hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome to a uh long Walker live wday it's usually woke Wednesday and now it's on TV and I can hear it all awesome on a second why is it sorry we trying to figure this out where's the Tristan remote trist I need the remote yeah we need the remote because the TV is on just deal with this for second oh I know it sounds creepy and I I don't know why it's doing that because look at everything's disconnected I think it's through your laptop honey because it's the actuales have anything to do with it it has to be cast from [Music] YouTube hold on and I don't think I can pause it the [Music] way all right never had this issue before I don't know what that [Music] is I just love how it's right by me apparently really all right there we go now now you don't have to hear it I don't know what that noise is it's like I've heard it come up on a few things when we been trying to stream and it's really creepy well I hope it's not doing that all the time no because I listen to it here okay anyway sorry about that ladies and gentlemen okay we're doing a special this wi save since it is 911 with the events that happened in New York 23 years ago you said yep 23 years which was crazy because I mean I remember being in uh what's he a freshman in in high school I was in Bakersfield at Bakersfield high school for my freshman year and that morning I don't usually turn on the TV and I clearly remember that I went and turn the TV on that morning to see what was I think the first Tower was already on fire at the time I turned it on and I was trying to figure out what was going on took time for them to report it I didn't know what was going on and so I was trying to figure it all out and then I I saw the second one go and hit the second tower and everybody started really freaking out and so I ran into the living room to my mother and I was like hey there like the towers that were hit and I wasn't sure where they were what what was going on they should have like so I told her she turned on the TV and started finding out more and that whole day for high school we had TVs on for every single class like they were just showing what had happened and the updates huh still had school yeah they didn't send you home no oh how weird no we had school it was because it was City but they just had the TVs on all day that's crazy so they should have some of the original um news footage which was pretty interesting I remember seeing that that was pretty neat yeah it was and I mean that was a day you know you you got all those conspiracy theous that tried to say there was no points to begin with at all but I mean what was seen was seen I I don't see how that could have been faked no um there there definitely the Reon some of them do kind of like hold water yeah that one not so much you know I've heard some of the ones you know they were play they were you know that the our own military threw them in that's so which it is because I mean the deficit of money that we were missing at that time in that same area that was hitting pentagon is where the money was missing from yeah so I mean world yeah but interesting facts about 9 911 um September 11th is reported to be the true birthday of Jesus Christ yes it's also a very important passage in Revelations and I think it has to talk I think it talks about let me see I think it talks about the fall of Babylon so I think that was probably a main driving force by why they chose the state yes as an attack so let's see Revelations and I mean this year H honestly with the the lack of leadership that we have in this country right now it was a big threat I would have assumed that something else could have been done yeah um okay it says in Revelation 9911 we learned about another high ranking Fallen Angel is called abidon in Hebrew literally meaning destruction and aoleon in Greek literally meaning one who destroys both names can be summarized as meaning Destroyer he's the angel of the bottomless pit and King of the Demonic locusts yeah so um yeah and it's also the Egyptian New Year yes so right I'm seeing that most of them came from that region of the world I can't help but think it was really significant the date that was said yeah but I mean it had to have been and I mean they trained at our own schools our own flight schools they were trained by our own people they were here right yeah they were here they were here for a good months I mean that's just the way it was they were here months training I know I found one um that I wanted to show with uh Rob Regal a veteran thing and I can start with that I guess all right so select the picture and picture which is going to be this one this one here no this one uhhuh and then say present present and do the share screen you see it yeah share screen then this going to be that one and make sure it's sharing audio Yeah is it yep okay say share yep then it'll go here now are we ready click on it make sure yeah that looks looks good all righty then and just look it up on that thing to make sure it's uh what' you do oh one go back yeah go back what happened there it is it's right there okay try this again what a perfect day you know got to my office and my assistant at one point came men and said hey I just heard a plane hit the World Trade Center and I'm a pilot you know I have my pilot's license and I I thought well that's interesting and then I heard big screaming from her office and I said what happened what happened what happened and she said another plane just flew into the to the other World Trade Center and I remember thinking what that doesn't add up at all and immediately I was like I think we're under attack which sounded crazy to say I got a call from my commanding officer and said hey listen our unit has been activated so I thought wow that was fast but you know it made sense because we were the only reserve unit in Manhattan and so I said what was that what does that mean he says well put on your boots and Utes did what he said I put it on next morning