NYJF 2024 - Episode 5: Jets set final roster, prepare for week 1 vs. SF!

[Music] good evening welcome back nyj fpod fireman Ed Rob Carpenter Jak copel all back in the house we made it through the preseason roster appears set after a few moves today no major injuries this summer gentlemen how are we feeling less than two weeks away let's go let's go guys I've been I've been I've been like it's I'm back I mean I'm fully fully locked in and I don't even like you know me I don't get so into like the one Jets Drive stuff and everything but watching you know Aaron roders just carve up the Giants on One jets Drive was it gave me chills almost I didn't I didn't see that yet I got oh Ed you gotta watch it you gotta watch it I you know it's it's just I mean the guy is just electric and such know that but but just knowing that that guy is going to be our quarterback this year and after like waiting a full year with his recovery and everything to like get back to this point man I'm gonna lose my mind in San Francisco week one Kev how you feeling right there with you bro I'm not G have a voice for Tennessee the following week tell you right now this that I said this a while back I'm saying it again and I mean it this team is angry they're an angry team and the fan base is angry because we feel like we were jipped last year we feel like we and we got a better team this year I mean he he assembled even a better team and I think they have a chip on their shoulder I know I have a chip on my shoulder I I think that most of the Jeff fans have a chip on their shoulder you know and um you know I listen I said this before and I'm going to tell you again why not a us running the table for five six seven weeks like why not get out to a start and just roll like these teams that go on these Championship runs and win World Championships a lot of the teams they start out they just they go balls to the wall let's go and that's how I feel like this team let's go let's go they this ain't a young team you got young guys but you got a lot of sprinkled veterans that are ready to win they want to win I mean you got you got your left tackle over there he wants to win he wants to win that boy is ready to go Morgan Moses Simpson these guys are ready to go let's go I mean the offensive line just Morgan Moses and Simpson like you mentioned and and Smith and like I mean you know Elijah ver Tucker back like we this offensive line this year is serious and and that's I got so much confidence in this line not to mention that the the young guys who've come in on the offensive line and the defensive line like we got some players huh we we like the depth is I was looking at our depth chart today are you know like after the cuts and everything it's kind of crazy like we're talented top to bottom like we have we have studs on in in every room in that building it's crazy they've got eight undrafted free agents that Douglas has found over the last like three years that are on the roster right now it's crazy world W on a line of scrimmage brother and the funny thing about this it um I don't think the I don't think the guys are like so angry about the whole thing but I know that they confident as hell because they know it just took you know one play away from them last year to basically end the season but they didn't stop playing so the defense bowled out for the entire season they won seven games without that without number eight at the helm now you put him back there you put him back there last year you know this was a playoff team possibly could have made it you know AFC Championship run you put him back there this year with the additions like you guys were just talking about on the offensive line Simpson Moses Smith those guys added to what was already there and everybody always already said it which was probably the worst position uh uh on the team itself was the o line and the the roundabout that was there you know for the last couple of years everybody just coming in and out because of injuries and just bad play those guys guys are are so ready to go you got Smith who was with the Cowboys for so long and they never really made a run even though they were they were good margan Moses and Simpson coming over from the Ravens and you know those guys were good and they're used to they're used to you know being in the playoffs and and having being in a in a in a division where the competition is every week like you got to play every single week because it's just so strong in that division same thing right here in the in the AFC East so those guys are used to it Elijah ver Tucker is GNA come back and you know he's ready to ball because him going out the last couple years with the with the Achilles that he's had um and he's ready to go I mean you just you just add the the additions to to this team love having him back in his natural position too exact exactly he's not he's not moving around he he just plug him in a Right Guard and he's there for for the D they got the chip on their shoulder man I'm telling you chip is there big time chip on his shoulder R listening to all those [ __ ] on the TV when you listen to these guys on the TV they're murdering him murdering him you know that uh he's he's old he's got guy guy is so prideful you guys as going on that level rob you know firsthand you guys on that level you there's nothing but pride and like somebody talking [ __ ] is the best remedy for anybody Aaron we know