it's the full court press with Eric Franson and Jason Walker welcome back to the uh you know to the to the show that we're doing right now following the local teams breaking down the biggest games with in-depth analysis and team interviews there's going to be much higher expectation sense of awareness of what uh we bring to the table join the show by calling into 43575 21069 or textt 435 33932 one it's the full court press touchdown they did [Music] it good afternoon everyone welcome to the second hour of the full court press Jason Walker Eric Franson talking the latest in Utah State and also this hour High School sports high school football got kicked off it really rang in the football season just everything that we've been kind of waiting for we got to wait until September for Utah State football but all the region 11 teams were in action on Friday uh we were having the streams and I we had a couple technical difficulties but we got everything running smoothly by the end streams you can find them on cash val.com the re the replays also so scoreboard articles which we publish just updating you quickly on all the scores and just a lot of the the quick hit info that you usually want like day after the games happened but here going to recap everything that happened you know game by game how all the teams did 5- one overall record for region 11 teams in week one which I'd consider that a success for region 11 well what a great start there were some questions you know what would uh what would Bear River look like what would Mountain Crest look like you second-year coaches um different level of competition and what would Logan look like with their first year head coach um you Sky View and and uh rid line there some hype with those teams coming to this year both of them were on the road but um you even though Logan lost Logan was in that game that game is that score not really reflective of how that game looked Pine View ported on at the end like it's three minutes to go and they're still like taking big shots down field that was a team that didn't win a game last year and you could tell they were feeling a little Saucy that they had a lead and that they wanted to celebrate that they had a win the first time in a long time so that don't look at that score and think wow Logan just looked bad Logan was competitive and Logan played a pretty good game uh just Pine View had a lot of pent up in and laid it all out on the field and and poured it out on them but um you know Logan Logan's be going to be a competitive team this year yeah that's some of obviously under a first year coach and a team that you know heck they overperformed last year in a lot of ways they kind of overperformed expectations and really proved a lot of people wrong and this isn't the greatest start you know I said you're losing to a team that you know lost every game last year but teams Chang a lot year at a year so pin viw can certain be certainly be improved Logan maybe they're they're still working some new guys in there working in some new Playmakers at wide receiver running back working in some new guys in the offensive defensive line so they've got some work to do but yeah I I think that that final score and the final score was a um oh I had a run down 4319 of course as you mentioned with about 6 and a half minutes to go in that game Logan had it 22 to9 they came back from uh 22 to7 scored a couple of touchdowns got within two points but then that's when Pine View responded they responded right after scored that uh that touchdown to come within couple of points and then they were pouring it on a little bit more got a pick six and whatnot so really took it out of hand in those final six minutes but yeah overall competitive by Logan uh but uh certainly another game and that was heard here on 1069 the fans Sky View going at Salem Hills uh coming away with a 44-20 victory it was 17 to 14 at halftime but then Sky View starting to flex a little bit on S Hills and I mean big thing for Sky View returning something we talked on is that they seem to have all their stars back start quarterback start running back and a running back who is uh the cash fing Media Group region 11 offensive player I think MVP excuse me the MVP overall uh he comes back rushes for 200 yards for the Bobcats and then they have you know Brighton Williams going for almost 160 receiving yards and Carson Thatcher going for 275 passing yards so the Stars shown for Sky View although certainly those weren't the only players who played well in a game that you win by 24 points yeah excuse me you know early on just uh as a lot of games are prone to to to play out in the early well in your first game of the season it's kind of a feeling out period like what who are we really what do we have the other team's kind of trying to figure out the same thing but um once Sky started to get into a group uh they really started to pour it on a huge third quarter for them where they could really separate um but um yeah Sky View going on the road being beating a team in a higher classification great way for them to start off the 2023 campaign yeah certainly very impressive and it will continue to expect a lot from them another team that you talk about you know trying to feel things out maybe starting a bit sluggish not maybe playing up to their potential you could also very well have been described Ridgeline going against Bonville on the road that game 0 at halftime Ridgeline I mean at that point you can certainly praise the defense but offense wasn't going anywhere in that game at least they weren't getting in the end zone or even in field goal range but third quarter they go off for 21 points you know Nate Dolly coming alive at quarterback throwing three touchdown passes two of those to Carson Cox one of those to Graham Livingston uh you know big game for Dolly about 286 passing yards three touchdowns ran for a touchdown and obviously his receivers you know Livingston and Carson Cox having good days themselves