reported to ground zero and we're going to start moving Rubble by hand because of the time it was search and rescue because we still thought there could be hundreds maybe thousands of people trapped in this Rubble there were six stories of rubble you are about to Embark upon the Great break crusade to meet this mounting aggression and make no mistake about it good will prevail so I had just left active duty uh not more than nine or 10 months prior to 911 happening uh I had joined a Marine reserve unit in Manhattan mtu7 Marine training Unit 17 uh you know I had a day job uh uh and and at night I was pursuing comedy and I was staying in the reserves uh because I I love the Marine Corps and I I wanted to stay connected and I wanted to still be a part of it so umh but I also wanted to be a comedian and actor and I I needed to stay in New York to make that happen so when I they got me new orders on active duty they wanted me to go to Fort me and teach journalism or something and I was like so I I I said you know what I'm going to go ahead and get out of active duty and join the reserves and stay in Manhattan and keep pursuing comedy and acting and then within nine months of that happening 911 happened and um uh we were attacked and everybody remembers that day if you were an adult and an American you'll never forget that day just like the generation before us will never forget Pearl Harbor you know the shock and the surprise and and we had so much you know obviously times have change so we have such graphic video and and such uh recording of it that um uh it affected everybody deeply and and I was obviously in Manhattan on 911 it was gorgeous and I remember walking to work and thinking what a perfect day you know wonderful and got to my office and my assistant uh at one point came in and said hey I just heard a plane hit the World Trade Center and I'm a pilot you know I have my pilot's license and I I thought that's interesting you know and I kind of was behind work so I went back to work then I started thinking about like well how did that happen because you know this is perfect day you know so I I jumped up and I said tell me what happened and she was like I don't know it's it's all happening right now and um so we turned on the television and we found the coverage and and you could see smoke coming out of the World Trade Center and I remember thinking well that looks too big to be like a little Cessna or a little private plane to make that much you know smoke and and we were debating it and and talking about what it could be and and you know and that just doesn't seem possible on a day like today uh for a commercial pilot so you know all this is happening um and and nobody knows anything yet like remember that the phone uh the phone lines weren't bursting out nothing had really unfolded we were still waiting for the other shooter drop I guess and I called my my wife at the time and I she was working closer to downtown um I worked on 42nd and Park Avenue and she worked uh down probably around 30th and uh 7th Avenue so she was down in the Garment District a little closer and she had big windows on her facing south and she said she was watching it live and I said are you seeing this and we were talking and then I heard big screaming from her office and I said what happened what happened what happened and she said another plane just flew into the to the other World Trade Center and I remember thinking what that doesn't add up at all and immediately I was like I think we're under attack which sounded crazy to say but I you know you can't it can't dispute it something's going on so I said I think we're under attack I ran back out to my office they were all watching in shock because it it happened live uh so I I had my ex on the phone and I said stay there I'm coming to get you so I left my office and ran down to where she was and I remember when I got out on the streets it was a very surreal moment because uh I think the trains had stopped at that point and I just remember everybody was on the surface so all you had the sidewalks were packed but the traffic wasn't moving I mean the the hustle and bustle of New York City you know it's it's legendary it's phenomenal um but for whatever reason you had all these people on the surface nobody was underground everybody was on the surface the traffic had stopped but there were no horns there was no talking um and it was just this very eerie quiet and I remember I was going down Fifth Avenue I had cut over from Park to Fifth and I was headed down fifth to get over seventh you know 30th or whatever and I remember I don't know if it was like this everywhere but here there was no planes I I think they grounded all flights yeah they did everywhere because they didn't know how many of them and going different places right because some of the ones that hit New York were going like s to Sacramento right and stuff like that so uh yeah the main thing that I remembered was just like how quiet it was yeah and it's like kind of makes you think it's like how much air traffic is in the air didn't you give time going over our heads I I didn't really notice because I was in the city true so it's harder to to gauge your air the air traffic from like the only way that I can describe it is like when we lose electricity here yeah and everything seems super quiet and really eerie just kind of kind of like muggy and just weigh down yes just kind of like how everything was I remember we went to the store and the store was operating but everybody was just kind of like in a dazed state yeah and it was just so quiet you know that's like the main thing that I remember was just like quiet it was just really strange I I can't imagine that I mean I know what you what you mean by that I mean I heard it here when we lost yeah yeah we're going down parking and you can you could see smoke all the way downtown you could see it and there was a State of Shock it was this you know this is happening but no one knows what it is yet nobody knows what it