packed with stupidity and careless I'm I'm not going there I don't think I don't think that about Coach Prime you don't think he's a no but okay but what does this benefit let's just say cam Rising is out for eight weeks what does this benefit what and then all of a sudden he's out for eight weeks and everybody's like coach Prime boy you were on it what an Insider you are boy coach Prime way to be out in front of that you knew it and we didn't maybe coach Prime maybe your prayers were part of why he came back when he did come back you know what my hopeful you know what my hopeful thing is that my My Hope in this all in all of this is that coach Prime is trolling The Troll he's not doing that but I just said it's my hope yeah we just a really funny one it's your hope but not your belief yeah it's my hope but not CL Tweets in cam rising's finger is unsalvageable that's funny is theil that's funny all right hands and Scotty 975 the KSL not say doctor in front of his deal no okay you can put whatever name you want on there but I guarantee you Willie foosball is not a doctor it's foosball oh okay he's not yeah there's no doctor on it okay foosball this is Foos Ball's 15 minutes right oh he got more than 15 from us all right 229 hen Scotty this is 975 the ekl Sports Zone this is Jake Scott and Ben Anderson coach bear the Utah Hockey Club Clayton Keller 26 years old how much room for growth is there still at that point in your hockey career that's one thing I like about Kels he has that philosophy of every day he's trying to be better he has a day off for his energy he will do something else he will read a book and he will watch a documentary or something who will make him better who will make him grow so I like that philosophy and you talk about our identity as a team that's what we want we want to be hungry to be better every day no matter what happened yesterday we lost 61 there's nothing we can do about that we won 92 nothing we can do about it that's in the past now what can we do today to be better to go towards our goal to be a championship team here Jake Scott and Ben Anderson every day from 10 to no KSL Sport Zone it's your youth preview Show featuring Frank Dolce what I don't understand why we have the BYU update in the middle because we do it we do it every 30 past the hour all day long it but that doesn't make sense and at least you put on a former Utah coach by the way I heard pairs up to LJ Martin I heard his toe is infected pairs up LJ Martin yeah LJ's like where's my tweet it's like I'm in the Big 12 that's what I'm saying though like you're gonna have to start sending Tweets for everybody yeah well he are you making your own I yeah but I'm doing it with the you guys the cottage cheese yeah that's good do you need some there's some granola in there too yeah I'll probably hit it with that do you want to use my spoon no I I no I'll probably just use my tongue or do uh just lavel it what did L what was L somebody brought an apple pie out and and we were in the segment all coach had to do was just wait no you're not waiting with apple pie just wait n and and he could not wait so he turned his hand into a shovel and just would used his hands and got into it got into it that way well listen that's why he was so endearing how how why why is it let me ask you this this is so Edwards you know BYU icon yes okay why is it endearing for him to take down an apple pie with his hand and it's not endearing for another Utah icon Rick Majerus to shove a pizza down his face during a broadcast I fat shaming it's got to be it's the way one looks compared to the other I mean Rick shouldn't have been doing it LV can this is what I'm saying LV had that room and let's let's be honest LEL actually treated people with a certain level of decency no but nobody was waiting to attack LEL based off of what he'd said or done in the past full defense of Coach Majerus he treated me I was a student at the U when he was coaching the basketball he could not have treated me better y sure I mean I do want to give the other side of because there are plenty of things about Coach Majerus that were unappealing and but I will say that he could not have been more kind to me personally yeah uh let's get oh Britton Johnson's on line four he's got some storms I've T I've spoken with Brit Brit I've spoken with all the Johnson kids about yeah they got some stuff all right so and the the Kens too so let's talk about uh let's talk about this game against Utah State it's a game that Utah and you know look let's look at the Vegas line and look at the reality of it Utah should probably win so I don't treat this like a southern Utah game but also it's a game that um with Isaac Wilson in there do you just use this as an opportunity to really establish your run game or what are you what are you what are you trying what are your objectives in this game for I mean obviously winning one but yeah so so I think you make a mistake if you significantly alter your identity g game week to game we like you have you still have to be who you are and