welcome everyone to Tucson Arizona Arizona Stadium where this red and blue crowd ready to Bear down with their wild cats little gets to blood boiling quite like a rivalry game barbs shots trash talk things that go on throughout the week will now all be settled on this field as we'll see a squad from the Mountain West the New Mexico Lobos taking on the 16th ranked team in the land the Arizona Wildcat for EA Sports college football ree Davis with you alongside David Pollock and Jesse Palmer and guys can't wait to get this one started and the Lobos will kick it away to start us [Applause] off here he comes from inside his own five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 so the Arizona Wildcats offense will get the first possession of the game and the adrenaline is pumping on overd Drive in games like this guys and it's crucial to get your emotions under control no doubt in rivalry games you've got to limit the mental errors and you've got to limit the penalties cuz those will kill you p and you got to come out under control it means so much we know that the fans are all talking about it but it's just football well you love to see this offensively on the first drive of the game your quarterback taking a shot down the middle of the defense finding a guy for a big play and the Wildcats racing to the line in the hurry up they go to the ground you'll take four yards on first down every time second and six we had a barn burner the last time these two teams played and no reason to expect anything else between these two bitter Rivals attention to detail and I think the sense of urgency David in a game like this just goes way up and I think managing the emotions in these type of games you you know last year was a classic now you're trying to form this year's identity of this team and go out and get a win in a big time rivalry game and as an offense having success on a run play like that early in the game just opens up all the possibilities of your playbook moving forward play action running the ball throwing the ball screens anything is at your disposal at this point it'll be a run on Third and short that'll be enough for the first down as they stop him at the 43 yd line and I think on that last run play on third down here early in the game they're making a statement that we believe we're the more physical team and we're going to run the football even if you know it's coming at you nice job they've got the ball at Midfield I expect to see more run plays coming up they've got him looking run now they're going to throw it fires to the right receiver wasn't ready for the throw incomplete the QB had all day to throw the football that's the good news the bad news is he couldn't find anybody open and couldn't deliver the ball to him so let's see if they can get some chemistry going with the wide receiver and quarterback throughout this game after misfiring it's second down the give to the single back only a couple there and now staring at third and eight the biggest lie college football coaches tell is nameless faceless opponent David game like this you know their name and you know their face you know them well and it does mean just a little bit more because it's bragging rights like the rivalries matter so much all throughout the year all the fans talking about this game in particular that's why it means more and that's why these players will be jacked out of their minds and the catch with one thing and the Run even better a big pick up on that one wow and what a great job by that quarterback finding his open receiver on third down you know guys one of the most telling stats at the end of the game is third down conversion percentage if you're a great third down team it's invaluable to your offensive success and that's why teams drill third down so much in practice the quick out and they wrap him up but not before he's got enough for the first down receivers work tirelessly tapping that toe along the sideline and it just looks so natural for him yeah it can't just be Pat and go all the time right ree's just jogging down the field ball hits you right and stride you got to be able to make awkward body catches and do it getting your feet in bounds that was sweet On The Run it's Haynes gets it all all the way down to the 2yd line he was fighting for that end zone I think it's really important for this offense they get this guy going early in the game and they're doing a nice job of that right now remember he's the kind of running back who gets better as the game goes on that's a really good omen for this offense considering his success now early pushes toward the goal line and he's going to take it to the house touchdown Arizona and they just keep feeding it to their Workhorse back to open this game great job in the open field he's got tremendous Vision he can make people miss you saw all of that on display here in the opening [Music] drive lining up to Attack One More onto that lead and with the extra point they get the first seven of the game so a drive there of 82 yds and finish to deal with the short touchdown run from the [Music] two the kickoff team out there and ready to [Applause] go on the move from inside is five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 the Lobos offense will go to work for the first time as we take a look at our impact players for this game David what do you look for to make an impact from your leaders your leaders not only have to lead the football team but they got to step up and make plays on the field keep everybody calm these guys typically do a really good job of it yeah David and they also generally set the tone for their respective fo football teams regardless of which side of the ball they play on the teammates look towards them to step up in big games like [Music] this picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down