uh and ridg line ends up scoring 27 second half points bonov only going for seven so pretty strong second half and especially third quarter for the riverhawks yeah and the the sign of of good teams are you know when they get back together at halftime what wasn't working how can we fix that what adjustments can we make and then you see them really executing in the second half that's what happened to Sky View that's what happened to Ridgeline well- coached teams uh lot of experience there uh coming back uh for both not just in the coaching staff but in the players in the locker room and that was definitely evident in the second half for as both of those teams had big third quarters that created the separation for the game obviously Sky View creating more offense than than Ridgeline did but give Ridgeline credit for what they did defensively only giving up one touchdown and that came in the fourth quarter so that defense really bow up and uh played tough while the offense took their time figuring it out so obviously Ridgeline and Skyy those are your two favorites those are the two that you feel like you're going to be duking it out for region 11 title we both you know had Sky View was kind of having the advantage there is this pretty much everything we expected I know both of them had slow stars but this just everything you expect from these two teams you know Stars showing out big multi-touchdown wins I mean does week one present anything to be worried about unless you're somebody who has to face Sky View ridg line well I mean both teams won on the road against teams in higher classifications but they were kind of mediocre to bottom level teams in the higher classification in 5A so there would be an expectation that they should be very competitive against them um but you know what they they weren't just competitive against them they second half dominated and that's kind of what I would expect Sky View and Ridgeline to do when it's all said and done when it's the final you know score final zeros on the scoreboard that they with the as much returning talent and experience and coaching as they have they should come away with wins like they did on Friday yeah I think it it it really does certainly show their strength just being able to do all that they did on the road and even in game overcoming some of their own weaknesses I mean Sky VI going into halftime 1714 that's not the worst thing in the world but especially Ridgeline overcoming just a bad half for them on offense to score 27 points in a single half that's almost as dangerous as just the final score is like these guys can just turn it on and that's the most dangerous thing for these great teams heck it's what the Kansas City Chiefs do all the time in the NFL you feel like you got him then all a sudden bam they put up three touchdowns you're like what happened yeah where'd that come from the game plan was working so perfectly then it gets ripped to shreds that's kind of what some of these these players can do you know the brev Eggbert Brighton Williams Carson Thatcher for Sky View and for Ridgeline you know Dolly Livingston Cox just they just go off on you all of a sudden there's like nothing you can do about it uh but there were you know two games that um that um well really I guess three other games the other three games that uh I had as big question marks what would we see out of Mountain crust this year last year great senior leadership new coach new culture kind of setting a tone with that carry over into this year and the Mustangs absolutely putting a whooping on Hurrican 35 to zero so continuing to outpace their competition offensively and defensively they just made life really difficult on the Tigers last night uh not last night Friday night um but um really uh kind of setting the tone like this is who we are going to be this year we're going to continue to to be forc to be reckoned with yeah and I noted kind of in our previews like hey you know Mountain Crest played hurricane early in the season last year beat him 27 nothing it was kind of a hint of things to come where they would eventually rebound that year go eight and five after a couple of rough years I thought you know hesitate comparing games across season especially at high school where so much changes but you know hey maybe you look at last year this year maybe make a slight comparison do they do about as well as they did last year in this game well they did better eight more points and went on the road yes so did it at their house yeah so it's it's or did they play m home I sly oh no sorry it was in it was in highum it was in highum yeah I suddenly confused myself so they did it at home excuse me so I mean guess playing at home it gets you hate more points but yeah it was some the Mountain Crest they were a bit of a question mark both of us were like okay they did great last year do they repeat something like that this year where they lost a ton of that really great you know senior Talent on defense and on offense well so far they look just as competent as they did last season last season they were pretty dang good yeah and their Stars showed out will dorver had a huge game uh you know great uh job overall defensively with with coach vist is trying to preach out there and mount Crest is definitely going to be a tough tough team in region 11 this year and so another game uh Green Canyon they were of all the wins you could say it was the least impressive but it was a 14 to zero game so you shut out a team the least impressive part is the fact that they were the lowest scoring team of the week but you get a shut out you're always proud of that even if you only get the 14 points um so maybe a bit of a work in progress but do a great job on defense do a good enough job on offense I'd say mission accomplished for Green Canyon week one yeah and JT T elely doing against his alma mater I mean he went to school at Hunter that's where he went to high school and uh having them come up here and be the opponent