joining us here on the drive live from ACC football kickoff uh Conor go ahead and throw that uh that headset on yes sir there we go uh we'll start with the important stuff how was the private jet on the way up here it was awesome I I I slept most of the way but it's always cool getting get ride of PJ all we're from the triangle also so when we drive we'll think of you guys over over top just uh getting your your way home quickly uh let's start with the bowl game last year uh obviously a huge opportunity for you to get your foot feet wet playing for for North Carolina what did you learn uh in that contest where you got to show off the wheels a little bit and and sling The Rock um I learned how important it is to uh protect my body you know you always people always say that but you know there's kind of a different mindset when when you're going to the game when you're trying to win it you know not really thinking as much but it's it's really important to stay healthy um I I feel like I you know tweaked my ankle early in the game and it affected the rest of the game uh and and then obviously you the the reason why you were given that chance is because Drake may had had uh declared speaking of protecting yourself Drake May especially last year was was running quite a bit and there were some times down in the goal line where where maybe he didn't what did you learn from watching him play and and do some of the things that you hope to do yeah no but Drake he played extremely loose and at the same time was really consistent um being able to to Really uh flirt the line with that is is I think really important as a quarterback you know not being able to say kind of you know I'm gonna I'm just going to play play loose and also being like I'm going my reads every time time every time you know I think it's a it's a hard line of balance but he did it really well and I hope to work that into my game Conor Harold sophomore quarterback for the North Carolina Tar Heels connecting with us here in Charlotte at ACC football kickoff Connor I have to say you seem extremely relaxed I've uh I've I've been a quarterback in a college football competition for for who's going to be the starter I've talked with a bunch a lot of times there's like a hesitancy you don't want to say the wrong thing like how are you mentally handling being in the middle of a Hy profile quarterback competition you know going into training camp um I I'd say I the the biggest way I handle it mentally is uh through God I'm a Christian and that's a big part of my identity um so I know that he has a plan for me uh I know that you know no matter what happens that he's still loves me and uh you know just just knowing that is brings a a big overwhelming peace in my life does does that allow you to or how is the the relationship with the other guys in the room uh that you're competing with because obviously you're all gunning for the same position no I say it's really good uh we spend a lot of time together um more time than you know anybody else on the team so as my roommates and uh and that brings you closer uh we all have the same goal when and win a championship and we're all trying to make each other better what do you want to what are you trying to show the coaches during training camp or you know before they make the decision that that you think is kind of your best argument to be the guy for the Tar Heels U I'm trying to show the coaches that I can show up make the throws make the right decisions day in and day out uh period after period practice after practice is um you know not showing too much up and down you know they want to they want a guy who's consistent they don't want a a guy that they don't know you know what's going to happen you know here or there and I think that's really important for me to do uh throughout this fall C uh I'm I'm going to use you as kind of our our Insider to UNC football uh we know about Omarian Hampton uh we know about JJ Jones uh who is going to surprise this year on on uncc's offense unc's offense Paul bips is gonna surprise this year he's a great receiver uh Christian Hamilton in the slot um y'all know Gavin black hole he caught some passes in the ball game but you know I I think those those guys are are underrated um yall know Chris culer but I feel like you know Paul and uh and Christian Hamilton get overlooked a lot um talk about on line and how and how big they are uh Trey Green and Howard Samson are going to make a huge a huge difference this year and also you know Malik mcgallen I don't think his name's you know been brought up enough he's in that that uh him and uh Jonathan adoro in the left guard spot you know battling out and whoever gets the job and they're going to be great they're both great people and extreme hard workers since you brought it up the offensive line those guys are Behemoth you guys have one of the biggest tallest College offensive lines I've seen in a while uh are are you having to do the Drew Brees thing where you you got to move left and right to find your your windows like like how difficult is that for for a quarterback uh no I wouldn't say it's too difficult um you know they they they do a good job and finding windows and uh I wouldn't feel like it's too different than than other tackles that you know I've played with it's just about you know you finding windows and and see seeing where you can uh one of the the the stories of of this week and and I don't know if it's still set up upstairs but I know it was earlier is is the college football 25 video game uh have have you played with it as your own digital self yeah I played once in our in our facility we we got a PlayStation up there and I played when it when it first came out and it was pretty cool and I seeing my name and stuff how how'd it go it went well I I I didn't even play a full game it was It was kind of up there just to just to get the the little experience but it went well is uh you know I've talked to a few players they're they're using it to learn the Playbook right how accurate are the plays in there did did you were you recognizing them and making the right reads uh I didn't play enough to to see the to see the correlation with our uh Playbook I don't I don't have a game system I don't play a lot my I see my roommates Glu to the TV they quacks can't be doing that right that's for that's for the other positions um Connor Harold sophomore quarterback UNCC joining us here at ACC football kickoff saw on social media recently that the uh the football team had a little workout by the way Brian hes your your strength and condition coach that was my strength and condition coach at Delaware that's awesome Brian has the man uh so I wasn't surprised when I saw