we will begin with the rookie running back brayan Allen 6 foot1 235 pounds 20 years old out of Wisconsin he is a 2024 fourth round pick 134th overall played three seasons at Wisconsin and then got his name called in this year's NFL Draft you saw the height and weight right just read it to you 6 foot1 235 pounds an absolute monster an absolute Beast uh for a running back and a guy that Jets fans should be really really excited about has a lot of potential has a very very high ceiling and is a really exciting player specifically because of how young he is and how much he still has in terms of growth and how much his how high his potential can really be this is a guy that just 20 years old and it's crazy youngest player in the draft but that's not even the craziest part that he was the youngest player in this year's draft it's also the fact that Aaron Rodgers is entering his 20th season in the NFL and brillan Allen is 20 years old so basically Aaron Rodgers's first year was the year brayan Allen was born and now they are teammates now they are quarterback running back tandems for the New York Jets as we enter the 2024 season and brillan Allen before we get into some of the numbers before we get into some of what he brings to the table and exactly how he will fit in this New York Jets offense this is exactly what the New York Jets needed behind Breeze Hall Breeze Hall is your doit all just great running back out of the back field as a pass catcher legitimate number one threat I mean legitimately the best arguably the one of the best running backs in the NFL I think a lot of people would say Breeze Hall is probably number two behind Christian mcaffrey uh had the most total yards for a running back last year only behind Christian mcaffrey and you have your Do-it all back in Breeze Hall but the New York Jets have been searching for that physical downhill third down back that can complement Breeze Hall perfectly and that is exactly what you're getting and what you should be getting out of brilin out of out of Wisconsin at three years at Wisconsin Allen had 597 carries for 3,494 yards 5.9 yards per carry and 35 touchdowns he had back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons in 2021 and 2022 and the one reason he didn't have as in impressive yards numbers this year with 984 yards was the scheme a new system implemented at Wisconsin which really didn't fit brayan Allen's game um but in terms of his production at the NFL level this is the perfect fit for the New York Jets for the last couple years for a while now the Jets have been struggling to find that identity on offense of physicality downhill Runners not just at the running back position but also at the receiver position physical receivers guys that are going to be tough to bring down just all around physical players at skill positions And The Jets really kind of accomplished that with two players in this draft brillan all a physical downhill running back and they also were able to do it in Malachi KY the yak King who they took in the third round of this draft out of Western Kentucky who we will break down here in a future episode but fits exactly what you need you're all purpose back in Breeze Hall that is a beast could come away with this year or you can make a case at the end of the season Bree might have the most all-purpose yards among all running backs that's how good he should be this year behind this offensive line and then you have that third down back in brayen Allen who also through a couple training camp practices so far has shown the ability to be a really productive pass catcher out of the back field which is something that's also really positive if that does kind of come to fruition and he kind of breaks that out uh that part of his game out as he enters the NFL here and gets into in-game action and gets to the right regular season and all that stuff but some of the numbers that are so impressive when you talk about his downhill running and third down back and how that'll complement to Breeze Hall when you look at some of the numbers right 35 touchdowns ranked fourth most in the FBS since 2021 but it wasn't just that what's most impressive is those gritty those grimy yards that Allen is able to pick up since 2021 Allen rushed for 1,493 yards up the middle which was second best in the FBS only behind Blake Corum also in the Big 10 out of Michigan who was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in this draft so number two in yards in all of college football when running up the middle that is exactly what the New York Jets needed a guy that can be a physical four five yards you need it even a third and2 third and three situation lower his shoulder pick up three4 gritty yards Red Zone situations late game situations a fourth down and one fourth down and two situation need a big run need a tough physical two yards brillan Allen does that for you and he gives the Jets a legitimate threat as a third down back that's something that they have struggled to find through Bree Hall's first year it's kind of been Bree Hall and that's it now it's Breeze Hall and brilin Allen a legitimate one-two punch that you can be excited for if you're a Jeet fan also a guy that provides a little bit of speed ran a 4.040 for uh for his 40 yard dash at the combine and for a guy that is 61 235 pounds running a 4440 was pretty impressive a guy that if he can get to the second level has the ability to get into another Gear with some of his burst and get to the second level and uh kind of break into another gear which is obviously I think something else that is really really pivotal for this New York Jets team and the Jets have also been a team that have really struggled on third down you go back to last season part of its play calling no doubt but a lot of it too was third down running they didn't do a very good job converting third Downs last year again third down running situations was not their strength they converted just 25.9% of their third Downs last season which was dead last in the NFL something that brillan Allen should really help this year so I I I wouldn't say it was a surprise pick when it happened but it was certainly maybe a pick that not all Jets fans saw coming um and I think it does show part of the Jets not having full belief in izy Aban nonda as their number two number three back and now brillan Allen can come in here immediately