that you you play on your inaugural game at Green Canyon I mean it's gutsy move but um look it was he when he was with us last week he was so grateful that he had a great group of of players on defense all ready to go and he was really confident in the defensive side of the ball and and the coaches there so he could focus on offense offense yeah only scored 14 points but um Hunter again these are all all these teams are upper classification teams tough teams to try to uh to to beat um but that uh that defense really made major plays for Green Canyon um and kept them in the game and helped position them into great spots to score points on offense so by the way going back to the mountain Cris game uh 4446 saying don't sleep on Mountain Crest yeah and maybe we were I mean granted we got to see a little bit more out of them like we you have to see a lot out of you know everybody but AB team we'll get to that in a second but yeah with with Green Canyon yeah just you know you got some Playmakers who made plays they were aggressive they on like the 26 yd line fourth and 15 and that's kind of edge of field goal distance for a High School kicker anyway but went for it got a 26 yard touchdown to open things up dwey Egan showing he was the one who scored that touchdown he had a couple of interceptions so great performance there from one of the from one of green Canyon's top twoa players there absolutely uh and then Bear River uh again this is coach trampus weight he the second season in Garland trying to install a new offense a new culture new way of doing things by but still trying to hang on to and and continue on the um the expectation that be river is going to play tough defense defensively and I think we saw the best of those two worlds on Friday night for be River um 31-7 uh beat Cedar Valley so the offense was was clicking uh the defense was Stout uh for the Bears and be River was was pretty consistent like we've seen some of these teams that we've talked about have like a really big quarter and that was the difference for them Bear River was pretty consistent through the game uh making it tough def defensively uh but also continuing to score and add to their own scoreboard as the game continued on it wasn't all in one quarter it came pretty much throughout the entire game yeah I'll tell you I you know before the season we had a chance to talk to trampus waiting as I went back and I was writing the preview and doing the prep and doing the research and all that basically set a nice tall glass of be River Kool-Aid right on my desk I'm like dang do I drink that like dang I'm really tempted yes to like put to just absolutely start banging the Bear River drum be like these guys can be really good and uh this game I think confirm maybe I should have taken a bit of a sip earlier put them maybe a little higher in my preseason predictions because yeah se de valy they were a good team last year they were a 5A team I think they went eight and four eight and five last year you know still in 5A this year and be River just took it to him you know Tai Jones going for 115 or so yards uh Breer going two interceptions and receiving touchdown big performances by these guys and you know offense and defense me you know allow seven points score 31 be consistent the entire three quarters not really having much of a hiccup throughout most of the game you know that's that's quality football and certainly got to be keeping an eye on Bear River and and I gu kind of on that note you know I kind of isolated Sky View Ridgeline it felt like they did what they needed to do is you know teams we view as contenders is there anything from Mountain Crest Bear River maybe even if you want to throw a Green Canyon in there uh that makes you think could they try and sneak into that level where they might be you know boxing with with Sky View and Ridgeline fighting for uh maybe even a share of the region title well I I think it's one week and we can't overreact on one week for want it now what I will say is that it does tell us that it's going to be an exciting region 11 football season I mean uh five of the six teams um there to be four of the six teams scor 27 or more points in their openers um and you know Logan scores 19 um or was it 22 now I got to go back and find the Logan score uh it was 19 it was 19 Green Canyon scores 14 so maybe a little bit score lower scores on their end but um good defensive performance perces outside of that one game um for for uh most of these teams so I think it's going to be really fun and all these teams went on and went out and played teams that in higher classifications and really showed well uh except for Hurrican Mountain Crest and Logan who played region nine teams but those were opportunities to uh to really show what you're doing and how far you're coming along so even though Logan lost through three and a half quarters they were very very much in it and uh and like to see what they were doing and continuing to improve yeah I think there definitely are going to be some great games you focus on the sky of your Ridge lamp you know when Mountain Crest faces be River you know Green Canyon and Mountain Crest and and and be River and Green Canyon and and Logan and green Kane and and all this stuff it's going to create a lot of games and especially there's going to be Playmakers on both sides of the ball you're going to see some good offense but you're all going to see some defensive backs make some crazy interceptions and crazy plays uh you know going both ways so I think it's going to be a really fun region 11 even if by the end there's a possibility we may have an undefeated team uh in region play at least coming out of region 11 but I think a lot of the games are going to be super exciting well and what happened Friday is going to help a lot of these schools in they rpis um you know they're playing higher classification schools schools that should be pretty decent um and that's going to help their RPI and where they end up