North Carolina Tar Heels (Mack Brown) 2024 football schedule preview and point spread prediction

so today I'll be continuing with my schedule discussion and point spread prediction videos today I'll be doing North Carolina so it seems to me like Matt Brown has missed his chance to have a successful season in his actually second time as the head coach of North Carolina he was there right before he became the head coach of Texas and the 90s uh but um these past two seasons he's had uh Drake May who was a really good quarterback put up huge numbers both of the last two seasons and ended up getting pick number three in the draft a few uh days ago and uh they uh it seemed like could have uh at least won the AC C uh during that time probably not have made a college football playoff but uh because the ACC was already terrible these last two years and part of that being with the Clemson being not what they used to be and they couldn't get it done even with the Drake may they did make the ACC Championship 2022 but they got blown out by Clemson who was down that year still from uh what they were for a long time coached by davo Sweeny and then in 2023 uh they had uh a pretty high expectations they were supposed to have a good chance to win the conference with a drake May coming back at quarterback back uh now uh I wasn't really high on North Carolina last year I actually uh picked them to go eight and four when I did my own predictions before I was on YouTube and that's exactly what they did and then they went to eight and five after the bow loss but it looked like in the middle of the Season that they might be able to challenge it Florida State for the ACC Championship was they started six and0 but then they felt apart from there having a couple of uh losses that really made no sense to Virginia who was horrible and then Georgia Tech who also was not very good uh the Virginia loss was really crazy it made zero sense and uh now they lose Drake may you know and they brought in a transfer quarterback from Texas A&M who was their starting quarterback for most of last season and he's not a bad quarterback he did a decent job for them last season but he's not great he's a nowhere close to as good as Drake May is and he's not going to give them anywhere near the numbers that Drake May gave them these past two seasons and Matt Brown is way p pass his prime as a football coach uh he used to be for sure one of the top 10 football head coaches uh but now I don't even think he's in the top 20 he I I still think is a in the top half of the power fored coaches he's not a bad coach and he'll probably still have them winning seven or eight games this season uh but uh now uh he is getting old he's in his 70s and he's not going to be there much longer I know he'll either retire I'm pretty sure after this season or after this season after this one I think that this will be his last season as a North Carolina's head coach uh because uh even going back to his last few years as the head coach of Texas they had fallen apart from where they were and he's now not really had any good success since he's been back at North Carolina and uh so on this schedule they uh start the season on a Thursday on the road at Minnesota uh that will be a really tough game they actually played last year in North Carolina won pretty big but uh now I think North Carolina's uh not going to be as good and Minnesota I think will probably be a little better they're usually a decent team in the Big 10 I know they weren't very good last year but it's one North Carolina could win and uh then they get three uh easy wins uh in the non-conference against Charlotte North Carolina Central and James Madison Charlotte and North Carolina Central should be huge blowouts James Madison may not be quite as easy as the other two but they still really shouldn't have any problem beating them and then they start their conference schedule on the road at Duke this will be I still think a tough one even though Duke I don't think is going to be very good and I think they'll have a more of a drop off than North Carolina will uh but uh right now I would say that North Carolina could probably pull this one off uh and then Pittsburgh at home uh Pittsburgh was awful last year but we'll see if they can be decent this year they usually have been a somewhat decent team in the ACC so very winable but I wouldn't expect this one to be easy and then Georgia Tech at home uh Georgia Tech has beaten North Carolina both of the past two years when uh they did have an elite quarterback and now they don't uh so I really feel like uh Georgia Tech had a really good chance of upsetting North Carolina again uh but uh it being at home will give North Carolina a good chance in this game and then they take a week off uh before uh playing on the road at Virginia so uh Virginia is horrible and North Carolina I still think has a better roster than they do but this is a for sure a losable game because they couldn't beat them last year at home with Drake mayot quarterback and now it's on the road without him uh so um I think it really could go either way and then next on the road at Florida State second Road game in a row at a tough place to play against a team that I think is going to be quite a bit better than North Carolina I don't see them winning this one I don't really think it'll be that close and then they uh take another week off before Wake Forest at home now Wake Forest was really bad last year I still think North Carolina has a better roster than they do so uh right now it'd be one that You' think they could win but not for sure and then on the road at Boston College Boston College isn't usually very good but U I don't really know how this one will go uh it's not a tough place to play though at Boston College uh seems like a kind of a 5050 game to me and then NC State they lost to them both of the last two years and the uh NC State is expected to be a top 25 team again this year I know it's at home so that'll give him a good chance to pull it off but uh right now it seems like a likely win for NC State uh and uh North Car Carolina also is last in the ACC and returning production they only have a 37% returning production which that is not much uh so that's not good news for them uh now this is the point spread prediction so if you want to see more about how I do these you can watch my first one Ohio State but games in the green are games where I think North Carolina will be favored to win by a blowout 20 or more points and there's three of those Charlotte North Carolina Central and James Madison uh and games in the purple are games where I think they'll be favored to win by about a touchdown so six to9 points and there's two of those Pittsburgh and Wake Forest and then games in the Pinker games where I think they'll be favored by about a field goal so one to five points and there's five of those Minnesota Duke Georgia Tech Virginia and Boston College and games in the gray or games where I think North Carolina will be about a field goal underdogs so one to five points and there's a one of those NC State and then game in the orange are games where I think North Carolina will be a double digit Underdog but not a blowout Underdog so 10 to 19 points and there's one of those Florida State so Charlotte and North Carolina Central uh the spread in those should be around 40 points and James Madison uh that one may be in the higher 20s and uh Burg I think North Carolina with it being at home should be favored by about six points in that one and they'll probably be favored by about six against Wake Forest those though if they were Road games would be in the pink and Minnesota that's a tough one I could see it being a toss up or Minnesota even being favored because it's a home game up for Minnesota but right now I think North Carolina might be favored by a point or two in that game and then Duke I think North Carolina will be about a three-point favorite in that one and uh they'll probably be favored by around three Over Georgia tag because it's a home game now I do think they would be an underdog to Georgia tag if it was a road game and Virginia I think North Carolina will be favored by around five and that would make the purple if it was a home game uh and then Boston College North Carolina should be favored by about three in that game and uh NC State uh I think they'll be about a three-point favorite over North Carolina if that was the at NC State that would probably be in the yellow where uh North Carolina would be about a touchdown Underdog in Florida State I think the spread in that one will be around 10 points uh so I think they might be favored in pin games but they're not going to win all 10 that they're favored in or will probably be favored in I think they'll lose at least a