Aaron is that guy that keeps receipts especially when it comes to football um and it's funny Jay the way you were talking um and you know watching One jet drive uh you know just last night about the way it was with the Giants practice it's different when you were there like I was there so I saw it firsthand and you know chitchatting with Aaron you know here and there he he definitely has the chip on his shoulder he's not gonna go out and play play mad or anything like that but he's definitely going out this season to prove everybody wrong and he's trying he's definitely trying to bring that that chip back to to Floren Park so um you know it's just it's going to be fun especially in the beginning probably the toughest game on the schedules is is opening game Monday night no doubt no doubt so you know I know the defense is geared up for it because they know that they they they got a lot on their hands trying to keep contain that that that offense of Shanahan and the offense is gonna go out and say you know what this was the piece that we were missing here number eight we added these other guys to to protect him and now you guys trying to stop us it's not us always trying to stop everybody else it's like you guys try to stop us now and and see what happens and everybody put those those stats up uh I think the last couple of days that you know the couple of shows that I watched where um Aaron Aaron Rogers Record especially dwood put it up I think he was uh 81 and 10 since 2016 I think when uh uh or something like that when um defense holds a team to 20 points less that was his record you know this defense can do that if you got offense that's moving the ball because they're not going to be on the field that much so 35 and two over the last like four or five years or something yeah last four or five years 35 and two with and and two of those years I think it were his MVP years so um yeah you know he's going out and he's just gonna be like yeah I kept all the receiv guys you guys saying I was old I'm 40 I'm washed up I'm not gonna be able to play the same um as my MVP years which was one of them was just just a couple years ago so you know Rogers bringing a Super Bowl here would that be bigger than Messi bringing the Stanley Cup to the Rangers one one million 100% th% absolutely you can't you can't compare hockey to football there's no comparing I mean just as far as Legend status in New York the r Rangers status they have 19,000 fans that's what they have that's all the guard we can fit we got 880,000 fans I mean you k no it football is football's King man football is King football is King and specifically the fact that the Giants have won numerous titles yes andaron Rogers coming to New York and bringing a title to the Jets yes he he could retire right then and there and then he had the keys to keep telling me Rob keep I love it I love it I love it I want some more of it I want some more of it that's that's I mean that's just the way it would be I mean you know how crazy the city would be for the fre oh my God I'm gonna lead that parade I'll be Rock I'll be leading that parade need I don't need to be on AO I don't need to be on no float I'm GNA be right in the middle of the street rocking the house block by Block they'll know we're coming they'll know we're coming cuz here we come it's gonna climb That Wall Street Bull and like get on top of it and Le let go I'm going block to I'm going up Broadway I know the blocks like the back of my hand okay and I know each block and there'll be millions of people on the blocks and we're just going to rock the house and then the team will come behind me that's the way it'll be let it happen let it be said let's go I think it's time man I think it's time is it ever is it ever my 65th birthday let's go great way to celebr there you go so clearly not looking for any passes this year but if you guys heard obviously John Lynch earlier today very frustrated with IO talking to the media Trent Williams he doesn't appear close to be returning you got mcaffrey that's a little banged up I think Leonard Floyd he got banged up in that last game as well so like is this finally the year that the football Gods just give the Jets a couple breaks I don't want to say yes and then jinx it you know I'm let's just hope we got feels like something every every fan every one of our fans are the same way why wouldn't you be after watching Rogers go down at four plays you'd have to be an idiot to not have that in your head that you know we don't get a effing break okay we' seen it with test ofie in 99 okay so yeah but once again in life everything what goes around comes around man and you know our time is due our time is due it's not [ __ ] it's not talking [ __ ] it's just a fact that the odds are that you're gonna have success and you're going to have he and this is what we got to pray for and hope for but if you don't have it your head come on man that's all [ __ ] but so does every team so does every team every team you think the Buffalo Bills don't worry about Josh Al you think the Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes they don't worry about him yes everybody worries about yes one million per wa it this the good thing the good thing about it this year is Tyrod Taylor is behind Aaron Rogers so if something happens pulls a hamstring twists an ankle whatever it might be and he needs a to he needs a break for a week or two tyell can