they'll leave it with him and knock him down after a gain of three to the 23 you know I think a big part of this isn't necessarily scoring a touchdown on that plate but you're just trying to get your offensive line in the rhythm of the game what those Big Fellas get lathered up how bold will they be on third down after that last run looking to throw it's dampier and he got a hand in there knocks it away incomplete and I like the aggressiveness on Third and short trying to throw the football take advantage of a look that they got they weren't successful and now it's Fourth and short territory who knows what they're going to do the Lobos will send out the punt unit getting our first look of the afternoon at the punter on the return it's McMillan they'll put a stop to that return as he gets it up to the 41 yd line Arizona sending the offense onto the field Jesse looking to take it down the field for back-to- back touchdowns I think it's really important for them moving forward too to have a lot of balance right you want to be able to keep this defense guessing poock yeah and you got me searching for answers after that last drive you stack another drive on and it looks as if they've buzzed down replay wants to have another Peak at that last play and the play will stand after the replay booth just does a little double-checking to make sure they'll Run play action quick strike complete put it right on him sweet play good pick up and they'll move the chain with the first down and a great job by the QB finding the running back getting the football where he can do some damage after the catch and most importantly get the first down now from the 36 yd line it's first and 10 quarterback touch pass on the jet suep they'll pick up four second and Six coming and these little touch passes man they're just the easiest completions ever for qubs Palmer I bet you would have loved being able to just Flip It Forward that counts as to your completion percentage which is good and then it's all run after the catch so pretty easy for a QB you wouldn't have been the only All-American in this booth David if I were allowed to put have Push passes when I was playing quarterback I'll tell you that it is so hard to defend it's so hard to seal that edge especially when this guy's Full Speed Ahead coming around the outside and he was loose and in the open field and on his way a tremendous pick up on that one I tell you what that's great execution between the QB and receiver they look like they could execute that throw in their sleep quarterback took his steps threw it on time great route by the receiver nice job securing the catch on first and goal let's see what Arizona does fast motion from the offense they're going to give it to the wide receiver on first and goal and he's sprinting he'll take it all the way touchdown Wildcats [Music] they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point makes it 14 nothing a very efficient five play scoring drive and he found his way to the end zone from the seven to cap it almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown and he takes this from inside the five really dis job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 let's see what the Lobos offense has dialed up this time to say this has been a slow start is a bit of an understatement and they really need to get it going here Jesse that's right the opponent they're firing on all cylinders right out of the gate offensively for this unit they've been slow and struggling they need an explosive play to wake themselves up yeah and it's just the first quarter so it's not the end of the world you've seen slow starts but you got to continue to pick and pick and pick until you find that play or or that scheme that you can use against this defense they'll ride the running back and leave it with him it's a fumble defense just cradling that fumble and securing it and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball back for its own [Music] that's the end of the quarter and Arizona has the lead here they came out and jumped on them early in the first let's take a break and look at the first quarter steps now the challenge here they've taken a punch but they can't let it get out of hand as we start the second the run from the shotgun they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one don't you love energetic defenses that fly around that make things happen the ones that get in the back field the running back tries to go somewhere where do you want them to go there there is nowhere to go nice job by the defense creating the tackle for a loss on first down didn't get much done on that first play of the drive it's second and 11 looking for a crease it's Hayes makes it pass to marker and he'll pick up the first down after a tough run there this running back loves running into the teeth of the defense in between the tackles he keeps a low pad level and he's got some speed now down to the 12 yd line it's first down power football with the Run he all almost punched it in for six they'll get him down at the one yd line and I don't care if I get it by two by 20 by 30 by 40 I I just I just want to get the first down understanding the situation understanding where the sticks are doesn't have to be sexy but I got to make sure I get to that stick get to the first down marker the Wildcats line it up with a first and goal they'll try to get it in with the run and he takes it in for the score touchdown Arizona a quick strike just as we expected yeah and quick strikes are easy when you got such a great field position obviously when the offense starts in such a good spot puts the defense in a bad position and the offense takes [Music] advantage lining up to attack one more onto that lead and with the extra point they pushed the lead out a little further quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and