well now to the latest on the investigation into the triple stabbing at a homeless encampment in Kingston two men were killed and a woman is still in hospital with life-threatening injuries a 47-year-old man is now facing murder charges the stabbing happened on Montreal Street near the safe consumption site and CV's Jack Richardson reports this horrific crime is now sparking a wider conversation about whether the spite the site rather should be shut down entirely a heavy police president remains at Kingston's integrated care Hub a day after a triple stabbing at the nearby homeless encampment there was one uh person on the ground his face completely covered in blood Ed Burl was on his way to work when he saw the incident unfold I could see police running across the street opposite to that and uh I noticed about maybe eight policemen involved in a bit of a standof after hours long standoff police arrested the suspect 47-year-old Andre warham now charged with two counts of second degree murder and one count of attempted murder police also identifying the two men who were killed 38-year-old Taylor Wilkinson and 41-year-old John Hood the third victim a woman remains in hospital with critical injuries I'm heartbroken and I'm angry by the senseless active violence that we saw here yesterday the mayor of King is calling for the immediate closure of the safe consumption site and the surrounding encampment we've had so many concerns as a city with what's been going on in the encampment around the integrated care Hub what I've called for is change there has to be a change mayor Patterson's stance on this matter has been controversial some have wondered if the integrated care Hub were to close and the encampment around it were cleared out where would those people go the mayor was responding reactively I don't think that would be a good decision at all to close the integrated care Hub it's not going to change anything about living in this area like they're still going to be in this area they're just not going to have like appropriate resources we want to continue to offer services but in a different way a different model that doesn't create an encampment around it that isn't going to create those issues in the neighborhood for now the safe consumption site will be closed for the next few days as police continue to investigate Jack Richardson CTV News Kingston