run the offense and and just fine I've seen him I've seen him in practice uh you know it's it's it's a different story when he was running the twos um compared to him running the ones um and it's it's just fluid like when he's with the ones he's he's he's the star and everything runs just as as smooth it is with with Aaron now don't get me wrong Aaron has some things that that tyr can't do but also at the same time Tyrod can move man he can get the hell out of the way he can take off and run if he needs to um and and keep drives alive so you know that's the biggest difference than any other year we've had and like like you said Ed I mean it's going back to test verie going down then um Chad going down um had a shitload of things happen to us you know about run the Rock Run The Rock absolutely Run The Rock they're G to run the rock way more than we realize I believe I believe that that three-headed monster that they got there they're gonna use those boys those boys are gonna be used there gonna be a lot of running going on this [ __ ] especially seeing Moses and Simpson They want Rogers to have play action yeah that's the power game that's the power running game that they're gonna have um and I think Bree likes it um damn sure no BR ad likes it because that dude just trying to just trying to get downhill um as quick as possible and and use his speed and power Isaiah Davis likes it um the one thing about him though I think he's goingon to be used a little more in in the passing game um because you know you get him out in open space on screens and and stuff like that and you know he can do some damage um don't get me wrong he's he's good running between the tackles as well but you're right a I mean you know they're going to use that running game they're going to use that running game to open up downfield um so and I'm sure Aaron likes it you know he's he likes play action he knows how to handle the ball and play action so you know it's going to be fun to watch because there's probably going to be a lot of big plays downfield this year I'm go ahead goe I'm Sor you guys notice last week when when Kev asked uh Bala Powell about uh about brillan Allen and that before he started talking he got that smile on his face that was that was a great moment that was like for like a full second he just smiled and was thinking about like what do I want to say about this kid like that kid's a beast I can't seeing him stand next to Bree and Isaiah Davis it's almost I man because dude look like big ass lineer those are big dudes also you know could they the league and rushing this year they could lead the league and rushing that that's how confident I am with that off that offense could we could lead the we could overtake the Baltimore Ravens and running the ball I'm telling it could be it'll be just like Aaron being with with Green Bay when you had Jones and and uh what's the big kid um that they just put on IR so yeah they'll have a Dy Dylan yes yeah yes Dylan um um it'll be just like that for him because he knows for the most part he's gonna be ahead of the chains and that's what the running game is goingon to do so when you stay ahead of the chains that play action downfield man you're gonna see Garr getting open you're gonna see the tight ends getting open this is going to be a lot of big plays for this team that weren't there you know in the past couple years hey Rob you know when because I think we were all shocked Jay Kev we were all shocked that we took running backs and you know what got I got to thinking Aaron had to have a lot to do with what went on there because I think his philosophy was he looked back on his teams that were dominant and what you just said Rob with the way they run the ball and I think you know between Hackett and Rogers I think they were like you know what we need we need a at least a two-headed monster you know and three is even better because they don't want to lose anything in that run game because it just helps Rogers on that on what he does best and what does he do best play action he's just tremendous at it and you know he could throw the ball down the field he could he could hit all the different routs he can hit everything so you know I mean I also being out there for 30 minutes a game now you're going to have a fresh defense in the fourth quarter hopefully with the lead being able to pin their ears back and just go so I don't want to get too far ahead but you guys um there there was two parts of that Ed with them drafting the running backs now they want the running game and they want Bree to have a break you know they don't want him carrying the ball you know 35 40 times a game stuff like that and you know getting worn down there's another part to that that's the business side of that that Bree is up for his for his extension um he comes up before the other guys he comes up before SAU he comes up before G um being a second round pick so his his years are done so I think they were looking towards that as well along with adding on to him you know what I'm saying like they needed somebody to to to be a partner with him they got two guys that are that are going to be partnering with them um but they I think they was looking down the line a little bit saying all right you know if something goes on with with Bree on the business side they do have two guys that can that can fill in you know for him till till his his deal is done we'll say well we