14 kicks off with a potential great Cup match up fresh off a monster win in Victoria the lions are in Montreal to face the well-rested defending Champions the fans are ready the panels ready it's Friday Night Football on [Music] TSN it's to the C game we party and we're ready for fight come on Kick relax watch Fray fo fo [Music] William please stand back is back in the place where it all started he spent Five Seasons with the aletes and created some great memories but the only memory he's trying to create tonight is these BC Lions walking away with a victory Tyrese beverett leads the cfl's top defense into this Key West battle and he's playing as well as any player in the league 21 for 30 325 yds and three TDS Nathan BR has been impressive last week we're GNA see if he can duplicate himself tonight and pull off the dbby The W sticking with the QBs in his return from injury in week 12 he was impressive 336 a pair of TDS helping the aletes to their 10th win of the Season even with a carousel of receivers this season Cody vardo still putting up those mop numbers speaking of that Carousel no Austin Mac heard in practice he's officially on the six game but that's okay we'll fire up return of the Mac when he comes back and I'm back with the Enoch MAA Jim Barker Milt stagel as we get set for a heavyweight B on Friday Night Football we'll get the panel's thoughts in just a moment but first let us go to Montreal and join our Kenzie lone and Kenzie I sat down with William stanback before the start of this season and one of the words that kept coming up was respect and he wanted to be with the team that respected him after the aletes didn't even make him an offer you know he's going to be running angry tonight Five Seasons Kate William sandback called Montreal home for Five Seasons he surpassed 1,000 yards on two occasions and so here he is back but with the BC lines and when I asked him this week just about those emotions and what is he feeling he kind of just said bittersweet because yeah it didn't end on his ideal terms but Kate I could see in his eyes just that energy and that excitement and goodness he wants to win you can see that grit in his eyes and he will be dialed in for this game because it'll mean more to him and you look at the BC Lions and it is a short week for them so they'll need that energy they'll need that excitement to take on what will be their greatest test yet in the Montreal aloette who of course come off a bu we can have that rest and here we are talking about playoffs they have already punched their ticket to a playoff game and this this has that playoff energy a lot of it because another G another sellout crowd here at pral Moston Stadium on Wednesday at around 3 p.m. over 22,000 tickets had been sold and then on Friday yesterday they announced they are sold out so this crowd is going to be electric a lot of story Lin Kate were in for a good one should be a fantastic one Kenzie and you know what too we were talking about this before he went to air how great is it to see these crowds I mean we had three out of four cellout crowds on the weekend and now to be sold out in Montreal I mean you look at the ticket sales too for the Elks right now I mean this is great for the league but let's go back to this game and let's go back to Nathan roor so he was Sensational in Victoria that's the best we've seen him since he's come back in the CFL but now he gets the alloet defense the best defense in the CFL and he gets the sold out crowd and let's face it all those horns as well this is going to be a tough night for Nathan absolutely it's going to be a tough night for him the best defense in the league right now riding on a 10 and one uh season right now he has a large challenge ahead of him but this is something that he can overcome he is capable of getting the ball getting it out of his hands at a fast pace because he can he can identify defenses and get rid of the ball really quickly that is what he's going to have to rely on because he has the weapons around him including a good a great running back behind beside him that is playing top of the league right now well if the Lions want to get to the Great cup which they're hosting it it's crucial to them they need to be able to win a game like this this is a huge ball game for them coming in here they're tied for the lead in the in the west with Winnipeg both six and six but to go come in here to Montreal that's 10 and one and be able to get a win would go a long way towards selling their locker room that they're ready now they've got some things to overcome I know you guys always give me trouble about the offensive no we don't we love it but we've got two brand new offensive linemen on that offensive line um David Neville who has been mostly an inside interior player and Cory Woodruff who I've never heard of and I you know me you know these guys if you never heard of them there's a problem so they got they got a guard and tackle that are brand new on the left side of the line that's going to be a challenge for Nathan roor and I think because of those new offensive line are going to have to establish to run and you know William standback is loving that let's be honest and he won't come out and say this publicly this is personal for William standback and it's not personal against the players for the allets it's personal against Jason Moss it's personal against Danny Macho they didn't even offer him a contract he played five years that had great five years the last time he stepped on the field as alette he helped him win the gray cup and you don't offer him a contract this guy is going to come out and try to destroy him yes it's going to be against those players but this is personals against Danny Macha and Jason Moss well and he even said too he knew that his contract would have to be less than it was he was the highest paid back he was making 160k last year but not to even give him an offer let's talk about the receiving Corp for just a minute here too and I said it off the top they've done a really nice job with this Carousel of receivers but now no Austin Mack I mean they're still lacking depth at the position you think Cody has any issue with this tonight melts not without a doubt I mean Austin Mack has played one game phield pot has been hurt like what two or three games Grant he's been hurt like five or six games those guys yeah sne they they they St whoever steps in they just grant you just go down the list they just seem to have confidence where they can step in and they don't miss a beat but yeah give Danny Macha and that Personnel staff a ton of credit because they lose guys and guys step in Charleston Rambo steps in he he becomes a star absolutely and Coach it's a credit to the coaching staff it's a credit to the system that they established over there because it doesn't matter who comes in you are filling in and you know your job and executing on a high level so kudos to these guys but this is also a huge challenge for them cuz I'll tell you what Nathan Rook is coming and he wants to he's going to put up some points and so Cody Fardo is going to have to also put up some points in order to contend you know what makes you think who has the advantage in this one too I Montreal got to sit back on Labor Day weekend and watch all these teams play that's fine but at the same time I mean it's it's for the Lions there is so much momentum coming up that touchdown Pacific game but you know what this is going to be a fascinating one to say the least as we said it's going to be a to at persal Molson stadium and you know what the fans they still love standback they know what he did for those five years helping him win a great cop wonder if anyone picks standback in their anytime touchdown scores and they have the Montreal all credit to them they're the best team in the league right now they've shown it they're great on defense Mar he's getting it started in week one with an interception in the end zone up in yeah intercepted it's ring fumble and it's on the ground Darnell sanki on it andq down the sideline Tyrese beverett intercepted anytime we had the bur we know we got to defend it and that's what we came out of dat it all right let's take a look at the five most popular anytime touchdown props for tonight's game at FanDuel we start with the PA Lions as William stanback and Justin McKinnis are the most popular bets to score a touch down Montreal's Charleston Rambo the alloet defense and Walter Fletcher rounding out the top five picks we haven't done this in a while let's take a look at the leaderboard we're all looking to chz who is currently at the top with 27.6 units the good news is he's off tonight so we get a chance to gain a little ground how like how do I end up in last I am here the most I don't this does even I the scoring just seems so ridiculous in this game to me I had like three I don't even want to who did you take Enoch I went with the League's leading receiver 1,026 yards and he's been a little bit cool the last few weeks this is his game to get back up Nathan RoR you know who to look for Justin mckinness well i' I I'm second to last and i' I've won like four a row it's like you win I'm totally with you just I don't get this is ridiculous okay you guys sold mine I took it earlier before you but you guys sold it did you give a guy a no contract offer and now he get his only time back there you don't think that guy's going to get in the end zone I always go when it comes to players contract comes first I like it I like the I like the I'm going with the BC lion also Keon Hatcher senior and this is his sixth game his first five games you can slowly see him getting back uh into the Rhythm last week he had his best game to date three catch for 71 yards the only anything he hadn't done is score a touchdown that's going to happen tonight I'm protesting I'm not making a pick I'm not making a pick until I find out this scoring system works well chz is using his NFL picks too I think this is just ABS I'm just kidding I'm taking leer and mainly you know what I'm taking leer because I just want to say Hannibal lecher but if I really had to pick I'd be taking William stand back tonight I'm with you there's no doubt in my mind he's getting into Pay Dirt all right so last week we had a clean sweep with our anytime TD picks from the liance game Milt Enoch jym all banking on another big performance from BC I've got James leer Junior at 5 to1 odds that's a big move up the board for yours truly if lecher can find the end zone I think I don't really know how this works as I said welcome to Victoria for the first time in CFL history touchdown Lions on the Pacific B returns to the end zone hit as he throws still got a touchdown this down the field hand him in touchdown amart to his left staying on his into the end zone it's McKinnis okay I'm saying it now Nathan Ro is back following a couple of shaky performances Nathan aora compressed in week 13 he scored three of four TDS and threw for 246 of his 325 total yards in the first half against Ottawa last week last Saturday's win against Ottawa marked Ro's first CFL win in 664 total days with more on the Canadian QB here's Paul lapolis [Music] yeah the first two games of the Season kind of look like preseason games for him last week Nathan Ro was down to his old self 70% completion 325 yards three touchdowns but some of the best things that they converted 70% of their uh second down conversion that's an amazing stat what does he do well he processes and sees pictures and makes decisions quickly this is a three-step route really quick throw what's he do immediately he reads the outside player if that player exp uh stays inside you throw it to the back if he expands like he does you throw the ball immediately get the ball in the receiver's hands he's so good at these quick throws but his decision making process happens so fast watch this 1 two 3 4 five he goes all the way back to his fifth read as the protection breaks down he knows where William standback is Williams stand back gets north south to be able to uh get big yardage you want to give it to a ball player but he had a couple of explosive plays understanding seeing the free safety play to the boundary what's he do they have a corner back to a post a double move down field it's able to move the halfback out of the way and he takes a shot downfield like I said he had three explosive plays last week when you go to the end zone watch his eyes he is looking to the boundary taking a die telling him hey you stay on this dig the whole time he knows he's going to flip his hips and throw it up to M uh Justin McKinnis on this play the guy who is going to have a the guy who's going to have a a what do I say like going to uh flourish with this opportunity is William stck as he starts checking it down to other receivers he's going to make sure like last week William stach was the leading receiver on this football team so they're going to continue to check down because he processes so fast now Montreal's defense they're going to try to disguise a lot of things they show uh linebackers up the lineon scrimmage drop them out he's going to have have to have his eyes right and find the holes in this zone defense but they're going to try to distract him as much as they can looking forward to calling the game Kate lapa we are looking forward to a packed house tonight Montreal and look at this when you come to the games How great is the CFL just St just throwing the ball to some of the fans and we've talked a lot about William standback and the game we expect him to have here he is with Kenzie well well it all started here in 2018 5 season with Montreal alloet your first game back just how do you describe your emotions here heading into this one oh I'm excited you know uh I'm eager to get on the field get the ball kicked off ready to run the ball catch the ball block you know I've been with these guys for years man familiar faces you know some new ones in the in the building but you know it's the same guys that I've practicing against every day so you know I can't wait to get after them and really go against them this time you know you talk about that practicing against them you know this defense better than anyone so how will you break through tonight just staying locked in you know what I mean them guys know me I know them you know at the end of the day just got to stop me though you know they going to know what we going to do sometimes it's evident but hey you got to be able to stop it so let's get it appreciate the time thank you I appreciate it that man might score five touchdowns tonight sounds like it did we record that he is dialed in we saw those eyes the minut of that interview came up oh that is [Music] intensity well they were on a by last week Montreal clinching a postseason spot thanks to BC's win over Ottawa first in offensive points allowed second in that offense allowed second and offensive points per game it's a pretty good time to be a aletes fan here's Kenzie once again with Darnell sanki well darell this just feels like a big game faning it feels like a great cup preview just how you know what are you looking forward to most about this match up we're just looking we're just looking to go out there and do our thing perform as a defense as a team and just have fun you know play with the swag we know how to play with defense has done a great job of living explosive plays just how do you maintain that consistency here tonight yeah we just got to play assignment sound football at the end of the day we know what we're about we know we're the top dolls right now we want to stay on top luck thank you I will be the first person to admit that this time last year we did not think the Montreal aletes were gray cup contenders they were under 500 and another team in the East that wears double blue looked Unstoppable but we were wrong and this year there will be no bulletin board material this alet team is special and from what we have seen so far a repeat is more than realistic Dave Naylor has more on their historic run a little more than a year ago the Montreal aletes were a six and seven football team that seemed well every bit like a six and seven football team in fact after losing their fourth straight in mid-september they were in potential danger of missing the CFL playoffs safe to say no one saw an his toric run about to begin but that's exactly what's occurred for the first time in 13 years the L are the 2023 great Cup champion the alet winning their final five regular season games last season plus three playoff games and then opening the 2024 season with a 10- one record for a combined playoffs and regular season of 18- one over their last 19 games that's a mark achieved by no team in the modern era of East versus West CFL playoffs in regular season which dates back to 1961 in fact the aletes are 18-0 in games where their starting quarterback finishes the game their only loss coming in a contest against Toronto earlier this season when quarterback Cody Fardo left before halftime with an injury they tremendous streak of successive victories comes to a close for the Montreal alet now it feels like this aloette run hasn't got the attention it's deserved perhaps because half of Montreal's wins so far this season have been by one score and three have required dramatic comebacks down 15 to Calgary down 13 to Saskatchewan and most recently down 11 before coming back to beat Edmonton into the end zone incomplete and Montreal with a comeback victory will hang on now with proven depth at quarterback in Davis Alexander backing up the jardo and with several key players due to return from injuries this aloette team has a chance not only to repeat as great Cup champions but to extend what is the most successful playoff and regular season stretch in CFL history some impressive stuff by the Montreal aletes and there defense has been a major reason for this 10 and one record and even beyond that when they turned things around last season their D ranks first and points allowed yards allowed per play and big plays allowed Montreal has held opponents to 20 or fewer points in seven of 11 games so far this season and JB I don't think they've ever