uh later in the in the season with their with their rankings because region record doesn't matter it's what your overall RPI looks like when it comes to the state playoffs yeah so we'll see how that goes they don't release those until like week like four or five or something like that right yeah a couple weeks into it need a certain amount of data to put into the system to really figure out how teams are and what their level of competition has been so it's about four or five weeks into it usually about when you get into region play yeah about about halfway through the season have start a region play we'll get an idea so uh a couple of notes up for once we were talking about all the different players and guys who have starred we do have the return of our McDonald's player of the week that'll be something that we announce tomorrow we sent out ballots we're getting votes back so we'll announce that tomorrow I believe we'll be moving that to the 5:00 hour I know last year we were doing in the 4:00 hour but right now we got top 25 Aggies so we're just going to keep that there and then we'll do player of the week in the 5:00 hour so that'll be announced tomorrow tomorrow but of course another big thing is the old Gris Mill bread and butter play of the game uh from Sky View that game on Friday when we head into the break we'll start Fielding calls uh if you can call in and describe the play that hurricane John newble that they specified as in Rex Davis as well specified as the bread and butter play of the game call in identify that we got the details in front of us so if you can name that you can win some free bread from the old Gris Mill four loaves of bread four loaves of bread yes before I take it to time out uh 8739 texting in last year Green Canyon defense kept them in most games offense could not do much if the defense can do the same this year the offense can get you a win yeah I think it's a great point you know defensively Green Canyon was tough um but offensively they just couldn't generate enough and get into the end zone so this year be interesting to see how that changes all right we're going take a break we come back we'll talk about the the bread and butter play of the game here on the full court press this is two pros and a cup of jun go the NFL and CBS announced that the Super Bowl this upcoming season old Gris Mill bread and butter play of the game from Sky views win over Salem Hills on Friday it was a 65 yd touchdown reception Carson thater through to Brighton Williams uh was in the early third quarter and uh took sky from being up 1714 to 2414 and certainly was a catalyst uh for their you know big third quarter and obviously going from up three to up 24 by the end of the game Big play and uh big momentum swing for the Bobcats on the road then they didn't let up on that sometimes that's all you need one big play to happen to really get things rolling for you so uh congrats again to Neil and uh reminder we'll be doing this every Monday through the high school football season and uh you can invite anybody to participate and try to to correctly identify it but you can only win it once every 30 days so we got to we want to spread this around spread the love yeah want different play don't want different people winning it getting a chance to spread the love or spread the bread spread the bread hash spread the bread I like that not just with butter that was terrible I should size that from the radio record but but it was a fun weekend for the start of region 11 High School football five of the six teams picking up wins uh even Logan even though Logan lost they were very competitive through three and a half quarters Pine View just started to pour it on and uh kept pouring it on um not real sportsmanship but you know it's a team that hadn't won all year last year so they were anxious to get a lot of people get some stats that they were lacking from a year ago apparently but um still pretty exciting opening weekend for high school football and uh some of them you know wins on the road against 5A schools wins at home against 5A schools or know competitive against other fora schools that they could see again in the playoffs yeah it's a it's a good sign for region 11 and if they can if they keep this up then we're going to be having the RPI results come out we're going to be seeing a lot of region 11 teams toward the top and it'll be more competitive in that RPI CU now there's you know from 13 to about 24 I always forget the exact numb it's like 24 25 or 26 two new regions in the along the wasnatch front yeah so a lot of teams a lot of uh ways be competitive for 4A and seeding going to matter that much more for home Home fueld Advantage and all that RPI stuff yes so yes but moving back to something we were getting on about during the first hour Utah State having their you know fall opening I guess their there's their fall scrimmage their first fall scrimmage they'll have another one this Saturday uh they'll be uh so they'll they'll have another chance to to play in front of the fans a lot of whom are maybe at the fair on Saturday that comes around only the one time I guess scrimmages happen a couple of times but uh in that first scrimmage certainly saw a lot of things I know one thing that I've keyed in on it kind of mentioned a couple times I feel like the defensive line putting pressure on the quarterback and is something that the stats didn't really show and it's kind of hard to tell uh with the scrimmage environment because when they're chasing the quarterback like you mentioned if they breathe on the quarterback they call it dead but in some ways the defensive line have to like pull up or maybe they Veer off to the side of the quarterback and so they're they're trying not to hit him and not you know lay him on his back but the defense still got through a lot and had they actually been playing in a real game environment I think they would have had more than the four sacks they were credited with they might have you