Intro what's up guys my name is Adam and I deliver packages for Amazon I've been delivering in the South Boston area about two and a half years come along with me and I'll show you a little day in the life of an Amazon delivery driver [Music] Morning Routine every morning I'm waking up around 6 20 6 30 in the morning pack everything up for the day make a lunch something quick like a sandwich that can be uh eaten easily while you're on the road I'll see you later love you see you later have a good day no you have a good day I love you we love you too getting ready for the day uh thinking about what the plan will be how I want to attack the day once I get into the van how many stops might have how many packages might have our normal numbers right now seem to be stops 170 to 190 stops a day packages 250 to 300 packages a day something like that not too too bad but once you're out there you get to just kind of do your thing throw in a podcast throw on some Sports Talk whatever whatever I'm feeling on that certain day but I think my favorite thing about this is just the independence while you're out there At the Station we're here at the station now getting ready to head on in get to see uh what our route's looking like for today how many stops how many packages uh gonna find our van get everything ready for the day luckily it's a really nice day out today so it's ideal delivery weather today which is nice what's up you ready to go yes sir how's it going Medway sounds good to me 188 stops 88 188 you'll cross that yeah let's do it sounds good Joe's the owner of gruntastic logistics he's the man best uh best boss I've ever had he runs the entire operation keeps everybody on track keeps everything moving forward everybody's grabbing their bags getting ready to go out for the day your bag has phone Keys portable charger gas card for vans that aren't electric to gas up at the end of the day so let's uh see if we can squeeze in here and grab our bag we're all set let's go see if we can find our van here we are [Music] PreStaging all right here we go [Music] once we grab our vans we drive over to our pre-staging area which is our lineup outside we're waiting to be let into the warehouse so we can do Loadout Loadout is we grab all of our bags all of our oversized packages they're on these big rolling carts we roll them to our van then we load everything in it works really nicely because on the flex app it actually tells you the order of everything that's going to be delivered so we're going to staging area G18 and this says we have two carts I think we might have one more but we'll go double check with an Amazon employee when we get out there the way it works now is Loading instead of scanning each bag we can just scan the cart and that'll let us know that that's our cart the correct cart here's the second one looks like we might just have two we might have lucked out today so now let's uh roll them over to our van and just start getting loaded [Music] so one of one of the cool features one of the cool new features about the rivian Vans is two sets of shelves on either side so in the step bands and those box trucks you do have two sets of shelves but those are bigger vehicles um this vehicle is only slightly bigger than the regular Prime vans so you can fit a lot more packages a lot more bags in these Vans as opposed to those Prime vans and that's everything loaded and you swipe to finish on the phone and then it'll get your route all loaded up not only on the phone but also on the tablet in the front of the rivian which is the thing that's super cool and we're off [Music] First Stop so we've gotten to our first stop this is going to be our first bag of the day so this is what I do I just put everything on the Shelf with the address facing me so that I can see it easily tips and tricks are shared across all drivers I have the way that I do things so I'll give those tips to somebody else and they'll tell me what they do and I'll try their method one day or something like that those tips they're always shared between all of our drivers it's very much a community thing that we have so this is how I kind of lay it out so these are going to all be our first stops so I don't even have to look at any other bags so I'm going to grab the phone one of the coolest things about the rivians is once you connect the phone to the van you really only need to use this now to scan the packages and to take a picture at the front door or wherever the preferred delivery area is because once it's connected to the phone you have your GPS on the screen that's right behind the wheel and you have your entire map on the screen that's right in the center console so it makes it pretty easy after you're done scanning packages and taking a picture there's a little spot you can just leave the phone right there you don't need it for navigation you don't need it for anything so it makes it a little bit easier and simpler while you're out on the road so we're looking forward to 103. 103 we got our four packages take a look at the delivery notes please leave the package on my front steps and we can head out and drop them off for him Delivery [Music] oh [Music] hi there hi how are you there you go good timing have a good day thank you Breaks there's an hour of breaks built into each route so you have a half hour for lunch time you can stop you can quickly pick something up take some time to eat and then you also have two 15-minute breaks we need to find a bathroom or if you need to stop just have a quick snack those are built into the route so you have that hour to make sure you're staying hydrated make sure you have some food that'll help you get through the rest of the day just took a quick little stop at the bathroom we're ready to keep going and get through the rest of this day Deliveries [Music] I think the sheer amount of people that use Amazon every day is pretty crazy you find that especially if you're delivering in the same areas every single day you'll end up delivering a lot of times to the same houses two sometimes three times a week so uh hey there um it's nice you get to know their preferences sometimes you get to know the actual customer if they spend a lot of time outside it's nice [Music] the ease of delivery is definitely better in these vans there's more room when you're stepping in and out of the van there's extra space in the back as opposed to a prime van we got the multiple shelves we got the automatic door there's heated seats heated steering wheel the screen with the map is a very big plus everything about it is a little bit easier something else that these vehicles have is the in-vehicle camera safety technology it's looking to make sure that you're driving safely so it's looking for complete stops at stop signs it's looking for speeding you're not going too fast on certain roads it's also looking for distracted driving now the camera won't hit you for distracted driving let's say if I just picked up a bottle of water and took a sip as long as you still have your eyes on the road there's no audio in the camera either another really cool thing about these Vans is the battery life is crazy good what's up [Music] so uh very close to the end of the day two stops to go my daddy was a family basement my mama was an engineer and I was born one dark pretty mourn with the music coming in my ears in my ears [Music] [Music] there it is and we're moving on [Music] we got what we got the oversized front door beware of a dog here we go That's All She Wrote see you later so our day is over it's about 4 45 not too bad another nice little perk of these electric vans we don't have to stop for gas on the way back which is nice Cuts an extra few minutes out of our day so we're just gonna head straight back to the delivery station check in with the RTS desk we're gonna do our post trip inspection make sure everything is as it should be uh no any no issues with the van as it was at the beginning of the day we're gonna plug the electric band back in so it can charge overnight and we're gonna go check in with our dispatchers give them back the bag get everything all set make sure there's nothing else they need from us for the day then we'll be good to head out of here today all right that about wraps up the day had a great day