had a bigger test this season than the Lions offense playing the way they currently are coming off that Victoria game that's true um the whole Montreal defense no Thorp he got his start under Don Matthews and a lot of people don't realize that and I was on that staff and he he's playing the same way everything is from the top down they don't get beef on big plays they lead the league in giving up big plays and the philosophy Dawn always had was teams are not going to continue to run the ball even if they have a few good runs they're not going to continue to run the ball so the the question today is Will Jordan maximi take this upset running back who didn't get an offer from the team and keep feeding in the Rock it's funny you say this upset running back who didn't get offer from the team and the man who didn't give him to offer is their GM Danny Macho I just want to give him a little credit for the fact that this team and every team goes through this they go through injuries they go through suspensions they go through Players departing and that's the big reason why they can't duplicate what these Montreal aletes did but these Montreal alets have gone through it but they've been able to do it and it's Danny Macha find these players you think about Jason Moss and and and Cody Fardo when he left s scat when no one runed them he signed them you think about Davis Alexander no one knew who he was he stepped in uh you think about uh uh all these the receivers M no one know who he was he steing he played well the receivers injuries all this stuff is gone on but players have stepped in and played well because of Danny Macha Danny Macha track record over his career and you understand this coach because you won great cups at a different position he he won a great cup as offensive coordinator a head coach a GM he won on a college level national championship wherever he goes he knows how to win because he knows how to find great players so a lot of credit has to be given to their executive producer AKA their GM for what he's done well he did an amazing job of putting this this team together but specifically like you talked about it coach this defense and they are working together extremely well with the defensive coordinator over there in Montreal you talk about cin Anto who's a guy you talked about it mil we didn't really know about him until last year he's a rangy lanky uh DB who quarterbacks are afraid to throw on his side and you talk about the other side you got ruffing the air is really well controlled with Mar andon D at the middle but you you have you have beverett and you have sanki who in my opinion are the heart and soul of this defense they're extremely uh active on defense and they make a lot of things happen defensively speaking so you you you combine that with the defensive system that brings pressure and is extremely exotic uh it is hard for offensive teams to offenses to come and play in this in this Stadium it is going to be a huge a huge task for the BC Lions to com in Montreal to beat them but this is something that Nathan Ro can possibly handle again like I said they are seventh in the league in rushing defense yeah they're the leading Le team but they're seventh in the league in rushing one CH in the armor they're seventh in the league in yards per rush so a lot of that goes to beverette's a little under siiz he's a great will line he's he's potential player of the year but he's a little undersized Bryce Cosby the guy playing Sam linebacker is one of those guys you talked about that Danny brought in and he's been phenomenal at that position which is the most difficult position to play on defense so to me the question is can they have the patience to run the ball and attack that Montreal defense quick question this team has already clinched to playoff birth do you think there'll be a let down now mentally they would they relax some now this is a game they need to win it's a proving game is it not okay no they need this EAS said than done but you're thinking now we we made it we already clinched the playoff position don't know if they're relaxing in that lock I don't think you relax yeah all I know we'll find out to at me man they not relaxing every sorry I'm still mad about the anytime touchdown [Music] thing keep to the top I keep I get to the top right until I get to the top stop 14 kicks off with a potential gray cup matchup in front of a soldo crowd fresh off a monster win to Victoria the lions are in Montreal to face the well-rested defending Champions it is Friday Night Football on TSN it's Frid Co the see game we all party and ready fight come kick relax [Music] you can't tell me that this man doesn't have a chip on his shoulder after Montreal didn't make him an offer last season five years with the aloette he is finally back we'll see if he can run all over his former team William please stand back and Cody vardo and his return from injury in week 12 he was impressive 336 yards a pair of TDS helping aletes to their 10th win of this season they got to kick back relax and watch Labor Day weekend and clinch a playoff spot in the meantime Caper n alongside Enoch wamba Jim Barker Milt steagle this is a monster matchup for Friday Night Football let's go through some key matchups Enoch I'm looking at that dline in Montreal guys I'm looking at Derek wiggan Dylan W and Mustafa Johnson they're going to be up against a guy who you just talked about him William standback he is going to be hungry tonight and if he gets the rock as much as we expect him to get they're going to be busy tonight well my matchup had Cory Woodruff and David Neville two guys that haven't played Garden tackle blocking for standback and I think against Mustafa Johnson and Dylan win oh my goodness I can't I can't wait to watch the left side of the BC line protect for Nathan roor and open some lanes for standback how is that not an exciting match up offensive L you had never heard of so that has to be a problem how often does that happen that has to well you know what Pittsburgh state rookie you looked him up you got him I got him my my matchup involves William stb back but it involves the man he sees when he looks in the mirror himself my matchup is against William standback against William stanback yes he's having an ultimate year his career year only catching the ball but rushing the ball but also catching the ball and he knows he's going to get opportunities but he has to keep his emotions in check he has to understand that maybe if he's not on early just relax allow the game to come to him if he goes out there and tries to force it that's not going to be good for him but he goes out there and relax keep doing what he's been doing all year he has an opportunity to give it back to the team who didn't offer him a contract hey we're talking a lot about William stand back they're going to have to get a lead so they can hand off the ball by the way this was JB when he didn't know an offensive lineman what what that was you in the Green Room coach that was [Music] you thep get the top I keep the top keep thep that's right the thank you Kate just a beautiful night for football here in Montreal and the first meeting of the Season between the BC Lions and the aloette the lions at 6 and six back to 500 the alet the class of the CFL at 10 and one in fact going back to last year Lao they have won 18 of their last 19 games and a part of the run back then was running back William stanback don't think he's forgotten a part of their great Cup Championship they didn't offer him a contract and you know he's had this game circled on the calendar 3,716 yards in his career here fourth all time for uh for this ow team he still has a lot of friends on this team he talked about it but he's really just focused on helping this team win today I'm sure there's a little bit more to that but you're going to have to face these two players these great linebackers Tyrese bevet leader in the defensive plays in the Canadian Football League with 91 too many stats to Rattle off and the excellent middle linebacker Darnell sanki he tasked to stop them tonight what a calendar year for Jason Moss only one loss since last September the 15th the defending Champions have already clinched a playoff spot for Rick Campell lines they started at 5- one but lost five in a row before bouncing back in a big way against the red blacks last week in touchdown Pacific and the Lions have won the toss and there's Terry Williams they want the ball to get this started expect Nathan roor coming on and William standback 31 against his old Team Jose maltos to Get It Started from the Montreal 30 on a Friday night in September the start of week 14 underway here at Molson Stadium and it's in the hands of Terry Williams now across the 30 and the 35 and the 40 as he gets out close to the 45 yd line Frederick Shena in on the tackle Nathan RoR has progressively gotten better through his first three starts I I said his first two games look kind of like preseason getting getting his feet wet trying to figure out what's happening last week he he was getting the ball out of his hand quickly he took shots downfield and located the downfield throws and he got this offense to convert 70% of the time on second down that's a a great stat when he looks like the guy who showed up a couple years ago just a couple weeks in this into this uh system well they were great in the first half lapo put 31 on the board in the Red Blocks wanted going away and there it is William standback with his first Carry against the Montreal alets picks up three four yards for BC Suk Chung is starting his 137th game his physic C is going to be needed against Mustafa Johnson and William stck as we talked about off the top last week he had 20 rushes 93 yards but he led all receivers in yardage with 78 we'll talk about that tonight going forward how well Nathan throws the check Downs to his big back the left side of that BC offensive line changed interesting to see how it plays out tonight R is throwing in second and six it's caught two by Justin McKinnis who grew grew up in the area and Pierre fonco back and later went to school in the States but he has a first down for BC on that catch throw to the wide side of the field you got a big body run into the sideline that's what you like you like guys who are big because when the ball they had just such a big frame they could reach back for a ball and make catches that aren't perfectly located back to William standback on that first down after a gain of 15 by William stanach how about Montreal's defense Isaac admi berglin he's been a good free agent signing for this football team plays a multiple spots two sacks 17 defensive uh tackles and again once again beverett he leads this team in so many defensive categories he's an amazing football player now another one Bryce Cosby second game at field halfback after filling in at Sam admir for Reggie Stubblefield injured you have a bunch of multiple football players that can play at different spots for this group stand back is a couple of carries for 10 yards second and five from the 41 of BC or Montreal I should say that's Javon Cy catching that from Nathan rook and the drive continues for the Lions another first down Nathan last week just really right from the start as they went out finished the game started 20 it was 316 at half just had good Rhythm could take some of the shots down field but he got the ball out of his hand quickly rod and that's what he's going to need to do tonight against this defense Ro got a shotgun throwing quickly to stand back it's had a great year as a receiver as well picked up 78 yds through the air last week against the red blacks to go along with 93 on the ground great recognition here on the throw out to stand backck in the flat this is a pressure situation what do you do when peam pressure sometimes you release right into it and if they don't cover you've got a nice easy throw he did it last week the first play of the game against Ottawa here he goes he recognizes where the free player is and that William stanach is not covered so great throw and catch there great recognition good opening drive by the Lions who have a second and one at the Montreal 23 first possession of this Friday night meeting in Montreal David Mack short yage a lot more into the end zone for a BC touchdown for the fullback turn short yardage quarterback David Mackey 23 yards for the that touchdown and that's the sixth TD of the season for Macky macky's why is he getting these quarterback sneaks because they don't want Nathan roor to do it what you normally have right here is there supposed to be multiple players on the outside on the perimeter you do these wide sneaks but there's nobody to play contained that's a misalignment by the Montreal defense Macky they've got it called to go to that side and they get hurt because they don't have enough people aligned to the wide side to have contain for that speed sweep oh sorry the quarterback under Center quarterback outside Zone and the point after by Shawn White well David Macky yes he scored touchdowns before usually from somewhere inside the five that's probably the longest touchdown he's ever had in his career Rod you kidding me it's usually two yards for him a much deserved breather coming up for 34 putting the Lions on the board on a Friday night in Montreal 7 nothing BC a six play 66 yd Drive 3 minutes off the clock big throw on the outside nice catch on the sideline getting the ball underneath to ktoy throwing into the blitz to stand back David Mackey a misalignment by the Montreal defense gets him around the defense on the quarterback sneak for the nice touchdown David Macky like we said probably the longest run of his career Rod really good excellent to see that and and that's three straight games for BC scoring a touchdown on their opening possession last week to the red blacks in Victoria and Mackey and William stanback you know badley wants this one up against his old team BC has the seven nothing lead a short kickoff and on the return is lecher who's taken down at around the 25 yd line Cody Farda returned two weeks ago after missing four games because of a hamstring injury and what stands out lapo that completion percentage which is tops in the the CFL it'd be one thing if he just threw the ball short all the time now that's part of what they do but they lead the Canadian football league in big plays and they throw it down field he had last week or during the buy game he had five right before the buy he had five passes over 30 yards and you are five times more likely to score a touchdown when you have an explosive play so you know they they throw it short but then they take their shots and he's been tremendous at that this year last game two weeks ago they had the buy last week 22 of 34 326 two touchdowns one intercepted Cody Fardo six and one as a starter this season takes that one turns around and is running it to the left Edge takes a hit and picks up a couple of yards a second and long coming up here for the allette offense Josh Donovan's going to have a tall task tonight watching him against Matthew Betts seconde player from Arizona and Cole speaker before the bye in their game against Himi had five catches 107 yards two touchdowns all in the third quarter for the third-year player from Wisconsin lacrosse division 3 football as you know I love my division near and dear to you they played last night they uh they blew out RPI so I saw that a little bit in the stats today for all those division three fans want to know what's happening RPI one of your old schools one of my old SCH second and seven now the Montreal 28 alet in an early hole throwing and completing it to Cole speaker well that big game lapo talked about a couple of weeks ago against the Evans and Alex when he had two touchdowns in that Montreal victory really good when you just throw the good things happen when you throw the ball into the flats to guys who can make people Miss Cody quickly makes a decision the ball comes out of his hand TJ leaves there can't make the tackle and that puts them in a situation where they're in third and one so now you can get the check down so some of these long yarded situations hey get yourself to a third and one so we can go ahead and get the yardage but Cole speaker we had a talk with him this week great great kid great individual really enjoyed our conversations with Dominic Davis in for short yardage he rejoined the alet a former BC line had been with the Lions last year and returned to Montreal where he had been and had a lot of success in short yardage picking up the first down Matthew bets gets the play in front of friends and family tonight and try to keep his 19 straight games with a sack he probably has 19 tickets bought too also TJ Lee moves to Sam linebacker first time and he had nine career tackle career high nine tackles last week at the strong side linebacker and Gary Peters second in the CFL with nine pass knockdowns watching him all game tonight so they get the first for Jero back on and yes watch for Matthew Betts from Montreal star at Laval and then later with star with BC returning to the Lions first game was last week on that running play and a gain of about three or four and that would be it for the alox they started slow against Ed Edon but eventually they kind of Edmonton was running the football well but then Cody got on fire he had this is all from the third quarter right they stormed back it they went on a 15 nothing run in the second half to win 217 they were down 17 to6 some spectacular throws by Cody and was really Catalyst to that successful come back from behind one well they've had some close victories that one a four-point win coming back as you tat and second down and is caught by Reggie White and a first down as this Alouette Drive continues up near [Applause] Midfield clear out clear out and then out in the flat that's what the picture is they're playing man coverage so TJ Le's inside position you just run away to the sideline beautiful location the uh the BC lines are trying to play Man coverage with two deep safeties TJ Lee just gets inside position Reggie White really good push to be able to get to the sideline