turn to the aftermath of a weekend of wild weather Heavy Rain flooding stranded drivers and even a tornado ctv's rahee ladani joins us live in studio with the details on all the weather wos Raheem well Michelle and Nathan one of the fascinating aspects of this weekend storm is just how localized the flooding was parts of downtown Toronto received only 3 and a half millimeters of rain while as we're about to show you at home areas in Miss Saga were hit with 170 mm of rain watch as fire Crews tightly hold on to a men who became trapped in kneee water as it rushed through this Miss Saga intersection on Saturday it was one of the many dramatic and frantic rescues over the weekend as localized flooding submerged neighborhoods in the GTA the water was probably two 3 4T above the actual Road itself so I mean it's pretty wild to see quite a few of our cars got wrecked in the parking lot they floated away the torrential downpour continued through the weekend with portions of Highway 410 forced to shut down as water overflowed the medians and submerged several vehicles at one point emergency responders rescued the occupants of five vehicles who became trapped while other Crews floated down the roadway clearing blocked catch basins to help the water recede the summer unfortunately of 2024 has been the summer of the Deluge uh we can go a number of days without getting much in the way of rainfall and then suddenly make up for it with huge amounts of rain falling in a relatively short period of time this is now the wetest June July and August at pieron airport ever recorded meanwhile south of kitner in the township of air look at the rotate the active weather escalated into a tornado touching down as a category ef1 this viewer video captured debris flying through the 165 km an hour wind speeds was immediate there was huge huge wind and trees uh buckling in down the river we're lucky the house wasn't wrecked today the community is cleaning up the trail of Destruction Left Behind after the tornado carved a nearly 5 km path there's a lot of tree damage and a lot of trees down and uh uh it's just absolutely amazing that uh no one was injured down in that district with weather events becoming more frequent and intense the insurance industry is calling on all levels of government to step up flood mitigation efforts last month several parts of Toronto and Southern Ontario were submerged by torrential rainfall the Insurance Bureau of Canada says that two-day event alone caused more than $940 million in insured damage we can get these strong thunderstorms capable of producing flash floods and hail and damaging winds and tornadoes right into the end of the month of September meaning the greater trono areia could see more damage in the coming months as for the tornado in air while it has been categorized as an ef1 experts are now combing through drone and satellite footage to see if it should be rated higher reporting live I'm rahee Lani Michelle I'll send it back to you thank you Raheem and