slots in as number two on the depth chart and immediately right away compliments Bree perfectly you know we talked about the 3,494 yards in his career that is ninth in Wisconsin program history which is really impressive considering he is a guy that came from considering Wisconsin is a school that has a lot of great running backs and a lot of great talent that has come out of that school has kind of been a running back you for a very long time producing very good talent um like Jonathan Taylor and guys like that his best season yards wise came in 2021 where he had 1,268 yards and then he had 12 over 12200 yards again in 202 to a touchdown machine like we said those 35 touchdowns are fourth most in the FBS since 2021 so a guy that is very very familiar with finding the end zone and I think you should be able to find the end zone a lot in those short down and distances in the Red Zone gritty grimy yards big spots in games uh big third down situations brillan Allen is exactly the back that the New York Jets needed and they got in the fourth round um um 134th overall out of Wisconsin so a guy I'm really excited about and I think a lot of other Jets fans should also be really excited about especially if you see his receiving game get to another level because that's not really something he ever really unlocked in college was his ability to be a productive pass catcher out of the backfield in his three years at College he had 49 receptions for 275 yards and 5.6 yards per reception which was actually less yards per reception than he did per uh per carry 5.9 yards per carry 5.6 yards per per reception he also never had a receiving touchdown so his 35 career touchdowns from scrimmage all came from the ground um and he has 3,769 total scrimmage yards in his three years at Wisconsin 3,494 of those came on the ground so if he's able to get you know we'll see how much he's actually used as a pass catcher this year because Bree Halls your B your kind of your bell Cal to just do it all back but if brayan Allen can break out a little bit as a pass catcher I think that's a whole another element to his game that is huge for the Jets and maybe in a way get more production than just a third down short yardage back so definitely something to keep an eye on is if that kind of takes off that pass catching ability so that is brillan Allen running back rookie running back out of Wisconsin alongside Bree Hall that's your onew punch in 2024 moving on now to another new edition two new editions today on the podcast one draft pick one free agent signing and that is Javon kinlaw 65319 pounds 26 years old he will be 27 in October so entering his age 26 age 27 season out of South Carolina he is a 2020 first round pick 14th overall by the San Francisco 49ers where he has spent the first four years of his NFL career in San Francisco and has now signed this off season a one-year $7 million contract to come to the Big Apple and reunite with his former defensive coordinator who was his defensive coordinator for his rookie year in 2020 before taking over as the Jets head coach Robert Salos so kinlaw knows the system will jump right into the system has familiarity with Robert Salah and they reunite now with the New York Jets here in 2024 kinlaw is a very interesting player to break down because I will be completely honest I don't really know what to expect from Javon kinlaw this season I really don't I think there is going to be one of two things happens and maybe I could be wrong you know it's July 26th the season's still a month and a half away maybe kinla has a great training camp and the Jets we all hyped up and man this guy's going to be a threat and he's gonna have a breakout season but I I think we're gonna get one of two things out of J Javon kin it's either going to be he's gonna have a really good year a really solid season go out there and kind of fill the shoes of Quinton Jefferson have five and a half six sacks career-high big season or he's going to go out there and in a way be a non-factor because that's kind of the way his NFL career has gone first round pick 14th overall he has not lived up to those expectations at all there has been flashes but there's been a lot of inconsistency a lot of missing time this is a guy that has played Just 41 games in four years that's an average of 10.25 games per year last year he played 17 games that was the first time in His Four Seasons that he played every single game and it paid off he had a career from a sack standpoint three and a half sacks which isn't much he only has five sacks in Four Seasons so that's my point right off the bat I will be completely bluntly honest this is a guy that can go out there this season and have two sacks and be an absolute non-fa not that Stacks are everything but kinlaw is for what he needs to do on this Jets defensive line and we'll get to some of the numbers that he's going to need to cover up for we'll get to some statistics to back this point up kinlaw is going to need to produce when it comes to getting to the quarterback because while you've got Quinn Williams while you've got Germaine Johnson Assan reck once he's back from the contract while you've got those guys kinlaw is again replacing the shoes of Quinton Jefferson kind of replacing a jfm um even gonna have to replace some of the sack production left by Bryce Huff so he's gonna have to get to the quarterback he's gonna have to wrap up he's gonna have to bring the quarterback down he's gonna have to have a good amount of sacks and a good amount of pressures this year in order for this to really be considered a productive 2024 campaign and in order for this to be considered still an elite defensive line kinlaw is going to be a big piece of the puzzle he really is he's an underrated piece and we'll see if he can do it I mean he went two years without logging a sack 2021 2022 he played 10 games combin didn't have a sack in those 10 games last year at three and a half sacks that was a career high he's got five sacks total in his career he also had six quarterback hits he also had one and a half stuffs not crazy impressive but it was progress considering what he did in his previous first three seasons after being selected top 15 now there is reason for hope that 2023 campaign is a Reason for Hope right 25 tackles three and a half sacks six quarterback hits not impressive but there were career highs