and a great throw to the wide side of the field gain of 17 yards for Reggie White in his fourth year out of Monmouth actually crossed to the Midfield stripe and gets it in the lion Zone at the BC 53 7even nothing Lions alet first possession Fardo fourman Rush Runs Out of Time down he goes go two as he is sacked and it is Christian Covington with four sacks that's number five on the season for the son of the all-time Sachs leader in the CFL the history of the game of course Grover Covington but Christian with another side on the inside you'll see him twisting behind the center and then what what that a Twist is as he goes behind his own defensive lineman as he goes behind his own defensive lineman creates a space for him to get in and get a free shot to Cody to back them up to Second and extra Christian who went to Rice University in Houston had a number of years in the NFL this his first year in the CFL where his dad was a star cardo throwing competely again to speaker and another good pick up for Cole speaker although doesn't make up all of it to get for a first down it'll be a little bit shy coming up here there's a special teams unit coming on now Joseph zema 14 yd pickup and they get it down to the 47 but it's still zema on to punt one of many Aussie punters in the league Global player from Melbourne Australia and standing just inside his 50 so alet are able to move the ball a bit in response to that BC touchdown but they will send it back now with Zema Terry Williams back inside is 10 and a well-placed punt by zema they look to see where it comes out but yes down at the two beautifully done by zema to Pinn Nathan roor in the Lions offense deep to start this second possession start number four of the Nathan BR comeback Nathan rook's first game back in the CFL was three weeks ago he struggled against Winnipeg lapo you can see though how he has progressively improved you ignore the percentage for a moment clearly his best game last week especially that first half against Ottawa as we set off the top I you know he is so quick at making decisions seeing pictures and getting the ball in his hands and you you heard coach Barker talked about it David Neville and Cory Woodruff the left side of the line you have some new players playing he's going to have to get the ball his hand quickly he's three for three he's two for two against the Blitz by the way and he gets rid of this one and completes it go four for four to start that one is the first completion to Alexander Hollands and a first down for BC to get a little bit more space so important when you're backed up here inside the two yd line that you get at least one first down but that's a great throw get yourself out of the backed up situation you're just trying right now to get as many first downs so if you do have to punt you're not going to you're not going to put your uh defense uh in a position where field goal can already be given up gain of 13 for number 13 oh and caught by Hatcher with an aloette Defender moving in nearly picking it off Deontay Ruffin the boundary Corner was just jumping that route but it ends up being a gain of 20 for [Music] BC watch right here that's the matchup and when you see how quickly the ball comes out of his hand this is what I'm talking about if Nathan doesn't throw this ball and immediately yonay Ruffin is going to take it for a touchdown it's going to go oh I think we got the wrong play there but what you can see is how quickly that ball came out of his hands working in first down DC35 and that one is the first incompletion it's Alouette football Bryce Cosby off the deflection picks it up for the interception for the aloette so just as the lions were moving out of their Zone that one deflect off the hands of a lions receiver and into Bryce Cosby for the pick at Midfield Bryce Cosby's second interception this season for the rookie from Ball State he's at the right place at the right time you're going to see Justin McKinnis going all the way across on a playaction pass but Cosby becomes a high player as you as you go across and will play this play action boot back to the field McKinnis is trying to get across to make the play the ball goes through his hands up to Bryce Carter as the highest player on the field so being in the right place right time seeing the Tip Drill looking into his hands second interception of the Year alet taking over near Midfield play fake and it's dumped off but hit right away by Ace elely Jose barbone who's getting the start just his second this season because of the injury this week earlier to Austin M this is typical Montreal offense they are going to throw quick behind the line of scrimmage throws bring people across the formation and try to get defensive backs to chase across and try to create leverage Advantage uh First Catch for uh on the outside for barbone who's like you said filling in for Austin mck another good addition on defense for the Lions to with the injuries to Ben helic and Josh Woods out for the season a yend elely been great for BC the BL over the middle and the closest receiver is Speaker it falls incomplete so we get a third and nine coming up now for monreal Elie was excellent on that play Just forcing that ball to be thrown not in a position where speaker could make the catch so really good job like you said about these young linebackers you know Ryder Varga Aiden Ney because you talked about the injuries to those really Josh Woods and talking uh you know between Josh Woods and Ben Al adic those are two talented football players that they've lost for the season the referee Andre PR throwing a flag out before they get the snap away for the punt too many men in the formation this is a 10yd penalty will we play third down so they'll push him back 10 we're going to snap around Midfield so instead from about the aloette 45 and it'll be a little more space for Terry Williams and the Lions who started Deep In Their Own Zone last time that's the special team coordinator for Montreal Byron arenol so Nathan roor had that play of the completion to Hatcher which was very close to being disrupted by Deontay Ruffin and then little Tip Drill on the next play off the hands of Justin McKinnis and intercepted BC about to get the ball back with a seven nothing lead late first quarter here at Molen Stadium on a Friday night in Montreal Joseph Zia and this time stays in bounds for Terry Williams across the but not much more good coverage there by the alet and Veteran Alex G among those beautiful MRE Y in early September you just knew this game would mean a lot to ex aloette William stanback here's what he had to say going into the stadium going back to this province it's going to mean a lot seeing the fans and everything like that but it's a business trip man I'm there to handle business I'm trying to stomp Montreal with that let's send it down to Kenzie to long yeah Rod so before will and I had that pregame interview I looked down at his cleat I'm like those are fresh man he's like well I was saving them for a big game and this is it for him this is the game he's excited to play in but when we did speak to him this week reflecting on his career here in Montreal he talked about two seasons 2019 well that's where he met Vernon Adams Jr and the team came away with their first winning record since 2012 so he's picking up where he left off now with Vernon Adams n BC and then of course 2021 where he personally came off as a CFL Allstar and it's there where he learned to run with that heavier B and more of a physical Bruiser mentality to his running game he now sits around 233 235 and he's been more efficient with his weight and Kenzie's wearing his stomping cleats tonight for this big trip back to Montreal has two carries so far and there is number three and Antonio MRE has him wrapped up but you stand back gives him a little carry interesting when he talks about I wanted to carry I at one point it came back from the co year carrying 24 lound but he as Kenzie said I really felt comfortable running that level weight and I know as somebody going against this guy a lot of DBS did not want to tackle this guy like so his physicality that's a touchdown run from last year's gray cup and you just he's got the ability to run you over he takes a three yard game turn into a sixy game just by his shoulder level pad level and moving for another gain of five for standback second down roor passing to the left and it is caught and Hollands just getting the foot down just need to get one down inbounds and a big first down for BC they're attacking the wide side of the field cuz that's where some of the spaces are here beautiful throw and again toet tap you're trying to get your one foot inbounds in the Canadian Football League you only need one and again the concentration it's got to happen I got to see the ball into my hands and I got to bring my feet down both inside excellent pictures here for Alexander Holland five touchdowns tied for third in the CFL right now gain of 11 first down BC taking to stand back rolling to the right throwing on the move it's caught by Holland again back-to- back catches for Alexander Holland but yeah William stanback you talked about 2021 where he averaged nearly 100 yards a game that was in 12 games only in that shorten season he's on Pace right now for more yardage in a single season than he's ever had he talked I asked him what you wanted to get better at here at the BC Lions he says I want to be a better pass catcher I want to be there for Nathan l so I can be somebody he can get for check Downs to they try a deep pass here and a fly comes out intended for Hollin Mark Antoine dequa Kono back there and hands are raised like who me but the flag does come out and it looks like yeah big pass interference call going against the Alex monre number [Applause] 24 it is the safety daqua who's called in the [Music] pi so you'll see Alexander Holland he works out uh tries to make a post move on Dua bumps [Applause] inside dua's trying to make a play that right hand as you see that shoulder turn that's going to trigger the foul and the throw down field and that's going to be a big penalty spot of the foul going to push the BC Lions right into field goal range a 40 yd penalty for BC to move it inside the Montreal 25 looking to add to their seven-point lead they scored a touchdown in the first possession it's fumbled on the snap it's fumbled again Roar picks it up and they're happy to just lose four yards that could have been a disaster for the lions with them already in scoring position so this part of the this part of the Canadian Football League teams are going more under Center cuz you can do a lot of different things here under Center you probably don't have as many reps as you do in shotgun and you have a little bit of bad snap looks and then once you have the bad snap then everything slows down you have people on the inside Isaac ADI berglin in to make the Stop and create the negative yardage play well that play was a mess right from the start they lose four yards but on the bright side for BC they still have the ball still in range and trying to get the first down and fighting for it after the catches Keon Hatcher will end up about three yd shy with a third down coming up for BC right here this is just Nathan just get putting them in a position get closer for the field goal too much for the field goal here I don't think I would this early in a game on the road a 3 third and three here looks closer to three from y vantage point take the points you're doing good job here now the BC Lions I almost think it was a you know they're almost had an a away game with touchdown Pacific and now they go across the country on a short week so that's not an easy thing for a team to go on the road and do that sea white was one for two last week in touchdown Pacific this a 23 yd Chip Shot for one of the great kickers of all time in the Canadian Football League who saw an end to a long streak of 46 couple of weeks ago in Ottawa of 46th St field goals made so one for one tonight and the last play of the first quarter interesting stat checking on the team traveling all the way west it's obviously harder for the Eastern teams to go but 6 and2 for the BC Lions this season or six and2 against Montreal so the quarter comes to an end William stanback trying to make an impact David Mackey got the touchdown and a short yardage play it's a 10- nothing BC lead a look at the first quarter stats here in Montreal BC no surprise those numb numbers bear out with the score they scored a touchdown in their opening possession they just added a field goal at the end of the first quarter for the 10 nothing lead Lao and I were in Calgary a few weeks ago and it was country night so yeah we brought our hats we got involved and gez lapo I thought we'd look good that night but I figured that' be the only country night of the year that you and I would be involved in ye anyway uh apparently not we find out it's country night here in Mon and the aletes kindly gave us the everybody wants us in cowboy hats I guess it's a thing hey any teams want Cowboy Knight me and Rod are ready let's go now we look like bad guys the black hat I was going to say when it was when it was just a one-off I didn't think anything of it but now I'm wondering are we going to be doing this all over the country now I don't know well last time I couldn't you couldn't hear me cuz I didn't have my mic up cuz I couldn't wear a hat and the mic it's a specific set of skills to wear a cowboy hat and a headset microphone here's Cody vardo starting it off in the second quarter Al down 10 Reggie White near a first down for Montreal nice easy throw on the outside uh Zone Reed and crashes down and we'll have somebody on the outside Reggie White in the flat this is what Montreal does they take the crumbs they take the easy throws put them in put them in second and short situation here second and three should be a high percentage run now well the aletes fell behind Edmonton here at molon stadium two weeks ago needed a second half comeback to win another close one by four and down by 10 at home right now and in that second and short and bulling the way through and the ball comes out with Walter Fletcher was the ball carrier and he was still standing up and they're saying forward progress is a first down for Montreal nice run nice Push by sletcher and again on second and three you know if you only get two running the football you're still going to be able to convert by using a a quarterback sneaker wedge on Third and one so you're going to be very high percentage run on second and two to three mentioning the Run of Jason Moss second year as head coach in Montreal and has seen a whole lot of success including the great Cup last November there's a quick one to Charleston Rambo Rambo getting his first catch of the night and that too will set up a second and short again for Mont off single Evans versus Rambo just steps down quick slam Cody takes his throw immediately shotgun three-step Play to get the ball out quick and that officially puts Rambo over 600 yds receiving and this is first CFL season coming into this game at 599 four touchdowns this is where I talk about these guys are short short short then shots they they get get short passes short passes few first downs then all a sudden a big play shot plays coming short here for Dominic Davis gets around the edge he's still in a seat short yardage Runners we had Macky taking one for a touchdown Davis getting a whole lot more than he needed right there he's telling Jason M hey did you see they just did that with a fullback hey hey how about me getting one of those this is a outside zone for a quarterback from a quarterback Snake look you're trying to go around the defense cuz you don't want to run it up inside all those big guys and you're trying to make sure that the defense they have enough players on the outside they just widen everybody else he finds a crease and gets north south really good Push by the offensive line good run by Dom David he started his career in Winnipeg he went to Ottawa was briefly a starter came to Montreal in 22 then he went to BC and after this past season thought he was done till the aletes Came Calling on that first down play nothing doing there that's handled nicely by an exile seon Evans on that catch Walter Fletcher on the outside the one thing you heard from some of these uh players and coaches for the BC Lions is mreal plays with so many different sets right now you see three players going off the field and three players coming on the field and it's difficult at times trying to know what Personnel Group is in what set is in how do you align your receivers based on the different sets so interesting that uh last play they got their tail back standing out all the way out where the normally the wide receiver is is so a lot of different looks from this Montreal offense you have to prepare for No Gain thanks to Evans there on Fletcher right back to 25 waler Fletcher he breaks a tackle this time and he picks up about five six more yards for the aletes but it is still a third down coming up for Montreal Ryder vargas's out in space and this is some one of the better things you like to do get your back the ball out in space very difficult for will linebackers to tackle these really good bats but the Cavalry is coming for him to keep him in a position to kick a field and a little discussion with the head coach and his veteran QB on the aloette sideline with Jose malos who's been Montreal's kicker most of the Season since the injury to David cot and maltos 16 for 18 longest of 50 11 straight field goals Ro 11 straight one for one last week and this one coming from 42 away for the product of Monteray Mexico maltos no problem the aletes are on the board moving down to get into field goal range little fist pump from their kicker as it's now a BC seven-point lead again the QR promo code on screen to get 40% off crave with a six-month plan and start streaming the biggest shows and latest hit movies all in one place on crave what a beautiful night in Montreal and a packed house here oh the stadium is awesome when it sells out the way it has a lot of excitement for these alet