know had six or seven or if not six or seven they would have had five or six sacks in like five more QB hits where they're putting the QB on the ground either hitting him and he threw it just after he threw you know that kind of stuff that gets in a quarterback's head and I know Max Alford he was uh you know meeting with media afterward in talking and he talked about how he felt the the defensive line looks pretty good this season I think our D line is really looking good um I think they're pretty big we got athletic dudes on like uh inoa and Paul Hol H's coming back he's been a vet so um in terms of our defensive line I think uh we're going to be pretty good when it comes down to and they just love getting to the quarterback so yeah I thought it was you here's somebody who's playing behind them and based on how they do affects what he can do as the linebacker Max Alford so he needs that that defensive line to gobble space to to create impact so allows him to be more effective as a linebacker and so that's encouraging to hear because I know there's big question marks there with the all the players who defected off of that defensive front you do have two guys who are back and a couple of new guys coming in trying to fill some of those roles so um it it's it's a defense under a new defensive coordinator too and trying to figure out how he wants to run things how he's going to call plays how he's going to organize things and what he's expecting of his team and Max Alford also talked a little bit about that just uh with Coach Joe CN kind of his expectations of his defensive unit coach always talks about um energy enthusiasm physical and aggressive and I think um you know we're coming together this year uh the difference between this year and last year is our coach gives us more free range to be aggressive towards the ball and make moves at the line so I think um you know our defense uh defensive line specifically they got at it today and um I think slowly we're coming together so that was good yeah let you know even when we' talked about how Joe cin has some similarities with uh you know efon Bond the former defensive coordinator there are some differences and there's there's going to be little things here and there I know uh there's a lot to talk about versatility and improving your worth being able to play multiple positions um but yeah you know the physicality and being aggressive you know those are again things they're going to be expected of this defense um and they're going to have to play smart I think that's something where maybe if you look at how the defense may be underperformed in in your mind and that's that this defense is a little complicated guys are learning multiple positions they're learning how to do multiple things and so it it could could look a little ugly early on if they don't catch on soon enough by the time they play Iowa but this is something where I think later in the year or just depending on how fast they they pick this up this is a defense that could become dangerous uh because of how versatile and the the number of different things they can do yeah and Max hord talked about that too about being versatile being able to uh slide into different positions um as this is a great time to develop that if you got so many new fa and new players if you can be versatile and do multiple things you're going to find yourself uh more opportunities to do things on the field but it's going to help if guy gets if a guy gets hurt or if the certain defensive style needs to shift during the course of the game you've got people who can do that and shift with it and so max Alford kind of praised that versatility that's being developed on this defense too coach uh CN always talks about you got to be able to show your value and he was talking about guys being able to have to play multiple roles just in case and um you got to show them uh where your value like if you're good at Rushing we'll find a way to get you to rush if you're good at blit we'll find you a way to get you out there so I think um you know we just got to be uh be able to play multiple positions for everyone and I think that's what'll give us an edge for playing during the fall yeah I mean one thing I noticed like you know Simeon Harris's kind of listed at safety probably going to start alongside uh ik Larson I almost said Cooper lagal right there be weird started next to Cooper it's really interesting change of position but with Anthony Switzer out you know he's playing that kind of hybrid safety linebacker spot there I believe they're calling Sam at least that's what I heard from from Joe C they just basically call it Sam the hybrid spot but that's where Simeon Harris kind of started out playing as he's playing in that position uh so he's playing you know one spot where it's this hybrid safety linebacker where you got to be you know playing the box and playing coverage but he's also got to be able to play safety where he's gonna be a bit more and maybe more coverage specific uh you know you know type role so guys got to be able to play multi and heck um con talked about Switzer himself having to play those multiple spots where he's he's also going to play that hybrid you know Sam spot and at safety micheel lanu cornerback Nickelback got to be able to learn to do a lot of different things defens even the defensive ends got to learn to drop back in coverage every now and again that's something Kian Sloan talked about yeah right so the ability to do multiple things and it may be complicated at first but again it once once you figure those things out you become an incredibly dangerous defense because then it becomes you know the offense tries to get up there to read the defense they don't know what the heck's going on right because they can you probably watch and film your coaches will know okay when these players are in this is the type of defensive scheme we're going to get so we can plan around that we can attack it in these different ways but if