they capped it off with a one yd punch lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown [Applause] Drive he'll bring it back from inside his five obliterates him still on the move this guy makes you hold your breath when he gets the football in his hands and that last line of the coverage team the only thing that stopped him from housing it off the play fake on first down to throw blasted as he lets it go he makes a catch and a big time grab there knocked down immediately but not before he gets it to the 40 man it's nice having a QB that is going to hang in there you could tell hanging in there he knows he's going to get hit right if I'm going to get hit I might as well make a completion great job hanging in there throwing the football on Target and getting the completion now the play fake starting to feel a little pre and he tries to get away but he cannot he's taken down he'll lose a couple they tried to go play action but that did not affect the defensive tackle he was Bull rushing his guy collapsing the pocket he comes away with a sack they gave up the sack on first down now it's second and 11 on the move it's Danier throws to the wide out it's caught downfield they get him on the ground after he gets enough to move the sticks when you run those routes those curl routes just like that those DBS are going to break when you go to throw the football so you better put that thing on a line and the QB did there put it on a line great job great catch first down this first half of offense won't go on the Highlight Reel so far but starting to get things moving it's first intent fires deep toward the end zone and the pass is incomplete but it might not matter flag is down and it looked as if the defense was roughing up that receiver and the defender just way too hand on that last play you could see all the contact as the ball was in the air you simply can't do it and the referee's caught it trying to find his man on first down this time he's got him that completion will take them inside the 10 to the N yd line well it's a nice job by the defender there're closing the Gap with the wide receiver they're going to complete the hitch pass but he's able to run right up on him get him to the ground for a minimal game operating in the Red Zone here on second down wide out in motion trying to beat them to the edge with the Jet Sweep a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior it's so hard because when they run jet sweeps they don't always give them the football and then you got to worry about other stuff but great job focusing on your keys seeing the Jet Sweep pulling the trigger going and getting the Speedster on the ground the terrain gets rough this deep in the Red Zone third down they can pick up the first without scoring oh they really could have used that catch their physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down got to give the defense credit on that play taking everything away forcing the incompletion now it's decision time fourth and short in your in field goal range what do you do here they'll try to get something out of this drive and kick the field goal here on fourth down and he'll try it from the right hash and the angle shouldn't be too bad from this distance and the kicker delivers the three to salvage set Drive [Music] after putting up the field goal they're set to kick it away he'll start the return inside his five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 Arizona has it back the offense coming out to Bear down this has been exactly the way you draw things up David the offense has really been moving the football and it's been great execution they've done exactly what they've wanted to do build the lead now Palmer is a different animal now you got to protect it you can tell they were paying attention in practice this week in the film room because they have gone out everybody right now on the same page after getting knocked back to open this drive it's second and 12 takes the hand off it's Haynes push his way ahead really good run to get it out to the 20 a pick up of five just a simple power play Power football be strong be big be physical make it a fourth quarter game make them feel you keep them off balance if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum the give to the back got enough for the first down and wants more and with that effort they pick up a fresh set of downs they have it at the 34 yd line big third down conversion getting the ball to your running back and he does does the rest this guy I think will get a lot more touches and you want to know why he's on the field on third down cuz he can block he can catch the ball and you can also hand it off to him and he can go find the sticks and keep drives alive what a weapon Arizona going back to work with another first down softened him up with a run and now to throw grabbed in the middle it's McMillan and how about that catch and run so dangerous this guy well you know who's got to love this offense picking up so many first downs it's their own defense David I know you loved playing on teams with great offenses it'll be a first down from the 49 yd line wide receiver shows motion he wants to throw spits it out to the back wide open man and they are finding some space in this defense he's got down to the 25 another first down man this this defense this defense couldn't stop a nose bleed right now it's that bad this offense absolutely humming as they come to the line again to the air it's faf gets it out fast they make the stop right there good pickup it's still short of the first down looks as if we have an injury on that last play and we'll take a break to check him out Arizona has it in the Red Zone quarterback wants to throw on second down gets it out quickly and he'll be taken down but he does have enough for the first down