for him that's good he's on the right path he also played all 17 games he played 14 his 2020 played Four in 2021 6 in 2022 so staying on the field hasn't been a strength of is but he did it all of last year crit good credit to him so that's a positive another positive is the Jets this is another Reclamation project the New York Jets love this Robert salid Jeff rri love Reclamation projects they also love first round picks up front they love it because right now they've got five first round picks Quinn Williams Devon kinw Germaine Johnson Will McDonald Solomon Thomas now Germaine quinnon are obviously elite players they are not Reclamation projects they are the complete opposite of that they are guys that have lived up to the back of their playing card and lived up to their Draft pick status Will McDonald we have to see year number two we need to see him take a jump Solomon Thomas was a Reclamation project did not live up to the hype of being a top five pick in San Francisco reunited with Salah in New York and has been productive at a good year last year and now kinlaw is also known as a Reclamation project he's one of those five first round picks up front so those are your five first round picks but other Reclamation projects or other former first round picks that Robert Salah and this coaching staff have brought in here's just a couple names Shaq Lawson right was brought in to replace uh Carl Lawson when um he tour his Achilles in 2021 Solomon Thomas we already mentioned Sheldon rankins first round pick didn't really pan out for New Orleans was okay didn't live up to the billing though came to New York was really productive and now even Tac McKinley who is getting a chance to fight for a roster spot also a former first round pick in Atlanta was at OTAs signed on the camp he's fighting for a spot now so the Jets are very very familiar they also were interested in Javon Clowney as well in the off season so the Jets are very very familiar with this and that's why I have trust that Javon k law can have his best season of his NFL career with New York this year because New York Robert Salah Jeff rri have been very good at bringing in guys that don't necessarily live up to their draft status don't really live up to the hype Arc of reclamation projects need to turn their career around and they're able to do so and they've done it many times with many different guys Solomon Thomas is one of them coming over from San Francisco Javon kinla a little bit different with the way his career has kind of panned out he's been in some areas a non-factor Solomon Thomas was okay kinlaw at some points has been just flat out awful but that's where you've got to believe you got to trust his coaching staff and I've gotten to a point where Robert Salah not a very good head coach we know that but I think you've gotten to a point as a Jet fan where you can at least trust him from a defensive perspective and you can trust Jeff olberg from a defensive perspective that you know that they've built they've built this defense same thing with Joe Douglas you you could trust him building up this defense they've built this thing from the ground up so you can trust that they're gonna you know you got to be able to trust them that they they obviously see something in kinlaw they've done this before they've had success with doing this before kinlaw's coming off of his best season it's not impressive but it's still his best season of his career and we'll see what happens we'll see if this really works out if it pans out look it's a lowrisk move it's a low-risk high reward one year seven million your high reward is you get six and a half sacks out of him he kind of does what Quinton Jefferson did last year let's say play 14 15 games productive player gets to the quarterback that's exactly what you need at that position in a potential starting role we'll see how the defensive line Looks week one um but in a potential starting role as currently labeled on the depth chart he's your starter in between quinnon and Germaine Johnson on the left side of that defensive line at tackle he's going to need to put up that sack production um and Jefferson gone Huff gone jfm gone three of those guys there's a lot of sack production between Jefferson and huff just those two guys combined not even counting jfm but between huff and Jefferson that the Jets lost 33% of their sack production in this offseason klaw is going to have to recoup some of that ideally he does what Jefferson did last year which is six sacks that's ideal I think Jets fans can get behind if he puts up maybe five sacks I think that'd be okay anything less kind of disappointing especially if he's on the field and he's healthy and he's playing every game you know if he's only playing 10 games and he has four sacks then it's a different story but if he plays all seven and he has four sacks a little disappointing I think you're looking at anywhere to five to six sacks I think would be a productive season I don't think it's crazy to say he could do that this coaching staff has brought in players like this had success with bringing in players like this and kinla hopefully is no different and he's a really big piece underrated piece but a really big piece to an interior defensive line that needs to fill some shoes from an offseason with some exits so that's Javon kinla entering F his fifth year started to turn a corner last year can he continue to turn that corner and Elevate his game once again here in 2024 under Robert Salah another I guess glass half full approach to Javon kimla is his rookie year he had three and he had a half a sack 33 tackles poor he was able to had four passes defended was able to call some chaos up front was able to call some pressure that was under Robert okay first year in the league then went through some bumps in year one and year two didn't register a sack then last year three and a half sacks career year so he's coming off for career year and in his second best season was under Robert Salah now he's back with Salah coming off a crew year you match it together you hope the momentum can continue you just hope this pans out because it would be really really big if it does all right so those are your player previews episode three of this series brillan Allen running back out of Wisconsin and Javon kinlaw free agent Edition after spending four years in San Fran let me know