you have guys that are in there that defense shows you one thing and then it shows you something else and then it shows you something else but you've still got the same Personnel out there they drive you crazy in offense as an offensive coordinator yeah and like quarterback especially these college quarterbacks where they're not as developed in terms of knowing how to read defenses they'll make throws because they see a front and they put in a spot because they know I'm taught When I See This front I throw this pass well suddenly they throw that pass they think that somebody's not there but all of a sudden the linebacker standing right in the passing window cuz the defense didn't do what the quarterback expected and he gets pick six cuz he just happens to be standing in the right spot cuz the defense confused the quarterback and maybe even confused the offensive coordinator cuz maybe the offensive coordinator didn't see it coming otherwise he wouldn't have told the quarterback to do that kind of thing in that specific scenario so but but that's not the thing you can expect to see in week one against Iowa don't expect Utah State to come up in these crazy packages know everything because there's a bunch of guys who for one don't have a ton of snaps in college football to begin with you know but they're young and they're learning the new defense so this is very much a late season type thing type potential you know they could be this we'll see if they can again I I have to say this every time they could be this we'll see if they do it we'll see how they grow by the end of the season maybe they make a late season push to get into a Bull game again couple of texts coming through 9315 what did the offensive play calling look like hope different than last year uh offensive play calling was it's a I thought it was a better Pace uh move with the ball around to different wide receivers different parts of the field um I liked how the the running backs were getting involved there were times where it was just kind of a it was a quick Pace but it was a slow plotting drive if that makes sense it might seem like counter to what it means but they they weren't always in big chunks so they make they do quick calls and they pick up three yards four yards a run that picked up a couple of yards but it was it was pretty steady but there were a few deep shots down the field um some of them connected some of them didn't but um I am encouraged by what I'm seeing on the offensive play calling now we didn't see your regular tight ends in there which means with some of those guys that would normally be available things might get a little bit tighter when they use these different packages so it was a little bit spread out more on Saturday than you normally would see in a game but I'm I'm encouraged by what I'm seeing again was it totally blown away but there were some things that I I'm encouraged by yeah I I did like and it's hard to judge play calling because for them it was practi I don't know how much Credence they were giving to what the actual technical down and distance was they may have just been running plays because they're trying to practice these plays and they're just doing in front of people with sticks and with refs and whatnot so it's hard to judge exactly how the play calling is going to be situationally but you do like again the pace yeah it's a you know three yard gain quick to the line of scrimmage doesn't has the same feeling of throwing a 25 yard pass and then sprinting up to the line of scrimmage but I mean that's playing at PACE you know and that's the kind of thing you do constantly to to get the defense out of sorts and to wear them down by the end of the game um I did like the fact they were aggressive and were effective in getting down the field uh and it was kind of like 2021 if you remember that year they struggled a lot with the Run they'd get a two-yard play a three yard play and then a 37 yard pass to Brandon bowling and then you know a big play to Devin Tomkins for a touchdown that's what your drive would look like yeah absolutely right I mean it would come in these big chunks after it looked like the drive wasn't going anywhere then suddenly you have a wide receiver take the top off the defense and they'd flip the field and get down there and score points but for big chunks of the the drive it was kind of plotting if that's the right term to use in just small chunks small chunks and all of a sudden a big play would happen and and get the team going yeah and I think you could see that a bit this year an ideal words You' be able to average four or five yards per play and get the big chunks but this year you may see the same you know setting up on Third and seven and that's where you make the big play it's not ideal but they made it work in 2021 yeah yeah I think you don't want to get behind in the chains because that makes it a little bit more challenging on your play calling but I think this team has the ability with its Playmakers to get those yards when and if need them uh 0737 texting in you said that Switzer is out is that news I thought he was healthy this season so that's somebody we probably updated on and actually Blake Anderson talked about kind of gave a bit of an injury update so we'll play that in just a second but yeah uh Anthony Switzer he was out um he didn't have pads on but he was Fielding kickoffs and punts and he was running all over the field acting like a second coach so um from what I understand it was not like a a physical injury that would affect like his legs or his arms or things like that just kind of a a banged up thing precautionary I do worry a little bit of like how is this guy going to be able to stay healthy the whole year because he's been plagued by injuries but you know long-term injury recovery you tend to be cautious but here's Blake Anderson talking about just the injury update some of the guys that sat out I'll give you kind of a full list of of I think it might have been win or