means nobody knows what's next nobody it's very confusing and shocking time obviously yes um that's what happens in a surprise attack so yeah it really was it was a really shocking time I don't think anybody really foresaw it coming that's the problem we live in such a good good free Society yeah people have and they don't think that it's possible right and they have like a lot of security behind that yes and said you should always kind of live with that preparedness that something bigger could happen to us you should you really should yes it was it was a really big shock to a lot of people it was just like that happens other places that doesn't happen here yeah you know like they were just waiting for the other shoe to drop everywhere I think yeah we didn't know what was next we had it was the two end of the towers there was one that was later on into a field in Pennsylvania and then and then the one into Pentagon there was one that tried to go into the White House that could have possibly been the one that was in that's the one yeah because they would that was going that was going to go to the white house but the people on board actually heard about it and they took plane back over yeah it was pretty crazy it was it was really crazy was really shocking um I remember getting down to my my again my wife at the time I remember getting down to her office getting her uh and then we walked back to our apartment which was up like 44th in Lexington so we got back up there and then we just did what everybody else did hunkered down in front of our television and tried to figure out what was happening and we watched like everybody else in horror as the towers fell and and people were running for their lives and this was happening just you know less than a mile or a mile away from us um in a in a place that we were very familiar with my my wife at the time you know I uh the night I proposed to her I took her to uh windows on the world which is the restaurant on Top of the World Trade Center and and uh we had gone there a couple times uh for one or two of our anniversaries and so we were very familiar with the whole downtown area and and we knew people up there um uh in the World Trade Center so you know we were very concerned for those who serve for those whose sacrifice will never end the Gary SES Foundation shows its gratitude through through entertainment Outreach and lifechanging and for to learn more visit Gary sesf foundation.org that night uh of September 11 pretty much that afternoon uh evening I got a call from my commanding officer um Lieutenant Colonel Steve brozac uh called and said Hey listen our unit has been activated so I thought wow that was fast but you know it made sense because we were the only Marine unit we were on the own reserve unit in Manhattan and all the bridges and tunnels were closed and you know they were they didn't know what they were dealing with everybody was still trying to figure a lot of things out there a lot of questions a ton more questions than there were answers at that time and so I said what was that what does that mean he says well put on your boots and Utes utilities and Boots um uh and and that means for a lot Cami your Camy uniform uh camouflage and so I I did what he said I put it on next morning reported to Ground Zero uh One Police Plaza which is very close to ground zero and we formed up uh and they said okay well nobody knew what was going on but it was like it's search and rescue so let's go uh find a place and we're going to start moving Rubble by hand I I can only imagine the search and rescue parts with all of this I mean going in to something like that this is the next day now so you have a slighter chance that you're not going to find people alive right because it it starts going down as you go on more right but you still want to find as many bodies as you possibly can to allow them the you know the peace right and I know there was him and there was at least Steve Bui worked as a firefighter who worked as a a volunteer firefighter yeah CU he he went back to his old he used to be a firefighter yeah and so he went back to his old uh company and drove a truck I believe yes um and I don't think they be to recognize him for like three or four days just like out there on on the lines getting just dust and S and everything was doing what needs to be done um there was the Kadabra dogs and everything that were like pretty much dying of depression because they weren't finding any survivors they like trained to find survivors well could never dogs find bodies but you know the Survivor those were trained to find survivors yeah and they weren't finding and the dogs were pretty much just like dying of depression depression because it because those dogs need that energy yeah that's the whole point so disheartening you know thought they thought they were doing something wrong because nobody was coming back alive so they started planting people kind of in the reubel and everything so the dogs can kind of like have a morale boost yeah I can see that okay good they found one is there's quite a few animals that I read about today that service service dogs you know situation was pretty crazy most of them should be passed away by now either way the last one just passed from like cancer or something a couple years ago that's not shocking he's like 16 years old though yeah so well I mean it's not shocking that he had cancer because I mean all that Rebel all that disce and stuff from those buildings I mean I can't imagine I mean most of those people even you know coming out of alive that's I always wondered that too like what happened to like the surrounding people like the people that lived and worked around those areas with I mean those were old buildings I don't know and it's like I don't really hear too much about that like how are they getting on them did they die of cancer well because of asbest and all those old chemicals or I it's it's a good point I don't know have of yeah it was I don't know if they have fever but