who have now won nine out of their last 10 games trying to hand the buckos a 10th consecutive loss on the hill for San Diego the former pirate left-hander Martin Perez making his third start for the uh unlike any they have ever been on before winners of 18 out of their last 21 games and we've watched it unfold right in front of us it it's been a heck of a show yeah they're they're on a a bit of a heater as we like to say in this game and uh they're really playing all facets of the game at a very very high level the execution is at a very very high level and one thing you do know about Major League Baseball if you are getting good pitching you're going to be a tough team to beat on top of the other things that the Padres are doing well they are getting some outstanding pitching here in this home stand so far starting pitching and relief pitching as well and that's kind of the fun thing you know I mean 18 and three over the course of a 3-we period it's going to have to be done different ways different nights and there was a point where the starting pitching was being picked up by the bullpen and the offense Musgrove a little bit shorter because of the pitch count on Monday didn't allow a run in four and a third Michael King yesterday six shutout Innings good to see this turn of the rotation beginning that way yeah there's no doubt and that's such a great point this team has has really shown really throughout the entire season that they can win in a bunch of different ways that last road trip they only got a couple good starts from their starters but they were picked up by the bullpen and by the offense and now they come home for this short home stand and they really flipped that on his head the offense hasn't been able to put up the type of run total that we saw on that road trip however the pitching has thrown up zeros and it's been quite fun to watch on a nightly basis tell you who has thrown the ball very well is Martin Perez on the Bound for the third time as a padre here this afternoon this guy has just come in and uh looked like a robot out there or a machine I mean fitting right I mean everybody who's had to step in for somebody or at different points in in the season seemingly have all come through Martin perz has been no different he's come in and and really thrown the ball I think exceeded expectations to this point and right now the is not a thing you often see in this sport yeah even though they mean the exact same thing 18 and three I think sounds a whole lot better and that's just to kind of highlight how well this Padre team has been playing baseball really since the second half they have played almost flawlessly yeah it is 18 and3 in their last 21 18 and four since the break remember they lost that first game in Cleveland coming out of the All-Star break pretty remarkable uh what this team and Arizona and the Dodgers have done in the second half Padres 18-4 Arizona 19-5 the rers 15- 8 those are the three teams literally with the best records in all of baseball since the All-Star break and they are all bundled up now at top the National League West Diamondbacks by the way have a 4 nothing lead over Colorado after one inning this afternoon they're playing over at Chase Field Dodgers will play in Milwaukee at 510 Pacific and the Giants at home against the Braves tonight as well but it's been um still getting results and just pitching a little bit differently now as a 28y old coming into today's game he's having a pretty good year I mean good erra 10 wins on the year but it is different and you know maybe this is him you know maturing in realizing that you know an out is an out whether it's a strike out a ground out or fly out that's those are the things you're searching for first and second one away now for Jackson Merill left-handed batter of course swings at the first pitch lines it just fair down the right field line it's going to roll all the way to the corner rorth is scored