well we knew coming into this game this offense was going to try and get this receiver involved and get him involved early so here they are just finding an easy completion it's not a touchdown but they just want to get this guy lathered up and get him into a rhythm on first down from the 13 yd line he's going to pass caught over the middle it's Murphy they get it down to the seven on that pass play in Prime position for a score apparently some confusion as the offense calls the timeout it's their first of the half going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone wants to fire on second down it's complete so close to that end zone he could almost taste it but it'll be first and goal for this offense nice Patience by the quarterback here working against Zone coverage he was allowing his receiver an opportunity to find that open space in the defense before pulling the trigger this offense has been a juggernaut and they have a chance to pad their total just before halftime and they just tried to slam it in from the doorstep but they went nowhere and it'll be marked down at the one how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad intentions had it in his hands for the score and let it fall to the turf it'll be third down well after throwing that incompletion down here on the one yard line if you're on the offense let's get back to running the football let's see if we can be the more physical side get some pushup front and run this thing in for a touchdown they got nothing and liked it or probably didn't like it on the last play now it's third and goal touchdown Wildcats and they take it in for six more points wow this offense they have a lot of faith in this running back knowing if they get down in this area of the field he can get it done and he can answer the Bell two rushing touchdowns already for this [Music] offense lining up for the Pat and the extra point gives him a 283 lead foul kick the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty so they got the touchdown and as they kick off really important for the defense to shut them down here a little over 20 seconds to play in the half as they take it on first and 10 he wants to start this drive with a pass fires downfield picked off bringing it back not only a great play but tremendous discipline by this sophomore to make the pick I love when people start to understand what we're doing defensively if they're going to pass the football and that's that where they're going to live well I'm going to live in dying I'm going to bring more defensive backs on the field so I can cover more of these speed guys that they have out there great job by the defensive back breaking on the football making the int making the DC look very smart just a few seconds remaining here as they try to put something up before halftime he's got it on the run that completion will take it close to the 5 yd line they'll mark it at the [Music] [Applause] six they'll use a timeout right before half halftime maybe time for one or two more plays so they'll send out the field goal unit and this one shouldn't be too taxing a 23 yd try right down the boulevard it's good and that lead grows even bigger so as it turns out a two-play drive result in a field goal [Music] that late in the half field goal always gives you a little boost going to the locker room and they'll need to finish off these final few seconds and not allow them to answer looking for an alley from inside his own 10 and the return man has no place to run no place to hide and a place to be tackled that's going to wrap up the first half here and now we join Kevin with a halftime update phyas what an environment there today all the animosity and Flatout hatred that comes with a good oldfashioned rivalry game on display in that first half and we've got to start our halftime breakdown with this Superstar running back his elusiveness his raw power this young man is the total package and his ability to catch the ball out of the back field is a differentiator a lot of guys can hit the hole this kid can hit the hole and hit the home run in the passing game with that let's throw it back to the guys to see how this rivalry matchup plays out on the run from inside his own five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 we will get another look at this New Mexico offense huge deficit to start this third quarter they just need to find something to build a little confidence yeah it hasn't gone well um when you're trailing by this much this first drive man does everything matter in hinge on this cuz every possession in the second half is going to be critical yeah and I think if you're on offense why hold back what are you worried about nothing went well in the first half for you and at this point trailing by as much as you are throw costume to the wind be aggressive unless just see what happens going to run it it's Henry into the pile maybe got one he stopped at the [Music] 21 how bold will they be on third down after that last run try and play action and the third down pass is incomplete well after struggling so much in the first half you thought they would have made some adjustments here at halftime to see if they can open up this passing game but early on in the second half they're just not really able to get that done incompletion on third down in your own end you're expecting them to punt and the Lobos will punt it away on fourth down this will be the second time they've had to kick it away running it back it's McMillan this guy is a daring punt return man he's not going to settle for the fair catch a solid return gets a little bit of ground for the offense off the play fake on first down it's caught he'll work his way down to the 28 throwing the comeback looks like such a simple throw but the timing is so important and as a quarterback man this is all about trusting