hey magic fans welcome back this is your captain speaking here on Captain Clyde's MTG got a quick one today but some very interesting news I'm going to catch up with as we start doubling it up on the videos for the next couple days we're going to talk about ban restricted list and how you can get a whole box of modern Horizons 3 by playing Arena so before we get started don't forget comment like description for other ways to help support the channel buy yourself some cards I sell all the stuff I open in the boxes for the most part so you know it's real you know it's there and you know I got it so hey why not get it that make any sense anyway with all that said let's get into it we're going to start off with this little doozy here so this is an event that's going to be coming up here in the next couple days probably this weekend uh starting on Friday uh it's something new called Arena direct and what it is is you play Arena and you can win a whole box of modern Horizon 3 play boosters um so as you can see from the format it is 5,000 gems you can only lose once I know it's there's I know there's two spots here but the first loss will fill this one the second one will fill this one and kick you from the tournament um this is basically um play Play a box um the tournaments you have where you just kind of you play for the whole box now with that said notice up here it says sign up for this event you'll get if you get six wins you win a physical box of modern RIS 3 boosters the format for the event is six packs of mod Horizon 3 sealed with single game matches so there's no sideboard because there's no more than one game and you do for 5,000 gems get six packs which is kind of cool so you do get at least a little something if you can't get all the way up here to get some of your gems back now this is about time that we started something like this on Arena the old um the old Moto had it where you could collect cards if you collected a whole set they send you the physical cards if you turned them in yada yada yada now Arena's never had that which is one of the biggest problems with Arena you can't get cards from playing in it I think this is a good compromise where you can play in a tournament and if you get six wins you can get a whole play booster box of modern Horizons 3 and I expect to see them do this more moving forward with other sets as well now with that being said this is a premium box um so I understand the 5,000 gems if we go forward and we get other play booster boxes for example uh bloomo uh it will be rather let us say unfair um since Bloom bur is going to cost literally half as much as play boosters for modern Horizon 3 for them to charge the same 5,000 gems now do I think they will most definitely I think they will what they should do is redo this with all the standard sets as well for 2500 gems and I think that's pretty fair in my honest opinion so we'll see what happens uh this is probably going to be a feeling out period for this kind of event to see if people like it um feel free to stay tuned um this weekend uh if I play this event I probably won't play it live since I don't want to say people's going to get on there and see if they can get uh buddied up against me uh and cheat off my screen but you never know so I think what I'll do is I'll go ahead I'll run this event live if it's available on Sunday um and when I do just know that if I get paired up with somebody uh who's obviously on my stream I'm probably going to pause the stream uh and just record it so we'll see how it goes um moving forward but when it's all said and done I'll probably just play it early record it and then just put it on the channel later um also with that said we don't know how long this is going to run yet um I'm sure it's been announced uh but I want to see once it gets placed what this timer goes to to see how long it will take it would be nice if this was a month-long event I think that'd be cool uh but I have this weird feeling it's probably going to to be for a week so we might have to get it where we can so if this is what you're into and you like sealed and you get you want some free cards on Arena and you've got some gems laying around definitely would be getting into this so uh I think this is good um foreshadowing of lots to come so remember to get them dailies done save up switch all your gold to gems as soon as possible uh by using the daily shop and all that good jazz so that you can uh get in here for some real magic cards um if you're good enough so with that said next let's talk about the abandon restricted list so the announcements for ban and restricted as everybody knows is not zilch zero not happening they feel that everything is a okay with that said we all know for the Mars part it is not AOK uh but I think that standard is in a place right now where nobody plays it to the point that they honestly don't care because I don't think they can fix it because it's really a giant show um now with that being said standard is fun but it is a really overpowered uh kind of gamebreaking format that's not very balanced or friendly to new players we'll say you know used to the older formats modern you know Legacy all that good jazz even Pioneer at this point are the more complicated formats with Combos and this and that and the other um so it's really interesting to see them take this stance especially with all the new CS it got released uh for example Ruby Medallion reprinted into modern along with Ral which makes uh one hell of a combo uh I believe modern has a two turn two- turn kill now from that um shown by aspiring Spike um go check him out I mean if you want to be up to date on some of the hottest uh and coolest and some of the best decks in Magic aspiring spike is probably your man to get first peek at it um so yeah uh there along with other things as well I mean everything from atraxa to the red red white convoke deck which I think is actually okay to some degree um lots of shenanigans Shenanigans abound um so yeah uh it's interesting that they say no but we'll just have to wait and see I think it's another two months or so or three maybe in August we get the next announcement after bloom bloomo has been in for a bit so and to be fair if they're not Banning anything now they're not going to ban anything till after after bloomo bloom bro comes out around the August first week second week so we probably won't see a Banning announcement till September if anything so at best so buckle up buttercup we're going to be in for a ride however uh a few weeks ago they did ban something but before this uh the cranial Ram in popper got banned because who would have thought it's broken as hell uh this red black uh red and black living living weapon equipment says the equipped creature gets plus X Plus and plus one uh where X is the number of artifacts you contr control obviously this is an artifact so for a red and a black you get a mere one one creature uh that equips for two however uh uh this car does very close what cranial plating does and if you don't know what that is holy um cranial plating has dominated multiple formats as it says here in history and it has it's been banned several times uh is banned in popper uh why they made this card to put into popper when it's just like cranial plating boggles the imagination because cranial plating is basically this card but with color which doesn't matter irrelevant um much more recently they talked about how they ban All That Glitters which is this card again but one color um All That Glitters Is close to cranial plating yada yada yada um these cards are strong but on top of that they print their play patterns aren't very enjoyable gee who would have thought that you could just lay this in your Affinity deck of artifacts and then your hand of artifacts and you have a seven one let's say that you're going to swing with and oh they block it darn now I have nothing to equip it to oh wait what about all these other artifacts I got let me equip it so now that they're bigger than everything else that blocks it plus it's still a 62 63 it's it was absurd um if you played this in popper you know how bad it was you played against it you also know how bad it was and you both should understand why this had to be done so again I'm surprised it lasted this long um I'm surprised it didn't I'm surprised that made it out of honestly pre-released before it got banned uh I guess apparently they were like well maybe nobody will notice how good this card is a wrong uh took less than a week after release so good job Wizards the way to way to stay in there and test uh test the cards on how powerful they are morons anyway till next time stay kind and I hope to see you