hope worri about it this year not worried about it this year yeah we this year this year's a watch those those those those three-headed that three-headed monster is gonna be gonna be big for this team this year um and hopefully this is the year that everything gets done because I mean it's it's all in for for this year at at this point think about the o line and everything else yeah y this year's running back room remind you guys a little bit of the 2002 last time we won the division like Curtis Martin Richie Anderson like you know you had a couple monsters in there and you know I guess Bree could be the Cur the Curtis Martin of the group and you know maybe one of the guys will fill in as like a you know a little fullback play action I just think I just literally think it's just like Aaron W to be back in Green Bay with the guys he knows wherever whatever part of the field he's on you got a home run hitter um that's Bree that was that was Jones with him um in Green Bay and then you got a downhill guy um like Brin Allen whenever you need to tough yards uh you know could be late in the game could be you know third and one whatever you just hand the ball up to a big guy let him get that one yard and he could also break it so you know he can take it the distance because he's got that speed as well even though he's a big guy um so you know I think he just wanted that that element of saying we need to run the ball um and that opens up everything else that has to do with this offense and again like you surprised that they don't have like a traditional fullback on the roster like I know they got cut I was a little surprised by that I'm a little surprised about that about that as well because um I think a lead back in there on on you know some of the especially some of the play action stuff um you you might see that kid the big boy be the fullback they CL you might see the big boy Bray Allen be the fullback oh that's too you might see him be the fullback why can't he be the fullback I think there's um I think they they they put ferer on the practice squad they just uh baits uh I think that's his name from from Chicago um so I think they added you know they only had two initially on the 53 but um you have y coming back after week four yoa uh the kid ferer and Allen out as a fullback don't count that out I think Rucker might get the first shot at that honest well him too that I that's a good point that's that's the thing of the versatility of the of the offense that wasn't here previously so these guys moving around Jay what you said about the offensive line from 2002 if this offensive line could be that offensive line we're gonna win a world championship yeah we're gonna win a world championship because we're better than that team we're better on paper we're better than that team if that team if that offensive line could block and we could run the ball like we did then MH dude this scy listen we're going to be a factor if you start seeing us running the ball and we're getting 200 yards in a game dude the NFL is going to be on on freaking warnings all over here we go I mean Rog has a has them running the ball 200 yards they'll put 500 they'll be putting up 500 total yards a game this team is in 21 points a game the one thing I loved from everybody watching that last preseason game and I know it's preseason and I know it wasn't oneson ones everything like that but we all saw what the D line was doing to that giant Z line we also just think about the fact that that D line goes up against our o line in practice every day or was going to go against them in practice every day and they always too and you know the old saying ion sharpens iron you know you're going into the season where both of those sides of the ball will be dominant um throughout the season as long as these guys stay healthy but you know I was just loving what I was seeing from from the dline from from throughout training camp and then you know the couple of preseason games man because the dine is just those guys look so freaking hungry especially the young guys the undrafted free agent McGregor Taylor Watts I mean they know they're not going to be one but when they get their chance you know it's it's going to be ball to the wall it's gonna be fun to watch those guys hey he's he's proven Sal is proven that he goes with eight to 10 guys a game yeah I mean he just does he goes with at least eight he goes a rotation at least eight and so you know those guys are gonna get some play this guys gonna get definitely that's that's the thing that's what we just talking about you know just imagine just imagine the offense putting up 21 points a game yeah and the defense out there saying all right we can just go hunting now we can just go get the quarterback because they have to try to score there's not too many offensive lines that can handle the jet defensive line you know front four um you know on a on a onetoone basis at all in the in the league so you know it's go 49ers week one without Trent Williams yeah that's that's gonna be tough I'm anxious to see how that K law is gonna do man I'm I'm I'm rooting for that kid seeing him cry on that Podium man I'll tell you what I'm rooting like hell for that kid KW if kin law has a if kin law lives up to what Salah believes oh my God between him and quinnon damn it seems like they do pretty good with a lot of those Reclamation projects T McKinley I mean Quincy he got released