good morning guys what's going on it is September 8th day of Our Lord 2024 uh it is Sunday morning we are recapping the Nicholls State LSU game LSU comes out a little lackluster to say the least kind of not what uh LSU fans were hoping for um uh the team seemed to struggle a little bit out of the gate um but with the the way these these kinds of games go uh I always believe that you're always going to come out of this game with more of a negative feel than a positive feel like there was nothing that LSU was going to do in this football game that was going to make you feel better about anything that you were feeling after the USC game and it's been like that for the Last 5 Years right um they've been able to bounce back and win these types of games right and sometimes win them convincingly sometimes s they look like gluster um last night just wasn't the the feeling wasn't there they just weren't uh it didn't feel very motivated to go out there and prove a point type thing um I'm not saying that they didn't give great effort cuz I felt like they did I just felt like they just kind of went through the motions and um and just just weren't ready to play uh uh Brian Kelly mentioned in his postc conference um that he thought they were fatigued um I don't really buy that um we're we're two weeks into the football season you had yeah you had some travel yeah you played a day later um but at the end of the day uh I really wanted LSU to take this as an opportunity to get better and I feel like they didn't really use this as an opportunity to do that um and I'll kind of break down what I'm talking about because it's not necessarily the final score for me um and how they look doing it it's about what they need to work on and what they refuse to do still um the USC game breakdown right it's all about the Run game it's it's getting better at blocking it's it's finding out the Personnel you need to be successful running the football with the running backs um and not necessarily having to just air it out all the time and you went into this game and you threw the ball 75 80% of the time so you didn't really Asser your will like I was hoping that you were going to do against Nicholls that was my biggest concern um obviously the defense had their issues but I I honestly just feel like that's more of just lack of focus um um than than anything else I'm not going to read into it too much um but LSU's got to get right man they go to they've got to figure things out I kind of try to take things on a week-by-week basis here um early in the season especially but but I think LSU is flirting with a dangerous game um and the inconsistency and um the lack of depth they have at certain positions on the defense kind of limit them to what they can do um I think you're really putting yourself in a tough spot this weekend um going to South Carolina uh a team that just won at Kentucky very impressive win um it's going to be it's going to be a tough game for LSU no doubt this is a game that you know South Carolina circled um Big Time atmosphere expected even though it's a noon kickoff college game day is going to be there all that good stuff so for LSU to be LSU they just have to work on themselves and I felt like they had a great opportunity to do that this weekend and they chose not to do it we saw Gary NM throw the ball 40 times you know um kind of just doing their own thing you know just throwing deep shots and stuff I'm not necessarily like complaining about the offense or anything like like that I just wanted to see LSU try to establish the running game um in this game and try to figure out what they were going to do later on the season because that's going to have to happen eventually um this team is going to have to jail um you're hoping you can get through this little four game stretch here um 4- one that way you can go into Old Miss and then by that time you know you've kind of figured things out uh that's that's the Hope right but but seeing what I saw yesterday and the lack of effort and focus uh it just didn't feel like the kind of bounce back everybody wanted and like I said I'm not going to harp too much on it like it's not the end of the world that they didn't play well against niichel State and they could easily come out next week and win and everything will be fine and they go into Old Miss 4- one and we're talking about a whole different thing but there was just certain areas I thought they needed to work on and that they chose not to and guys I wanted to see run the football and and blocking schemes and all of that stuff because I don't think it's a lack of the talent on the offense I just think it's a lack of execution which mean happens in reps team is tremendous at pass blocking like they're the probably the best pass blocking team in the country which is going to help you a lot this weekend because South Carolina's defensive line is really good um they got a lot of pressure on the quarterback this weekend and in week one so you're going to need them to be great at pass protection but when you to run the ball I want to feel comfortable that on Third and one and fourth and one like LSU can hand the ball off and get a yard you know and I don't feel comfortable saying that right now without jayen Daniels back there and I think that's a lot of the thing with the offense also that people are misund understanding is that this isn't jayen Daniels and you should appreciate what Jaden Daniels did because jayen Daniels was awesome um and it looks completely different than when he was at the helm and that's okay because you can still be successful um with it being apples to oranges like it's not a a mirror image of each other like gar NM and Jane DS couldn't be more of a different player uh but Gary nire has his own strengths and and he's really good at what he does best and I think that people are overreacting that he's not playing well I think he's playing tremendously um I think I don't think the play calling is really an issue I think the execution is an issue you know there's certain things that I'd like to see them do better obviously on the offensive side but all of that pertains to the blocking schemes and how they're running the football and maybe like getting gar nme to keep the ball every now and then to keep teams honest because in USC you saw it uh defensive eventss crashing and selling out for running backs and all you have to do is pull it one time or run a slight a little RPO maybe hit Mason Taylor in the flat type thing um to kind of get them to not cheat and because once you start cheating and you prove that hey they're not doing this like it's a full on and go like you're good you you don't even worry about that other responsibility anymore if you're the defensive end so this game had a lot of es and flows obviously LSU starts off well with the safety scoring a touchdown and then it kind of the whole first half was just kind of a blur um Nichol state was able to run the ball right up the middle on LSU um a couple long runs um I think it was was a 15-play drive right before half you missed the field goal Ryan Kelly's hot team is not playing extremely well I believe it was 23 I don't remember what the score was at halftime but you know you open the second half and then Nicholls comes and scores and it's 2321 immediately in the second half and you're