two guys didn't specifically mentioned but we'll uh just clear up the injury situation with this clip and coming out of it we haven't had a season ending injury yet thank God we've got a couple bumps and bruises both uh sturs and and Alonzo and Buchan in the tight end room took a big hit this week they should all be back within a week to two weeks uh so it's we had to you notice in the second group they stay spread out the entire time it's just all the bodies we had nobody right now that is in is dealing with an injury that is season long uh the next two three weeks you'll be critical to try to get them all back Switzer and Bak who saw yeah Switzer I think you'll see next week uh stirs a few weeks Parker and Isaiah uh probably within the next week and spers probably within the next week as well so there you have it nothing season ending a couple of guys probably just going to be seen next week he mentioned Switzer as one guy you'll see next week uh Josh ster probably going to be out a few weeks he might miss a week or two of the regular season maybe at worst uh at least in Ideal World where clearly there's a few weeks of an injury but hopefully it doesn't extend beyond the three or so weeks or however long that's going to be so you specified most of the guys probably going to be back soon a few of them by next week's scrimmages probably most of the guys their current trajectory is going to be healthy by week one and then nothing season ending as of now so and and by all accounts that's pretty good usually you've had one if you're unlucky to real bad injuries in Camp Nagi seem to have avoided that so far but you know knock on would there's a little bit left yeah yeah so next uh this next Saturday I hope there's a good crowd like it's going to be family fun day like they're they're going to have a lot of different things going on um chance to get down on the field or or at least uh meet with the players afterwards I hope it's a good crowd that's there look this is I know there's a lot of questions about this team deserved question questions I'm not saying you're you know anybody's wrong for having the questions that they do have I know there were things that were said last year from the coach about the fans that rubbed a lot of people the wrong way I get that um but look this is a team that's trying to come together in a different way and I think some of those distractions from last year have been removed that created some of those controversies and the the the other thing too is if we're talking about conference realignment and powers that be look at what is the fan support of these various institutions will there be you know fan support if we bring them in is there going to be a a longterm viability you know what what is the fan support for Utah State and so this is a great opportunity to show that fan support and to show that look this is a team that does have the support of its fan base and of people who want to see football succeed he you do like to see a lot of the fans out there supporting and know it shows that there is interest you know there's fans who will turn on the game hear about it on radio check the score then there's those who show up in the offseason to watch teams basically run glorified drills and sometimes that can be it's not always the greatest measure of the passion because there's other factors into whether or not you go to a fall game sure and you're not a it's it's not a gatekeeping thing where you're only a true fan but it certainly does go a long way to show the support that when you can see it sure I mean there there there are teams who sell tickets to their scrimmage and they sell out uh it's free for Utah State and there's a lot of fun things that they try to do surrounding the event to draw families in because for some people it it's it's financially a challenge for their family to go to one game or multiple games so this is this is their look in person of what Utah State football looks like so I hope it's a good crowd yeah we're going to take a break I want to touch on something you're talking about you know Blake Anderson as far as you know him as a coach because there's something Cooper lag God talked about that I thought was kind of interesting but we're going to take a break we'll have that on the but uh coach Anderson he knows his players he knows what they can do with the ball in their hands and um he knows how to use them get them away from different coverages and mismatches honestly a lot of confidence in these players in in Blake Anderson you know they've been asked over and over and over and over again how's Blake Anderson doing as a head coach offensive coordinator how's he doing as a head coach offens a coordinator and uh he's you know he's Gott a lot of Praise from these guys you know Von talking about little bit on next's nose are just like knowing his player so he knows where to put him in position which is something these guys really need because last year questions about play calling whether or not the players were utilized as well as they could have been all year that's going to be a big thing for this year because they did that in 2021 they put their guys in the positions and they made plays 2022 they didn't so the offense struggled then is it you know obvious obviously didn't struggle in 2021 but one thing that I want to talk about with Cooper lag go you know he was he was asked about Blake Anderson because you know everyone's asking everyone has to everyone everyone has to ask but uh kind of talked about him just you know how we came into the team so going all the way back to 2021 and how things have evolved a little bit and how you know Blake Anderson's become a leader a real leader from the front as a head coach I mean from the day he got here he came into a really broken team and I think he understood what he was coming into and he knew that he couldn't just start yelling at us from day one he had to build that trust and he came in and he told us that hey I have