how you doing everybody it's your boy wardy as you can see we're back at it talking about the amazes and folks the Mets have made Moves yes they made the Blockbuster edition of acquiring chman Troy and Ben gamble yes I know these are not the sexy names yes I know they are far from flashy but what are they they are the continuation of David Stern's philosophy as a new pres baseball operations acquiring as much MLB caliber death as humanly possible without hurting the long-term Vision whatsoever so by acquiring the pieces that we're about to break down in today's video the Mets continue what has been their motto this entire time it's by having MLB quality depth something that they lacked so heavily in years past even including since Steve Cohen became owner himself just three plus years ago so in today's video we will be highlighting where exactly did these news come from with chman Troy and Ben gaml what type of impact if at all could they have on the club why did David Stern make these moves and why in the case of Gman choice especially could he be a more interesting and really fascinating pickup for the Mets in more ways than one that is what I'll be breaking down in today's video but before I do all that make sure to smash that like And subscribe Button as it is the easiest and best way to support the channel thank you guys all so much and Advance as always but now let's Dive Right In let's see where did the news come from because the news with Chatman Troy came out just over the past 12 to 24 hours at the time recording this with the Ben gamble news however did come out over the past 4 to 5 days so as you guys see here from the following starting left to right over the past day or so from his agent himself the Mets have signed shean Troy to a split contract according his agency the deal is worth up to $3.5 million including performance incentives if he makes the opening day roster he has an invite to spring training then to the right we see from the Mets themselves back on February 12th 2024 we've signed outfielder Ben gamble to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training so let's start by breaking down a little bit about Bang gaml cuz gam is not someone that I was intending on breaking down an individual video but now that the Mets have signed chman Choy and understanding the potential uh ramifications of that what could be the outcome rather that is why we're breaking down B gamble 2 because these are two guys that again are in similar category may impact the Mets this year may have zero impact on them whatsoever could impact them to a decent degree depending on health stat of other players a lot of things could fall right in the Mets hands with these players a lot of things could not go right but there's a little risk involved for the Mets and the commitment that they have with them but having said that let's break this down by starting with Ben gaml because he's going to be a quicker discussion here than chman Troy so a couple things to know about Ben gamble guys as many you guys know he was most recently with the San Diego Padres this past season but barely played in games I mean he only played in six games at the lb level this past season uh given the depth with the Padres as well but gamble in the 2022 season's final year in Pittsburgh 115 games played for the Lefty bat over 400 play appearances 42 run score nine home runs 46 RBI a 232 324 369 clip for a negative .1 war and a 96 WRC plus so right around just below League average you know a pretty much a League average bat there for the most part that has been the case for Ben gaml throughout the you know majority of his career pretty much a League average bat at his absolute best and there's nothing wrong with that he can play all Outfield positions there's nothing wrong with that type of pickup so Ben G you don't really need to buy into too much outside the fact that this is a guy that's going to be competing for a roster spot this spring training he falls in the similar categories of the Travis Janowski of the world for the Mets in recent years but ultimately this is someone that is really far down on the Mets depth chart of their Outfield when it's headlined by their current Outfield configuration at Brandon nmo Harrison Bader stry Marte Tyrone Taylor and then you also have guys you know um you know um TR Thompson the Mets recently picked up as another bat that can be considered but then you also have Ben gaml and ultimately the Mets are going to call up their top Outfield Prospect this season and Drew Gilbert but they're just going to make sure they don't rush him so gamble makes sense in the scenario where say goord been one of the guys goes down and Marte Bader or even a Tyrone Taylor Off the Bench for example then that's where it makes sense to call one of these guys up and the beauty of it is that if that does happen again this is an MLB coward bath that can handle his Zone without a problem hits for solid contact again decent OBP nothing flashy whatsoever but again still a guy that's around the prime of his own career as a solid utility guy on a team you know that's hopefully contending for playoffs but gaml a guy that might have a little to no impact on the Mets this year might not even crack the roster might be out of the out of the organization by time spring training isn't even officially finalized and wrapped up but for the time being he's in the organization he's on the roster he's a name to focus on as he's added to what the have as a good amount of Outfield depth especially on the defensive end that we have for the 2024 season so that's what you need to know there