defending great Cup champions top team in the CFL standings at 10 and one coming into this one the BC Lions have the lead 10-3 Nathan Rook back to work it's off the fingertips and picked off again marking second time this game that it's gone off the hands of an intended lines receiver and into in ala's arms William standback couldn't hang on and now his old team has the ball a receiver they go to empty to have the tail back out to catch the pass as you see him he comes out and drops out he's going to be the quick throw but sometimes the running backs aren't going to see this quick throw he doesn't see it it goes up in the air uh you do not want the ball to go up and a anywhere there's Mark Antoine dequa cuz he's going to pick you off and normally that guy returns it for touchdowns in his career so really good play once again this past defense has been spectacular All Season Montreal's defense only allowed 530 plus completions in the CFL really spectacular unit in the past secondary so backing offense to the alox and they're in the lion Zone inside their 40 on that play it goes to Charleston ramble and a flag comes out dequa who was just a game game breaker a year ago with not only interceptions he had few pick sixes including one in the Eastern final that really altered the course of that game the ball comes out so quickly the qu right there to make the play and again when you play zone coverage and less man coverage you have players that are deep and they can see what the quarter what's happening with the quarterbacks they're not concentrated on watching their man both interceptions tonight were versus Zone coverage with high players and tipped Balls by the be Lions dequa celebrates that interception there's also a flag against the Lions for face masking so it's going Montreal's way right now after the second interception of the season for toqua down to the VC 21 Fardo taking the hand off to J ran wants to take off and look who has the sack coming back to the CFL Matthew bet second game back and his second sack had one last week against the Ottawa red blacks athleticism at its finest if he goes down the quarterback pulls it he starts to go down and watch him recover Cody's trying to pull this Zone read but watch how quickly Matthew Betts recovers forces Cody to go up and inside that's such a good athlete on the perimeter Matthew bets to be able to make that play he was Far and Away the leader in the CFL and Sachs last year with 18 second place was 12 and Bs was named the top defensive player in the Canadian football league in 23 he's coming again for G steps up and it is low inside the 10 for speaker but too low for speaker to haul that one in and we get a third down and another field goal situation coming up for Moss's alet uh you know Ma Matthew bets one thing it was interesting talking to him this week we asked him how much dline stuff did you learn because I actually played more linebacker than anything I I the the packages they put me in was more of a drop linebacker so I had more opportunities to do the things on the edge of the defense like he just did there to L ago Jose Malto back in he just kicked a 42 y to get monreal on the board and then after the turnover the interception by dquad this a 28 yd try to make it two for two in the night and to cut a little further into that BC lead thanks to the interception Matthew Betts sack number two in his second game Noel Thorp defensive coordinator for the Montreal alet his defense doing a number in this game so far Nathan Ro has two incompletions they're both interceptions both on deflections first one to Bryce Cosby then this one off Williams stand back into the hands of Mark andan dequa one of the leaders of that defense toqua the safety in his fourth year DC has the football their lead is down to four as we send it down to Kenzie Lon and Rod it kind of feels like a de Jazz move Mark anine dequ fingertips saving the day really because that's how the game ended against Edmonton two weeks ago he talk to n Thor and when he proud of most with this group it is that red zone defense and they were able to hold at the end of that Edmonton game the beverett play and of course the qua but he he's got afraid to dig into the archives and pull footage from many years ago to learn from and actually looked a 2013 match up between the Edmonton El and the Montreal alloet for inspiration and find ways to shut down the red zone efficiency thank you Kenzie and that one is caught by Justin McKinnis who tries to reach up to the 50 to give B BC the first down see where they spot this one yeah nol Thorp I mean he got his first CFL job here in Montreal in 2002 hired as a special teams coach by Don Matthews and his roots are in Vancouver he grew up in Vancouver he was a BC Lions fan lapo in fact when they won the gray Cup in 198 five he loved the fact that he would later get a chance the head coach back then was Don Matthews and he later get a chance to work with him and win a great cup with David Mack in short yardage in second effort does indeed get the first down I think people don't understand how hard it is to to break into the Canadian Football League he was a college coach and then here's his resume all the things he's done he's been a spectacular defense coordinator for our league but he's 31 years old he's married his wife's pregnant and he gets opportunity to come out here after 2 years coaching at UBC uh Jim pop says I got a job in football operations come on out uh and you can interview with Don Matthews at the time he has a three-hour meeting with Don Matthews but he moved his family across the country to start his career in pro football and he's done a spectacular job I've enjoyed going against him yeah actually I didn't like going yeah a lot of lot of people say they don't because how tough those defenses are but there's more aloette defense there pressure coming in Isaac andmy Berlin the heat on Nathan Roy no talked about Isaac ad Demi Berlin how well he can do multiple things within our system you can see him right here standing up and he tries to use him inside and pressures he just continues to go and push the right tackle and get in a position to make the play you know and I think go back to no like you don't have that understanding about how many how hard it is to to just go across the country take these jobs and you sometimes people say oh I'd like to do what you do for a living well would you like to move so many times you like get get lose your job at times it's a difficult thing to do the Freeman Rush work steps up he completes it too big first down BC Aiden art with his first catch of the night gets it inside the aloette 40 Nathan roor his ability to use his legs is what holds this he can't find anybody starts to scramble looking left when you scramble the for B Zone will break down it's just going to find Art for that throw in the inside and n's not happy that they lost contain gain of 26 BC lines up 10 six they have a first and 10 at the alette 38 Ro handing off stand back a flag is out as William standback picks up another three yards for BC that flag coming out just after the snap of the ball the Lions trying to run an outside Zone play arer offside moral4 they'll take that penalty and get a first and five yeah it looks like he's lined up in the neutral zone right here you can see right there lined up in the neutral zone uh you can look at the officials you can see the officials little uh cheat sheet for the officials straddle the line of scrimmage so you'll see the officials put their one foot on the line of scrimmage and one foot on the uh on the spot which is one yard away he's too far inside now the BC Line's trying to run the football but David Neville Cory Woodruff you know it's not just William stck you got some young players up front o line so you'll want to try to establish a run but if you're struggling with some younger players up front they're going to have a big job to to handle this front to be able to be successful running the ball first and five taking the hand off throwing to the right it's caught open is McKinnis and a first down BC and I love what they're doing talking about young offensive linemen so what do you do you put the quarterback on the move so a little bit of a Zone Action he boots it outside and he finds his big Target so the ball pulls out on stck now Debbie berglin can't get there throws it to the big football player Jordan mcginness Jordan mmck doing an outstanding job as offensive coordinator you know I talked about the coaches and and what happens rod and how you got to get into the business that's a guy who paid his dues to become a coordinator pressure coming after a gain of 18 on RoR who's flushed out to the left and he nearly completes that one to Big Javon Cy but it's Bryce Cosby right there to pop in as the ball arrived it's incomplete in second down little bit of pressure more pressure than Zone on Nathan roor here forcing him to move to his left and throw so we get a little chess match between the two coordinators there Jordan maximi BC's offensive coordinator veteran coach n Thorp ninth play of the drive coming up the Lions pressing again they have led all along one point 10 nothing now 10-6 but threatening again more pressure and Zone touchdown art another touchdown for Aiden art for 15 yards and BC strikes back on the second touchdown of the season for everheart everheart right there as he's coming inside a pressure situation from the owls as he breaks back inside they lose sight of them get miscommunication on who's covering who nice touchdown for eart good throw by Nathan before the pressure got to him for the touchdown he got one last week his first touchdown in Victoria he had four catches for 58 yds has one here in Montreal and that with a point after for Shawn White increases the lead after a nine playay Ry for 70 yds Nathan Ro down to the two for everard who takes it in for BC second touchdown of the night he's a high player he's a high player this is what's called a Zone pressure and what you're going to do is you're going to Blitz everybody but you're going to try to cover down and there's huge spaces allowed on the field so this is a a Zone pressure look that Nathan gets the ball out of his hand before the extra players you should have time uh you should have open players it's whether you have time enough to get the ball out of the hands but really good recognition nice catch by everheart versus that zone pressure that the owls love to bring and his second year out of Wyoming is mentioned he his first touchdown of the season last week so he's two for two his last two games since James lecher on this kick return alette in a deeper hole now down 11 176 dri led to a touchdown and Nathan roor and a flag came out by the way too but roor facing the blitz he's four for five now there was a pass interference call and there wasn't an reception too but the touchdown pass to everard as well 12 yeah 12 uh 12 for 1569 yards one touchdown like you said the two interceptions kind of tip ball so this is a good half for them they've done a really nice job on the road third number 48 and BC number 2 n first down the referee Andre bre announcing penalties on both sides the bottom line it is a first down for Montreal Jason Tucker guys caught a poster too in his day Lord what a and you name it outstanding receiver work well with Ricky Ray didn't he back in Edmonton on the 25 waler Fletcher do three yards for Fletcher and we're expecting the thre minute warning exactly 3 on the clock BC started strong most recently strong as well they have an 11-point lead late first half Aiden Art's touchdown celebration what did he do you need to work on it you only have how to do it how to dance milk steagle touchdown celebration uh he did a few of those yes back in my day yes a lot of touchdowns to celebrate plan celebrations that they practiced before the game thank you Kate Kate in the pedal coming up at the half here is Cody vardo facing more heat and he is sacked again that time it's tibo deay a Belgium coming in to get the pressure on Cody vardo and a loss for the aletes late in this first half inside pressure again the depth of the pocket is one thing you you have two things the width of the pocket is for the tackles but the depth of the pocket is the guards you're get good push inside that forces Cody to get off his spot and that's you're always talking about getting the quarterback to be off his spot nice inside move to get him down dbal really nice play Joseph Z at a punt Terry Williams that is 40 nowhere to go an's down there part of that pack and coverage for the aletes after a punt of 51 yards now all lies certainly for tennis fans and Flushing Meadows US Open Women's final is tomorrow 4 Eastern one Pacific you can find out who will win it all the women's Final on TSN Jessica Pula up against Arena sabalenka who lost in the finals last year another chance to win this major championship Grand Slam event US Open Women's Finals watch it on TSA Cody vardo 9 of 11 for 68 yds only though as been able to move the ball a bit but not to sustain big drives taking to stand back throwing it off to Keon Hatcher and good pick up after the catch for Hatcher who gets it up across Midfield and a first down for BC 14 yd gain for Hatcher motion behind the line of scrimmage dump out quickly block down field behind the line of scrimmage throws this is why the completion percentage is so high in this CFL there's so many of these behind the line of scrimmage get the ball to an athlete in space let him run with it and block down field Lions lead this is the start of week 14 there's a triple header tomorrow and TSN one day of football looking forward to that too the throw and it's high for McKinnis and it falls incomplete M Mel showing pressure once again they you see all these players standing at the line of scrimmage but then when the ball snaap they drop out there's a post in the middle of the field by mckinness trying to get it in there you like to throw to big bodies in the middle of the field just a little bit High wanted pass interference and Wesley Su you see the reaction of mckinness 37 came [Applause] [Music] in no challenge play on second and 10 caught first down is Tyrese beverett pushes out Alexander Holland but another good pick up by Holland 18 more yards and here come the Lions again with the 11-point lead and getting closer to scoring range now watch the corner as the corner sinks you can throw the out route you just got to see what the corner does as he lifts the linebacker in no position to make the play so Hollands out to the sideline good execution over two minutes to go until halftime Nathan Ro he swings it out for William standback and he cuts the corner and his ex- teammate Dua gets him down and the ball comes out but the whistle had blown by the sounds of it here it looks like BC will retain possession of this football pressure by the Montreal aletes defense throw the swing to the field to get William the ball I'm tell you any other free safety in the league I think this is a huge game dequa has such speed he can run it down and make a play on the football great range by the tall free safety from the University of Montreal and standback standback looks clearly down here before the ball comes out after a gain of 13 looks to be there the aletes are taking a look at it we shall see see if it's worthy of a challenge see if there's another angle on it there's a discussion now with Andre PR and head coach Jason Moss and as we know the officials are trying to make sure that they Montreal is Ching the r on the field they believe the player was SN downward contact prior to fumbling the football more well there you go Moss wanted to challenge that sudden standback spun around at first glance it looked like he had hit the turf before the ball popped out but but there there is the issue of when the whistle was blown as well and that's why what the officials are told is hey make sure you see the rece the rece the running back make sure that player is down hold the whistle hold the whistle as long as you can don't do an early whistle because that this can happen you got to wait that little extra second to be down so we'll see a couple of these [Music] [Applause] [Music] angles well you know what the ball was definitely out before the whistle [Applause] [Music] and then it really comes a matter of was stand back down before they actually stripped it out great execution by Kon ento when you have a player there's multiple players around the first one's wrapping up the second one's going in you can tell this team is well coached on taking the football Away really good opportunity to knock that ball down now Rick Campell with a discussion with some officials too William stanback well you know how much this game means to him he had one to go off his hands it turned into an aloette turnover is this actually a turnover the ball came out the aletes got it and you certainly couldn't argue the whistle had blown because it had not so just a matter of whether or not it was a fumble by William Stack love the effort from Kento to do this right there I'm going for the ball we got enough people around to make the tackle I'm going to create the [Music] takeaway pretty good pretty good he's got good leverage Ro he's got good leverage on it but great he's going down the ball's ripped out well here's a decision from the command center fumble or no upon review the ball carrier was naed down with contact and Montreal recovered the football first down Montreal Balon so another turnover committed by the BC Lions and William stanback has been involved in a couple of them yeah pretty amazing three turnovers like you can see right there that uh the BC Lions are up 17-6 with three turnovers so they do have the lead by 11 points two minutes to go in the clock but aloette football they have scored points off turnover so far in this half vardo quickly working about the 23 and picking up more yardage up across the 25 is shedler furvious a gain of 11 for Montreal nice catch on the inside by furvious second player for safe Mary's as everyone expands his own throw the ball up and inside IO he gets north south immediately Ryder