[Music] before we get into today's Cowboys report a programming announcement for you guys we're going to try something our Raiders channel did last off seon and is doing again right now uh during our live shows for the next couple weeks two months whatever before the preseason begins we're going to simulate the Cowboy season Madden style it'll be just like a watch part party we'll have giveaways Super Chat menus chances for me to do stupid human tricks Andor maybe have a few too much to drink that'll be done starting live on Monday so make sure you guys tune in we'll go game by game for the Cowboy season simit and react Madden style first some rumors for you guys Mike fiser reports the Cowboys could have interest in adding defensive tackle lynval Joseph to the Cowboys roster which I do think makes some sense now I'll make note Mike did call this in the rumor category so is worth mentioning there Joseph has bounced around in recent years has been a part-time half seon player uh with both Buffalo and Philadelphia over the last two seasons not a ton of splashy impact plays he does turn 36 by the way in October you're also not signing him to be a five sack guy or even a f tfl guy at this point it's it's almost like at this point this Cowboys defensive line room they need Innings eaters on the pitching staff they need guys that can go out there give you six Innings allow three runs they need those guys up front and Joseph most notably has ties to Mike Zimmer spent a very long time together when he played for Minnesota from 2014 to 2019 uh has only played for five teams in his NFL career there's not that much left in the tank but there's not much on this roster when it comes to the defensive tackle room uh if you want to group into three techs and one techniques right Osa odiga Sean C goson are three techniques Denzel daxon lost a lot of weight from what he was listed at he still I think might end up being more of of a nose guard uh you know he was listed at at 62 335 but was barely above 300 comec but I I think he tried to cut weight to run faster but he's not much he's a udfa with little limited production over the course of his col career right Justin Rogers seventh round pick fits the one stop being roll mold just like Mazy Smith does and lynval Joseph is a nose guard by the way but remember Mike simmer whether he uh will ever will not publicly acknowledge it because it's mean he is a believer in fatties only that is what he likes in his defensive tackles he wants big bodies on the interior take on the blocks and free up the linebackers to make plays behind them Joseph does that that is what he does well and it gives this team an actual veteran option behind Mazy Smith in case Smith needs a breather needs time he's not going to be 100% snap guy anyway I think this does make sense so would you sign lynval Joseph s for sign P for pass it is the PIN com like you can see there on screen so head down there let me know s for sign P for pass let's talk Trey Lance as Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian shenhe are giving some pretty good insight into the Cowboys planned for Lance this off season saying he needs reps he's going to get them shimer said this quote we know Dak we know Cooper Rush he meaning Lance is the question mark there's so much he doesn't know that he's got to figure out and so that's what's exciting about that if he can be he can really be a good player because he's wired the right way and the way he works we just got to give them the opportunity to show us that with the year under his belt and being comfortable it's going to be all about getting him a ton of reper out ota's mini camp then training camp you're going to see him getting a ton right leading into the pre-season all of that makes sense to me uh he is the one that needs those reps you know you probably don't need to give Cooper Rush a ton of reps you don't need to give CD l or Dak Prescott a ton he's going to get them he's still the starter don't get me wrong but when it's like okay backups said Lance that's how it should be right because Lance just hasn't played much football they back to his time in high school School his time in college his time in the NFL he's the same age guys like B Nicks Michael penck he's played way less football and not that much more NFL football than those guys mind you it's still an unknown what Trey Lance is the arm strength the athletic ability is there can he put it together not everyone does is Trey Lance the quarterback of the future in Dallas given that all the quarterbacks Lance rush and Dak are out of contract after this upcoming season the future y or n in the comments section look Lance is still an unknown he he we don't know what he is we know what he could be both positively and negatively this is a massive pre-season for him because in reality the minimum for Trey Lance is that he plays well I know it'll be other backups with him but if you're not impressing against the backups how are you going to impress against the starters right this is is a critical preseason for and frankly one of the more intriguing pre-seasons I can remember for the Cowboys since like the first one with Dak because you have that unknown quarterback you didn't really have it with Ben denucci right because of the weird covid stuff there so I am excited about this preseason schedule where this morning we'll have another video this afternoon for you guys uh cutting chony gston which you're you probably will know what how I feel about this one based on what we just said about lynval Joseph bleach report was name in one player on each team that is the best player that could be cut and they picked the defensive line out of Iowa chony gston for the Cowboys here's the argument the pitch right the turnover on the defensive line in theory is a good thing for chony Golston Dallas moved on from Jonathan henkins and Neville gallamore vacating plenty of snaps up front but the Cowboys undoubtedly will look uh or give rookies Justin Rogers and Denzel daxon a look okay so what would you do with chony goldon would you cut him or not k for you're going to keep him on the roster C for you will cut him sound off for me in the comment section of today's show I think cutting Chanty gston who by the way was third in snaps among your defensive linemen last year second among returning defensive lineman I think that would be a mistake now I reserve the right to change my mind if Dallas adds other players but right now you don't have the defensive tackle depth up front you don't have the bodies to survive cutting your second or third best defensive tackle in fact I still think you need to add more players between Jonathan henkins and Neville gallamore you're replacing an obscenely high amount of snaps on your roster you were replacing almost 700 snaps to put that in perspective that's what Maris Bell played last year you're talking about basically a start you're replacing a starter's worth of snaps because it was more than Osa odiga played and I get that goson has not been that productive and he he is a bit of of an awkward tweener that's all fine but I got to replace snaps for Neville gallamore 304 henkins 387 is Mazy Smith going to get a bunch of those absolutely he should get more reps where are the rest of those snaps going to come if I'm also replacing 322 from goldon I I like Justin roders as a nose guard he can you know henkins can you know take let's say Mazy gets 400 something or other Rogers can take 200 something okay I still got to replace 304 from Neville from Neville galmore who's doing that on on this team Denzel daxon the udfa who by the way has hasn't had a sack in two years who had 27 tackles last year and a half tackle for loss at Illinois I don't I don't have I need more defensive tackles not cutting one of my best ones the best argument that was not mentioned by report is that goon's a tweener and maybe this team thinks V vam foko and gston are the same player they play the same role that's something I'm going to here they don't think he's a DT they think he's a defensive end okay the number game changes there but then I still got tol all my def all my defens def tackle snaps so I I don't like that idea unless I get frankly two more defensive tackles on this roster because I don't have the pieces up front to survive