I'm sure there's some equivalent to something like valy fever yeah you know because of the time it was search and rescue because we still thought there could be hundreds maybe thousands of people trapped in this Rubble there was six stories of rubble so you know these these The Towers collapse and when they collapse they gutted other buildings they smashed out foundations of other building they smashed out windows of all the surrounding buildings so those had collapsed into six stories of rubble and Twisted Metal and Iron and pulverized concrete which that pulverized concrete was kind of a moon dust and you know you never forget you know you step on it it was these clouds and and it was everywhere I mean it was a huge radius and papers papers like conf just remember that paper everywhere for blond every because you know when it came down it just compressed it all out and pushed it out so you got six stories of rubble you got this powder uh which a couple days later it rained and then that turned into a paste and um you had burnout cars and all these fire trucks that were burned out but there were skeletons of the trucks and skeletons of cars and it was very surreal when you walked downtown it was um uh it was it was surreal that's the only way I can it because it looked like a movie it felt like it smell you know that smell of burning whatever it was metal concrete pulverized concrete that wet pasty concrete you know you can it's a very distinct smell and um so our unit uh we went down to uh one of the corners um of the towers I don't know which Tower was Tower one maybe it the one furthest south um and uh there was a a Burger King across the street kind of and the windows had been blown out and you know all those businesses were just you know devastated but the the Burger King I just remember that's where we staged our gear that's where we put our backpacks and our and cantens and whatever we stage our gear there and then we literally just formed a Bucket Brigade all the way up this hill like ants going up a hill of this rubble and then we were handing buckets up and buckets down and just moving the Rubble off the pile and down out to the outskirts of the you know the blocks away um because you couldn't bring any heavy equipment into the area because we were afraid of cave-ins and again we thought it was you know search and rescue so we're trying to we're thinking there's bodies under here so so you just like Pick Up Sticks off you're you're picking up chunks of rocks and putting in buckets and you're sending them up and down up and down and from the 12th until the 18th I think we worked um you know 12 hours on 12 hours off 12 hours on 12 hours off 12 hours on 12 hours off and you know they gave us a little eventually like day two or three they gave us a little surgical mask because that moond dust was all over the place right and um so we had the little surgical mask on it wasn't much it was literally just a little paper I think I had more protection in Co um uh but we had those eventually nobody liked them because they just it was hard hard it was so hard to work you know trying to breathe through that thing and then our unit stayed there until the 18th and then after the 18th the word came down that you know it was no longer search and rescue that it was more search and recovery and so they started bringing in heavier equipment and started moving things with bucket loaders and and they started making better progress um and then we were pulled off the rubble piles at that point and they left it to the firefighters and and more to the First Responders and uh our orders were from the September 12th to the September 30th so um and then on from the 18th or whatever I went over to One Police Plaza and then just tried to help coordinate civilian military efforts whatever that means you know equipment caber dogs you know whatever was coming in from military I would liais on with the NYPD and try to work with them I was a captain at the time I just remember like everybody wanting to do something you know feeling the as every day that ticked off you got more and more upset more and more Angry you couldn't believe this happened you know that first couple days I remember f-16s flying around Manhattan very low and you know it was that shocking moment of oh my gosh I never thought I'd ever see a day when I'd have to have f-16s flying cover in in New York City you know it just seemed impossible POS and if you remember back everybody was hurting everybody was angry it was a sucker punch and everybody was couldn't get their head wrapped around that they couldn't understand the evil they were searching for answers they they didn't know what the answers were they you know they just a lot of people when they're in shock they can't process it's natural that's fine and people wanted to help I remember so many times in New York the people of New York were so great they wanted to help in any way they could they were bringing clothes and food and water and you know down to the as close as they could get to ground zero and just staging it right there so that the First Responders and anybody down there could actually just walk out to where the the boundaries were and grab water and grab you know at night if they needed a jacket or whatever you know they could grab those things and and they and people were donating blood and you know they just they needed to do something um and I was 31-year-old Captain in the Marine Corps I had a pretty high security clearance I knew they were going to need people I knew that I knew what this meant this is not something that you just on that scale you just don't bat your eyes at and walk away from this is going to be we're getting involved now I called my co and I just said listen I know I've got a green badge which is a TS top secret with a skiff clearance so I'm like they're going to probably need me or they're going to want me especially for my job at the time which was public affairs so um he uh I said put me back in if you can