that uh that you guys were having a little basketball workout uh because he's goingon to keep it fresh and he's going to make you work but he's going to keep you excited uh who's the best Hooper who who is out there kind of uh winning all the the competitions uh see I mean the quarterbacks won overall just want to point that out in our competition uh we we won we have a competition you know every like semester and we with Coach s everything's a competition but I'd say uh Bryce NE probably one of the best basketball players he's he's insane I I think we have a video on social media of him doing a wiill dunck but he's a freak athlete Bryson nesbet tight end uh also somebody that a lot of people are picking to uh be one of the the maybe breakouts for the this offense a big play threat because obviously you've lost a few players that were pretty good at at the the the deep deep ball and all that uh Bryson nzb give us your your we know he's a Hooper now uh give us how he can impact your offense yeah now he can um you don't have to worry about you know taking him out because he can block it he does not mind hitting at all and he can run routes like a receiver and that that's a scary thing to have on the field um so it's he's a he's a true meaning of a of a hybrid being able to play you know two positions um and so he brings a dynamic to the offense that it's hard to guard it's hard to game plan for now uh we already got one question for for Omarian who's we're going to talk to next uh from your coach ma Brown uh give us something we could ask Omarian that that nobody else has asked him that that you know about the uh your running back um ask him uh who won more shuttles this summer okay between you two all right I will absolutely I will absolutely do that uh Connor we appreciate you for hanging out omaran literally almost jumped at the mic on that one so I'm looking forward to the answer uh appreciate appreciate for stopping by and good luck this season yes sir all right we are we are gonna go ahead and get Omarian Hampton uh coming in iced out with the 28 pendant on his chain uh we are looking at a junior running back for UNCC one of the favorites to win a whole bunch of postseason Awards this year uh Omarian thank you for uh for joining us um I cheated on on this interview I I got a one question from your coach m brown and one question from uh Connor Harold to ask you uh Connor Harold wanted me to ask who won more shuttles this off season between uh you Omarian Hampton and and he sophomore quarterback Conor Harrell definitely me you can look yeah you look at you can look at the stats yeah there's somewhere we can check this no I didn't know you I mean I have them on my phone but okay ask Conor about it he'll show I don't know he told us to ask you I'm starting to feel like you guys might not agree um the uh the question I that that Coach Brown wanted me to ask you I think is is uh a more interesting one and less competitive um this off season running backs obviously were were wanted all across the the country and you definitely had uh choices to to move on with through the portal and and and and a you know all that comes with that right the offers and everything else why did you choose to stay I mean they always been there for me from the jump anything I need they got me he's always been there for me any like if any other the players ask for anything he's gonna get it instantly I feel like the offense fits me perfect right now and then I feel like it's just no reason for me I love here and and all right so the offense fits you you perfectly that being chip Lindsay's offense yeah uh how much does your job change or how much does the offense change when a guy like Drake May who's the third overall pick uh you know leaves the program uh Drake May he's super talented so obviously gonna be different but I feel like the quarterbacks that we have are all super talented and I feel like uh they always stay competing hitting up me hitting up the wide receivers constantly trying to get work in constantly trying to watch film I feel like whoever it's going to be is going to be great what is it like to be the the running back with that going on where there's a rotation and the person next to you is is changing so often I mean I'm excited for it because I just feel like it's so much talent it's like we can't go wrong get the way have you had the uh the conversation and we're talking with Omarian Hampton Junior running back UNC all ACC performer have you had the conversation with with all two or three of them that listen I whoever wins turnning handed off right like like let's make let's get your priorities straight because uh you know when the ball's in your hands good things happen for the Tar Heels uh no not really because it's it's a team effort so I feel like uh whatever chips ly game plan is that's that's what's gonna work at the end of the day so I feel like uh if I do my job they do their job offensive line do their job then it's all gonna work out uh another big change this year I guess the uh the offensive line uh the the the players you're running behind are going to be different have have you noticed anything changing uh for for you based on you know transfer portal guys or new guys stepping up under that offensive line yeah my offensive line is crazy this year I feel like it's the best I've been a part of ever because I feel like we have we have Willie lamin we have Austin from Georgia we have Howard he he's a he's a transferred in too then we have Lee he he's been here for a while so I feel like all those guys and just come in like all together I feel like it's going to be amazing now you show up with the uh the 28 dependent on your uh your chain here uh UNC I think it was arond Bott said he made $2 million while at UNCC oh yeah I'm not GNA ask for the dollar figure but are the collectives taking care of the the football stars as well uh yeah yeah they've been doing great yeah and and uh you know what what is that those types of relationships how how do they come about take us behind the I played college football long before nil was a thing so so I'm jealous let me live vicariously through you what are those relationships like yeah just meeting those guys getting to know all guys hanging out with them just uh them being there for us too it's it's just not just the coaches and like Matt Brown It's just them too just being there for us and then knowing they have our back is I feel like is really important all right om Marian we we are really appreciative for you to give us uh give us this time I got the uh the old rra it up behind you so uh we'll move on but uh but I appreciate you and good luck this season all right appreciate it thank you