your guy you know exactly where he's going to sit it down you anticipate it you throw it you know he's going to come back and make that play for you wide receiver coming across in motion here's the handoff knocked down after a three yd gain to the 25 you know it's so important for offens is to want to keep third Downs manageable the way you do that is by having success like that running the football on first down got three on first down it's second and seven dropping back it's faf got the Quick Pass he's really close to that first down marker but they stop him just a bit short the defense has their hands full trying to stop this guy in the slot they're going to have to figure something out to bracket him try and get two bodies around and maybe get some safety help as well cuz right now they do not have the answer for this guy Arizona will try to pay off this Red Zone trip they'll try to pick it up on the ground they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one you can't let the same guy beat you over and over and over again you got to make adjustments sometimes you got to bring more guys in the Box more guys to the football and make sure he's not the one who beats you and they'll send out the field goal unit from the left hash he'll try to bend in a 37 y it is good and that'll add three more to a lead that is already way out of hand [Music] they keep pushing that lead out and the kickoff team's getting some work bringing it out not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 let's see what the Lobos offense has in store the last time we saw this offense we had to look quick it was a three and out Jesse he just had no r R in that last drive so someone's going to have to step up and make a play David and get this thing going yeah let's find some juice find your guy find those plays that you know you can run inside out forward backwards get some first downs get some positive momentum that's the type of explosive play you love to start a drive with first down from the 42 give to the back one step WRA Two Step squee this junor knows how to get him on the ground and sticking to the run I tell you what a lot of teams that are really good are really stubborn and they continue to run the football even with little success so this offense is going to continue to focus on running the football you can tell didn't get much on first down it's second and nine the playaction fake right down the middle got him downfield they are finding soft spots in this defense he's got it down to the 25 and four verticals can work against a lot of different kinds of coverages it doesn't necessarily have to be three Defenders back deep that time the defense went too high and the quarterback found the pocket down the boundary to his wide receiver great job in search of their first touchdown of the game they are on the move with a first and 10 quick release on the RPO this quarterback right now is in a Groove and he's doing a nice job in creas snap he's reading the coverage and he's getting an idea of where he wants to go with the football that's why the ball's coming out of his hands so quickly that's why he seems like he's in a great Rhythm right now the defense is backed up as the offense is in the red zone looking to throw it's dampier and the pass is incomplete thanks to a big hit [Music] that last incomplete pass has him staring at a third and three on Third and short they'll try to pick it up with the p and it's picked off at the goal line that's one way to make a stop going the other way and he's got room he's inside the 40 he's at the 20 and he's going to take it all the way touchdown Arizona the DB saw it he thought don't drop it don't drop it then thought don't get caught don't get caught and he didn't the pick six hey these guys can play offense too now look at this I showed you I can be a wide receiver coach might split him out at wide receiver next week after making that big play but defense great job making the interception and you're right doing something with it don't just slide down don't be content take that thing all the way back brother they'll try to add another to their lead and with the extra point the lead is even bigger [Music] they'll kick it off and send that defense right back out there to try to score again after the pick six he'll return it not nearly as much as he' hoped when he brought it out of the end zone he'll be stopped at the 15 now New Mexico will go back to work on offense this possession will be a test after squandering that long drive throwing a a pick six Jesse you're right reys well I think this is really dependent too on the leaders in this huddle right now to step up and help this offense get back on Pace here on this drive yeah and this defense is froing at the mouth they're excited they're jacked up they just made a big play they got all the momentum so they're ready to hunt didn't get much on first down it's second and nine looking for a man it's dampier fires to the big fella and that is good versatility there and a big hit from the backer in pass coverage a nice job by the defense there tackling the catch and smothering the tight end they know this offense is going to try to find him in the passing game and a lot of different situations that time perfect coverage and nice job bringing the big guy down not easy to do on third down he drops to throw and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knocked the ball to the ground fourth down coming up the Lobos will try to pin them back with the punt he'll bring it back it's McMillan smashes through the tackle the solid return there offsets some of the punt yardage and really sets up this offense nicely he'll start this drive firing the short hands it's Conley excellent job working through the air they finding a hole in that defense and picking up a first down you know it's