and then the the hope is that offensively you you're productive enough that you can you can back off a little bit or give other people an opportunity so I would say Utah goes out you know full force open the Playbook as much as they can with Isaac Wilson and and I think they do need just work on some things establishing the running game getting wide receivers more involved in the game plan if you have that opportunity and try to be productive as productive as possible on the offensive side I think I I mean I don't think you can go in there and say hey it's Utah State they got beaten by 48 points at the at the at the Coliseum and and we're going to come in here we have a great defense and so we're just going to try and figure out a way to get by you I don't think you can approach it with that philosophy and I don't think coach Whittingham will well you were up there in 2012 when Utah came in as heavy favorites I know and happen Chucky Keaton led the upset Victory what was the build up today I can't even remember was the buildup to that did Utah state had a shot in that not really um and uh but Utah State we knew had a pretty good team and Utah came in with all kinds of high expectations because remember they won nine games their first year this was year two in the Pack 12 this was year one of the five and seven seasons and so but they came in with a lot of uh a lot of high expectations and then that quickly went away that was a rough one well look look what happened to Notre Dame oh yeah a week ago y I mean look at how Oregon has Oregon is since talented as anybody look how they're playing right now yeah so to to to overlook a team like Utah State and a rivalry game in in Logan and all of the things would be an enormous mistake Frank Frank I'm listening to oh would a poor performance by Isaac Wilson lose him the number two spot I have an answer a poor performance by Isaac Wilson and and a strong performance by Rose no just they leave Isaac in yeah and and you saw wins by 13 they win by 13 but no I don't he puts up 32 defense has one score and he's got good field position the thing that would the thing that would take away Isaac spot is if he Utah wins by 713 you know a a kind of a nailbiter kind of win and Isaac throws three and interceptions I will say if it's like the Baylor game and Bryson Barnes gets taken out and it's a close game and Brandon Rose comes in and leads the victory yeah then yeah definitely yeah that that's so I'm I don't necessarily think by the way the B game last year yeah I don't think a PO performance takes Isaac out of the starting spot necessarily I I would say have to be number two spot because I think we all anticipate outside of Deion Sanders and Willie foosball that that Cam's I'm in for this week but but I don't think you could remove Isaac's position right now unless someone behind him demonstrates significant significantly more in the game and I I I I mean I I'm guessing the game plan is to get Rose some snaps as well oh you think so I would think so well are you speaking out of a lead or are you speaking out of of some scheme rotation no I don't think of rotation just being in a being a good Brandon you get the first offensive possession in the second quarter you can't you can't like you can't go through a season without having two guys ready behind cam Rising he's already in week two demonstrated the inability to stay healthy like and what are the chances that he's going to get injured again well and you've already had high right right and in the first two games you've already had a chance to get him on the field for a lot of snaps and now you've got a chance to put him on the field for a lot of snaps but that's my point that I'm trying to make with that coveted number two spot behind cam Rising who seems to struggle to stay on the field is and and Scotty and I talked about this man I'm not going to be able to just chalk this up to well cam Rising was injured so there's the reason why they didn't make it to the Big 12 championship game it's just such a talented team if you can't at least put an organizer behind Center that can organize my offense and get a couple of things going then to me it's a you can't waste this by saying we're going to build Isaac Wilson if you've got somebody that can manage it better oh I I agree but do that I think that's the issue is they don't know that they have someone who can manage it better I think they feel like there's such such an upside with Isaac Wilson that you have to develop him as quickly as possible final segment coming up next hands and Scotty will'll wrap this bad boy up get you ready for JJ and Alex Straight Ahead 975 the KSL Sports Zone your home for the best college football coverage in Utah is on the KSL Sports Zone Kanani sataki and Centric pregame show on 975 you'll get the Aggie broadcast including our Aggie pregame that'll begin at 1:30 as well on 1280 a.m. so whatever side you're on on this rivalry will have dual coverage for you coming up this weekend right here on the Zone did you Frank when you played