[Music] you are watching Bangals breakdown by Chad Sports and I am your host Stone Shields thank you so much for joining us here on a Wednesday as the Bengals get ready to take the field tomorrow night at home against the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday night football for the pre-season finale so on today's show Adam schfer of ESPN had a little update SL report on Jamar Chase and his ongo contract Saga we'll call it so we'll dive into that on today's show also miles Murphy went down at practice the bangle joint practice with the Indianapolis cult yesterday appears as though he has avoided a significant injury but we'll give you some details on that I also have one joint practice observation I will provide for you guys on today's show and there have been some rumors out there that samama Pine could be the odd man out in Denver and could a possible reunion with Cincinnati be on the horizon with the Bengals running back room a little bit thin with the Chris Evans injury so that is coming up on today's show but first make sure you guys hit that subscribe button so we can continue to grow our channel here at Bengals breakdown we're trying to double our sub total from August of 2023 and I'm really hoping we can do it right here on today's show as you can see there we are only 13 Subs away from making that happen so help us out hit that sub button trying to double that August 2023 total here's the quote from ESPN's Adam shefer in regards to Bengal star wide receiver Jamar Chase he said this is the one to me that remains the most mysterious because unlike Brandon iuk and CD lamb Jamar Chase has two years left on his contract not one we've already heard Bengals president Mike Brown come out and say he would prefer to wait to do this deal now I think Cincinnati will push to get this deal done but from my understanding there hasn't been a whole lot of progress if there's not a whole lot of progress you wonder what's next now CAD Joo said over the weekend he thinks the two sides will figure out a deal this week but he also added that if the two sides can't get a deal done he does not believe that Jamar Chase will step foot on a football field again until he has a new contract I think there are other people around the league who feel the same way about that particular situation that I think has flown a little bit under the radar I just want to reiterate here I would be shocked if Jamar Chase isn't out there with the Cincinnati Bengals in uniform week one against the New England Patriots throughout his career he hasn't proven that he's a selfish guy in fact he's really proven that he's a fierce competitor I think in his mind he wants to go down as one of the greatest receivers to ever play the position and he just really has that tenacity out there when he's competing on the football field and I just would be really surprised if he decided to miss games because of this ongoing contract dispute and like Sher said he has two years left on his deal obviously he wants it to get done now but he doesn't have a ton of Leverage here right he's going into his fourth year in the league the team still has control over the next two years and then after that if they wanted they could franchise tag him as well so the ball really isn't in um you know Jamal Jamar Chase's court at this point the Bengals kind of have all the leverage in this situation but from Cincinnati's perspective this is the cheapest you're going to be able to get Jamar Chase so there's certainly some incentive in terms of getting a deal done but we're going to learn about a lot about Jamar Chase here coming up shortly right because if he sits out I mean that really kind of clouds the way that I personally feel about him as a teammate and as a football player right this is a season where Cincinnati has everything in front of him they got T Higgins coming back for probably his last year in Cincinnati they got a healthy Joe burrow who has made it through training camp on paper this is the Bengals best chance to win a Super Bowl and if he starts out the season by not being out there just a selfish decision if it comes to that point but again I would be completely shocked if that happened the numbers speak for themselves right Jamar chase you understand why he doesn't want to go out and play on his current contract because he understands just how valuable of a piece he is to this team as one of the best receivers in the National Football League his base salary of only just over a million certainly doesn't uh you know isn't equivalent to what uh the production looks like out on the field for Jamar Chase I'm really expecting a big year for him I hope all this gets resolved so he's out there week one and the Bengals can get after it and try to um you know win the AFC North and go out there and make another run in the playoffs leads us to the pin comment of today's show does Jamar Chase play week one we've asked you guys this before and we're going to continue to ask you guys this question as we get closer to week one but let us know in the comments section type y for yes or type n for no so at the Bengals joint practice yesterday former first round pick miles Murphy suffered an injury it was a knee issue and he left practice with the Colts and it was a non- contct um injury and those of course can be very scary because a lot of situations where those non- contct injuries prove to be very serious but James Ren of Sports Illustrated have boots on the ground at Bengals practice yesterday and we've got some good news in regards to this miles Murphy in y here's what rine wrote he said fortunately he only suffered a sprain League sources tell Bengals talk he's going to miss some time but it's great news considering how he went down and how serious non contact injuries can be mangals