a nice throw by by the QB there when you're throwing to running backs you got to make it easy on them so you want to put it right on their body make the catch simple and let them go to work like they did just there getting that first offense lines up for a first and 10 from the 43 from the gun running back on the Move able to pick his way forward for a decent game before the defense gets him down a lot of times defense is Blitz to stop the run this very play right here buts the linebacker but man the offense did a great job everybody understood what they saw running back understood pick up a nice positive gain when they were trying to get a blitz and maybe create a tackle for a loss off play action throwing right got his man that's the end of the quarter and Arizona has the lead here this has been a complete obliteration so far as the third quarter stats will'll show you so will the beat down continue or is this a comeback for the ages in store we'll see as we start the fourth looking downfield it's Fafa got his man quickly wow the quarterback knew he had to get that one to his receiver quickly on the end route did you see the velocity on that throw Arizona has it in the Red Zone run in the Red Zone it's Hayes pushing ahead a tough run picks up four it's down at the 15 I think you run that play so you stay out of third and long third and long is not where an offense ever wants to thrive third and medium hey I'm good with that so you run that play to make sure you're set up for a good third down trying to pick up a first down looking to throw for it using the quick game touchdown Arizona and The Stomping has commenced now they have extended this lead guys starting to put the hammer but sometimes a rivalry game can give you a little of extra fight back and there can be no Panic at this point now you've worked too hard this offseason David they've had this game Circle for so long you've got to play your best football right now and fight back and you just need something good to happen on this next possession you got to get the crowd back into this football game big rivalry get some emotion get some momentum on your side lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the extra point will tack another one onto this lead lead so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they finish it up with a 15yd scoring toss about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown and he's coming out of the end zone bulldozes his way through he stopped short of the 20 at the 19 and probably wishes he had just taken the Touchback back to pass it's Danier setting up the screen he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense the offense has struggled they're not going to win this game but trust me this coaching staff is still trying to find things to build off of for next week and after an explosive play like that maybe they can generate just a little bit of momentum and gain a little bit of confidence that they can keep coaching up heading into their next game that's caught it's Sullivan they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker this offense has their work cut out for him man because the coverage has been so tight and if you're not throwing to the sideline or you're not getting past the sticks this defense is going to tackle you inbounds like they just did on that last play and bleed the clock he's looking for a man on second down fires to the wide out wide open downfield defense on skates that time they finally drag him down at the 42 I know we're a long way up here in the booth but guys y'all remember that ball you could throw that whistled that thing was whistling it had so many RPMs on it and the lows will have it first and 10 looking to move it through the air moves around to clear up the vision he's going to take off a really nice run and gain and he gets down to avoid taking punishment yeah I think you're just seeing the experience this guy has right he's so poised and initially he's flushed out of the pocket nothing's open and he doesn't panic he's not throwing it away he's not sliding early he just knows where the defense isn't and he's able to attack that space with his speed and get a positive play he'll come out throwing on first down looking to the big tight end makes a connection and they finally get him stopped but it's a big throw and catch and he's down at the five they say tight ends are a quarterback's best friend in the past game because think about it the tight ends the guy lined up closest to the quarterback which means generally those are the easiest throws a quarterback has you saw it on that play the Lobos have it with a first and goal they'll try to get it in with the run and he'll find The End Zone touchdown New Mexico yeah and listen that that is awesome to see the guys continue to fight continue to keep competing because this game is over like we don't need to fool y'all we're not trying to get y'all to stick around and improve ratings like the game's over but you're continuing to fight you're powered in for the touchdown and show your kids that we're going to always fight no matter what the score is Pat unit on the field splits the uprights so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they punctuated it with the 5yd touchdown run they're lining up to boot it away here he comes from inside his own five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 Arizona sending the offense onto the field motion from the offense on the ground trying to pull the plug on this clock getting behind those pads and behind a stiff arm to get it out to the 27 really nice awareness by that guy too because it looked as though his momentum might carry him out of bounds might stop the clock but he knew to get down he was fighting to make sure he fell down in the field to play and as a result the clock keeps ticking