Vargo right there for the tackle to the 27 quickly again and that one looking for furvious again but bit turned around and that just hits the turf second down pressure off the outside I'm not sure where Cody wanted him to settle but sometimes when you Blitz off the edge what do you do you throw right into that Blitz and they just weren't on the same page whether he was going to sit down or stay on the Move decent numbers 10 of 13 79 they haven't had that explosive play that they're known for the previous turnovers get gave them shorter field certainly one that led to a field goal second and 10 Al 27 that is caught and that is Reggie White up at the 40 and a first down still plenty of time before the half 36 on the clock and a gain of 15 more yards for Montreal sometimes it's as simple as hey I got a guy I really trust I'm going to throw it on the outside he's going to run up to 14 and turn out he gets leverage on TJ Lee TJ Lee's too far inside can't make the play from the Ala at 41 vardo takes off slides up near the 50 up near another first down looks like he'll be just a couple of yards shy of that 8yd pickup on the Run Cody varda now if you watch Nick calender left tackle watch him here he's over on your left hand side right here they pass this twist off right here and then Cody just takes off finds a p second down and short and Walder Fletcher is the ball carrier and does pick up a first down 115 to go as they get closer to Midfield the aletes at one point had Trail 10 nothing got a couple of field goals to chip back away until a BC drive capped off with a touchdown from Nathan Rook to Aiden art but the Lions have had ball control issues keeping Montreal in it with driving back Co speaker another catch for him from Wisconsin lacrosse speaker with two touchdowns last week against Edmonton and a good first half as he picks up 13 more yards for the Y Zone coverage everybody lifts Cody immediately just goes I'm going to throw to Cole speaker watch him put his foot in the ground immediately and get north south that's the difference being second and short or being in first down or third and one I love how we got North South immediately to create the first down clock taking under 50 seconds to go first 10 from The Lion 45 Fardo dumping it off to Fletcher after the catch and room first down and much more for the aloette as Fletcher takes it down inside the bc20 26 yds Fardo to Walter Fletcher you had everybody running down field everybody clears out everybody's starting to Chase he knows where his running back is gets the ball to him plenty of space for Walter fetcher the leader in the CFL and Yak yardage down to the 19 late first half Alex looking for the End Zone here's Fletcher again after catching that short pass he works it down to the 15 25 seconds to go and a second down is coming up for Montreal a really good Rhythm BC Line's playing a lot of Zone coverage dropping everybody out Cody this whole Drive is just throwing his checkdowns so they can get across the field this is the longest yardage position they've been on this whole Drive second and long still looking for their first touchdown of this game and to end the half in a strong note F jardo he's going to take off inside the 10 down near the five he got the first down first and goal coming up for Montreal as vardo a couple of times in this drive has chosen to run this is a uh this is a quarterback draw it's a read draw you swing the back out to one side and then you go up over the lineman block and he runs up and inside you try to expand the Box get the linebackers out and QB draw 10th play of the drive Bardo and knocked away Ryder Varga coming across Gary Peters was there as well for the intended receiver Charleston Rambo really quick pass to the slant on the outside you'll see a slant coming in right in here tries to throw it underneath immediately as they clear out there you go Ryder Varga underneath it to make a play on that great play by Varga we mentioned the injuries to the Lions linebackers Ben helic well and varo stepping up getting the started weak side linebacker now second and goal sof toss into the end zone for speaker touchdown Al [Applause] the Cole speaker his third touchdown in two games and that's number six in the season one of the best things about the Canadian football league as these deep end zones Rod that gives you the opportunity when you're close at the four or five yd line to throw Fades into the back of the end zone I used to always talk to the receivers about hey we're going to make him defend the back of the end zone just as much as the front of the end zone press man coverage Cody recognized it immediately just throws it to Cole speaker he knows he's got an opportunity run the outside receiver underneath great High hands great concentration and a beautiful located ball by Cody Fardo for the touchdown that's on the last play of the first half so they'll do the point after for maltos with no time left in the clock what a drive 11 plays 94 yds off a turnover the alet drive down and they cash in with their first touchdown of the game to make it a closer one 17713 you know BC has the lead lapo but those turnovers have certainly been costly if you watch what happens here usually in these situations Cole speaker as he plays number two receiver to the field there's so many opportunities for uh when it's man coverage that the safety can't get to him so that's what uh Cody recognized so he says all right you just work outside release the low player and run down let's here's a picture of it you see press man here press man here one goes under but this is an outside release and he just stays on that path this is called slot fade where you just run a fade route it could be a corner route but it's easier to just outside release and then throw your hand up and find a spot Cole speaker's been such a great player for this organization Danny maoa he talked about when we interviewed him that I just went down to five different free agent camps people loved what they did in a Montreal fre agent camp and made by Place well initially it said no time left in the clock but there was time for Terry Williams they put one second back on and so there was a kickoff and a return there by Williams so now we can say it is halftime and as mentioned the aletes are down but that could have been a whole lot worse for Montreal what a great way for them to end the first half I that that's what this team has always done you like two weeks ago uh they were down they were down they went 15 in the second half they just find ways to respond to put themselves in a position where uh you know come back and put themselves in this game for BC Aid art two catches in that first half including that one from Nathan roor for the touchdown as everard has TDS in two straight games and here he is now down the field with K well Aiden your first touchdown just last week a touchdown Pacific followed it up with another one here how is the game slowing down for you yeah you know this is my second year here um just the game itself the way our offense runs um just getting more comfortable and comfortable obviously we're over halfway through the season so being able to see defensive is running the same route you know over and over the concepts over and over just throughout practice it's you know it's it's helping a lot well the team seeing the game well here tonight you got the lead now how do you hold on we just got to execute we've got I think three turnovers right now uh those are all self-inflicted wounds um you know if we don't have those turnovers the score is not this close so we just got to go out and execute and put points on the board and uh come home with the win best of luck thank you appreciate it okay to you and back inside the studio alongside Enoch maaba Jim Barker Milt seagull and we've got ourselves a football game to say the least look we will get to that very gutsy call by the Montreal aletes at the end of that half in just a moment but we have to give a little love here to Nathan roor once again for the second straight game in the beginning the first two quarters of the game over 200 yards he's got 202 he's got the one TD yes there're the picks in there too but really overall very efficient Enoch an amazing start for Nathan roor yes he has a few blemishes on uh at the in the first half but he played really well I thought he had some great throws he found his receivers in stride and he was extremely extremely accurate and that's what really was absolutely impressive you look here he finds Justin mckinness boom great range and he catches that then here he's backed up in the end zone and finds Hollis just threads the needle right there between two Defenders and here again finds Hatcher right on time or else that would have been six points going the other way as well but he he was just been extremely accurate and that's what was impressive but here's one of the most accurate things the things that he impressed me the most was this right here he displayed his strength he was able to get through the Enzo uh get through the defensive line get through the defensive line and find his receivers a few times we saw him rolling out and still has the same accuracy he's showing all his ability tonight and this if he continues this in the second half he's going to put his his team in position to win this game even if he throws two more just a couple mishaps okay well you know we talked before the game about n thorp's defense they're in this game because they got three turnovers otherwise this would be a route right now but the three turnovers have kept them in the game and we talked about playing top down and if you notice here they're going to have a three deep coverage and again when you throw against this you're going to have intermediate throws like Nathan takes here but he throws it high and that means the ball's going to get deflected and the same thing happens here he's going to now you're going to have two deep and all the under and underneath guys and one of the two deep guys again decoy he takes the high throw that gets deflected that's what n Thorp does it's always it's always from the top down they're not going to get behind them right and you talk about those those three turnovers and I think that's a big reason why Jason Moss decided when you score touchdown you we can't go into halftime creating three turnovers and only have nine points big re reason why I think he had those gutsy calls on that last Drive which ended in a touchdown it's first one right here this quarterback draw by Cody Fardo a second and six a lot of coaches in this position would have been like no let's be conservative let's go in the half with the three points but no Jason m is thinking like guys we got to get the momentum a a field goal will not get us the momentum and this call right here this is gutsy there's a chance if this ball is not complete if it's drop the clock runs out and there's no chance to kick a field goal Jason ma said I don't care we need need to score a touchdown we need to have momentum now they have momentum coming out of the halftime they're not up but this team has some confidence now they know they can score they know they can drive the ball down the field so gutsy call by Jason Moss it played off and it may help this team win in the second half so question for you are you ready for the dance give the people what they want we practiced it come on it like this I think oh here we're going to see it in the back screen here are you ready I think it's more like this this and then up yes this is the Atlanta version I know but I like it you know I like the replay of it I didn't know about it real time but I don't like it I want mil to teach him how to do it the way you used to do it is it I like it you had practices with your teammates of how to do this touch celebration it was right before the game these guys are probably practicing for hours we practiced right before the game a couple of minutes I would say guys let's get this together cuz I knew we were going to score a bunch of touchdowns and we would do it real quick back in those days touchdown celebrations were unbelievable remember Copeland with oh they were good they were practicing oh they incredible but when you score as much as I did you was like I don't need to why am I still go break I can't handle mil SLE talking about himself anymore [Music] [Music] [Music] it is super Saturday in the CFL it all kicks off from the nation's capital on TSN with the Argonauts taking on the red blacks and then note the middle game here the banjo bull between the Ruff Riders and the Blue Bombers will be on CTV at 3 Eastern 12 Pacific and then it all wraps up back on TSN 7 Eastern four Pacific it's a rematch between the Stan Peters and the Elks so don't forget the middle game tomorrow is on CTV Enoch out of those three which one are you most excited about the very first game of the day I'm looking at the Toronto Argonauts and the auto red blacks this is Toronto Argonauts team that needs to figure out who they are who what is their identity my old team going against the auto red blacks who don't really lose at home so this is going to be a big game for for the Toronto Argonauts and they got to figure out what's going on with them there no doubt I know what game you're going to take because you've said it's the greatest game ever the banjo Bowl I'm gonna take actually the Elks and the stamp Peters stamp Peters are gonna go with Logan boner a new quarterback they're going to bench Jake Mayer and they're going to say we're going to go here but here's what I'm excited about I remember the days of 50 to 60,000 for the rematch there's going to be 30,000 there tomorrow for the the the rematch of the stamps and Elks how exciting is that I'm G to call 35,000 coach that's what I'm saying 35,000 and actually the banjo B is it's not the best game it's the Labor Day classic but they tell me the banjo B does rival with but we don't know because Wade Miller want to fly us out never would to Winnipeg thank you you know what the thing is there's still time there's still time no I was just checking in the commercial we can actually make a morning flight to Winnipeg should I text Wade or text Miller right now and make sure that we're in Winnipeg tomorrow come on winipeg don't you want to see Milt steagle Jim Barker Enoch woma will all of banjos at the rum Hut this sounds great come on down to Wi we're coming [Music] Willie to party and we're ready for a fight come on kick back relax watch Friday Night footb Boys B CF football game [Applause] [Music] halftime stats in Montreal with the Lions leading by four the one that really stands out turnovers BC has turned the ball over three times and that's why this game is so class one of the turnovers an interception by Mark antoan dequa who's standing by now anine we look at that first half and just a lion's ability to March down the field just how do you disrupt that momentum here in the second half look we got a minimize the Miss assignment got to make sure that we R through the ball we know they got a good offense we got to make sure that we play our defense and we play 30- minute football you're able to take advantage of of the the turnovers so what it's just standing out about their Tendencies and your ability to start reading them now look it's a good team it just if they make mistake we got to capitalize you know those two interception TI balls lose B on the carrying we got to take everything we can and try to go get that win appreciate it thank you Mark Mark andine talking to Kenzie Lon thank K Kenzie Rod Smith paap back here at molsen Stadium there's James lecher the alloet are going to get the ball to start the second half and they have momentum on their side too they took their most recent turnover and drove for a big touchdown to get within four points here's luncher breaking loose Midfield before he's bumped out by Stephen flintoff the kicker so Cody Fardo in a shorter field to work with and things certainly ended strong in that first half Lao 15 and 19 two 221 yards one touchdown but way I would say about Cody is that last Drive they had seven first downs rough in that last drive to end the half they had five first downs the whole rest of the half so really good spark at the end to get that touchdown now this is what Montreal does they they are a team that they're comeback kids they're down 17 to 13 seven of their 10 wins have been comebacks three times greater than 10 yard 10 points 74 yards in the final drive 68 Ys in the previous five what a difference oh the ball comes out in the sack this would be big for BC if they can finally force a turnover and they do the signal from Andre pu so pressure coming in right away from the inside and that's Jonah Tay coming up with the football but they put the heat on Fardo right away and this time Lions football in a turnover you see tvi right here he's playing inside the defensive tackle and then there's a little bit of twist he moves in he moves outside as there's a movement inside but dama The Tackle can't make the play knocks the ball out from Cody great recovery excellent start for the BC Lions defense he turn the tables now in Montreal turnover they get the ball at the Alo at 35 to start this second half with a four-point lead William standback left side puts his head down gets it down inside the 30 this is what you try to do all these twisting and when you do twists like this what happens is you just calender just gets in a position where he turned his shoulders and he can't recover toi coming back inside bunch of body jumping around trying to recover that ball excellent play by the defense best carry of the night for William stand back two with six yards is has a smile about that one big hit and fumble recovery second down Nathan Roar has time and he completes it to David Macky who has a touchdown he scored the first touchdown for BC in this game and a short yardage play that he took for 23 yards has the reception for a first down BC part of the course uh Zone coverage only rushing three people so Nathan has plenty of time you can double the offensive lineman can double the three down uh rushers so he just Waits