you know you know and he called Central Command down at Tampa and said hey I got a young Captain up here he's got a green badge if you know and he wants to get back in and uh November 10th Marine Corps birthday I got my orders to um to go back to active duty down in Central Command I jumped I rented a car in New York and I drove because I didn't have a car at the time and I drove down to camp leun and I had to iness back into active duty um and then from there I my parents met me in Camp leun they were in Kansas they drove out from Kansas met me in Lun I turned the rental car back in they gave me their car and then I drove their car down to Tampa and they flew back home and uh that way I had a car uh got to Tampa on the 17th of November checked in to to the uh the public affairs office there in in uh centcom um got briefed up on what was going on what we were doing you know just kind of got brought up to speed again I was just a young Captain so uh and then the colonel came to me and said all right uh don't unpack you're going to you know you're going to Afghanistan so I said okay and I was on a plane I think the 30th of November and and headed over to usbekistan uh to K2 landed there spent a couple days there uh tried to get into Afghanistan a couple times uh tried to go over the the mountains in a shinook 47 and that was a harrowing experience we couldn't make it over the mountains we were flying at night snow's coming in through the Gunner Port you know so you got snow and the in the fuselage and and it's the roughest ride I ever had in my whole life so we had to turn back halfway and it was I mean that was the longest night um so we didn't make it in that night but I did KISS the ground when I got back to usbekistan and then u a couple days later we I got into maeri Sharif and uh joined up with a unit there an army unit um and uh started working with them in a public affairs and civil Affairs capacity and um uh stayed with them till early February and then they had stabilized their mission a lot we had started doing more operations in the South um and so sencom called me back I went back and I got back just in time for operation Anaconda which I worked at sycom from The Joint Operation Center out of the jock and um did that and then uh ended up going back to Afghanistan in the summer of 2002 um for just a couple months months two two maybe three months tops and then um uh came back and uh my year was up and then I went back to New York and um stood by because they were gearing up for Iraq and I didn't know if I was going to be involved in that or not and then a year after that I got on Saturday live and then uh you know uh things started happening on the entertainment front but that's kind of the this the the story as I you know as I remember it from 911 sure there's one story um when you were working on the rubble pile where you were almost seriously injured um with your leg well the the so when the because the buildings were all unstable around us like even a day or two after the 911 you had a whole another building collapse like you know World Trade sour six or something you know it was there was another whole building that collapsed and there was another building that the Brooks brother store was in I remember the Brooks brother was down low but it was an office building up top but it looked like Godzilla had just clawed out the front of those building because there was just this gash missing uh so there's buildings were unstable so with the winds you know you everybody just didn't know what we were dealing with another building could fall it could collapse and we were working against the clock because again we thought there were survivors so we had to be down there couldn't just leave it and so they had an air raid siren one of those old world war and when that sounded our job was to get out of there get out because they were afraid of something a cave in a collapse of something so that was the only instruction we had was just get out if you hear that exit get away from get away from ground Zer so um yeah I remember I was down closer I wasn't way up high I was down closer to the base of the pile and they fired up the alarm so we all start you know anytime you start moving quickly it can turn into a a route very quickly it can turn into everybody's just running because they don't know you know it's a panic thing you know you know why why why are we running why are we running and then everybody just takes off running and I came running around the corner and they had a generator uh with one of those big lights on top of it for night workk and you know it was set up around this uh in this Alleyway and so now actually everybody's like ants trying to find their way out and so I came around the corner and ran into this um generator where the the trailer hitch extended out and it was right about shin level I remember I hit it and no problem you know I thought okay I'll just get but the the body wave behind me people just kept stacking up on me and I couldn't necessarily get my legs out and I could feel the pressure and I thought oh God I'm going over but my legs aren't so I thought I'm going to break my legs here so I remember I had to use my old low poost skills give the old Charles barklay and just drive my butt back into everybody and I did I I got enough that I could get a little room for myself and get up on top of it and then I just pointed it out to everybody so as people didn't stack up you know keep stacking up or tripping over it um and I don't think anything happened you know they sounded the safe to go back so we all went back but just you know those moments uh you just didn't know what was going to happen next and so there was a tremendous amount of anxiety a trem and sadness anxiety sadness hurt uh tremendous emotions um you know I was 31 at the time and you know I heard the story about all those traitors at caner Fitzgerald and know these guys are my age you know and and the guys that led the the revolt on flight 93 you know that