about Ben gaml shout out as always to our amazing sponsor here on the channel at bet us on the channel but now let's get into the guy that's going to have a lot of people interested and that is in fact Chi man Choy Chi man Choy is to what many people is a meme because Chi man Choy is an absolute beauty of a personality a lot of people love his infectious personality and you know really how he goes about himself he's acrobatic at the first base position he's doing full-blown splits I mean he's having a lot of fun out there and know he's messing around and he was highlighted for his time with the Tamp Bay Rays for a number of years this past year he was with the Padre's a limited sample size though because he was dealing with a huge injury bug dealt with multiple injuries this past year which is why I had such a down year and again this is another Mets pickup where it's a minor league signing just like Ben gaml for example Ben gaml however Ben gam is a minor leag signing with invite spring training Gman ch as we mentioned is a $3.5 million deal if he does make the opening day roster if not that he's making 35k per month that he is in the minor leagues but Troy was so interesting about a pickup like this and also I'm sh I forget the guy's name but there was someone on YouTube that did an awesome highlight real clip of just chman Troy raking against gar Cole throughout gar Cole's entire career so I had to pull that up but Troy has had a very respectable career for the most part and he does have similarities funny enough to a guy who signed the same de Troy that bean and hogi vogi himself Daniel VAB back VAB back and Escobar are now Toronto Blue Jays I wish them the best and now the Mets are doing their best Pirates or Padre's impression even Tampa Bay Ray's impression because both chian Choy and Ben gaml have been on all those teams they had their stin in Tampa they were on the Padre's last year they were on the pirates of the year before that or at least for a couple years there it seems like that they're linked everywhere that they go but the funny thing is that there is some similarity between chiman Choy and vul back in the sense that yes they're both Lefty bats they're a little bit on the heavier side these are guys that again aren't known for insane home run ability but also are known for strong eyes at the plate and have that discipline but I'm going to tell you right now as crazy as it might seem this pickup of Gman Troy might be a pretty decent sleeper one for the Mets this year and a platoon option now I do not love the idea of chman Troy getting consistent reps of the DH spot mainly because I Mark Vientos there I want a guy that has yet to break out if it's not going to be JD Martinez if this is the last of the Mets offensive pickups this offseason per se then I especially want them to roll with Mar VI as much as possible but what's fascinating about chiman Choy is when you look at his numbers through baseball saon you really realize he is a very disciplined hitter a very impressive one Al be it too look at that throughout his career yes he's not known for the average but that's not what you're getting you're getting around again a 350 OBP guy a 750 760 or so Ops you know a guy that's going to drive in you know 10 to 15 home runs but what separates Gman Troy from Daniel vgab back it's a couple things but the main thing is that this man not only has weight but he has power and he knows how to utilize it Daniel Vach has been horrendous in MLB since arriving with the Mets with his ability to locate The Sweet Spot the hard hit percentage there in his Bat the barrel percentage that he's had his struggles there so while he's got it on base at a great clip he has struggled to really find The Sweet Spot of that bat in the 2022 season as well as we look at chman Choy numbers here through Savon xwoba 73rd percentile expected slugging 61st percentile average exit velocity 93rd percentile at 92 mph that is so important cuz you finally have a lefty bat if he is utilized in this lap again not that I wish I'm going to tell you right now I don't want chman Troy getting much at bats up at all with the Mets personally I want Mary V to be riding as much as humanly possible if you are done adding bats if you're not going to add another DH option that's personally how I feel and I'll stand by that until prove another otherwise but the point is Danny vack had the weight but he didn't know how to drive whatsoever I mean he took more pitches than everyone in them mother felt like chman Troy has a phenomenal eye at the play here but also has phenomenal strength with his swing 93 percentile and average exit velocity Barrel percentage 84th percentile hard hit percentage 88 percentile Sweet Spot percentage 85th percentile Chase percentage 96 percentile walk percentage 96 percentile outs above average his defense in 2022 77 percentile so if you want to get Pete some off days put him at DH put CH man Choy at first not a problem whipper Edge Caper Edge not good one of the worst in baseball but that's okay because even though that yes he strikes out quite a bit he's at least striking out discipline in the zone he's not looking silly with a hobby by his slider that's freaking 10t out of the zone that he's still swe out somehow and the bat somehow is still also in his hands I don't know if it's the glue I don't know what it is what I know though is that Gman choy's discipline and his strength is what separates himself versus someone like Daniel vulger back again not a sexy name not someone that I'm overly excited about to see in Queens however if he does crack the open a roster that I'm