thinking like is this like really even happening um and I can think that's where a lot of LSU fans are growing their frustrations because um they expected to see a better performance and I agree they should have got a better performance but like I said it's not all Apples to Apples like each week is its own different animal like you can't treat this week like you treated the UFC week or next week when you treat South Carolina like it's not all the same and to think that players play with the same aggression and motivation as they should but it's just human nature you take uh the anxiety level goes down for these types of games like you're not as on pins and needles every single play doesn't mean as much because you know in the back of your mind like you're going to beat this team and it's a semi buy game is what I like to call them because you kind of get extra players in there you get a lot of rotations um not a lot of continuity there um but like I said that's not an excuse to for the lack of isical play but that's just kind of my opinion on the whole situation like you know if they would have played South Carolina this week and looked bad like this and won 44 to whatever like nobody be even bat in the eye right um so this everything that this team has is right in front of them um everything they had to play for is is right here at the helm but it all starts on Saturday getting that first Conference win this is not going to be um a cakewalk that most people think I think uh it's it's just not it's this is a sec team um there's not many teams in the SEC team with the way you're playing um that you're just going to walk in and steamroll you know no offense to the people out there that have these big minds and think that LSU is just this dominant program now they're just not and and there's not a sec team out there including vanderbild that you should be taken lightly um because if you do you're going to get beat and and it's a shame that LSU has come to that because the bigger picture here is like what happens um does a season go AR if if you don't start picking it up right um because like I said South Carolina is not a slouch you go in there and lose that football game and you're sitting here at one and two um the the pressure on Brian Kelly is going to get really big because I don't necessarily think they're going to fire him they're not going to fire him after this year probably not after next year like I think his job is safe but I think the pressure from the voices and and the fans and everything going around the program is just going to be like when is LSU going to take the next step like all LSU fans want is to be considered one of the top football programs in the country and not base it off a brand off of results on the football field like I'm tired of hearing about LSU the brand um and then the results on the field don't match uh that hype you know um because we're a a result driven person like this is this is all uh in the big picture this is all something that comes down to wins and losses on the football field like you can build your brand you can have the best social media you can have the best players like Jane Daniels and all that stuff but if you're not winning games on the football field it really doesn't matter what kind of personalities come through um and what that LSU brand is I was I prefer the LSU brand that was known for taking it to teams and being more physical and I just don't see that anymore and I don't know if that's a Brian Kelly thing I don't know if that's just a new generation of things and I'm just not seeing it but I just feel like LSU just doesn't have that Swagger that they had um and I I really think that that mediocrity is here um and they could easily fall back into the pit of being a team that's seven and five every year eight and four every year because if they don't continue to build depth and start playing with more physical ability like like they're never going to be able to make that jump they're never going to make that jump to be in Alabama or being a Georgia or being a team like Tennessee who's on the rise or Old Miss who's team On The Rise um there's just a physicality that you have to have in this league um and you've shown in these non-conference games that in other conferences they're taking it to you in these types of situations like you even went in the preseason media and said that you were going to be more physical and you were GNA so-called fist fight and do all these things and then you kind of got you know the opposite happened like you were the less physical team in a team that most people viewed as not being a physical team at all last year um they kind of out physical you they were the one pancaking people putting people on their backs um playing with aggression hitting people hard like you don't see that at LSU's defense like you don't see the huge hits you don't see the play making and celebrating and getting up in your face type plays anymore like like you don't have that Swagger that LSU used to have um and it's really sad to watch because I don't know if it's just the new generation of people or if LSU is just what it is now you know I hate to think that but I mean it's like the proof is in the pudding and every year it's the same thing um you played Mississippi State and you just tried to out aete them and they you couldn't do it you played UCLA they were tremendously more physical than you you played Florida State and that the first time and and it felt like they dominated the line of scrimmage the second time they were just better than you in pretty much almost every phase of the game um and then you play the USC game where it comes down to a couple plays here and there and you don't make the plays and they do because they make the spectacular catches they hit the hard they have the hard hits um they make the tackles in the back field uh they blow up plays on Third and one like they did all of that you know it wasn't that you played bad but you didn't play as good as them and that's what it comes down to when you play teams that that are pretty good you know and I don't know if LSU is at that level and and unfortunately I hate to challenge that kind of mentality but it just feels like that's becoming more of a trend and a very dangerous trend um for LSU fans so hopefully they fix that and hopefully man I'm dead wrong about you know everything and they go into South Carolina and they're the more physical team and they go in there and dominate like they should um because they are a better team than South Carolina but obviously anything can happen in this league LSU plays a bad game South carine plays a good game it's all possible so I will see you guys next time man thank you guys for watching if you enjoyed the video please subscribe to the channel like the video drop your comment let me know what you think about LSU football and kind of the state of the whole program right now um it kind of feels like mixed emotions here there's a lot of people with optimism a lot of people on the negative side um kind of there somewhere Stuck in the Middle uh trying to figure this thing out just like you guys so hopefully guys you have a blessed week we'll be breaking down the South Carolina game this week make sure you guys check that out later on in the week I will see you guys next time