guy was my age you I remember the the name of the lead guy remember Todd Beamer Beamer he was my age he was my exact age and I remember thinking ah that could have been me could have been me you know and so everybody was hurting everybody was sad it's a tough time and put a couple things in your playlist about the animals and then looking for something okay cuz look there's this one too from the same thing that's NYPD firefighters it's cap okay not a problem go back to this I'm trying to find there was not that long ago remember I watched it with you remember there was like all these different news feeds yes and I can't find those otherwise it's all from things that I think I said we would get copyright on are any of these it or no go to your playlist and I put it in a special playlist I just keep I'm adding stuff as we go a hero's salute to one of America's bravest golden retrievers we're here to pay our final tribute and honor Britney who has served her country and her community Britney the last no 9911 search and rescue dog was laid to rest at the old age of 16 firefighters lined up along a Houston area sidewalk to honor the canine as she took her final steps Britney served our nation in so many ways from trying to find survivors at the World Trade Center buildings to searching for victims during Hurricane Katrina [Music] last year Britney was treated by bark post to a day of fun in honor of her birthday from her own hotel [Music] room to room service yes you can try it it's really good huh and a dog's Tiffany key to the city oh it's so beautiful Denise corus a member of Texas Task Force One is Britney's owner and Handler she represents the working dogs and the disaster dogs in particular and you know they all are deserving for a day like today after Britney retired at the age of 10 she became a member of a local Texas fire department she also started visiting schools where she sat with children as they read out loud in the classroom when we deployed to some of the disasters what I didn't anticipate is the role that they take on as a therapy dog for many this kabai closes a big chapter of history as First Responders reflect on her heroic career a dog deserving of so many honors Gets A fitting farewell for insideedition.com I'm Lee sheps there she is back good we didn't know he was going to do that [Music] my name is Robert Chanel I'm 59 years old I'm currently the Kine training instructor here at JFK airport for the TSA and I was a former NYPD can9 Handler during 911 I love having a dog as as my partner but wasn't a pet you you're attached to this animal for 24 hours it's not like you know at the end of your shift you know you put the dog somewhere the dog comes home with you lives with you in your house Atlas was my new partner he was brand new he was like fresh out of training he was only less than he was under two years old when 911 [Music] happened he was B when both Towers came down with me you know we we ran for our lives after one of them uh we Dove under a truck for another one to to survive it he definitely was pulling me he was making me run faster because when you have a German Shepherd 90 pound German CH he pulling you he's kind of you know he's like I'm going this way I'm just following him he went right to to have this as his first major event he's like a rookie cop you know he was trial by fire you know literally he what you talk to trained to do that search and rescue train to look for live victims I had the dogs so I stayed outside so there was a plan to search for people and then search seven World Trade Center we got a six sense like something's wrong here and we left and sure enough I think it was 45 minutes from La that whole building came down number seven fell you know collapsed so luckily we left we would have been inside it first couple weeks were tough on all the dogs you know they were put under a lot of stress they were working long hours they weren't getting any rest they were put in some really uh difficult situations it was every day 247 we had that hope of finding victims alive but I think uh few days into it we kind of realized that that wasn't going to be the case you know just going to try to recover people unfortunately the dog doesn't have that luxury of having a mask because his nose is his greatest asset so dogs breathing and and smelling that pile and all the smoke and toxic things that are coming out of that pile which we didn't know at the time we would uh hydrate them they put IVs in them they'd flush their eyes flush their ears clean them up they vets there 247 which is a godsent for us I mean there are times right he barely keeping his eyes open they be standing up falling asleep you know just like us we're trying to the dog's not drinking coffee he's just working on adrenaline you know [Music] s was that powder he was a champion he went up there and searched that that Rubble pile smokees coming out and fire is coming out and he's climbing all over this debris you know he survived it we stayed down there for the full nine months till May 30th they said this is no longer we're going to shut down Ground Zero shut down the site and this you know this recovery is over I think it definitely shortened his lifespan the vet said uh you know he's full of cancer and he had like a tumis in unfortunately one of them burst and bled eternally I remember because was Father's Day so a terrible day down there you we were attached to him every day I spent this more time with him than any of my family like us he was going through a traumatic experience [Music] I just consider myself lucky just real lucky I pray every day that you I'm not a victim to 911 I hope I hope it doesn't happen but I'm almost resigned to the fact that it could happen you know at some point I miss all my all my police dogs I actually have all their ashes on home on you know on the on a shelf good boy my first dog 1985 was Tim he was imported from Germany and I got a second dog Zeus I was at the 93 World Trade Center Zeus I was deployed to Oklahoma