around finds David Mackey to throw the check down now the BC Lions third quarter W they're minus 34 in point differential eth in the Canadian Football League at the in the third quarter so this will be big if they can get points right here just the sixth catch of the season for a macki and a first down back to stand back he's running hard wants to stomp in his old team and he does some stomping right there as he gets the Lions close it'll be a first and goal coming up for BC love it old school ISO play D Mackey leads up on the linebacker block out get William the ball get his shoulders Square big first down run back to stand back left side and he can't get away from adami Bergin beverett in there and a slew Dylan win as well to make sure standback isn't able to break that one off negative yardage play a little bit of penetration at the point of attack I believe you're going to see penetration right there there as they're trying to run their Zone play Demi Bergin moves inside a little bit of a run twist so send one in out the tackle's got to stay outside so as the player moves inside the tackle should naturally take a debie ber big moment for the Montreal defense now a second and goal of the alette five the lions with a four-point lead to start this second half Nathan Ro pressure coming looks into the end zone two5 incomplete third and goal coming up BC Montreal tries to pressure there leaves the middle of the field wide open you can see all those bodies up there standing around the line of scrimmage they're all going to rush the quarterback as all those players come there's plenty of time for the quarterback to throw the ball to the Middle Field just a little bit too high so this is a great stop by this Montreal defense with the ball inside the 10 to keep it within a one score game as Shawn White is out he's one for one it was a short one 23 yards this is a short one as well just 12 yds away the wh's two for two so BC takes advantage with points off a turnover but not as many points as they would have thought they could have got instead opportunity missed they settle for three in a 2013 third quarter lead I don't think that's going to go very well for sou florid you're not like you you thinking Bama still has it right I don't think that's going to go very well they're going to take their $300,000 and go home just don't get anybody hurt even even after life after Nick Sabin still roll tied 20-3 BC that's Walter Fletcher with a good run he went luck he cut it back up gets it up across the 50 and a first down for the alet good stretch good reach by Calender and on the outside you have a wide receiver on the outside also helping create an edge good re uh Takes Two Steps then cuts it back inside nice vertical run by Walter Fletcher get vertical when you can in the Run games and at 12 yds for Fletcher seven-point difference the aloette still trailing Fardo to the right and high for Jose barbone and little discussion as they thought he was juggling it as he went it a bound so what's the ruling here here's the you want to play quarterback in the Canadian Football League you got to make these throws you got to be able to throw it from the hash is a catch saying barbone had possession before he had it out of bounds so M's going to right now trying to limitate how many pictures you can see of it so they're not going to huddle up they're going to play Fast to force if somebody want if somebody on the BC Lin wants to challenge second and five the BC 54 and coming in with C Evans on barbone on a high ball and jumping in front trying to jump in front and take it away Evans the ex aloette he played here in Montreal back in 2019 leads the team two interceptions the you love veteran quarterbacks watch how far inside the field Corner San Evan says they play farther inside because they know the ball's in the air longer so it's really hard to complete those Slants on those field Corners because they're going to play so far inside as you saw the veteran seay Evans understands the width of the field football as mentioned lapo barbone playing because of the injury this week Austin mck would just come back to the team played one game he's on the six now another good punt by zema takes a bounce inside the five rolls out inside the 10 and little congrats for 36 after a drive stalls right there seante Evans reaching up just a little bit High DC still in front nice start on the East Coast for Nathan roor 16 of 21 passing 230 yards some real good accuracy on somebody throws on the sideline you see that one to Hollins right there uses his legs well he''s been able to maneuver in the pocket in zones been able to hit some of these blitzes that Montreal is doing really good start for Nathan or tonight as mentioned he has thrown a couple interceptions although they were balls that were deflected I ain't blaming him for those no way BS yeah one could have been a better location the one to McKinnis a little bit off the one to William standback the ball carrier off his hands and that was taken away by Mark anine dequa but 16 to 21 nice Tackle by sanki there on the inside Run play trying to establish this run a little bit it's been hard going Williams stand back nine carries 36 yds you know sometimes uh you got to just keep going with it but when you got a hot quarterback route it's hard you want to make sure you get the the best player of the ball naan Ro your best player you got to put the ball in his hand second and seven roor with lots of time he's just going to take off thought about sliding by the looks of things he's taken down by Darnell sanki but it's a first down for BC on the legs of Nathan L we talk about sanki too we we talked to him Paul and what a difference he's made this past calendar year to the Montreal alet he plays firstus skatch one two years ago signs with the XFL plays 12 games they win the championship then on September 11th he signs with the Montreal aletes that's 41 games that's a lot of football for him to play two championships he won in the XFL and he won last year with the G's talented football player from sack State he signed in the 11th they played and lost to the Arles in the 15th intercepted Deontay Ruffin third pick thrown by Nathan roor and takes his helmet off in Anger it sets up the alox nicely here another turnover committed by BC stepping in front Deontay Ruffin with the pick fist bump no Thorp [Music] Deontay Ruffin's third interception of this season Western Kentucky there's a couple of things going on here first of all the ball's in the middle of the field so it makes the throw a little longer there's an action fake this is an RPO where they block out and he makes a decision on whether he wants to throw it or run it Ruffin is lined up a little bit inside and then this ball ends up a little bit too far inside so Ruffin's right there for the takeaway this is his third interception first time in his career right first time and it's four straight games for Nathan R now throwing a pick that's also the first time in his career Cody vardo Deep End Zone too far for Reggie White as they took an end zone shot right away after the turnover here approaching the Midway point of the third quarter and the aletes within a touchdown you're always trying to put a post in the middle of field because a lot of teams void the middle of field as they get closer to the end zone so they got a post shot here no safety in the middle just a little bit too far on the outside for the throw to regie White Fardo second game back after going on the sixth game of the hamstring injury on second down Looks To the End Zone again coverage was there Ronald Kent and making contact right after the ball arrived for Cole speaker so good defense there for DC as two quick strikes to the end zone come up with nothing and a field goal situation now for Montreal another opportunity for Cole speaker on a what I believe was a double move and what do that mean you you're going to try to stop the DBS you're going to go in and then take a shot trying to slow the DB's feet down but really good recovery Kent's a high player he sees the movement inside now watch him close and go make a play and there's the collision at the point so good recovery well I'm sure Jason's watching to see whether has enough angles for the challenge yeah he he he threw that flag Montreal is challenging the previous play for defensive pass interference by DC number [Applause] 21 here's the question I am as we looked at that well we can have a few more looks at it that that they said that they try to reduce the influence of the command center that they didn't want to be making decisions based on slowing it down to see if he arrive first if they thought their initial impressing was no interference they did not call Pi that they didn't want to get into overturning plays if they thought you had to slow it down to determine whether or not it was Pi well I I I don't think just because it wasn't called here they're still going to look to see if hey did did a guy get there early did he make contact before the ball gets there if they still see that on their reviews they're still going to uh put a put a flag now that looked awfully close though didn't it's very close very close when you look at it game speed live speed they said no pass interference here's the command center decision I after review the ruling on the field stands incomplete pass so consistent with what they said they wanted to do going forward regarding pass interference when it looks that close they don't change the call on the field aloette f fans don't like it Jason Moss won for two in challenges had a successful one earlier on the fumble by William stanach they even talked about hey we want to take a couple looks at this but we want to look at it we don't want to look at it slowed down we want to make sure that uh we don't slow it down too much we want to see it's clear and obvious a pass interference so Jose malos is out is will settle for a try for three from 27 yds away as maltos puts three more on the board Montreal you are ahead by a [Music] sent you are ahead by a s aree by [Music] ay so Jason Moss frustrated with having that challenge not result in an overturn another look as I say when looking at this in slow motion Ronald Kent now on Cole speaker Kent's going to come in from the top of the screen to make contact could be right on time it's not clear and obvious that he was there early at least they're going to just say hey we're going to allow that to stand Co speaker didn't argue at the time so BC ball up by four again dumping it off to Javon Cy who was hauled down there by Darnell sanki and a late flight does come out Toy's 23rd catch to the season this is a big body player they pretend to block then leak him out into the flat get this get him the ball out in space 6'5 230 lbs tack Montreal number one so you can see right there can't tackle inside a cylinder so that's going to be a 15 yd penalty for sanki on the on the horse caller to finish the thought about sanki though ass sign 4 days later plays his first game for the alet they lost and they never lost another game they've only lost one this year San's only lost two games as a member of the Montreal ala crazy yeah but he was penalized there for the horse caller Sacramento State Rod him Ricky Ray Charles Roberts Cloud be Thom going to say MBT from a lot of guys from Sacramento state sacamento state amazing down to the alette 46 [Music] Nathan Ro handing off William stand back good Hall and he heads down just shy of another first down big Collision there with Titus wall 's David Mackey at the point of attack as a tight end pull the backside Su Chung around create some space William stanach just stays on his course on the outside Zone get a good gain on First and 10 good eight- yd gain 31 on 31 quite a collision in a second and two lions up by four stand back first down and more inside the 20 15 we got get and wall on him again he still goes for the touchdown what an effort by William stanback and that's what he's talking about 38 yds rumbling his way in against his old club for a big bctd great Rhythm great patience staying with the Run game this is what he does best squaring his shoulders creates a crease bounces outside good blocking at the perimeter then he's going to make one t break one tackle break a second cut the weak arm cut back I mean and then make the play into the end zone They signal touchdown they are they were taking a look to see if if he actually was down just before it looked like the ball had broken the plane they're going taking another look at that but I said they did signal the touchdown what a run by William stanback in his return to Montreal a game as we talked about that you know means a whole lot to him now talking to Jordan mimck offensive coordinator the BC Lions he talked about this situation it was second and three now uh he said last year we had so many problems on second and short stra what happened going be a touchdown he there we go so Jordan mxim talked about there was so much we weren't very good on second and short we brought William Stan back to it so we could execute that obviously they won the first down then they get the touchdown his ability make people Miss three play 70 yds a big Rumble by the ex alette William standback how sweet must that be for him coming back to his old home home feeling spurred by his old team wanted to stop on him he certainly does on that play as he takes it in to increase the BC lead to 2716 what he liked about it he goes I'm really I spend so much time with this offensive line unit um we go to dinner together we spend time apart from the facility uh he's become really close to this uh DC L group for now it makes him the leading rusher in the CFL ahead of Brady Olivera Olivera at 851 should point out this is Stack's 13th game for Oliver's played 11 and they're playing in the banjo Bowl tomorrow against the Saskatchewan Ru Riders part of our triple header but for now Williams standback on top of the league in rushing and his lines on top of this game by 11 again Cody vardo to Charleston Rambo and gets it up for about an 8- yd pickup Gary Peters and Ronald Kent taking out of bounds we have a fib here Rob FIB formation into the boundary they put four receivers into the boundary when you play zone if you can look at this hold on let me draw I didn't know I get an opportunity to draw let's draw it up you put four people into the boundary now you can get a numbers Advantage block one of them get the ball in space to the top Yak yardage team in the CFL Walter Fletcher lost yardage tried to keep his feet there's good pressure in there by that defense Josh Banks and the Lions up front and they push it back to a third down to stall the aloette six carries 23 yards for Walter Fletcher so the BC Lions defense their front has done a really good job uh defense coordinator Ryan Phillips their units really performing well today we talked to him this week great conversation I asked him what do you better at nowadays right I've loved to what his answer go well sometimes coach I go back to the player days and I start yelling at my own players I got to be a little bit more cool collected what you going to be happy with banks right there on that stop Ryan Phillips whose playing career ended here in Montreal he was injured it was short anded he he did regret nothing against the alet he regretted not retiring as a BC lion great career he had there and now starting another great career as a coach in BC what another fine punt by zema to chase Williams back inside the 10 bit of a high tackle as uh he goes down but a 58 yd punt and back comes Nathan roor 11-point lead in his fourth start since returning to the Canadian football league and each start certainly heading into last week after the game in Victoria last week each start has gotten better there have been turnovers on the night he's thrown three interceptions two you could say on tip balls were not his fault certainly the third one blaming himself on that but turnovers had certainly been a problem for BC despite out playing the Alouettes keeping the game closer yeah these are opper you know when you have a really talented defense that makes plays on the football that catches the ball you well you don't you want to be deadly accurate with the football so you don't have these opportunities and it's amazing with the amount of turnovers BC's got this lead 27-6 really good job coming across the country to be able to have this lead and there is an injured aloette special team of Frederick shenan is still down getting attention by the alett medical staff monreal is as mentioned has only lost one game this season and that was here at molon stadium in week six that was the night Cody Fardo got hurt the hamstring injury and it was the Argos that dominated that night but they had won five straight before that they have won five straight since that they're 10- one and you consider they they won their last eight games in 2023 including the playoffs in the great cup what a role this team in just about this calendar year that they've been on but you see what how they've really shot out of the gate in 2024 yeah and every year getting better obviously you see the home the home record how much better it is this year three and four four and five jumping up each year staff's done a really nice job of you know being in the they've really had great opportunities to come back and win a lot of the games you know last two weeks ago against Edmonton edmont had a chance at the end of the game they and they held them out of the end zone They had bunch of stops for them they came back from oh I think they were down they did a 150 run in the second half to take the win against the Elks so now BC and Nathan roor back with the ball leading by 11 third quarter William stanback another carry for him and he had one carry he is not going to forget against his old Club just previously leading to that touchdown a 38- y for 31 a nice inside run Michael kacher in there getting some work done Cory Woodruff Z Chung the inside guys going through there I know they're happy to have Michael ker back after a couple weeks injured very intelligent football player at the