early on by the Jaguars seems like they do pretty good with those kind of pickups and then they got the young young blood coming in to relieve him a little bit the young you got Young Blood you got the young blood coming in I mean real young blood you got I mean that gu is Young Blood at this point the one the one sneaky pickup they just did though was the kid from Minnesota who yeah I literally thought in Georgia's National Championship uh run I thought he was the best player on their defense wow and when Minnesota drafted him in the first round I was like wow like he but he's he he reminds me of Quincy he's a dude that is just flying around gets to the ball makes plays was around the football all the time if you watched that Georgia National Championship team he was always around the ball he was always making play and the kid was fast as hell so he reminds me so much of Quincy Williams man let's just like see ball and go get it like as one of the fastest players on on the team everybody you know says Quincy is that when he first stepped on the field for the Jets I was like yo this dude is a beast like what was the Jaguar was thinking about letting this guy go and here we are now he's all pro but you know I thought that kid was actually the best player on the Georgia National Championship team and if he can if he can revert back to it I know he was hurt I think he broke his leg broke his leg Yeah and was out for for quite a while um but if he can revert back to to that player holy crap man just adding that to to this team gota get him holy [ __ ] yo just real quick before we move on to to another football topic I just see a lot of chat a lot of chatter in the chat about the fireman Ed beer asking if it's coming back this year and what the deal is so I want to that question only got a couple minutes left absolutely positively one trillion per are coming back with the fireman Ed beer this year I'll let Ed talk about in one second but Ed and I actually have a call tomorrow for something really exciting that we're uh setting up so uh stay they they're the best and um you know what uh it's a great it's a great beer and I'm honored and uh let's say listen I I hope every go everybody goes out and buys it because it's going to a good cause guys we are G to be on abbreviated show tonight because uh a couple reasons but we got some things going on tomorrow I got some things going on tonight so the good news is we will be back breaking down the entire you know couple days before the the opening game next week on Wednesday I mean we'll be four or five days out so I'm excited to to talk nothing but Jets ners get a little breakdown going hopefully at that point we'll have some clarity about auk and Trent Williams and Hassan reck and the whole nine Eddie you are yet about Hassan reic you said if if we got past the Giants game and he wasn't signed you'd start to get worried yeah I don't I don't think you'll see him play uh first game my opinion I don't think you'll see him uh suit up I don't I don't think it'll happen so and I think they prepared themselves with all these kids that they you know you see that defensive line oh lot of young blood there young blood Young Blood bringing him in waves bringing them in waves Young Blood let's go love some young blood you and I will be there in San Francisco so I'm so fired up to get out there that can you imagine what's going to happen when Aaron Rogers comes running out of that tunnel about 810 or something like that we're going to be I I can't I just everything I dreamed it would be last year I hope we get not wait hopefully we get the W and then oh by the way while we're out there I'm stopping by by my buddy with Gary ve stopping by my buddy uh Doug from Mojo breaks we're g to be ripping uh some some football cards some be friends cards right before we go into things going on for the week so so I'm not sure yet get mojo break get him yeah yeah he's betting all these people out there are betting Gary that their shitty teams are gonna be better than the Jets this year we got that we got the dude that that that bet Gary I think like 10 grand that that the Raiders were gonna have a better record season good they like to lose their money because Gary for listen collect that money Gary because you're gonna buy the New York football Jets down lot that would be awesome make all that money brother make all that money let's go that'd be fantastic so all mean this is going be the one time I probably do this this year because how high expectations are but my toast is going out Aaron Rogers for just you know putting in that work putting in the effort to get back onto the field I get chill's watching you throw the ball around how [ __ ] perfect those laser beams are and like you know just as long as it's been since we've had a quarterback I feel like a week before the opener I just want to give my my shout out to Aaron Rogers please I just pray to the football gods to the injury gods and everything you stay upright healthy and lead us to where we need to get led to because it's been long enough man we're getting old I want to see it happen you're the man to do it to 20 straight games baby Aaron roders 20 straight let's go let go all right well Rob kind of stole mine so I had a plan B ready Aaron white cotton defensive line coach last four seasons done a phenomenal job with Huff Quinn Williams Jermaine Johnson now this year three undrafted