City in 1995 we were looked at like the premere sear meu team and everybody from in Oklahoma was like oh New York's here they they they know how to handle this I miss them all cuz they were all great Partners they all they all protected me they had my back and that dog will give its life for you I mean I could recreate all of them I'd bring them all back you know they all did their jobs [Music] across the airwaves today touching tributes to those lost on 911 it's just crazy to see all the animals though they said over 300 dogs yeah took part in 911 what I um I don't know what what else I have there I can't find the news coverage that I wanted I don't know what happened to it so I've just thrown a couple more things in not a problem because I'm sure we'll be reach our hour here in just a little bit but we'll see what this one's about and then see what else you got love New York 20 years later the memory of that fateful morning still so vivot we got on our knees and we prayed that's exactly I remember it like it was yesterday the iconic IM of Marcy borders the dust lady came to symbolize the tragedy of that day she ran for her life when the World Trade Center collapsed my mom woke up and saw her face all over the news all over uh newspapers Marcy's daughter Noel was eight years old on 91 her mom died in 2014 after a lifetime of struggling to come to terms with what happened that day it made her very afraid at one point she didn't want to go outside she never returned back to the city for the first time a new Museum exhibit is paying tribute to the unsung heroes of 9911 the search and rescue dogs who comb through the rubble the dogs unbelievable they did not stop retired FDNY Captain Steve smen and his dog Hansen spent 150 days on the pile searching for survivors every time we showed up there you know soon as you looked at Kyo he was going he was searching and the children known as the babies of 9/11 born after their fathers were killed when the towers came down are reuniting in an ABC special Diane Sawyer introduced those little ones to America in 2001 posing for this memorable photograph we spoke to Claudia zurowski that's Claudia in the photo when she was just four months old it's so confusing and so difficult for me to mourn the loss of somebody that I never met um but it just it gets harder every single year tomorrow the loved ones of those who were killed will gather here at the 911 Memorial to read their names out loud names like James M gartenberg Patricia an puma and so many more officials assured Americans that they are ready for anything massive resources will be deployed to protect all New Yorkers and our visitors and we are watching constantly and as we honor the memory of those who died we can also look back at a time when America came together a nation United as one I can hear you the rest of the world here here's you and the people and the people who knocked these buildings we'll hear all of us soon so different from the divisions that we face today boy do I wish that we could be reminded um of the courage and the resilience and the tenacity and the unity that we all experienced 20 years ago [Applause] [Music] there a whole generation that graduated it never experienced it in 23 years [Music] ho [ __ ] the hell was that sound like a plane crash Hey Beth what what is that something somebody hit the World Trade Center or the the Trade Center World Trade yeah this just in you were looking at very disturbing I just heard a loud boom you did was it a plane [Music] that's what I was thinking it was a terrorist attack immediately there's speculation or cause for concern this is the World Trade Center that was the center of a terrorist bombing some years ago so the questions have to be asked was this purely an accident or could this have been an intentional act but either way extensive damage this other [ __ ] oh my God oh my God oh my God this is literally some of the best footage that I've seen I know it's amateur footage it's not even from the news yeah I mean this is really good I don't even remember seeing I know I I just found that it was like kind of like buried in some of the stuff so I was like that's pretty cool yeah because I only ever saw it really from like like the news I mean this is straight over people's heads and like like why was that I mean they were like talking to the firefighter yeah they're just talking to the firefighter and he's just kind of like standing there just like doing a normal thing and then just yeah that was it and it's just weird because they do not look like commercial planes no have like numbers do they not that I can see and they don't look like the uh you know the the big like they're supposed to be 747s from what what was said right and it just do look like it it's like czy looks our six seven floors were taken out and there's more explosions right now hold on people are running hold on just a moment we've got an explosion inside the is exploding right now you got people running up the street I want to tell you what's going on right oh my God another plane has just hit it h another building flew right into the middle of it explosion right God it's right in the middle of the building pick your reader up from under your seat stay on page 153 at the count of three everyone be on3 mom another plane just crashed into other World Trade Center another plane a jet a jumbo jet I'm so scared I'm leaving no don't bye I love you Megan don't wait for me we do have some videotape oh of the second plane and you can see it there I didn't see it this czy we're under attack going building from our Vantage Point yeah clearly difficult to tell we're under attack plane that is but it's a horrific scene and all right we just been told also Michael sorry the New York Stock Exchange is being evacuated as is I'm sure much of Wall Street if not all of it as much as possible but the New York Stock Exchange has suspended trading for the most uh today we've had a national tragedy two airplanes have crashed into the World Trade