center position stand back's getting closer to 100 yds at 90 right now on 12 carries quick throw it is caught it's C toy who spins around nicely with Wesley Sutton on him and he picks up the first down for BC just hard what a 230 lb guy makes the catch and Sutton's trying to hold him dep but Sutton's 188 lbs so quick throw by Nathan gets the ball and then kacho just good leverage pushes it forward for the first [Music] down in his fifth year out of the Langley juniors local product for the Lions and yeah big Target and a strong one at that first and 10 of the 27 stand back working for everything he can get with tyres beverett his old teammate wrapping him up right at the 30 yd line picking up a few more and getting closer to 100 yds the uh the ability of these guys just to kind of lean on people in the second half I like this I like this for the BC Lions make sure making sure that hey we're going to continue to try to be physical we're going to continue to try to get these big runs we're going to try to wear down this Montreal defense and again Montreal's coming off a buy so like the Bey lines I love what they're doing Jordan mimck trying to make sure the Run game is part of what they do second and seven the BC 30 2716 lead final 2 minutes third quarter roor CAU first down Hollands and up to the BC 45 uh the processing speed of Nathan Ro is what is outstanding Zone coverage drop out this is normal status quo for Montreal they drop everybody out how quickly he recognizes I've got Holland underneath as all the linebackers have vacated he can get the ball in space to him and he can turn his foot get north south and that's kind of a tribute to Rob this is a seveny completion and you're second and seven so you got to make sure you continue to have good positive yards on First and 10 gain of 14 they mark it at the 44 first and tan roor little pump couldn't get it away he is sacked again and it's Tyrese beverett whove been in many ways their top defensive player their leading tackler and leader in defensive plays as well KCK watch him right there Here Comes Tyrese beverett on pressure he comes no you have no back in the back field so he's a okay as the goes to the left he becomes a free rusher Nathan doesn't have a chance to throw the ball there's nowhere to go really good push in expansion to give Tyrese beverett that run up the middle into the inside a gaps for the sack second sack for the elet loss of five second and 15 down he goes again balls out still out as Ro picks it up but it had been blown dead and it's Isaac a adami berglin with his second sack of this game speed rush on the outside speed speed kills when you're coming around the edge we've got young tackles on the outside but ademi Bergin coming around this edge with speed he just beats David N uh David Neville's hands and once if you don't get your hands on them and can't run them by the quarterback it's going to be a sack every time great play by Demi beram so roor and the Lions go back backwards in that possession with two sacks and it's flintoff to putt it away coming in to get it his leer at the Montreal 40 across the 50 but the 52 yd line with Kristoff volia the rookie Ling on the tackle there but Montreal takes over still down one score seven points and that's quarter time memorable quarter especially for that man William St back the touchdown to pad the BC lead so many interesting story lines in this game not over yet we still have a quarter to play and BC is leading 2716 but they've really had to earn it and certainly for William standback lapo I mean if they can go on if they can hang on and win this game he's going to remember that for that big touchdown run he had really nice really nice run really nice balance of trying to get the Run game involved once you got you got to make sure you do do that cuz facing this Montreal team now they've got three 10-point wins this season coming back from 10 points down so they're in a situation where hey we've got to make sure we finish in this four fourth quarter because Montreal are the comeback kids like I said before seven out of their 10 wins we from behind so they've got to have an answer they got to hold off this talented Montreal offense and make their plays on defense well that defense certainly charg in see Nathan Rook getting some attention after he was sacked hit by Tyrese beverett and then Isaac adami berglin on their last possession of the third quarter Flags out in The alette Possession here before the snap of the ball so a double Cadence down so what that is a double Cadence where you're trying to take a look at the defense or you're trying to get the def uh the defense to jump off sides one of the receivers goes too far down field and that turns into a penalty and a first and extra for the Montreal alls first and 15 at the Montreal 47 final Corner alet Fletcher spins doesn't get to Midfield you know as good as Montreal's been getting the results they've been missing some key players there's Austin Mack who just came back to the team he played against Evington two weeks ago and then he got hurt in practice he's on the sixth game but bear in mind they lost Tyler sne right at the beginning of the season and Kon Julian Grant and most significantly Tyson Philpot who who had for a Time been the leading receiver in the CFL but he's been gone a month with a foot injury so all teams have injury issues mreal certainly has there pajardo on the second and nine wants to take off does first down just tip toes out of bounds too as Christian Covington was giving Chase but Bardo got enough to keep this drive going you play coverage you drop everybody out underneath Cody recognizes no one open starts to scramble and does what he's started his career as a great Runner be able to go get the first down keep the driver alive really good really good recognition that I don't have anybody to throw to I'm just going to pull it and run get the first down yeah you're right Tyson Philpot at the beginning of the year was outstanding still one of the has the most big plays on this football team it's difficult to replace hats off to Danny machoo Cole speaker and Ronald K is right there to upend him and a little pushing and shoving after the fact almost 47% of the passing yards for this team Montreal comes from Yak yards and this is what you see right here quick throw ball out immediately these are little quick screens mistake whether they didn't have count for Ronald Kent or they lost Ronald Kent in their protection scheme going to force a long field goal here runs and lost about a yard and uh it's a second down coming up but yeah if they can't if they can't Advance it much further it would be a long one for Jose maltos leing 11 yards for the first down from the VC 44 ohar barely gets it away to flusher just in time as he doesn't get the first down but to your point gets it closer and a flag does come out back in the BC secondary such a great throw by Cody number four well with that face masking penalty and Ryan Phillips beside himself is that'll move things down for a first down for the alet near the Lions 20 if there wasn't a face maskk what I loved about this Cody you know knows he's not going to get the first down but he doesn't take a sack and he may he would have made that field goal much easier for his kicker so love the decision to get the check down but the face mask going to give them the first down they need put him right inside the 20 so the allets moving right back down 11 trying the draw P J wanted to take off but C toam says simmer down you're not going anywhere this is the second play I've seen that it's truly called a quarterback run it's not a quarterback draw and everything this is a a power play to the quarterback what does power mean you're going to pull a guard over one guard's going to come over to one side and but T he beats the guard so the guard cannot kick out and that is a shot delivered on Cody Fardo want to be a quarterback all that Glamour and in that case to hem an Open Season to come in and take down Fardo hard it's a second and 14 and that loss from the VC 24 vardo he dumps it off the Fletcher again has his feet keeps running not a first down again he gets it inside the 15 much closer but it will be third down coming up here for the aletes down two scores 11 points and and you can talk about like Walter Fletcher like you you understand why they utilize him so well that I I I talked about already first in the Canadian football league in Yak yards so when he can't find anything make sure I can go to my checkdown player get the ball in Space the guys who can make people miss you see them make people misses just a loss of yardage is what hurt them but they're going to try for it on Third and they are indeed it's third down and three they're down close at the 13 they're going for it three receivers to the left looking that way it's caught Jose barbone inside the five first and goal alet barbone in his first year his second CFL game and a big catch for number 80 Sprint to the field to give yourself more time just out of the hands of Cante Evans so a spectacular throw and catch by barbon and to get the feet in bounds to put them in a great position so that's a great throw to the wide side of the field great location and sticking the feet in for the young rookie barbone Jose barbone first year player from Temple so the gamble pays off it's a first and goal at the bc2 Dominic Davis in short yardage quarterback for Montreal going left has room cuts it back but doesn't get in Ryder Varga prevented him from getting the edge he had to cut it back and good work by BC to save the touchdown and once again outside Zone to the quarterback from a quarterback sneak look trying to make sure we get around the defense in case BC Lions don't have enough players and what just happens is I think the fullback just ends up getting he gets turned around Del like if he doesn't get turned around and moved I think he continues to work outside but great Tackle by Varga to stop it and then here comes all the rest of the guys coming over to make the play keep him out of the end zone aely coming in in support but Ryder Varga the big play for the BC defense so a second and goal they're down to the one and slow to get up heading off now Gary Peters veteran boundary corner for Rick Campbell's Lions what a moment this is for Montreal trying to get a little closer in this game the Lions have led the whole way they jumped in front in their opening possession with a touchdown went it by as much as 10 but never Trail so yard and a half to go you're going to have multiple tight ends you're going multiple people in try your best you got two downs right here put yourself in a position if you don't get you just got to get put yourself in a position that I got two shots to take it right here the ball should go back to the one if you get to the half y line but should be two heavy inside runs here by the quarterback this is Dominic Davis's fourth game since coming back to Montreal is one touchdown does he have two Dominic Davis pushes it into the end [Applause] zone touchdown [Applause] Montreal you're asking your offensive lineman when you're a yard off the ball you got to get lower than them pick a spot quarterback stay low stay underneath the linebackers finish in the end zone and that makes it a five-point game so yeah they're going for two to see if they can get to within a field goal but a great drive by the alets included a third and three gamble that paid off with that past toar bone that set him up at first and goal 10 plays 58 yards as once again BC still leads but the tide feels like it's turning a little bit for Montreal in this fourth quarter for two points to get within three no for Charleston Rambo Manny Ramba is right there so still a five-point game 937 on the clock Fardo dearbon on the third down gamble Dominic Davis another crack at it into the end zone for his second touchdown alet get close [Music] week 14 started tonight week 14 ends in a big way tomorrow Super Saturday triple ha and look at this what's that game in the middle the banjo bow Riders bombers on CTV look at that first time ctv's got the CFL since 1986 so it starts with the Aras and the red blacks and it ends with the stamp Peters mels both of those games on TSN but note CTV will have the banjo board on the kick a short kick off and the alet who had just picked up a touchdown got it to within five and a flag does come out look like a moon shot where they're going to try to kick it to an area where they felt there was no players on the return team and go recover so that's a you see that cross field kick to that space where they they must have seen unfilm that there's space over there for them tring to sort [Music] out weai didn't hear from Andre pu on this yes or will we well Andre's Mike has a couple of issues right now Andre is like he's on a zoom call you know you're always on that Zoom call you're muted you're muted I was going to say you're muted Andre turn the mute off can you read lips okay we're assuming I will assume this from Rick Campbell's reaction that it's still BC football but a soft kick going down and the alette touch it before it went out so the aletes tried kind of a not like a 10 yard short kick but one went a little bit further just to an area where they thought they could recover it a flag did come out and as said it looked like Rick Campbell and the lions were satisfied with the ruling it's BC's offense out on the field as the discussion continues with Noah Thorp down there and Byron archambo the Special Teams coordinator yeah sometimes you're going to look at your s Scout and you're going to watch and you see if people run back to do their coverage too early sometimes voids are some voids are shown on the field so they did What's called the moonshot to try to go will recover a short kick and now we're going to get an explanation from the referee Andre pu and alet are pretty fired up about this on the previous play there was no infraction for offside Montreal legally recovered the football inbounds it will be Montreal ball first down well there you go I think Rick Campbell satisfied now so he's he's livid as you can see the alet last to touch it as it was heading out but we assumed the flag initially an offside against Montreal and yeah arenols fired up in a good way for the aletes that that paid off and the aloette offense is back on the field so the ball goes at Le once it goes 10 yards anybody can recover it it starts bouncing backwards hard to see from that angle but I assume they're saying that Montreal touched it as it come out once it went 10 yards started to go backwards as long as the aloette player didn't go out of bounds first but the ruling is Montreal balls Cody Fardo to the left Cole speaker alet got within five last time they had the ball just moments ago two-point conversion try failed but here we are one- score game 2722 BC Al W have this fourth quarter momentum going again special teams coordinator I don't want to run into him BR he's a pretty Brian ARB pretty thick guy great call by the allets great call by Jason Moss trusting his special teams coordinator hey let's go ahead and do a a short moonshot kick and try to get the get the recovery and it worked second and two now up near midfield for the aletes on the move again oh we got a Flea Flicker and a deep look down the left for just a bit far he got in behind coverage just a bit too far for Jose barbon these are products of one thing Rod they're products of by weeks so you have a you have an onsite you have an onsite kick or a moonshot kick you have a double move Flea Flicker why do you do that well hey you got a by week you have plenty of time to practice usually as a coach you're going to pull out hey we got a couple extra days of practice let's make sure hey let's do that Flea Flicker we've done before hey let's make sure we have always talk about right after a bye somebody's going to pull out some special play because they've more time to practice in a short week or anything else so this is direct result of Montreal having the bye it was on a second and short trying to fool the Lions there but instead they'll have to punt it away zema takes a hop and it hit into the end zone this time ran Terry Williams gets up the one it's still a four-point lead though after a 60yd punt flea flecker fard oh so close just [Music] off last week William stanback had 93 yards rushing tonight 13 carries 93 yards couple of catches early in the game and a big explosive run for a touchdown able to break tackles and provide more than just the pass game for this BC Lions offense they've been balanced I think enough tonight and he's provided a spark and help this young offensive line you can feel the determination on that touchdown run stand back roor has the time wide open over the middle is Cy and a big strike for BC as they get it down down from their 40 to the aloette 40 a 30 yd pickup C toy big bodied receiver between him and McKinnis you got you like play actions and then just throw it over the top of linebackers to Big bodied receivers great throw location over the top of the linebacker to Cy you love those huge receivers that this BC Lions team has on that last punt by Montreal the Lions have given up the Rouge making it a four-point game back to William stand back from the 40 picks up another five as helmet comes off just as he goes down but looks like five maybe six yards for the lions running back who played in Montreal from 2018 through last season winning a great cup with the alax you just love how quick like his feet are so good for a 230 lb player that he just picked him up moved out of the way was able to avoid an arm tackle to force a second and short situation stand back heads to the sideline with this second down play coming up of four yds second and four after that 6yd carry David Mackey the fullback back there has the ball left side Mackey now runs into Mustafa Johnson and pushes his way down for another BC first down best part of that is they ran over Cory woodr and David Neville so the younger players nice jump outside gets north south gets the yardage needed really good by David Mackey the fullback SL quarterback SL tailb