are still evaluating the timeline but the seconde pro still has a chance of suiting up week one even if he doesn't make it back for the opener against the Patriots he isn't expected to miss extended time Murphy walked off the field gingerly and was driven to the locker Lo room he was limping in the locker room but wasn't using crutches or a brace obviously the Bengals are going to need miles Murphy a lot this year when you look at their uh defensive and depth chart this is kind of what you get Sam hubard has been back by the way he's been participating in individual drills not a lot of Team oriented stuff but good to see him back out in pads and on the football field with the cam sample injury guys are going to have to step up miles Murphy's gonna be one of those guys we'll see if he's out there week one but whenever he is he's going to need to produce for Cincinnati and all eyes are really on Joseph osai entering the final year of his rookie deal he needs to have a good season for Cincinnati because as we've talked about before that pass rush last year was really Trey Hendrickson or nothing and if the Bengals are going to be successful on defense they need their front to really step up for them in 2024 so what is your concern level with Miles Murphy's injury um I like I said it appears as though we've avoided disaster with the knee issue but let us know in the comments section go ahead and scale it for US 1 to 10 in the comments of today's show want to give a shout out to kind of my observation from the Bengals joint practice and it revolves around a former first round pick Dax Hill the Colts tested Dax Hill a lot and he rose to the occasion with multiple pass breakups for Cincinnati in that joint practice he really just keeps getting better and better with every time we see him out there at that quarterback position so I'm making it official I am officially predicting Dax Hill to be the starter at that cornerback to spot early on it felt like DJ Turner had a significant leg up in this competition ition but everything we've seen from Dax Hill at the practices and the preseason as well has indicated that Dax Hill is more than ready for this opportunity and for this Challenge and I would like to see him out there against New England week one playing alongside cam Taylor Brit at cornerback for the Cincinnati Bengals don't get it twisted both guys are going to play both guys are going to have a role but at this point I think Dax Hill has the upper hand in that position battle his Improvement like I said has been absolutely incredible I mean it's not easy switching a position at the professional level even though he was you know obviously still a DB but switching over from that safety spot kind of playing that center field rle if you will to going up and having to cover a guy at the line of scrimmage I think he's done an excellent job of that I'm really excited to see what Dax Hill does in 2024 for the Bengals I'm really excited about the linebackers in the secondary as a whole when you hear these reports from Bengals training camp practices seems like the defense are getting the upper hand a lot of times right linebackers Logan Wilson's been playing really well main Pratt those two guys looking to have better years than they did in 2023 in 2024 and the secondary getting Von Bell back to just help with the communication bringing in a guy like Gino Stone from Baltimore really excited really think the back end's going to perform really well for Cincinnati and uh really the question with Luan rumo's defense right now is all that defensive line all up front what is that group going to be able to do is there inability to stop the run going to be what holds this defense back I hope not but like I said really comfortable with what I've seen from the linebackers and the secondary and think they're going to have a big year in 2024 as a unit lastly before we get out of here could Asam per reunion be on the horizon for Cincinnati obviously you got Chris Evans being placed on IR he was out for the year unfortunately um in that room gets a lot thinner now you got guys like um certainly Zach moss and Chase Brown and beyond that you're looking at trayon Williams and Noah Kane and Elijah Collins your next running backs for the Bengals when you look at what per ry's done last year he seems to be the odd man out in Denver a lot of people around that Broncos team think that he's probably going to be a potential cut candidate and be on his way out sooner rather than later for Denver but when you think about what he did in his time with Cincinnati is he a go-to back no but his ability on third down really was exceptional I thought and I'm really excited um to see what samaj purine could potentially do if he were to come back to the Cincinnati Bengals because I think a lot of people here in Cincinnati got a lot of love for Sam perine and um it'll be interesting to see if he perhaps comes back I I'm not ruling it out I'm not expecting it again when you look at the Bengals running back room they've got guys that they believe in in Zach Moss Chase Brown trayon Williams and uh Elijah Collins and Noah Kane as well but this now becomes more of a possibility with the Chris Evans injury so I think the Bengals are comfortable with what they have at running back and I am not predicting that samj perine comes back but if he does get cut you're going to see the rumors start to fly as people around the organization kind of throw the idea out there that Sam py could be making a return to Cincinnati could be possible with evans's injury but um I think the Bengals feel good about what they have at running back currently and make sure you guys follow me over on Twitter ston Shields trying to get to 400 followers really made some good progress over the month of August all of our