Center in an apparent terrorist attack on our country [Music] there's David I'm sorry to interrupt you but we're looking at live pictures of the Pentagon where there is billowing smoke MC Jim mlfy just reported that he heard an explosion and right now we're looking at an aerial view of the Pentagon there reports the Pentagon has been evacuated and the White House is being very all of the airports across the country have been shut down all flights have been canceled for another 7 hours which is about 5:00 Eastern time and then we'll reignite there we'll take a look what's going on after that the probability of extension as they call that is high two and two one this is as close as we can get to the base of the World Trade Center you can see the fireman is assembled here the police officers FBI agents and you can see the two towers a huge explosion now raining debris on all of us we better get out of the bank yeah [Music] I hope I live I hope I live she's coming down on me here it comes I'm getting behind the car Anthony you okay yeah oh my God oh my God [Music] [Music] I I'll tell you that I can't see that second tower but there was a Cascade of Sparks and fire and now this it looks almost like a mushroom cloud explosion this huge billowing smoke in the second tower this was the second of the two towers hit now this is a this is what it looked like moments ago my God so that was the second col right first the uh remains of a airplane crash over on uh lamberville Road and probably had a terrorist uh bomb on board blew up uh don't know anything more than that that's what I heard on the scanner I just saw the smoke come up and uh the the explosion shook the house clear over here and we are what 15 M from lambertsville in Washington there has there is a large fire at the Pentagon the Pentagon has been evacuated and there's you can see perhaps the second tower the front Tower the top portion of which is collapsing good [Music] Lord there are no words we have a report that a 747 uh is down in Pennsylvania and that remains unconfirmed at this point and so we will check on that good evening today our fellow citizens our way of life our very Freedom came under attack in a series of deliberate and deadly terrorist acts thousands of lives were suddenly ended by evil despicable acts of Terror these acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and retreat but they have failed our country is strong a great people has been moved to defend a great nation the search is underway for those who are Behind These evil acts I've directed the full resources of our intelligence and law enforcement communities to find those responsible and to bring them to justice we will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who Harbor them [Music] I can hear you I can hear you the rest of the world hears you and the [Applause] people and the people who knock these buildings down will hear all of us soon that was no it's exactly 9 creepy yeah I have a couple I don't know how long those are 35 seconds this one I had [Music] one talking oh [ __ ] full and de here we were there on the day that we'll live in infamy inside Editions Matt Mahar was one of the first reporters on the scene okay a big explosion has just occurred everyone is running from the entire Financial gr with now the smoke is filling the entire area let's go come on go brat go stop shooting brat go cameraman Brad weight captured moments never to be forgotten mayor any idea how this happened not right now not right now correspondent April Woodard was already there when she encountered mayor Rudy Giuliani who was getting his first look at the disaster as you can see there's debris all over it looks like it's snowing out here in downtown Manhattan cameraman Steve Shapiro found himself in the midst of the chaos as day turned to night Shapiro recorded scenes of utter Devastation it was almost apocalyptic everybody go down to the sub basement he followed these desperate people as they sought safety in a bomb shelter come on Miss get in here a filmmaker who was shooting plumes of smoke was pulled into a juice bar just as daylight turned to dark oh my God you're right oh my God you saved my life others hid in a deli oh my God Unforgettable moments from one of America's most tragic days stuck out in it be it looks like it yeah I think that's it it's over it's over an hour all right ladies and gentlemen that you saw it there I mean that a lot of that we hadn't even seen until now I mean that's how crazy it is you know those plan the plane going different views right imature footage like that that's crazy yeah and the dust clouds that you saw just gets me I can't even I it's concrete powder yeah so I wonder about the people that were in that like how they survive years after later you know yeah but uh yeah I mean there's a lot of conspiracy theorists behind it saying that it was all about you know forc patriotism and it was meant so that we could get over there and get it the oil and everything in the next country over and it's like I don't know about any of that but it gets pretty deep with a lot of it yeah it does there's a new person yeah the light stick Club see another one another one yeah yeah I was I was like I was saying at the beginning of this I was a uh like 15 right 15 I was a freshman in high school and that's all we did all day was watch the news because you know the school had nothing else going on that day just they brought in TVs to all the rooms and every room you went into pretty much was just watching the the TV to see what was going on that was crazy yeah I I remember just a few years ago they did say something that it was the first year that people would be graduating high school um that were not alive for the 9 the 911 it was like yes thought as a historical thing that they weren't alive for just wild to me because it just doesn't seem like it's been that long you know so yes all right ladies and gentlemen that's all for tonight hope you enjoyed it we'll be back on our normal schedule for