back tonight done a little bit of everything we joke with Dwayne Ford about getting the fullbacks involved in the Game Boy BC do they ever macki short yardage QB he ran at 23 for a touchdown at the beginning he's out a catch had that run there for a first down just got to let him throw it now second and one in a quarterback sneak let throw it sounds like something Innovative offensive mind that you are would be you're going to start drawing it up right after seen whether you can throw the ball lck or not you might you might want to check that out first remember you in studio years ago drawing up plays just something to do always working on some new wrinkle some new idea stealing it stealing it from other people that's what good coach see other people do it and then you keep doing secret to good comedians as well I understand that's what Perkins been a good player good find for them the last couple years great tackle Pearson will go Andrew Pearson will go in boy they've had to juggle things in their old line with derell Brockton suffered the knee injury went on the six last week and touchdown Pacific so they made that change Tyler Packer had been starting this year he got hurt so they brought in a new left guard so their left side and we hear the noise a lot of noise noise here in Montreal right now oh yeah cue the air horns when the alette defense is on First and 10 Montreal 28 and back to the ground and legs chugging 31 Williams standback exactly what Jordan mimik talked about he's like hey we want to be able to have a guy that if I need to get five yards I can get it he squares his shoulders just makes a slight inside move and then he's going to fall forward and get four four or five extra yards to put them in a second and medium position way easier to convert second and medium obviously than any second and long situation and with that carry Williams Stack's gone over 100 he's at 104 now on 15 carries second and five at the out of 23 and it's talk Alex Holland turns it up looking for another first down as he keeps the legs chugging there inside the 20 down to about the 18 yd line Hollands is the single receiver up top one-on-one situation and sometimes when you have a lot of people at the line of scrimmage that's a run play but if you get a one-on-one match up on the outside with depth on Hollands the quarterback has the green light to throw it outside take the opportunity throw it out throw an accurate ball put it in Holland's hands so he can get forward for the first down so you're just trying to get speed and space really good north south move and it's just there the link of the chain it's third down not quite just a the shortest of short yardage situations now for presumably the fullback David Mackey to go to work and the similar spot on the field a little bit further out as mentioned the 23 back in their opening possession Mackey caught the aloette defense off guard and found an opening and not only got the first down he got to the end zone [Music] what a momentum swing this is for BC this is just what they needed as the alet were creeping closer and closer got it down to four they keep Nathan roor in for this one so not Macky L stays in just need inches fall forward which he does to the left and he bounces off and he keeps going going all the way for the Lions touchdown tonight when they didn't me need much they got a whole lot more you would have to check the stats book The Last Time quarterback sneaks were two touchdowns that were this deep this far away excellent second effort by NA you watch he fumbles the ball the ball will be fumbled another under Center and then he just keeps his legs moving jumps outside everybody thinks the ball's going to be running off tackle bounces outside for the touchdown huge RIS response by the BC Lions on the road and hostile territory exceptional play by Nathan Ro opening up the lead again for BC what a response of Shawn White six Place 70 yard Drive in just over 3 minutes 3423 back to 11 and roor of course gets a lot of praise for his passing but as a runner in 22 he had a 50 yd run for a touchdown in Ottawa and then a couple weeks ago in right by the left hand side you don't have to bring it up sorry to bring that up open and then in autta a couple of weeks ago he had won for 51 Y and then when he finds the edge he's a he's a dangerous Runner as you can see there there's a little bit of Bobble of the football but as he goes off tackle he just keeps his feet moving good Push by the line and then everybody steps inside almost thinks the ball's going to be inside great bounce out yeah I have not seen two quarterback snakes go for this deep of yardage for touchdowns Mackey and Nathan Ro you think Macky feels like he was robbed of a chance to get another hey Nathan that's my job what are you doing working my side of the street or R's like hey buddy watch me do you think you got a good one watch me do this no Thorp with so much success with the defense he's built here in Montreal but it's certainly been tested tonight with the visiting BC Lions who have put 34 on the board against these aletes who are certainly in danger of losing for for the second time this season although it's the CFL and we still see 5 minutes on the clock and an 11-point difference yeah really good job by Jordan mimck a good game plan on a short week coming across the country after touchdown Pacific 294 yd passing tonight no but he only had 1 EXC and guess what they [Applause] count off the kickoff alette ball again James on the return to the 30 35 and finally pushed out of bounds little helmet to helmet with Maxim Royer Ryan Phillips defense about to be tested again by Montreal let's get an injury update now from Kenzie yeah so right now for the BC Lions we're we're monitoring SE Evans and Gary Peters so a challenging site right now that their two starting Corners uh questionable to return right now seay Evans by with an elbow injury right now at this time it's all taped up he is back here on the sideline so he's got taped in in some wrap around his left elbow and as for Gary Peters that's an ankle injury he's he's nursing right now so we'll see if these two do return to the game guys so certainly a relevant story line to follow here thank you Kenzie see Adrien green on the corner now with the injury to Evans that is caught by Charleston Rambo Ryder Vara wraps him up and keeps him to about a five yd carry make it about six or seven there for the alow green moves from the free safety over to the corner try to make that change you're going to expect to see a lot of Zone up uh you're going to see a lot of Zone coverage trying to help green playing out to that field corner and saw Peters injured earlier but we got him back but he is back on the field now the boundary Corner the veteran Gary Peters second and three at the Montreal 45 it's getting late down to four minutes pump fake the throw it's caught shedler FY Midfield first down into the lion Zone clock continues to tick at about 350 to go and Montreal back to trailing by 11 Kristoff bolo is now playing free safety first year player from Laval he's in the he's playing the Deep player and part of the core is Montreal just taking the checkdowns as much as they can here we go again after the gain of 13 intercepted Lions ball and off a deflection it's TJ Lee who takes advantage so kind of a turnaround there after the Lions had given up a couple of tip balls that one headed for Walder Fletcher ends up going to TJ Lee in a big turnover committed by the allette battle of the takeaways off the tip balls TJ Lee making his second start as a Sam linebacker a strong side linebacker ball goes a little bit too high TJ Le's right there for to make the play Scot's flipping his hips trying to throw puts a little on it a little high TJ Le's right there to make the play veteran football player from Eastern Washington 10e vet the leader of this defense that's the third time we've had an interception off the tip ball as BC gets in on the ACT and there's William standback he's got his 100 he's got his big touchdown what he wants most is to get his win against the Montreal aletes and they're 3 minutes away from getting that they have the ball they're in the aloette zone they're leading by 11 looking good at the moment for the BC Lions [Music] [Music] frustrated Cody Fardo after the interception before and BC has the football and the aletes are facing the strong possibility of their second loss this season Fardo six And1 record as a starter this season Montreal had taken a timeout just before the official 3-minute warning so so they'll they'll give the warning coming out of this Alouette timeout but it's BC football Nathan Ro second and three it is caught Justin McKinnis turns around gets the first down puts his head down gets it inside the 35 so 251 in the clock and they'll issue the three-minute warning but BC lapo with a great chance now to put this game away the thing they do the best is their minus turnover margin right now they have four Montreal has two so in the turnover margin World they are minus two in turnover margin you don't normally win a game when you're minus two uh but the B Lions have run the ball well uh they've gotten some of those explosive runs on those short yardage uh QB snake plays and William Stack's added 100 yards himself right down at the 35 234 and Ticking stanback a memorable night for William standback there were a couple of mistakes earlier the tip that led to a pick the fumble that uh ended up being taken by the alet but they'll remember that big run especially if they hang on and win this game 38 yards what a determined run by William stanback in his first game against his old team and this defense has done a very good job tonight uh Brian Phillips and these guys are like yeah got to hold off the the big play ability of this Montreal offense and they really for the most part haven't had a lot of big plays so Ryan Phillips has had a nice game plan on the short week DC started 5- one lost five in a row then one last week to get back to 500 stand back running again mtry taking him down but he gets close to another first down he's still running hard and well over 100 yards rushing on the night just widen people out they like William stck loves What's called the outside Zone play where he he runs wide and the lineman run wide and he's just looking for a crease to get up north south gets them nine yards put him in a wedge situation once again to continue to burn this clock get the first Rick Campbell's Lions if they can hang on they for now would move back into first place in the west at seven and six the bombers playing the Riders again tomorrow though both teams were at six and six that is Macky in the third and one back in in the short yardage play um Montreal at this point was 6-0 against the West BC was 2-2 against the [Music] East pretty impressive day Nathan roor out as a wide receiver watching first down happened the Lions swept the aletes a year ago they won earlier in the season in Vancouver they came in here and Vernon Adams talk about former aloette going against the Royal team Adams got the start there's Vernon taking now in at the number two quarterback to Nathan Roar stand back ex teammate of his in monreal and teammates again of course in BC and a big part a big reason why standback wanted to go to the BC lines to be with his friend VA yeah this could be a nice day like for him to finish the game with the ball in his hand trying to keep running the clock out so I'm sure he's enjoying every carry he's getting here to keep churning away run this clock down and and but in that game last year won 3425 by BC about this time a year ago Adams threw three touchdown passes no picks and you know that had to feel good I'm sure he can relate to what stanback is feeling right now coming back to Montreal and they just keep feet and 31 and you know always taking the high road and dealing with this you know with Nathan RoR coming back with with total class and the great start he had to the season with BC RoR taking over number one right now but Vernon Adams pretty talented two quarterback system you got right there I was going to say how would you like to have that Q room right now absolutely but Adams had some good years in Montreal with standback 29 19 for both of them was a breakout year for Adam standback ran for over a th000 yards and they're close friends and yeah that was a Vernon Adams had a big hand in William stanback wanting to go to the BC Lions so Shawn White trying to make it three for three all three of the tries for him just chip shots there's Mike Benavides our friend Benny special team pleas reset the game clock to 39 seconds 39 seconds with the word for David Macky taking as much time as they can before they kick this field goal and that would you know essentially put it away now still an 11-point game but the BC Lions huge Road Victory by the looks of things now th a minute to go and white out [Music] to make it 3723 and back above 500 we take an updated look at the west standings the start of week 14 into the final third of the Season BC on top at seven and six 14 points Winnipeg bear in mind because the bombers own the season series if Winnipeg wins tomorrow they would technically be back in front in first place such as it is at this point in the season with so much football still to be played but and for the aletes 10 and two still in charge in the east as mentioned they've already clinched a playoff spot that math is done uh for aot and Toronto though huge game to Mo it is a big one second place in the East uh you know for the the red blacks who haven't played a lot of Eastern teams they've only played two teams in the East this year they played here and they lost badly and they had a walkoff win at home against Hamilton so that game against it's been a long time since they faced an Eastern opponent and the you know the red blacks really want to gauge where they are I mean this one against tomorrow this one tomorrow against Toronto is a big one they performed very well against the West now they got to go face their Eastern teams that's why they talked about the end of end of September going into September the rest of the season when you start playing some of the I think the league has done a great job of scheduling the people that you're going to be fighting for playoff spots at the end of the season it's been really good that bomber Rider game tomorrow will be you know obviously the the backto back that's going to be a lot of fun over there in Winnipeg yeah so for first or second place on CTV the other two on TSN and of course the Battle of Alberta with the Elks really starting to come off after an 07 start so you're in studio tomorrow all day I'll be in studio all day it's been a pleasure doing some games in the booth with you though buddy a lot of fun we look at Super Saturday coming up tomorrow lots of CFL football starting at 1 Eastern 10: a.m. Pacific Argos red blacks B Ango bowl and CTV three Eastern Time rematch after just a dramatic one we were at in Regina last week and then the stamps and the Elks and Logan boner the starting quarterback not Jake May for the Calgary stamp Peters getting his first CFL start boner for the Stampeders trying to that's the interesting thing even for the stamps as hard as it's been lately the West is so tight nobody's out of it right now uh the the Elks are in it you know after how they started out and McLoud be Thompson was tremendous last week you talk about a two quarterback system here in BC you got two pretty good quarterbacks there at the at the Elks organization right now too Nathan you know he feels good for William stanback coming back here to Montreal I'm sure a lot of the guys do William stanback I'm sure looking ahead to this game Bittersweet course fond memories winning a great cup with the aletes but not happy with the way it ended not getting offered a contract he has 20 carries for 128 yds and a beautiful hardworking 38- yd touchdown run that is going to feel good for a while I'm sure long flight home but it be a great one for the BC Lions about to win their second straight Cody vardo and the alet about to lose for just the second time this season and just the third time since September the 15th going back then just before they went on their run of eight straight and won the gray cup very good football team very fortable crew here you know and and I I've said this all along this Montreal offense has stepped it up so much better this year than the previous year they can score points they're explosive and you got a great defense this wasn't their night tonight 5 seconds on the clock looks like vardo limping a little bit there but Williams stand back most yards since October 22nd 2021 when he had 2 203 against the Argos I remember that game as well but wow yes sir a standback who's had reason to celebrate inside this stadium before but the first time as a visitor this one goes to the BC Lions and this one for William Stan back who has a very happy return to [Music] Montreal on the Victorious side as the Lions improved to seven and six really good defensive performance Nathan roor overcame a couple interceptions was able to put points on the board against this difficult defense and certainly I really felt that uh Rick Campbell had his team ready to go on a short week traveling across the country so that's a huge win against against one of the top teams in the Canadian Football League rout so it'll be very interesting how they just the ability for them to run the football tonight you know that that's going to that's going to show up when they continue to figure out how good they can run the football throughout the course of the season so it just doesn't have to be Nathan Ro in the pass game so a victory for the Lions their second straight back on top of the West at seven and six and for the alet who've charged out and one so many times in the last calendar year but fall short on this night and Montreal will head off to Calgary to face the Stampeders next week the Lions well they'll be back home at BC place to host the Toronto argonut Nathan Roy the Lions Victorious here in Montreal thanks for watching everyone have a great night
