Google Pixel 9 vs Pixel 8: Which one to get?

Intro [Music] [Music] hey what's up guys will here for GSM Arina so you want a compact Flagship and you're thinking about a vanilla Google pixel but should you go for this year's model or the previous one the new pixel 9 brings quite a few improvements over the older model however the pixel 8 is still a solid phone and it comes at a much cheaper price let's put the pixel 9 and pixel 8 head-to-head and find out which one is the better [Music] deal right off the bat you'll notice Design and build that the pixel 9 brings some design changes and the two phones have a distinctly different look while both phones are considered compact the new model is less so the pixel 9 is larger and also heavier besides that it also has an all flat design made from Gorilla Glass victus 2 while the pixel 8's panels are rounded and made from Gorilla Glass victus and while both the pixel 8 and 9 have a horizontal camera bump the new ones is thicker and oval-shaped while the previous models actually connects into Screen specs and features the frame the pixel 9 is larger as it's built around a larger screen a 6.3 in OLED meanwhile the pixel 88 is 6.2 in both displays have the same 1080p resolution and 120 HZ refresh rate though and both screens perform the same except for the brightness that is the difference is pretty substantial the new model can max out at around 2200 nits in auto mode while the pixel 8 can achieve over 1,400 nits that's still plenty for good usability in the Sun but the new model may be better for an extremely sunny Stereo speakers day both pixels have stereo speakers with the same loudness but we found that the pixel 8 has better audio quality with a richer output and nicer sounding vocals Android 14 the pixel 8 and the pixel 99 both bring Google's stock Android software experience and it's even the same Android 14 at the time of this video while both phones are packed with AI features there are a few new ones on the new model however Google promises that these new features will eventually make their way to the pixel 8 as well but only the pixel 9 is getting one year of free access to Google Gemini's most advanced subscription tier which is a bit smarter and more Chipset capable the new pixel also gets a new chipset that tensor G4 made by Google compared to the previous one the G4 has a new CPU and the same but overclocked GPU the pixel 8 has last year's tensor G3 chipset so it Peak Performance is expected to be lower Google claims a significant difference between the two models however benchmarks don't seem to run properly on our pixel 9 review unit as soon as we get meaningful benchmark scores we'll update you with a link in the video description another difference is that the new model has 12 gigs of RAM compared to eight on the previous model regardless in real world use both pixels run quite smoothly the pixel 9 has a higher Battery endurance and charging test battery capacity than the pixel 8 4700 mahs versus 4575 in our testing the pixel 9 proved a worthy upgrade in the endurance Department getting better results in all of the tests and earning an active use score that's nearly 2 hours more when it comes to charging speed both phones are neck and neck though neither is that fast to charge the new model is a little slower to charge to full as it has a larger battery when it comes to cameras the Cameras pixel 9 brings a couple of upgrades a new Ultra wide camera and autofocus for the selfie cam so on the back the pixel 9 has a 50 megap main Cam and a 48 map Ultra wide Cam and there's a 10.5 megap selfie cam on the front all with autofocus the pixel 8 has the same 50 map main cam paired with a 12 megap autofocus Ultra wide cam and the front-facing selfie cam has fixed Daylight photo quality Focus during the day both phones main cameras produce excellent images with high contrast and great detail rendered in a natural way the newer model may be a tad more proficient with the sharpening but the difference is subtle there's a more noticeable difference when it comes to the ultra wide the new camera on the pixel 9 captures more detailed and natural looking photos with less noise low light photos shot on both Low-light photo quality phones are equally solid the main cameras deliver great photos with virtually no difference the ultra wide cameras both offer superb quality too though the pixel 99's are slightly brighter as for Selfies selfies the quality is the same between these two phones but since the pixel 99's front-facing cam has autofocus it can deliver sharper photos in certain situations such as when shooting from a close distance when it comes to video recording though it's actually the older pixel that comes out on top for some Video quality reason the pixel 9 records sof footage than we'd expect for the class from both the main and the ultra wide cameras the pixel 8 offers noticeably more detailed and sharper videos so there you have it guys the Conclusion pixel 9 and the pixel 8 the pixel 9 brings a fresh design a larger and brighter screen and longer battery life the speakers sound better and you get the new Ultra wide Cam and autofocus for selfies the pixel 8 on the other hand is the slightly more compact option and it provides a very similar user experience overall it's the better phone for video recording and it comes at a much lower price right now there's no denying that the pixel 8 is the better deal just based on price alone and not only that it has other things going for it as well if you're after better battery life the pixel 9
