Three New West Nile deaths have been reported in the Midwest, one in Illinois and two more in Wisconsin. They are the first deaths from the virus in those states this year, the CDC says it's received reports of 18 deaths from West Nile across the country. So far. This year, 182 people died from the virus. In 2023 the virus is spread through the bite of infected mosquitoes. There is no vaccine, no specific treatment. Most West Nile cases are mild with symptoms comparable to the flu. Experts say reducing exposure to mosquitoes is the best way to avoid infection. Use an insect repellent when going outdoors and wear long pants and long sleeves.