going to be r for him but the Mets find themselves in an interesting spot now and I think that this was P purposeful by David Sterns they have two guys on this roster right now the roster is currently full at the moment they might have to make another move of course um they have two guys right now that profile ear similar and that is DJ Stewart and Chim and Troy DJ can play Outfield but he can't play Outfield well for the most part aside from his flashes a brillance for a couple games at the end of the 2023 season he's going to get little to no Outfield Reps for the Mets this season bar injuries and all changes that of course can be had he's a DH that's pretty much it chman Troy can play first base well pet Alonzo though and it's Pete Alonzo walk here he's going to be playing as many games at first base as humanly possible that's what Pete's going to want obviously so you're looking at pretty much the DH position two guys that have limited power DJ has proven to have power and you see it here in Chan Troy Troy just has not proven the power to the point of being a consistent 20 home run bat but he has had power year in and year out and even last season if you look at the Saad numbers further again it was limited because it was just 104 at bats but still he was one of the better hitters in xwoba expected slugging just under 500 one of the most elite in baseball average exit velocity quite literally one of the best in all baseball better than 2022 where he averaged 92 off the bat now he's averaging 93 and a half what we saw in 2023 very impressive Barrel percentage even better went from right around 11 to 12% to roughly 20% insane numbers there are just 20 on the percentile however however they do it hardit percentage roughly 60 just phenomenal numbers there sweet spot percentage what below League average and in that small sample size so that's something that he can work on but chman Choy someone that again struggled mostly because of his injuries had a plethora of injuries all throughout the 2023 season there with the San Diego Padres and he is someone that again while I don't love the idea of him getting many at bats if the Mets are done adding bats here and they are really debating what do they want to roll with this could be David Stern's way of saying hey chman Choy is my guy I did not pick DJ Stewart I'm giving him an opportunity to prove himself this spring but I did not pick him he was still a billy eper guy chman Troy is going to be my selection because of these reasons and while DJ did have that flash of Brilliance chian Choy is a much more polished overall hitter gets on base at a far greater clip throughout his career as a far safer bet and again is someone that can at least handle his own defensively to give pet Alonzo some off something that DJ Stewart would not be able to do so I think that between the hand eye that you see there with ch uh with chman Troy and ultimately his ability to drive and lift the ball that's another thing that vulg back struggled so mightily with as if he did lift the ball he couldn't get it out of the infield for the most part chman Troy is able to hit Gap to Gap he's able to drive it out of the park again you're not getting a crazy amount of home run power but you are getting a lot of power in the sense of the bat to ball skills the speed is very much there the average exit velocity is very much there one of the best in all major league baseball so it's crazy that I'm talking about these guys when they may have no impact on the Mets this season whatsoever but for the case of it being the complete opposite and injuries coming in play and they do have to come play or maybe they ball out the spring you're like who is CH man Choy who is Ben gaml now you know by checking out the Wy video in case you didn't know too much prior so Mets fans that is what I will leave you with I want to know what your thoughts are on the Mets acquiring the latest here that beting shean Troy and Ben gaml two guys that again have been around everywhere together now their next Pit Stop together is in Queens do you expect both or at least one to crack this Mets opening day roster if so who do you exact who exactly do you expect that to be and why and ultimately do you like these Mets moves by David turns do you not like cuz I'm going to be blunt with you I want power more than a at the DH position as great as the Peres are with ch Troy as awesome as it is that he knows how to drive and lift the ball something that Daniel VAB back knows nothing about unfortunately I wish him blow Toronto no less while he has that ability and the numbers look great in that sense that goes in hand with why he has a low contact buying average around 230 240 250 because he Strikes Out plenty in the zone that is when he's striking out but he's very disciplined you're not going to catch him s and missing out of the Zone pretty much whatsoever but is Troy the route that they ultimately want to go here that's going to be a big question again this is someone that might have a big impact he might have literally nothing on the club all I know is that this might be the David Sterns guy but I want Power in that DH position I think that there is no one that could provide that power more currently in the organization than Mark Vientos and I do not want to see him platoon which would also hurt his development if he's not seen lefties consistently we not seen Rey's consistently so that's what I'll leave you with thank you so much for watching stay tuned for consistent coverage on all things Mets all all offseason long this is your boy wardy signing out let's go Mets baby [Music] peace