in this game yes uh did you I mean obviously the BYU game is at a different level but did you feel anything different when it was Utah State week at all oh yeah yeah I I loved this football game I thought it was complet there was a completely different atmosphere about playing playing Utah State my first year we played him at Rice Stadium the second year we played up here in Logan and it's it's there is definitely a different feeling playing in that football game as a rival no doubt yeah you know the guys you're across from man that there's no love lost you know all the rumors and all the happenings and you know what they've said in the past or what they think or what they feel and there's just so much what kind of treatment did you get horrible but but but Justified it's fine like I'm all about it it's it's great and I I can't even sit here and say that I played well in the face of adversity I mean I I feel like sending a tweet that says prayers up and for the for the treatment you received Logan in Logan Utah please don't you're a great kid and I wish you a speedy you have a resilient family you have a resent family yeah I still in shock that this has actually happened and he's left it up Utah is an 18 and a half Point favorite wait I thought it I thought you said it was oh no no that was 18 and a half 18 and a half and and Vegas knows they have to know that cam Rising is not starting so they're just not giving a lot of they're just not giving a lot of credit to Utah State let me ask you a question I feel really good for Utah State if they kept it in that number that would be great you're your your you're the broadcaster your thoughts on this Utah State football team in terms of talent ability and coming together this is I mean these are crazy circumstances for the agies with the coaching and the administrative difficulties and all the stuff but tell me about the football team they're a much better team this year than they were last year um and offensively I think they have a chance to be really good you've seen jayen Royals um and uh I think uh I think Bryson Barnes can spin it a little bit I think he can certainly I don't know offensively they'll be better offensively in this game just because they're at home I just think they'll they'll show better offensively than they did last week now is that worth 14 points I don't know um but I do think defensively I know they gave up 48 points defensively they are a little bit better they came out with a three-man front because they were really worried about the passing attack of USC and so USC just ran the ball down their throat and Lincoln Riley's like all right you're going to show me that then I'm just going to run it and and Utah State couldn't stop it and then they tried to put four in the you know five in the box and then it just got out of hand at that point so I think Utah state will come in with a different game plan to try to slow down the run and force Ike Wilson to beat them and uh I think Utah is going to uh I mean look Utah will score some points but they're not putting 48 up on the board like USC did and I think Utah state will score a little bit I think it's uh 351 game around there somewhere around there Frank does Bryson Barnes at Utah State does that give Utah State a nice advantage or is that a where he' played at Utah or is that a disadvantage where Utah knows him I think there's a little there's probably a little of both like there there is certainly uh a little chip on the shoulder of Bryson Barnes and wanting to prove what what he's capable of and I think like I think Bryson Barnes brings a different element to the Utah State offense I got to see both quarterbacks play and I I just think the ability to scramble the grit a little bit of the athleticism moving around the pocket that that can be difficult for teams to manage and he doesn't look like a guy that's going to be super athletic and all of a sudden you know he what was that 628 y yeah 68 yard touchdown run he outran the defense for Robert Morris so got has he trimmed down a little bit yeah yeah he has he he looks good he looks fit um I mean he's I would say he's not an elite thrower of the football he's not Elite that's fair but he's good enough he's above average he'll keep a defense honest and and then with the ability to to run around and and make people chase him around he just brings a different element to the game and the guy's just like he's just just a winner he's a he's just a like you know like I'm trying to remember who is that text major Apple White that just you know he doesn't had a lot of skill set but boy he just bust his butt he ma yeah he that's exactly right his work rate is better than anybody else's he believes in himself yeah yeah confidence is not an issue with he'll make a play and he'll do something that you think well how did he do that so I I really I you know I I really think he brings a a a nice element to the Utah State offense that keeps a defense off balance uh Frank thank you for the aai bowl I'm going to put on some Tas hike a