to have to earn your guys trust and he just has shown us with his actions every day since 21 when he got here and still to this day he's he does what he says he's going to do and so everyone trusts him everyone Buys in and he's a he's a great leader and and that's kind of the impression I've gotten a lot of what legga said it's hard to know a man from talking to him in press conferences but you do get a bit of a sense as far as you know when he's open when he's not doing coach speak all the time Anderson feels like he's fairly open yes so it seems consistent with what I've seen of him that yeah he's a guy who says what he's going to do and he screws up and I'm sure he screwed up plenty of times but he owns up to it a lot of the times he he he takes ownerships of things and that's where you talked about being a great leader and it you know it gets people to believe in you and it gets people to buy in and Heaven Knows that's what what Blake Anderson needs right now is for these players to buy into what he's you know he's talking about and for them to execute what he wants them to execute yeah and he has to rely on some good people around him and he wouldn't be taking this responsibility on if he didn't feel like he had that support because it's Kyle SEO and it's other on his other members of his staff have to fill in and take larger roles because there are times where he has to be the head coach and he can't be in the offensive room and to always spend time working on the offense but this is a guy who was an excellent offensive play caller before he was a head coach and he has lots of experience as being both the offensive play caller and the head coach so this isn't new territory he's not experimenting on Utah State he's been there he knows how it works and he's got good people around him to help execute it and I think that's a big reason why he wanted to make that step in because like all right I know I know how to do this job so I'm not going to let somebody else do the job that I kind of know how to do not kind of know how to do he does know how to do it so now we'll see if it works you know these things don't always work but Heaven you know it's worked in the past so maybe it'll work this year uh we do need to take another break on the other side pick six results we'll see if Eric continues his streak or establishes a streak or if I managed to get a win so we'll have that coming up next here on the full court about five six seven hours all right so got to get to pick six results uh the six things we tried to predict over the weekend I mentioned Eric you won the last time we did this is about a month ago before that I had a nice win streak so we'll see if uh which way this goes so we'll start with uh the lines that I set so I set the line uh region 11 or wins by region 11 teams on Friday I set the line at three and a half uh I took the under you took the over and uh those of you listening early in the hour know that that certainly went in the direction of the over yes five wins by region 11 teams uh next uh points combined points and rebounds by Walker Kessler Saturday against slov Slovenia over under n and a half I don't know if I found an official box score but from what I found he only had three bucket and rebound uh so the under going to go with that okay which you took the under I took the over see up two Z ah okay uh then we have Jordan love passing yards against the Bengals over under 75 and a half you took the over I took the under he only had 46 he did go seven of 10 46 yards in a touchdown didn't have the greatest yard so I pulled one back so it's 2-1 let's go into the lines that you set Simone font Teo points against Greece over under 162 points you took the under I took the over he had 13 oo so you got the under you 3-1 I'm in dire straits here uh another Walker Kessler line uh minutes against Slovenia you set the line four and a half I took the over you took the under he played less than that he played two minutes he I think he played three and a half minutes he checked in with three and a half minutes to go play the rest of the way close close but not quite so you're up you've You've Won now there's not enough room for me to win so you're up four four to one but let's just go to the final one just for fun Orioles at Mariners combined runs five and a half you took the under I took the over those of you who watch this game I'm sorry it went to 10 Innings and was a 1 game so that was a that was what they call a pitchers duel and uh very much the under so you win 5 to one wow wow and you would have got the tiebreaker so you know there we go not a great week for me let's start a new streak yes the new streak is established you're at two in a row on and and I got to come back Summers have been good to me in the pick six but then we got into the regular you know regular season you know fall football and basketball you always came back and it was a lot more even so maybe that'll be the same way this this year where I went on a big streak in the summer and then we evened things out but I know I always like going on winning streaks but so do I you got used to it though you got used to it with a that's true then I then I served it right back at you for uh when I first came in here just walked in and started walking all over you yes the uh the the the balancing scale is has become a little bit more balanced in that sense so uh certainly a lot of exciting stuff we've had to talk about on this show we'll have more of that tomorrow we've got plenty more sound that I think we only went through about we went through a lot of clips and I think we only did half of them so yeah and if you want to go back and see uh all of what they had to say we've got the video clips from a post scrimmage with what coach and players had to say online on cash valy daily.com on Jason's recap of the scrimmage all right thank you so much for listening we'll talk to you more tomorrow we'll have more Utah State agies on the full court press
