John you have an impressive political background and host the wildly successful political podcast pods save America so why did you decide to go on the upcoming season of Survivor I love Survivor because a lot of people who maybe hate politics get to watch a show that's a about a bunch of people kind of making a democracy right that's what it is right like the show tries to make everybody hate each other and fight against each other but then they manag to become friends and find a way to work together win challenges and then vote at the end always about a vote and I just thought at a time when so many people hate politics but care about democracy in an election year maybe that'd be a way to reach a lot of people who maybe don't realize it but even as they're frustrated by what they see on television every day in the news are checking out a show that ultimately is about some of the values we're trying to uphold in an election and if you can and so I wanted to be part of that social experiment in democracy um and uh you know you'll see what happened you'll see what happened to me I think that's such a good answer and it also feels like what you told your agent when they're like why would you go on Survivor that's so offbrand for you and you're like no listen Survivor is about democracy it is about democra it's on topic the one person who was never convinced I should do it was my mother really and up until like right as I was about to get on the plane she's like and you're not going to go do that I's like no Mom I'm not going to law school I'm going on Survivor
